There Are 10,000 People Waiting for These Filipino Doughnuts. That's No Surprise. | Bon Appétit

"Founded in 1979 and expanded into a small California chain with four locations, this bakery is known for hot pandesal and white loaves swirled with flavors like ube, cheese, or mongo (red mung bean), reflecting an enduring tradition of Filipino-style breads adapted to local ingredients." - ByJasmine Ting

Filipino dinner rolls right from the ovens always the best snack and I got mine after work with halo halo desserts

Google
Valerio's Bakery offers a delightful variety of Filipino bread, making it a popular spot for those seeking authentic flavors. The highlight is their hot pandesal, which is available fresh in the mornings and is a must-try. While the bakery has a wide selection, the overall quality is average. It's a reliable spot for a taste of home but doesn't stand out in terms of exceptional baking. If you're in the mood for traditional Filipino bread, it's worth a visit.

Google
8/2/20 = 3 star = its okey , but do notice that pandesal here a lot smaller than o ther branches .

I went this morning with friends and was very disgusted. I've gone in the past and fabulous food, it's amazing. But today the lady at the register who picks and packs the food orders was running her fingers through her hair and scalp. I saw her go to the sink thinking she was going to wash her hands but she proceeds to wet her hands and splash water around on her face and then to run her wet hands through her hair again. She did not wash her hands and didn't use any soap and then went back to the register asking us what we'd like from the display case. If we asked for anything she would have just grabbed the food with her hands and there were no gloves around either. Very unsanitary and unsafe for an establishment handing food. It's a shame because the food IS good but I was couldn't bring myself to buy anything after seeing that.

Although the place is small, I really like the way they make their Chicken Empanadas and Ube pandesal, banana and camote cue, bonete, and señorita bread better than other Valerios I’ve been. The staff is not so cheerful except if the one who has a pixie cut! I ought to ask her her name so I can put it on another review.

Google
Always a friendly smile as you come in. Their pandesal is so good, and there is a difference from others. The bread with cheese inside is always a HIT at work. Never can get enough! Their prices are just right. Does not hurt the pocket.

I have been coming here for years thanks to my grandkids. There bread is so fresh. My kids like the coconut balls with the glaze. Will always be one of my favorites.

Google
Something yummy's baking in the oven! Valerio's is a local Pilipino bakeshop that I've been frequenting for many years. They don't offer wedding cakes, cake pops, macarons etc., but what they do offer is fresh breads (like the ubiquitous pan de sal), assorted kakanin (rice desserts such as kalamay & biko) & some savory dishes hot or in the refrigerator. People rave about their chicken empanadas, Pinoy-style w/ raisins. Myself, I love their hopia (monggo, ube & red bean are what I buy). In the morning & until they run out for the day, Valerio's sells taho, a sweet tofu dessert w/ brown sugar & sago pearls. It's a dish usually eaten warm, but I also like it cold. Whenever I shop for groceries at Seafood City, I come by & see if there's any left. Parking can be bad on the weekends, w/ everyone shopping for groceries. During the week, not bad at all. Side note - there is a Fruit monger selling fruits out of his van in front of the store. He'll have whatever's in season. I had the chance to try cherimoya for the first time here a long while ago & it instantly became my favorite fruit. I now have 5 grafted trees in 5 gal containers in the backyard, because they are very expensive to buy (around $5/lb) & are very tasty. Matamis! (Sweet in Tagalog).

Yelp
Best empanadas in town -- and the best lady behind the counter! Valerio's City Bakery never disappoints me. Their chicken empanadas are hands-down one of the best we ever had -- golden crust, savory filling, and always fresh. We loved them so much I came back and ordered 4 dozen to bring to my husband in Texas this weekend. That's how much we love them! (Ang sipsip ko--). Also, big appreciation to the kind and cheerful lady behind the counter -- she always makes you feel welcome and remembered. Excellent service every time. (Nag senior moment ako I can't remember her name). If you're craving authentic Filipino-style empanadas, this is the spot. *Packed 4 dozen of Valerio's famous chicken empanadas for a Texas trip -- worth every bite! Even my Muslim mechanic and company likes to eat them.

Yelp
A great place to grab a chocolate cookie for your 3 year old on a Sunday. They also have good butter cookies. There isn't any seating but lots of Philipino baked goods to grab and go. Also the cookies are a nice size and only $1.30 each. They also take Apple Pay.
google avatar

Eunice P.

Yelp
This is a small to go establishment. No seating. I think the pastries are affordable. There wasn't much pricing everywhere so I bought w/out truly knowing. I got the turón which was good. I got pancit malabon which was probably the expensive item but it's super packed so basically two meals in one. Garlicky, crunchy w/ cabbage and onion. Lots of stuff inside. I liked it. I tried the Nutella and cream cheese but the bread was too dry for me and very little filling. I like generous amounts of filling to bread like 1:1 ratio. This was a thin layer baked inside that I could just get a hint of Nutella, but there was a glob of cream cheese I guess got pushed during baking onto one end which was enjoyable. Also tried the ensaymada macapuno. Good flavor but again, on the dry side. The lady was friendly inside. Lots of options in here but mostly in bulk so more than 1 item sold together. Like multiples packed together or a big portion.

Maria Rita G.

Yelp
My brother brought home Valerios empanadas. He said the larger ones are beef and the smaller ones are chicken. I chose a beef empanada. This is NOT beef at all. It's chicken.
google avatar

Katrina V.

Yelp
This is the third Valerio's bakery that I have been to. I kind of want to visit them all and compare notes. The recipes kind of prove true to be similarly yummy. I noticed that different from the Carson location that here in the Cerritos one as soon as you enter, there are two refrigerated cases to your left where the first one holds all the pan de sal stuffed with pork or chicken. I guess at the Carson location the clientele there tends to grab that stuff up faster so since it sells out so fast they don't need to refrigerate it. (I've seen it with my own eyes! And numerous times I miss out on the pan de sal corned beef sandwiches because there are always no more by the time we get there.) In this Cerritos location, there's also a table of goodies also under glass, including the delicious ensaymada cheese butter sugar brioche bread which we got one of. We also got a bag of potato chips that are specially made from the Philippines. And a bag of bread rolls called SPUTNIK. Nom nom noms...
google avatar

Rom D.

Yelp
Service is friendly and there's plenty of goodies. I love the fact they baked a fresh order of corned beef pan de sal. Soo good and hot off the oven.
google avatar

Czarina D.

Yelp
I love this place! There is something inherently cozy and homey about Valerio's. It has all the traditional Filipino baked goods & desserts - pan de sal, taho, carioca, biko, kalamay, etc. I've tried a majority of their baked goods and everything has been pretty good! I wouldn't say there's anything particularly outstanding. But everything is classic and tastes yummy. I also think the goods are reasonably priced. Bonus: They also sell Filipino snacks! I love Oishi's salt and vinegar cracklings! Note: There is a $5 minimum if paying with card
google avatar

Hichiro T.

Yelp
Like stopping here for the Ube bread and cheese rolls. This one is a small location but still delivers great tasting bread.

Glo M.

Yelp
Good service, love the ladies working at front, very friendly and helpful. Products are always available and they're willing to accommodate.
google avatar

Sharon R.

Yelp
I love coming here in the mornings to grab fresh baked pan de sal. I've been here a number of times and have tried their carioca, pancit malabon, turon and their cheese rolls. All are very tasty! Auntie at the register is so nice and sweet. She always has a smile on her face. I'm giving Valerio's 5 stars because of the great service and I've never been disappointed in the goodies I buy here.

Supriya G.

Yelp
I recently moved to the california people and i love it here. this has got to be the best pastries in the world. The people working there were very nice and respectful, always helping me with whatever i needed. that smell was amazing.
google avatar

Bekster T.

Yelp
I was here yesterday morning like 8:15am. I bought some pastries and their bibingka. When I got home and ate it, it was already dry inside. The bibingka cost 4.25 each. Please do not sell a day old bibingka. People pay for this much money and it's not even worth it. I ended up throwing it away. It was disappointment.

Aubs A.

Yelp
My go-to bakery for Spanish bread & freshly baked pandesal. been coming here for years.
google avatar

JC R.

Yelp
One star means "Not Good." So, it's Saturday morning, March 2021, at 8am. There's a line out the door because we're all there for the same thing, fresh pandesal. The shop allowed one guy at 8am to buy the entire stock of 12 dozen freshly baked pandesal leaving the rest of the customers without. Valerio's...use some common sense. Yikes. We were left with the old, hard pandesal on the shelves. Nice.

Yelp
Poorly managed business, who runs out of chicken empanada? The management doesn't know how to forecast the production specially during Christmas time. Actually not just Christmas time they always run out of chicken empanadas. I hope the owners carry enough to train door manager the proper way of forecasting supplies and their highly consumed and purchased products. Very poorly managed

Mica P.

Yelp
I understand making a profitable business is a demand but please do your part in helping the community by staying healthy by providing us a sanctuary whereas continue to follow the protocols of public health by wearing gloves and mask even if customers refuse to enter your premises safety sanitation is crucial the lady in the front was coughing i simply left to scared to even buy anything? I wouldn't want your business to close due to a lack of supply and demands of being untouchable and intolerable ____??? I'm sure the public agrees with what I am trying to say

Kerry K.

Yelp
Unique selection of Filipino pastries in a smaller venue.

Yelp
This bakery brings nostalgia! I love the cozy feeling I get from the employees and the warm pan de sal! Will be coming back soon

Yelp
They have all sorts of pastries and delicacies, everything looks good. But my disappointment was that when I bought their nilupak.. It didn't even taste like one. It's missing a lot of ingredients, I can tell that it was made only with the cassava , milk and too much sugar. That's all I can taste. With the price and the taste, not worth buying.please correct the quality of your product, don't label your food as such , if doesn't even taste close to one.As of your baked goods, please if it's over 1 day or week old ( depends), don't sell it, you can tell by their texture .That's all.

Yelp
Yummy Filipino goodies!! Friendly service. Favorites are the pan de sal, ensaymada & empanadas. All fresh & delicious.

Mariza O.

Yelp
Very good chicken empanada and cheese roll with cream cheese. I also get their taho, veggie lumpia, turon and garlic peanuts.
google avatar

Mary N.

Yelp
Filipino bakery that has fresh warm pan de sal daily. They also have a large variety of other baked goods like sweet breads and ube filled rolls. I really like their savory items as well like chicken pan de sal and chicken empanada. Their 5 for $1 meringues are always colorful and fun. This place is cash only.
google avatar

Kelsey M.

Yelp
1. Bicho-bicho: the best, soft, fluffy, and melts in your mouth. They sell out 8-ish in the morning. 2. Pandesal: hot and fresh from the oven every morning 3. Turon: favorite snack 4. Taho: they have it here and it's good! So, that's the skinny. This Filipino bakery is a hole in the wall but you get fresh products. Cash only.
google avatar

Rgdms E.

Yelp
I tried their pancit malabon and got disappointed. It doesnt even have any flavor. I should have gone and bought the Jollibee pancit palabok which tastes way better.
google avatar

Dfe G.

Yelp
One of the best authentic Filipino bakeries I've been to. Everything I've had has been a sweet taste of home and I always look forward to coming back! I would recommend the ube crinkles, taho, Spanish bread, Turon, and pan de Sal.
google avatar

Kriss P.

Yelp
Short & Sweet... It's a place where Filipinos go to get their bread & pastry fix. I use to come to this place all the time back when I was in middle school (2 scoops of ube ice cream, PLEASE!). Highlights & Low-lights: *Get 'em while their hot *Prices went up *Can someone please hire their daughter that can cater to the young & less fortunate Filipinos that can't speak the language (I personally don't care- it's for the benefit of others) I just don't know how to pin point it BUT Valerio's just isn't the same anymore. I will need to revisit soon!
google avatar

Ai M.

Yelp
I haven't tried the cha su bao but they have ensaymada in different flavors. The rest of their baked goods are rich in butter or cream cheese. Their empanadas are okay and the pan de sal is small. They have the best turon because its filled with jackfruit instead of only banana. Thin otap is good with black coffee.

Justine T.

Yelp
I was here on a Friday 1PM and Saturday 9AM. My 5 friends and I were curious about the bakery on Friday so we went inside and the kind lady gave us 2 big pieces of pandesal to sample. They were freshly baked, hot and steaming! I came back on Saturday to see if they had taho in the morning, but they didn't because they are waiting for ingredients to arrive, and the lady said that maybe in the next week or so they should start making it again. I got the palabok, a cassava dessert wrapped in a banana leaf $1.75 (I think it's called suman), and a coconut dessert I believe is called ginataan bilo bilo. It came out to just under $14. Everything was delicious! When I was unwrapping the cassava dessert, it looked gooey and a little unappetizing. It was one color with no filling inside to be seen and I was preparing to be disappointed. However with the first bite, I changed my mind 180 degrees. It was warm, gooey with hints of coconut flavor, with the perfect amount of balanced sweetness. I highly recommend this to first timers! It was also my first time trying the ginataan bilo bilo. It looked like Vietnamese Che so I was curious. It was similar with a coconut milk base, but I loved the chunks of ginger infused mung bean and many types of potatoes. It also wasn't too sweet and tasted very comforting. I think many people would love this dessert especially for those who like warm and soft foods. I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Caroline P.

Yelp
If you like fresh pan de sol, come here before 9am. It comes in a white bag and the bread is warm, soft and delicious.
google avatar

Theresa R.

Yelp
I love this bakery. It reminds me the bakeries back in Manila. Not the fancy corporate owned ones, but the small mom and pop ones local to your area. They have all kinds of bread - several variations of the pandesal (regular, cheese, wheat). They are several kinds of ensaymada (brioche). They have sapin sapin (a classic 3 layered rice cake with each layer being a different color). In the morning, they have taho. Taho is a warm soy bowl of awesomeness. It's served with syrup and tapioca balls. Great for breakfast or snack. They also have banana cue (saba bananas fried in caramel and served on a stick). Karioca (mochi balls fried in caramel) and turon (saba banana with jackfruit wrapped in eggroll wrapper and fried in caramel). This place does not take debit or credit cards - it's CASH only. The prices are cheap, the food is good and for all Filipinos, it brings a little bit of nostalgia in our lives.

Helsa V.

Yelp
This is for customer service only: Went here to buy baked goods, a bunch of guys inside the bakery but no one was in the counter for the customers. I waited 5min, yelled "excuse me", "can I buy please" and still no one came out or said anything. At least acknowledge your customers! I left and just went off to Pampanga's best (really good fresh Filipino baked goods :) .
google avatar

Lara L.

Yelp
The Valerio's here in Cerritos is pretty much the same up in Union City: delicious aromas and cheap prices. By 11:30am the cheese rolls were almost out (I got the last four), but they always have hot and fresh pan de sal ready to go. For $12 I got 4 cheese rolls, 4 ensaymada, 4 sugar coated donut things (I forget the name), a dozen pan de sal, a bag of six pan de ube, and a stick of 4 carioca. That's a lot of food for just 12 bucks! And all delicious. I prefer Valerio's over Goldilocks; they're cheaper and I think they taste better

Osugradinca S.

Yelp
Bakery was ok. The hopia and ube crinkles did not taste as fresh. There are many other places nearby to purchase baked goods!
google avatar

Micky H.

Yelp
The fresh pan de sal straight from the oven is what I go back here for! The bakery is not really fancy (looks like a typical corner barrio bakery in the Philippines) but wow the aroma inside makes up for the lack of interior appeal. Aside from the pan de sal (wheat dinner rolls), I get anything freshly baked from this place. You can ask them for "what just came out of the oven" items. But the frozen siopaos are also actually excellent if you want to give your mom or auntie something she can freeze and reheat lateron.

Ana Pamela P.

Yelp
The cashier had such a terrible attitude and terrible facial expression (like she hated her job and hated people) right when i walked in. No greeting and the HEALTH RATING IS B. I can definitely see why.. Place looks run down and dirty, unkempt. I would not have mind it if the employee was nice. I would not go back there ever even if the rating goes up. Terrible employee and attitude is a definite ZERO STAR. IF I COULD GIVE ZERO STARS, I WOULD..
google avatar

buddy t.

Yelp
Love there freshly pandesal in the morning! Plus the taho. And pansit palabok and all the sweet treats
google avatar

Serenity M.

Yelp
Came around 1 pm to get wheat pan de sal and siopao. I've been to lots of other Valerios where the shelves are bursting with diabetes inducing baked goods, but this definitely was not one of them. I walked in to a bakery full of EMPTY SHELVES. It's like 1 pm? What the face? I went to a vietnamese bakery earlier that same day at 9am and they were already pumping put freshly made goods. Despite the empty shelves, I asked the lady if they had pan de sal she replies with, "130". Ummm okay 130 what? Per pan de sal? Per dozen? What ever happened to full sentences? Apparently it meant that they wouldn't have any until 1:30 that day. Then I asked about siopao and again a monosyllabic reply "4" -meaning it won't be ready til 4pm. Why would you wait til the afternoon to make stuff? Empty shelves and rude responses--I will not be back to this location.
google avatar

Christine D.

Yelp
Ugh. Forget about any service if you don't speak tagalog. My aunt and I came here a couple years ago. She had some questions about the flan in the fridge. The lady at the counter gave us a dirty look and started talking to another customer in tagalog. I am never coming back here.
google avatar

Deanna Y.

Yelp
This is the secret bakery I go to indulge in carb heaven. A vast assortment of breads, cakes, buns await you in this down home filipino bakery. Everything is delicious and about 3 times cheaper than what you'll pay at Goldilocks. If you go, be sure to ask if there's something fresh out of the oven. You might be lucky enough to grab a piping hot pan de sal, chicken empanada or fried banana... perfection!
google avatar

Kristine U.

Yelp
Been coming here for years! Cheese rolls and warm pan de sal are the staples. My recent favorite is the cheese pan de sal. It's not like the ensaymada where it's like shredded cheese on top. It's more like baked into the pan de sal I think. Anyways, I just ate half a bag and I'm not ashamed at all. Except maybe when my dad asks me why there's none left. Oops.
google avatar

Rena C.

Yelp
Still my favorite go-to bakery for fresh Filipino breads and sweets. I needed something sweet to top off my lunch at Magic Wok with Mikolas, and I can't think of a better way to end a delicious Filipino lunch but with some equally delicious Filipino sweets. On this particular trip, I (or rather, Mikolas--thanks!!) picked me up some Pan de Ube. Pan de Ube tastes like a sweet dinner roll (similar to King's Hawaiian rolls) filled with sweet purple yam paste. A bag of 6 rolls is about $2.50. Other favorites of mine here: Pan de Sal, Haba-Haba, Ensaymada, Cheese Rolls, and Kurbata.
google avatar

Jash P.

Yelp
FRESH PAN DE SAL & CHEESE ROLLS. Food: a larger inventory than previous years (+) fresh (+) pan de sal is freshly baked Service: Employees are generally friendly, but during my most recent visit, the lady at the register was crabby and stressed out. She also mostly speaks only in Tagalog. Wait Time: LONG LINE--wait time was around 15-20 mins to get to the front Prices: cheap When I was a kid, I'd come here for their UBE or MANGO ICE CREAM. I'm not sure if they still sell those anymore. COMFORT CARBS: Get your fresh pan de sal and cheese rolls here!
google avatar

Ron E.

Yelp
The center of my Turon universe. Certainly the best wrapped and fried banana / jack fruit combo on the West coast. Thin, sweet, crispy and chock full of the essential vitamins and minerals you need to get you through the day. The best thing about 'em is that they don't wrap these things a bazillion million times so that all you get is a measly sliver of banana hidden in a one inch layer of spring roll wrapping. At 75 cents a piece, you'll find yourself making a u-turn just as your about to make it to your car and wonder if you've got enough change in your pocket for just one more fix. If you don't fancy the fried banana try your hand at any of the other baked goods they seem to have a never-ending stock of: pan de sal, pan de leche, ensymada, and butter-and-sugar covered things that make my teeth hurt just thinking about 'em. Try their product.
google avatar

Lahaina A.

Yelp
BEST PINOY CHICKEN EMPANADAS IN ALL OF AMERICA!!! AHHh... and cheap and delicious Turon. It's kind of hard to find, but look hard and don't get distracted by that nasty thing JOLLIBEE. Just keep your eye on Valerios and indulge in some of their amazing baked goods like Pan de Sal, hopia, or ensaymada (but the ensaymada is pretty commercial, I'd say its at the level of Goldilocks or Red Ribbon... but those places are popular and delicious for a reason!!) Yet, can't say it enough, their most homecooked and delicious item that they offer is their chicken empanadas... Buy them by the dozen!
google avatar

Cecillia C.

Yelp
I really love this bakery. So yummy when fresh. It's not a pretty store front, nothing fancy. But everything is delicious. I really like their breads and desserts. Makes me happy.

Annalyn M.

Yelp
My go-to place for authentic, good old fashioned Filipino desserts and I love their vegetable lumpia and turron. You have to come early or else everything will sell fast that's fresh on the counter.

Yelp
My family in Cerritos always give me kepeng from this bakery as pasalubong and loved every morsel of it. I finally got a chance to visit this bakery last month and made sure that U went first thing in the AM when pan de sal is freshly baked and warm. Line was about 5-6 people, but they took and process order as quickly as possible. Bonus: Hot taho in the morning too! I'll definitely be back!
