Urbanbelly - West Loop

This trip was part of my trip to Timeout Marketplace and it was fantastic. I have been wanting to try this place for quite a while. We arrived right before opening this past Saturday and as we stood at the counter the cook asked if we had any questions and that they were about to open. This lady was happy and friendly and welcoming. I had the Chicken Katsu Kare with udon noodles. It had the perfect amount of spice and the serving size was surprisingly large. I also had the Thai fried cauliflower. This was a bit more spicy than the Katsu and tasted amazing. I advise everyone to try this place it’s so worth it!

Korean fried chicken in gochujang is really good. Spice was 4 outta 5 heat level. Kinda expensive but on par with the other places prices.

In time out market food hall, they make a good BAO and the cauliflower dish was tasty. Ramen available at the booth next door by the same owner. Aching to go back and try that.

I ordered the Korean BBQ beef and rice. I was served ground beef on top of rice. I'm not sure in what universe Korean BBQ beef is ground, but I sure don't want to live in it. Beef was very lacking in flavor. The only reason the meal was edible was because I paid a dollar extra for some sweet chili - sauce on the side. The rice was fine, but not exceptional. Don't bother ordering Korean BBQ Beef. Try something else.

This place is absolute trash why the heck did you ground the Korean BBQ beef? The udon noodles tasted like Indian food, what are you guys even doing? This is some of the worst "Korean bbq" I've ever had. More accurately, this is actually some of the worst food I've ever had in general.

Checks two things: it's Asian and it's comfortable. It may just have an uncomfortable price. Bill Kim is an accomplished local chef who has opened this space inside the Time Out Market. Has all kinds of noodles. There's a bunch to choose from obviously. A pretty popular option in this hipster market on Fulton. It's on the first floor on the west side of the market. There's often a pretty long line it seems. Annoying but okay. It means this is good stuff. Only bad thing is it gets expensive. The noodles are topped with lots of stuff. It's about $18 for a bowl. Last time got the Veggie Ramen. A bunch of noodles in shoyu broth. That's a broth made from soy. Came with lots of vegetables full of flavor. There was cabbage, cilantro, eggs which I left off, marinated bean sprouts, mushrooms, radish, scallions, and tofu. Filling bowls. It's kind of expensive but these are bowls packed full of stuff. There's even a bowl of ramen that's okay for vegetarians.

What a great location. Inside the food hall. Plenty of seating in a beer hall style. All the restaurants are on the outer square with a bar spreading the entire square on the outside. Every restaurant is an order take a beeper and sit down wait for the lights to go off and come back and pick up your order. Kim's serves up fresh food with some great combinations. The flavor comes out. I enjoyed the special of the day. Different size noodles which gave the dish a lot of texture and weight. A really great spot to try inside the West Loop food hall. There are plenty of options and depending on your mood you have options. This place gives you some noodles your choice of protein and then a mixture of fresh herbs and spices. Chose your temperature wisely it can bring a little heat. Definitely worth a repeat choice.

This was my first time at Timeout (lol) and have to say what a warm welcome. It's essentially a food hall, so was not looking for some fine dining experience--just something low stakes for a quick bite and drinks with a friend. We made a beeline straight to the ramen of course. I'm a pretty big soup/broth girlie and I thought this one was delicious actually. I had the spicy shrimp and I LOVED that they weren't gun shy on the heat. Really savory and good things happening all around. Between the two of us I don't think we had a drop left. Loved our dishes and especially enjoyed eating them at the rooftop by the upstairs bar. Such a fun scene. The reviews are kinda harsh if you ask me so don't be dissuaded, my only complaint was the price but then again I grew up on cup noodles haha.

Not the best or worst bowl of ramen I've had especially at a food hall, however what we ordered vs. received was very questionable. We wanted a quick snack before heading to dinner, so we tried the Shrimp Ramen-Spicy Shrimp, Savory Pork Broth, Chili Garlic Marinade, Korean Chili Powder. Our main grip was that it tasted like instant ramen you can make at home, with the broth very simple, few pieces of shrimp thrown in, and the worst part....the egg-it was a hard boiled egg instead of a jammy egg. Anyone who orders ramen from a restaurant knows that it's supposed to be undercooked so that the yolk is jammy, but it was overcooked and not to perfection. I'm sure there are far more authentic ramen spots in West Loop, but if you're in a pinch for ramen, then this is not too bad of a choice!

I'm a sucker for noodles, and Bill Kim's Asian Comfort Food called out to me as soon as I entered the TimeOut Food Hall. We got the veggie ramen bowl, full of chewy noodles and a sweet, almost tangy broth brimming with vegetables. We also got a peanut noodle salad - no soup, but plenty of toppings, with salty peanuts and spicy add-ins. These two dishes hit all the spots and filled our bellies while we sat at the long picnic tables watching other locals and tourists explore the food. The key is "comfort food" and Bill Kim serves it up right!

I wish I had read some reviews before trying this place as I was equally as disappointed as some of them were. I ordered the spicy shrimp ramen ($18). Firstly, it wasn't spicy at all, which was disappointing. The broth isn't as rich as most ramen places - a bit on the watery side. I was a bit confused with the coleslaw mix veggie toppings as they did not go well with the ramen - some bites of the cabbage were very bitter. I did appreciate that they gave a good amount of shrimp. I was sad that they gave a plain hard boiled egg and not a ramen egg. My friend ordered the chicken wonton ramen ($18), and he gives 1/5. The wontons contain lemon zest that overpowers any other flavors. Once I tried his ramen, I could not get rid of the lemon flavor out of my mouth. I would recommend the spicy shrimp ramen I've over the chicken wonton ramen. Time Out market has a lot of good options and I would not recommend trying Bill Kim's as a first option.

One of many incredible food options in the Time out market! Went here on a Friday night and the place was busy! It's open seating and had no problem finding a table for a large group. After several loops around the marker we decided on Bill Kim ramen bar. They had about 8 different options. All liked incredible. We decided on the shrimp ramen and dumplings. They were so incredibly fresh, hot and flavorful!! The spice was just enough in the ramen! The staff was super friendly and quick.

I couldn't understand some of the terrible reviews. We came here early so we go the first order in and we thought the ramen was one of the best we've tasted. We had also just arrived and we starving. The food hall was empty at that point with only the coffee shop open. The bathroom is really nice and clean as well.

This noodle had a very unique interesting texture I've never experienced before wirh a slight hint of spicy. I still prefer ramens with broth as my favorite foods are Soups/Stews

I've had mixed experiences with ramen, but this one was solid. Looking at the other reviews, maybe I got lucky? I had the chicken ramen and loved the flavors and how warm and delicious the broth was. The chicken wontons were heavy, making the dish even more filling than a typical ramen. And the noodles were fantastic. I wasn't able to finish it all, but I'd go back for more.

Ordered the chicken bao sliders... meh. First, the staff accidentally gave us cauliflower version instead, and right as we were about to dig in they said they had messed up the order. That's totally fine! What's not is that they took the bao back for the other customer...they should've remade it. Chicken bao tasted like weird kung pao chicken nuggets with heavy mayo slaw. Honestly a bizarre aftertaste and all around not appetizing - you get sweet, some spicy, some bland mayo, and then that odd aftertaste. Also for $13ish to just get two baby buns with a few chicken bites between the buns, total? Come on. Wouldn't recommend...maybe other things are better, and it's just the sweet/tangy sauce on the buns that's a miss.

Best food at the whole market! No need to walk around haha. Get the ramen bowl and go hang out upstairs and people watch with your date or group of friends! Even go by yourself! It is very cool.

If you like Urbanbelly, you'll like this food hall option. Bill Kim is the mastermind behind both. Urbanbelly is in my Top Ramen spots in Chicago, but there's a considerable drop off after High 5 and Wasabi. Those are easily the best around. I'm not sure if UB is 3 or 5, but they're in the mix. We're entering the perfect ramen weather so stop in and try a bowl. You won't be disappointed.

This place caught our attention while checking out the Time Out Market for the first time. I was curious about the Katsu Udon Soup which is a fusion across Japanese, Vietnanese, and, I think, a little Thai. The chicken pho broth is an interesting touch. I liked tasting the fennel seeds that let me know the broth was using authentic Viet herbs. The lime leaf roasted peanuts, delicious on their own, I think detracted from the rest of the dish which is filled with more subtle flavors and spices. I don't really like the combination of the crispy fried chicken katau with a soup. Katsu goes better with a thick type of soup or curry. The pork wontons had an overpowering sauce that detracted from the filling. Service was good and portion size was good.

I was so excited to try out the Ramen but it's hard to enjoy a $20 bowl of noodles when it comes with a plain hard boiled egg. It wasn't jammy or marinated. It looked like something I'd pick off the shelf at Jewel. The broth and noodles were actually ok but not worth the price. Very disappointing. We tried both the pork and shrimp ramen but they were both underwhelming. I'd like to go back and try their other offerings, maybe they're better.

WORST RAMEN EVER... $20 for watery, flavorless ramen. this egg was HARD BOILED..... who does that? i had to finish bc it would've been a waste of $20.

Literally some of the worst ramen of my life. Weird spices and they just put ham in there? And pineapple? I wanted to try it bc it sounded unique but it ended up tasting like a botched Hawaiian pizza.

I came to Time Out Market with a couple friends of mine. There are so many options, but it was easy enough to settle on Bill Kim as the first place I was going to try in this food hall. The friends I had just mentioned, we had just come from doing the Polar Plunge and jumping into a very cold Lake Michigan. Bill Kim's offered two kinds of noodle soup, which is exactly what they day called for. Food: Katsu Udon Noodle Soup - this was really good and the broth had depth of flavor. All the fixings were perfect. I would recommend getting the katsu on the side so that you can add it as you want and it'll stay crunch for better texture variation. Ramen Special - the broth was much better than expected in a good way. Totally delicious. My friend had gotten this, she got the dumplings on the side, which was a great option, but at the same time...my only issue with this dish was the dumplings. They ran on the salty side (they were well made and super crunch...just salty). The sauce that came with it...didn't really help the issue. Other than that, would also totally recommend this as well. TLDR: definitely worth checking out, can't wait to come back and try more items. Price point is good as well.

When I first entered Time Out Market I wasn't sure what I had entered. Was it a club? A restaurant? A bar? It was like some hip paradise for millennials. They were blasting music from when I was kid along with a lot of today's hits (the playlist was awesome though). The entire venue is three floors and very crowded. I was fortunately to easily find a seat near Bill Kim's restaurant. Each restaurant in Time Out Market is fairly small and the choices are limited. I chose the Phat Ramen and an order of fried dumplings. A lot of the dishes here seem like they are fusion dishes or various Asian countries. There was an udon with pho broth, but I chose to go with the ramen that seem Chinese influenced. The Phat Ramen came with shrimp, ground beef, fried dumplings, and broccoli. It's definitely ingredients you don't usually see in a ramen. The broth was also not that of a typical ramen. It was essentially the broth that you see from a more typical beef noodle soup from Chinese cuisine. The dish was definitely unique and interesting, but it most certainly was not a ramen. It was more of a different take on Chinese noodle soups. The fried dumplings were the same as those found in my soup, but had a sauce drizzled over them. Overall, both dishes were solid, but nothing that dazzled me. There's no service in Time Out Market since it's essentially a giant food court, so you're given a buzzer to get your food. The soup dishes can be quite heavy, so you should try to find seating near the restaurant stall since you'll have to carry your tray of food from the stall to your seat. Water is also served from the bar and not the restaurants.

It was pretty bad. Didn't have to wait too long considering that it's in the TimeOut Market. But it definitely wasn't worth it. Was really bland. If you come to Timeout get something else. And honestly it was just as good as making the ramen from Walmart.

The worlds okayest ramen. Unfortunately it felt like I was eating Pho instead of ramen. We were really excited to try this place but it kinda fell short of our expectations. And at a whopping 17$ per bowl, it could've been better.

Amazing food! After looking at the various options at Time out market we settled on this place. Between two people we ordered the caramelized pork dumplings ($9), hot chicken boa buns ($12 for 2 buns), and katsu udon soup ($14). Everything was so flavorful and very well balanced. I'm not sure I can pick a favorite because it was all super good!! The flavors, textures, everything was on point. Highly recommend!

I tried several at Bill Kim. And it is really good. They have classic LAMB FRIED RICE (little bit spicy) and Udon Soup ( which i think it is okay), I would recommended the shrimp Poke Bowl, The sauce is the highlight of the dish.

Weird tasting ramen....pineapple...cilantro...smoked pork...i did not understand what i was eating. Was i eating pho or ramen?
