"Perhaps the most dismissed taqueria in the city, Urban Taco offers spiffy takes on tacos from across Mexico, all in tortillas made from fresh nixtamalized masa (i.e., the Aztec way). The chicken mole taco employes the mole recipe from co-owner and Mexico City native Markus Pinyero’s mother, and the pastor is sliced from the traditional vertical spit, the trompo. Go deluxe on the al pastor with the a la Tuma, what Texas Monthly named one of the top 10 tacos in the state. It melds the street taco cousin costra’s fried-cheese shell to a corn tortilla with habanero-bathed pastor, pineapple and avocado." - José R. Ralat

This was some of the best food I have had in a long time. My best friend and I decided to give this place a try before our movie started at the Angelika and we are so happy we did. EVERYTHING was delicious. I promise it took less than 5 minutes to get our food. The atmosphere was perfect, the staff was friendly, the frozen margaritas were the best I have ever had, and the food was fresh and flavorful. This place is definitely worth checking out!!

Nice outside patio, close to busy streets but the buildings keep it private and quiet. Loved the Al pastor la tuma (their famous one) - really good! Solid deal to get the taco plate (3 tacos and 2 sides for $17), good amount of food, left me full/content. The fish taco was a little bland, but good, just needed better seasoning but it was a good lighter taco option. The barbacoa was solid too. I loved the sides (got the roasted corn and grilled green onions). The frozen mango margarita was also very good. Def will come again

I looked at the menu and was so happy that this place had options that were seeming vegan friendly! I was so excited to try it. When my friend and I got there we were greeted and sat, then told that our server will be right with us. They weren't. The greeter got our drink order. Still no waiter. The greeter took our app order and brought it to the table. As we start to enjoy our chips and salsa (the roasted peanut habanero salsa is SO GOOD!) 2 servers walk in carrying Starbucks. After they divvy up the orders, our waiter comes to the table and takes our order. I ordered the mushroom al pastor taco, no cheese and the Ensalada Tropical, no crema.. my friend ordered the veggie torta, with mango/jicama slaw & yucca fries... but rice instead of the bread. Our server disappeared outside for about 10 minutes. We finally got him and asked for more chips. Those came. We waited another 10 mins.. the food comes out and the food doesnt do the menu justice. All of the fruit on the salad, had to be canned. Along with the hearts of palm. It was less than exciting. The taco was so small. $3.50 for barely any mushrooms.. a taco should be filled! It was really good, though. My friends food had amazing flavor. Our waiter checked to see if our food was good and then disappeared again. My friend raised his hand to attempt to get someone's attention. Servers saw us, walked by, there was no team work within the group. We had to stand up and really attempt to be seen, even though the restaurant was empty. Additionally, I'm well aware of the stigm that "black people don't tip".. well, I was a server. So, I LOVE the idea of tipping. As a server, please understand that you should provide ALL customers with the same respect, because when you don't you create a situation where you play into the stereotype. You provide poor service based on a stigma and in return, we don't tip or we tip on the lesser end of the spectrum. I would've been able to give Urban Taco more stars, but the customer service was subpar.

The peanut habanero chip dip is the best thing on the menu. I legit can't stop eating it even though my mouth is burning. I highly recommend the chicken tinga tacos. The barbacoa and al pastor weren't bad either. The chicken tinga empanadas were a little bit dry and bland though. Good drink and good atmosphere.. will be back.

Love this place, the tacos are super fresh and tasty. Prices were less expensive than expected. Drinks are really good too. Staff and atmosphere is great.

Food would be 3 stars, service is 4 stars, and seating is 3 stars. So 3 stars overall. From the outside, decor is modern and jazzy. Seating next to the wall is uncomfortable because the back of your seat is...a wall ledge. They added cushions to help pad this ledge but the cushions are too small and move around. I had the seafood ceviche. Portion size was generous with a lot of avocado. However, it was overly salty. The chips that came with was similarly salty. The bright point was the waiters were very nice and helpful.

I always heard of great Texas food. This was ahhhmmazing. The mix of flavors were perfectly matched. I got 3 tacos for $14 with 2 sides. The shrimp was the best I ever had. The spiced chips with salsa and avocados mixes were unique. The churros with ice cream were good but cheap on the ice cream serving. The frozen margarita was perfect and too strong for a second one. Revisited review: I have been able to come back to Dallas multiple times now living here a couple times a month and have visited other places. This is still my favorite. Torchis is great too but I think second to this one. They moved across the street in the same shopping area from last year. It's nice but one time it was so noisy from patrons my ears were hurting. 3 years update, yep, still great tacos!

While headed to see a film at Angelika Theater, I stopped by Urban Taco for a to-go order. I ordered their chicken quesadillas and FYI, they are three mini crunchy sections...way more like quick fried tacos than traditional quesadillas. I would have loved a bit more seasoning but overall tasted good. Biggest disappointment was that to-go orders do not come with complimentary chips and salsa. You will be charged four dollars if you order chips and salsa with your meal.
