The 8 Best Hookah Lounges In Houston

"Urban Smoke is made for people who refer to themselves as “grown and sexy”. The Upper Kirby restaurant has an exclusive speakeasy feel where every table is full of people smoking hookah while listening to live music. But when the band isn’t playing, expect the DJ to spin smooth ‘90s R&B loud enough to sway in your seat but low enough to hear your thoughts. Come here when you want to experience Jodeci over a Cuban or just need an Old Fashioned with a fried catfish plate. " - gianni greene, chelsea thomas, julie takahashi

The 10 Best Restaurants And Bars For Watching Live Music In Houston

"Urban Smoke is for people who consider themselves “grown and sexy.” The Upper Kirby restaurant feels exclusive—there are only a handful of tables, and each one is dedicated to people eating fried catfish while listening to a live band. But when the band isn't playing, expect the DJ to spin smooth ‘90s R&B loud enough to make you sway in your seat but quiet enough to hear your thoughts. Adriana was amazing! She handled our group of 30 plus with ease! She was positive and timely. Also, the food and drinks were spot on! I will visit here every time I am in Houston!

Urban Smoke - 3 Stars The DJ and vibe at Urban Smoke were definitely the highlights of the night—great music and a cool atmosphere. However, the place felt a bit cramped, which made it less comfortable to relax and enjoy the evening. The waitress seemed a little pushy about the time limit, and it felt like she was annoyed we didn’t order more food or drinks. Despite that, the overall experience was decent. If you’re looking for a lively spot with good music, this place might work, but be prepared for a tighter space and some pressure to spend more.

Chill atmosphere, good music and delicious food! Plus the staff was extra friendly. We ordered the salmon balls, lemon pepper wings and the lamb dip sandwich. The fries with wings were so good...had a nice little spice to them. We enjoyed every single thing!

4 stars for first visit. I'll upgrade to 5 after more visits w/ same experience. Setting & vibe: I love how the cigar room is separated from the non-smoking lounge area. Both sides have DJs, food and bar. Both sides are rather small, but cozy. Fills up fast during late evenings. Our visit was to the cigar room. Free parking is limited but not impossible. Valet is available and fluctuates between $10 or $20. Carpool if you can. Also note, to order food or drink you are required to EITHER open a tab OR pay each time you order. They do have a portable cc terminal to charge your card right at your table which I appreciate. 20% Gratuity is automatically added to every bill. Food: Impressive. The wings hold true to the reviews I've seen. Perfectly fried and seasoned. The french fries weren't cheap shoestring fries. The lambchops were tender and good size. Mash potatoes were made from scratch. Fresh spinach. Plating was attractive although I suggest a smaller dinner plate for the lambchop dinner. Pricing was fair. I would definitely eat here again. Drinks: First, everything but the drink menu has prices. You already know what that mean, lol..and I do not believe in paying top dollar for a drink filled with different syrups and juices but just little liquor. Well, I ordered one drink, The Frenchie ($14.40), and it was very well balanced and tasty so I ordered it 3x. The first time I ordered it as is...the next 2 times I replaced the Whiskey with Cognac (Martell) since cognac was specially priced for the day. Cognac is the better option if you ask me. Daily specials: I find the overall pricing to be fair considering the quality of food and drink and size of venue. With that said, the daily "specials" aren't much of a savings as their marketing suggests, however, we weren't disappointed with what we spent at all. Service: We are not needy patrons. All of the staff were friendly and attentive, even as the night got busy. Food came out hot and in great timing. My only gripe: This new trickery where you're handed the cc machine with only your total showing and asked to choose a tip selection when 20% gratuity has already been added to the bill. You have to request to see your itemized bill. Of course they are hoping you just add an ADDITIONAL tip to the 20% gratuity already added. I have no issues with gratuity being auto-added. However, as an accountant, I do take issue with this unethical method of conning the additional tip out of customers. Yes, I called it a con bc staff is not upfront about the gratuity...and it has become common with many small minority businesses in Houston. Just be upfront. Trust me, customers who appreciate the great service will tip extra anyway. But, if I have to ask you bc you've tried hiding the bill then that 20% is all you get, lol, frfr.

As a long-time patron of Urban Smoke, I've always appreciated the vibrant atmosphere, craft cocktails, and attentive service that made this establishment one of my favorite spots in the city. Unfortunately, my most recent visit has left me reconsidering my loyalty due to the exceptionally poor treatment from a hostess named Carletta, whose aggressive and dismissive behavior created a tense atmosphere throughout our entire evening. While the food and drinks maintained their usual quality, Carletta's inexplicably hostile attitude—rolling her eyes at our party because we were on the waitlist, responding rudely to simple requests, and treating our table with visible annoyance—completely undermined what should have been an enjoyable night out. This disappointing interaction stands in stark contrast to the welcoming environment Urban Smoke has cultivated over the years, and until management addresses this issue with their staff, I'll unfortunately be taking my business elsewhere.

One of my favorite speak-easy spots! Have only experienced top-notch service. Their live music nights are like none other, but you can even go simply on game night and watch televisions.
