HAGS Wants To Be NYC’s Best Version Of A Queer Potluck

"It’s important to Justice and Lindsley that they support other activists in the field. Auxillio and Ediciones are two projects built to address racial disparity in food by providing accessible food programming as well as organizing mutual aid efforts. “Auxilio and Ediciones were founded by a team of queers we love and are lucky to call friends: Zacarías González, Raquel Makler, Tony Ortiz, Kia Damon, Hai Vo, and Mohammed Fayaz,” Justice and Lindsley say. “If you’ve been to a block party, a wine dinner, or pop-up this past year, it’s likely the team was there making things run smoothly, pouring fun wines, feeding you delicious food, and generally setting a lovely vibe. The goal of these projects is to include Black, BIPOC, trans, and queer folks who are otherwise excluded from both the cooking of, and enjoying of, world-class food.”" - sam stone 1

Team Behind Anthony Bourdain’s Food Hall Revives Plans With Singaporean Hawker Center in Midtown - Eater NY

"The ambitious, Anthony Bourdain-backed food hall slated to open at Pier 57 — a project that fell apart almost exactly four years ago — is back. This time around, Urbanspace and Singaporean street food expert KF Seetoh, both major players in bringing the marketplace to New York City the first time around, are planning to debut a facsimile of Singapore’s famed hawker centers in early 2022 in Midtown at 135 West 50th Street, between Sixth and Seventh avenues." - Bao Ong

Came here as a family as we couldn't agree which cuisine to eat. The Mykonos salad was lovely and fresh (Greek stand) and definitely filled a plant craving after pizza and burgers! Daughter had mac n cheese and hubby ate bao buns and spring rolls, washed down with a beer from the market bar. Really good, fresh food from all stands and relatively quiet for 7pm. Cheap eats too! 😎

Great variety of fresh, flavorful dishes from different world cuisines. A real treat for the palate!

Went to BullChicken for a Korean BBQ Chicken Sandwich w/Fries. Great selections at this UrbanSpace. I liked this sandwich, it was packed with flavor & plenty, bbq sauce was great! Does look better than it taste but it was not bad, fries were good too.

Google
Literally the only reasons I gave the atmosphere 4 stars is because of the lack of charging ports in the upstairs eating area where we ate. That floor could also do with some more bathrooms and the main floor was pretty chilly as well. A couple members of my party have gluten sensitivities, so that is how we stumbled across this food court for lunch for our few-day-vacation of NY. We ended up for lunch going to a place called "twentyonegrains", which their menu was COMPLETELY gluten-free. The best part for me was the build-your-own-salad option and that was what I got. Delicious! Then our whole party went for drinks to "Petisco Brazuca", a brazilian restaurant and most us got the brazilian cherry juice. All in all, we as a whole had a fantastic experience!

Google
A very well operated indoor dining court. It is always clean and the variety of food offerings is quite impressive. There is also seating for diners on both floors. Arrive early on cold and hot days during lunch due to crowds.

Google
The shrimp tempura bao bun was pretty good but the duck bao was super salty and the dumplings forgettable. Doesn’t make the cut to go back to this one restaurant but will try one other in the space and see if it improves.

Google
Nice variety of ethnic cuisines at booths where you can design your own bowls, Korean, Japanese, Italian, Vegan, more.... About $15-$20 per entree. Make to-go plates, salads, etc. Seamore's is the friendly bar on one side. If you're not eating at the bar, the only comfortable seating is outdoors in an attractive plaza.

Google
Had a wonderful time visiting Lolo's Chicken Shack in the new Urbanspace. The Salmon was great with the Pineapple Salsa and roasted potatoes... Yum!!!! I know I'll be back and you should definitely check it out.

Yelp
Was visiting NYC and wanted to visit one of these food halls that have been popping up all over. So we came here. I really like this concept. They have a bar and an open seating area. There are many food stalls (pics attached). You order and pay at each individual food stall's counter. I went with Pita Yeero. My husband and I shared a bowl that they assembled in front of me. It included chicken yeeros; brown rice; cherry tomatoes and cucumber salad; hummus; egg plant dip and hot sauce (sorry no pic). All of these items were included (they had other selections as well) for $15.75. It was a lot of delicious food and is good value. Can't wait to try another food stall.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of the food court movement in nyc. The spaces are usually new and clean with good AC. They also usually have a decent variety of stuff - Indian, deli sandwiches, coffee, Asian, etc. this place is a little tight but it has an upstairs area for dining. It's not exactly cheap but convenient in midtown for lunch or whatever. Did I mention they have great ac?
google avatar

Yelp
A surprising amount of different restaurants/ food options jammed into this space. We had a group of around 10 On an evening before an event at Rockefeller center. Had a combo of Greek, Mexican, burgers and noodles between us. Food was all pretty decent and came out quickly. Several of us also grabbed a drink from the bar, then ate outside, although there are also seats inside upstairs.

Yelp
This place is next to my office, but I never went inside or really knew much about it. It's a large space with several different food and drink vendors. When one of my colleagues left, we had a going away drink for him. We stayed in the front at Seamore's but to my riposte, I noticed there was a Roberta's in the back. I've always wanted to try that place, and in the near future, I'll be able to. The space is here is ample, and in the summer the outdoor area is jam packed. I would say this is the perfect place for lunch or an after work drink.

Yelp
Fast, fresh, local food in a fast urban space. I love this little food spot in midtown, especially when I'm in a rush. Friendly restaurant owners and staff...go here tourist people! You won't be sad that you did.
google avatar

Yelp
great place to eat lunch if in midtown manhattan, with a variety of cuisines, all for reasonable prices. It will get pretty crowded during peak lunchtime. Wasn't crazy about the number of bathrooms, and there was no place at all to fill up your reusable water container with filtered water.
google avatar

Novella N.

Yelp
This is definitely a great spot to pick up lunch if you work in Midtown. However, I like to stop here for Partners Coffee! If you need a caffeine boost, their seasonal drinks are always worth a try. I will eventually order out from one of the other booths here!

She makes amazing drinks

Yelp
Eh, not my favorite spot. There's very little seating, the options are mediocre, and the one place I got food from was a letdown.
google avatar

Yelp
I am currently eating a bowl from 21 Grains. I almost broke a tooth on the first bite. Turns out half the rice is either undercooked or got completely dried out (see pic). Guys... this place is named after the grain. Really? I can hardly eat my lunch but don't have time to go back out. Bowl chosen advertised "softened broccoli rabe" and a squirt of Sriracha. There is a bit of roasted regular broccoli, and zero sauce of any kind. Really disappointed. Two stars because the piece of plain roasted salmon is fine.

Yelp
Was excited to try out this food hall but disappointed in the quality and food offered here. If you like Asian fusion food then this might be worth a shot, but if you're looking for authentic then I'd say skip. It's cute inside but small, and the bao spot does give big portions.

Martin M.

Yelp
This place was amazing. So many great options. Some friends I was with who happen to be from Brazil, were ecstatic to see that there was a Brazilian place there, and they loved it as well.
google avatar

Yelp
A food spot with many options ranging from small bites to meals and açaí bowls to Asian cuisine to Italian. Good lunch spot with outdoor and indoor seating.

Yelp
My daughter had a chorizo burrito at the Mexican place. My wife had sushi at the Japanese place. And I had some food at the Indian restaurant. The burrito was good and my wife's dish was also good. My Indian food was just ok. Great selection in general. Not sure I will go back. We went there for the variety but it was average.

Yelp
It's a cute food hall but kind of overpriced. I left hungry. [CONEY SHACK] I got the short rib hotdog - the flavors were good but it was REALLY messy so make sure to grab a fork/spoon, and a ton of napkins in advance. It wasn't the flavor I was personally expecting, but still good. I paid about $14 for the hotdog that didn't really even fill me up which annoyed me. My friend got one of their roti wraps which was maybe $12? and it looked like the $1 quesadilla from taco bell - it was pathetically small. Decent tasting but very small. Seating is kind of nice and open but also a bit awkward. Hoping to come back soon to try more and take it to go.

Yelp
Great concept with small food vendors. The space is comfortably laid out with ample seating, both upstairs and down. It's warehouse like, so the noise is a little overwhelming. However there is a little bit of everything here, which would be great for groups. I had a Happy Lobster roll with vinegar slaw. Delicious! And a nice size portion for a lobster roll. My husband really enjoyed his burger and fries from Edzo's. And we couldn't miss some incredible donuts from Stan's. The croissant donut is simply dreamy - sugar coated with custard layered in - perfection!
google avatar

Karishma P.

Yelp
Too loud no one can hear your order and it's always wrong. Tried 3 times 3 different places and the food was always overpriced and disappointing. Urbanspace Vanderbilt and Lexington are good.

Olivia T.

Yelp
Do not order from Mysttik Masala here. Inaccurate food listings, rude staff, order took over 30 minutes and was not as listed. They claim to offer "chana saag", which is actually extremely spicy chana masala with a few spinach leaves on top. Completely inedible! Do not go here!

Yelp
Wow , Urbanspace has now opened their new food hall with over a dozen vendors some of which are not found at there other locations. The layout is similar to Urbanspace Lex which also has a mezzanine level. It's is in the back side of the AXA Building and has entrances on 52th Street and on Avenue 6 1/2, yes 6 1/2 look it up it a pedestrian walkway running across several blocks and had outside seating during the summer months. Their is also an interesting mural that spreads out the name 'named 'Urbanspace W52' across the width of the food hall. The vendor list is as followings; Black Iron Burger               Classic American Burgers Cafe Patoor                        Brazilian Brigadeiro cake, breads Call Me Pasta                     Customizable pasta bar City Tamale                        Mexican food gluten-free! Coney Shack                     Hot Dogs, Tacos with an Asian twist Dorado                              Mexican street food Eisenberg's                        Deli sandwiches Egg Cream Go Fish Sushibox              Sushi rolls Shasimi LoLo's Chichen Shack       Customizable Chicken bowls Partner's Coffee               Cafe Pita Yeero                          Greek street food Plant Junkie                       Vegan Robertas                            Wood fired Pizza Sustainable Seafood         Seafood Tomo Tomo                       Ramen Don't wait for reviews, just go and try them out for yourself their has to be a least 3 or 4 that you will like.

Yelp
I will be collectively reviewing places as I try it! Lolo's chicken shack (1/5). What a weird concept. You get hot rice and chicken on top of cold salad. They should make the sides warm. I got the yellow rice and lentil base which came with no lentil but rather raisins. It was really dry. Then I got the lime chicken which was basically boiled chicken with no flavor that was boiled so much that there's zero moisture in the chicken. The chilled broccoli salad which is cold boiled broccoli. The coco curry sauce which was good but you'd need 4x the amount to make up for the dryness. And the jicama salad on the side which was fine. Tomo Tomo: (5/5). I got the house special ramen with an extra egg and added on karaage to make it a combo. It came with a good amt of karaage so that was definitely good value for the extra $2.50. All the ramen comes with 2 pieces of pork belly (guessing except the veggie ramen), bamboo shoots, spinach, and scallions. They should make that more clear so the cashier isn't explaining it 2x per minute. Everything tasted great. The broth is really rich/thick and there isn't that much of it - I might have preferred a lighter broth. I came at 1:20pm and even though they say they have only 50 quantities of the house special, I was able to get it. The egg was cooked BEAUTIFULLY. Pork belly was very tender and thick as well. Pita Yeerp (3.5/5). I got the bowl (salad + grape leaves + pita) with sides of marinated beans + french fries, got a mix of the lamb and chicken, topped with spicy feta. All came out to $13 something for a TON of food. They also had spanokopita and soup that I'd like to try next time but the cashier rushed everything so I couldn't order it in time. The fries were meh (kinda stale), the beans were fine, the salad was like a cole slaw that was fine, the meat was fine and I couldn't really tell the difference between them, grape leaves were fine, spicy feta was fine. I took issue with the fact that you are mixing hot + cold (the spicy feta was really cold and made the meat cold) so I microwaved everything (incl the salad).

Yelp
This is like an upscale food court. So many great choice. Good place for a group. Teenagers loved it. Fun concept. We'll be back.

Yelp
Eisenberg's - get it together. I ordered a corned beef on rye with mustard. Simple order. They made me a Reuben. I caught this when they handed it to me and reiterated my order, corned beef on rye with mustard. I get back to my desk and noticed my sandwich smelled a little off. I lift up the bread and they basically made a Reuben without the Russian dressing. So I go back and ask for the correct order, corned beef on rye with mustard and get asked if I want cheese and if I wanted sauerkraut. I finally get the right order and the sandwich was just not good. I don't think they seasoned the corned beef. It was very bland, almost like they just boiled the beef with no seasoning. I would avoid this place until they figure it out. Day 2 - tried Margherita pizza at Roberta's. Ordered the small which is the size of a paper plate for $13+ with tax. Not impressed, lacked taste. You're better off going to one of the pizza food trucks in the area. I'll keep trying with Urbanspace, so far other than the convenience of the location there's nothing special about it. Long gone are the days of the under $10 lunch. Day 3 - Lolo's Chicken Shack - ordered Lime Chicken with brown rice and potatoes and green sauce. My order came to $14.70. Wasn't terrible nor was it something I would order again. Not really much taste to it. The best thing I've had so far at Urbanspace but for the price I expect more. I'm not really sure how many more vendors I will try at this rate, nothing has really been worth writing home about. I've noticed a 5 star review - looks like it's more about the concept, and a 4 star review similar to it. Are these people somehow connected to Urbanspace or Yelp employees? Asking for a friend :)

Yelp
Half the spots are closed at dinner time and the ones that stay open stop serving food at 8 pm.
google avatar

Frank K.

Yelp
We went here hearing how cool Urbanspace is. But we didn't realize that over half the restaurants would be closed at dinner time. We tried Plant Junkie, Roberta's and Kuro-obi and found all of them just okay or worse. It was probably the worst meal we had during our Manhattan trip. Oh well, you can't win them all.
google avatar

Benton K.

Yelp
Ok spot to grab a quick bite. Couple of them around the city. Selection is decent and the prices at the food vendors are good.

Yelp
Bought lunch at City Tamale on a Saturday afternoon. Ordered the 2 tamale combo with rice and beans. Added a small cup of soup ($5)!!! Awfully dry tamales. Wasn't even wrapped in husks in the takeout container. Soup was served in a 4 oz. container. Did mention it was $5??? Threw away $20 of garbage. Avoid at all costs.

Ref R.

Yelp
Call me Pasta - bland rigatoni with little meat sauce... And they don't include cheese on the side (unless they forgot) Not worth $13!!!...and a tip for doing what extra for me??? Tip subsidizes the owner!!!...

Yelp
This review is for Eisenberg. Ever since Pastrami Queen @ 49st closed I've been trying to find a decent pastrami sandwich. Was hoping this place would have it since they're a deli sandwich place, but I wouldn't come back. The sandwich is worst than Juniors @ 49st (a tourist trap). Eisenberg's Pastrami is tough, burnt and over cooked. It's as if they're serving pastrami about to go bad since they're double cooking it for reheat. Also this place is stupidly set up. The space from the counter to the rope barrier is very narrow, only enough space for 1 person. Once you place your order the common courtesy is to step farthest down the counter so the next person can order. The stupidity is the the person handing out the completed orders stands right next to the cashier/order taker. So they just call out your name and place the bag right at the counter near the cashier and none of the staffs bothers to hand your order directly to you even when they see where your standing. You can only hope that other nice customers will pass your order down to you. This is also how I know this place doesn't care besides serving bad food. I'll still go back to Urbanspace 52 to what the other stalls have to offer.
google avatar

Liz F.

Yelp
This place was great! It was described to me as an upscale food court. I loved the food choices, there's something for everyone and considering it is in the middle of the tourist section of NYC the prices were pretty fair. They had a ramen place, a sushi place, burger, vegetarian, taco, and much more. There was even a bar for those that wished to partake. Most of the seating was upstairs and it was a little noisy up there but it was lunchtime and crowded, but no so crowded we couldn't find a place to sit. I would go back.
google avatar

Ceecee Y.

Yelp
Urban Space at West 52nd Street is a great addition to the fast casual midtown west lunch/dinner options. I went at an off peak time in the afternoon and found the food hall to be fairly full and lively. They have a wide array of vendors serving a great variety of foods (including tacos, sushi, burgers, pizza, vegetarian foods.) I went to Cafe Patoro and loved the cheesy bread that they served; so excited to go back and try all the options.

eden r.

Yelp
This review is for Eisenbergs at Urbanspace 52. Went to the urban space today. Decided to get a corned beef and pastrami combo reuben. Let's just say I won't be back for this sandwich. Very soggy and not much meat and half the meat was fat! Pastrami was more a brown color than red. My recommendation is skip the sandwich. Now need to find something else for lunch.
google avatar

Lisa J.

Yelp
This is more a review for the pasta place inside this UrbanSpace - "Call Me Pasta". I had the cacio e pepe, and it was authentic, al dente, and delicious. They seem to serve real Italian sized portions, so some Americans might be disappointed that it's not the heaping bowl that like an Olive Gatden would serve. I haven't been to the other spots in this food hall yet, but would definitely go back for pasta.

Amanda L.

Yelp
I waited until I'd tried a few places to rate and overall I've enjoyed the food at this location. Pita Yeero was really delicious - the pork gyro was very tender, and you could tell their gigantes are made in house and marianted in a really sweet and delicious tomato sauce. They also have a honey mustard option, which I rarely see in Greek places in the States, and I really appreciate. Tomo Tomo's tonkatsu broth is super thick, and while I don't think I can get it every day for fear of falling asleep at my desk, it was so satisfying, especially today when the temperature is so cold out. The marinated egg had a perfectly drippy yolk, the noodles had the right amount of bite, and the chashu pork was firm, but came apart easily when added to the broth. Finally, the Sushi station (I forget the name of it) - the salmon bowl I got was okay. The fish itself was fresh and very tender, but the rice was a bit too dense, and to be honest, the prices were a bit high. Across the board, I'd say the prices do tend to fall on the higher end, and ultimately some of the stations at this location will be worth it more than the others.

Yelp
Used to work next door and was waiting for this to open after Bobby Flay's restaurant closed a few years ago. And yesterday we got the chance having scored tx to watch the taping of the Steven Colbert show. I went straight for the Greek food, namely Pita Yeero. Had the grain bowl with 2 meats, hummus, spicy fava beans, brown rice, beans, grape leaves, hummus and pita. A large portion for $12 and very tasty. Chatted with the owner about Greece and he gave us free spinach pies. Hubby had their bakalva for dessert and loved it. He also opted for Roberta's pizza. Had an individual pizza with cheese, sausage and honey with a very thin crust. Said it was delish. A welcome additional to the 5 star restaurants around the Rockefeller Center area.

Jessie L.

Yelp
This place is a logistical nightmare. First thing I was greeted with was a single revolving door to get in, with a line of people waiting ....I should have taken that as a sign. Inside, there is absolutely NO system of management for the lines. They sprawl out to the point that you have no idea what stall a line is for, or where they end. I understand that a food hall in this area will be packed, especially since we've all been lacking lunch options for so long, but they really either didn't expect or properly plan for the demand.
