Very chill and comfy-feeling bar w/stage. I drove down from Dallas to see a few bands play, and the vibe was awesome. The door guy was patient with me as I paid the cover and was nice. The bartender was very nice as well. Food from Marinara Miracles was SO GOOD. There’s plenty of seating all over, upstairs and down. They’ve got pinball and arcade games in the main bar area, and pool and air-hockey upstairs. Overall, a really nice dive. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in Austin.

Google
We came here looking for some good food. The staff is very friendly too! This place has a rock vibe to it. The downstairs is where they have live music and a bar to order drinks. Upstairs is where you are able to order food. They have some games you have to pay to play. The large table for big parties does tip over a bit and a seat up against the table is falling off. I think they should really fix that for future customers.

Google
Popped in for food. Didn’t stay long. The guy at the bar had stepped away so went to next door for pizza. The music scene here is very good and the Italian upstairs serves great food.

Joshua Lenz

Google
Pinball machines are old but they work. The drinks are very competitively priced. Listen to live music on one side and relax and play pool on the other side.

Aimee Martinez

Google
Went to see my nephew play 2gigs there! I lost my keys, staff looked everywhere with me, lol! Great atmosphere, will be coming back when I’m in ATX again!

Jordan K.

Google
Great little down to earth spot for seeing music, and the door people / security are incredibly chill and nice

Daisy

Google
I went here this past Sunday to see a band I love. It's a really laid back chill atmosphere until the bands start. I had so much fun. It was worth the 3 hour drive to get there. The drinks were priced well and the Margaritas where delicious.

Google
Awesome vibes to this place. Showcasing all kinds of different genres of music. The staff has a very warm local neighborhood vibe rather than big-city cold vibes. The kitchen “Marina Miracles” offers hand-rolled pastas and weekly lasagna specials. This place really captures the good spirit of downtown Austin and offers a great time!!!!

Yelp
Hallo Valhalla! Holla! This is supposed to be a norse themed bar, but it's really just live music and booze. The bar is an Italian Pizza oven looking contraption. It's round and has a little roof on it. The bartenders sling out cold beers quickly and cheaply. There's a few different kinda areas to chill in with different vibes. Next door is a pizza joint if you get hungry. Be sure to check out the album artwork on the walls! I wonder if all those bands have played here? There's no bad seats in this bar. You can hear everything. My least favorite part of this bar is the upstairs area. It's hot. Heat rises. So does the smell, and it's kina ripe up there. But if you wanna sneak off and play some pool undisturbed, this is a good place to do it.

Yelp
Came here two nights in a row during SXSW to see different brands. I'd classify it as a dive bar with live music. Things I loved about this venue: - They have multiple water stations! Hydrate hydrate hydrate - Food, and seating, are available upstairs (window order). No vegan or GF options though. - Pool and air hockey tables - Amazing bartenders, super nice - Solid vibe Things I don't love: - It's warm, even with the A/C on -- dress appropriately - Bathrooms - Speakers are quite loud. We went and bought ear plugs after night #1. Was perfect for night #2

Yelp
Cool Red River music venue. Good prices on booze. Bands always sound spot on. Mixed crowd with different age groups depending on the bands playing.

Yelp
this has become a favorite spot of mine. reminds me of "old austin" while still evolving with the times. Plenty of live GOOD music in a unique space that allows you to enjoy the music or kick back in a more secluded section. There's also an air hockey table, billiards, & darts for those looking for some more action. The staff is charming & hospitable & eager to make you feel comfortable. A bonus too is the fully functioning kitchen upstairs which has an array of dishes to pick from. I had the alfredo pasta which was priced well and the first time I ever had it I went back for seconds!!! Truly an Austin gem.

Yelp
Came here to see live music and had a great time. What an awesome dive bar! Small stage for bands, really cheap but well made drinks, attentive bar staff, and an upstairs loft with pool, foosball, air hockey, and an incredible pasta join that was open til midnight! Like seriously the ricotta gnocchi with homemade marinara was off the charts good and not just as drunchies. Pro tip: bring quarters for the games

Yelp
When you absolutely, positively need cheap beer, a battered pool table, live music, and a killer jukebox in your life? Accept no substitutes. Valhalla sits in the Red River District, offering up a laid back vibe and a handful of brews on tap. Sit and stay for a show or just groove to some vintage Iron Maiden and idle the through the night

Yelp
This bar is fantastic. Not your young bar hoping current music place but good old time music. I little run down but gives it the classic bar vibe. The bartender was very nice and made some good drinks. The only downside is they are somewhat limited on drinks so that's why 4 stars. Really wanted an old fashioned but he did not have everything needed. That being said while I am here I will be back.
google avatar

Jake L.

Yelp
People that work there are nice, but they double charged me for a tab that was originally 70 dollars.
google avatar

Yelp
Austin is a dying breed of DIVE BARS. Lot of cities they are gentrified or removed. This is another good one, cool circular bar, grumpy bartender. Good for pool!
google avatar

Bobby H.

Yelp
Solid dive. What do you want a novel? Good drinks. Solid staff. No shitty music. That's all you need to know. Spend your money here.

Yelp
Awesome vibes best place for some good wings and a game or two. Perfect place for a date or just to make friends.

Yelp
This review is the the kitchen. We came in last night and ordered off the menu- a Reuben ($11) with a side of fries ($2.50). I kid you not we received a half order of both. We got half of a sandwich with maybe 10 fries on the side. When we asked what was up with the entire other half of the sandwich, we heard that the cook just shoved all of the meat into one half the sandwich to make it bigger, because the sandwich would be too thin otherwise... so there was no other half of the sandwich! Ummmmmmm... not even sure how we were to respond. To boot, the kitchen guys are rude as hell. $13.50 for literally a HALF ORDER of food at a bar. I am still trying to figure out what happened.

Yelp
This place is a diamond in the (very) rough. Away from the maddening crowds, it's dark, filled with adult games (shuffleboard, pool, pinball, air hockey) and has killer drink deals. On the very quiet Tuesday night we visited, the super chill, friendly barkeep kept us entertained, but was never intrusive. I would come back here, anytime I'm in this town.

Yelp
There are two nights out that I have downtown. One, where I hear about a trendy new club or restaurant or something like that, the gang goes, it's fun. Two, where all that goes to shit. We shrug. And head over to Valhalla. Beer selection is short and sweet. A bit of something for everyone. (Well, everyone who isn't a snob.) Atmosphere is typical Red River.

Seymour B.

Yelp
One of my favorite bars in Austin. It almost seems mystical how there is never more or less than 5 other people in the bar, besides myself and companions. The first 3 times I went there I accidentally used the women's restroom, thinking it was the men's room. That's how chill this bar is. Last November we went before a Deer Tick concert at Mohawk, and the only bartender was outside smoking a cigarette. He quickly snuffed it out and followed us inside, in order to serve us drinks. Our friends from New Jersey loved it so much we went back after the show. Upstairs there is air hockey and fooseball and an ancient television with the remote sitting underneath, overtly inviting you to surf to the channel of your choosing. This bar is the go-to spot for pre-gaming concerts on Red River.

Yelp
I Turkish prince from Ottoman Empire. Valhalla very good bar. I drink whole menu except rum'n'coke; very reasonable price. Shelby best bartender; her dowry at least 10 goats. Music very diverse; except when Shelby play Beck music. Then, her dowry only 8 goats. Beck overrated.

Yelp
This place is very open. Great drinks. Staff is courteous and helpful. Great fried pickles. I would recommend it.

Yelp
Yum. Great music. Great food, despite how busy they were. Nice bartenders who weren't too busy to help us, great attitude. Super happy.

Yelp
Complete jerks. Stopped by the place to grab a quick beer, never got inside. No wonder it was empty in there. I show id and walk in. one of the ladies I was with was stopped because she had a water container. "Can we empty it and bring it in?" "No open containers" ?? what? So you don't allow anyone to have a water bottle with them, ever. "Is it cool if they wait outside while I use the restroom?" "No, this isn't your outhouse" WTF? Our intention was to come into your establishment and spend our money on your probably shyte beer selection, and you insult me like this? "So that's what kind of place this is" I was so suprised, that's all I could think to say. The bouncer then said something about that's how he's going to be if I'm a jerk, which I really don't understand. So I put my middle finger in his face and walked away. Not so mature, but I was really thrown off by his antagonistic attitude.

Yelp
In all of the SX chaos on 6th St. I'm so glad to have found Red River. Chaotic yes, but this madhouse crowd makes for good energy and Valhalla is a sanctuary from it all. The place drew my partner's attention because of all of the vinyl album covers that cover the walls in the front/smoking room. I quickly flashed my ID and walked in to take a look. We made our way into the next room and those walls were covered, too! This place is large and you'll find another bar in the back room, which is also covered in album covers. I should mention that there's plenty of seating for your relaxation, old school arcade games for nostalgia, and good beers and cocktails to contribute to good conversations with cool strangers and other folks!

Yelp
This is my new favorite place. Reminds me of Casino waaaay back in the day. Jackalope has gotten really "6th Street-y", so we've been looking for a similar vibe but with less of that and Valhalla fits. Excellent beer selection, super cool staff (unless, you know, you're a total douche), and stuff to do, i.e. pinball, pool, video games. Thurs = $2 beer, Weds = vinyl night (rekkids, not clothing). Jukebox never played a single stinker the whole time. Walls are lined with classic albums, some of which get played on Weds. Anyhoo, a good litmus test for you would be to read rick r.'s review. If you think he sounds like a swell guy who got a raw deal, it's probably not the place for you. Try 6th Street or J. Black's. If, however, you imagined yourself at the bar watching this scene play out as you chuckle and then high-five the door guy after rick and his entourage left, then you and I can probably be friends and hang out at Valhalla. RIYL: Casino el Camino circa 1998, Jackalope, Scoot Inn but with less hipsters, Places that aren't afraid to treat the douchoisie with the scorn and sarcasm they deserve.

Yelp
So, this Red River staple (formerly Room 710) has undergone a drastic character change. The space still looks the same (best looking bar in on Red River), but there is no more live music being played here. Instead it has become a lounge with a ton of different games (pinball, air hockey, foosball, pool, darts, shuffleboard). From what I understand, one of the former 710 bartenders is part-owner of the new bar. The drinks are a lot cheaper than what they were at 710, and the bartenders are just as great. I have been here twice now and had a great time, but am a little worried because it has never had many people in it. However if you're looking for some room to play pool (or the other myriad of games) without bumping into people (see every other bar downtown), this is your place. Stop at Hoboken grab a slice and head on over. I really hope this place sticks around for a while.

Yelp
Keeping this short. I judge a bar by the following 3 criteria: 1: How fast you can get a drink (because sometimes you just gotta get drunk) 2: Music/Ambiance (jukebox/internet juke box/dj - theme/comfortability) 3: The Clientele (douchey/sketchy/sociable) Therefore, Valhalla gets a 4 star........now to how the sausage was made! Valhalla is probably as chill, comfy, and unpretentious you can get in the general area of Red River/near 6th. Front: Patio for smokers with booths and some small tables with movable chairs - you can watch the foot traffic from Stubb's/Mohawk Shows going to downtown or just space out to the noise of downtown Austin. Inside: Two sided bar, which is optimal for getting a drink. They pretty much have any beer/alcohol the typical person would drink (no champagne or ciroc....i don't think....didn't try to order any.....ever) Bartending staff are attentive. Some more booths for sitting, pinball machines, pool tables, retro arcade games, snack machines, shuffle board, and upstairs there is skeeball and foosball. Restrooms are large and I would probably vote this the best bar to go to if you have gotta take a good shit while out drinking. The jukebox is old school style and has some really good albums to drink/party with. I'm not a fan of the internet jukeboxes because eventually some idiot will decide to play some absolute horseshit that will annoy the fuck out of everyone you are with, to the point where a mass suicide is a viable option. Ambiance/Clientele - There's quite a mix of people that come in and out - from the very rare frat type, to the occasional Austin tourist, mostly alternative types roam the floors...not many hipsters venture out of the east side and into this place. If you are bringing a date here with the intention to have a hardcore hookup, I wouldn't come here, but if you want to bring a date here to have a conversation, it may be more suitable. It doesn't get obnoxiously loud like most other bars may. If you are having a late night, there's Hoboken Pie next door to grab a greasy slice to soak up your booze corroded belly. The action from all the drunks at Hoboken Pie around closing time should be the set for the next brain rotting reality tv show.

Yelp
Bottom line, BEST bar in the RR district. Great selection of beer on tap. Amazing staff minus the angry, rude asshat Calvin that works the door. He just hates life bc he's a loser that probably has a small package. Can't blame him! There's air hockey, pool, shuffleboard, skee ball, etc. it's awesome. Great bathrooms to take a dump or bump.
google avatar

Lesley W.

Yelp
I like this place. I especially like it if I go to Stubbs, or another of the many concert venues on Red River - I'm hot, sweaty, not lookin my best - and I just want a Lone Star and a chilled atmosphere. It's also cheap, has nice bartenders that will actually make suggestions and not look at you like you are a child when you can't decide immediately. I had my first "real" white russian here because they actually have the ingredients unlike most bars! yay!!!!!!!
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
Very cool spot but the bartender was super rude and unfriendly. She seems to interact with some regulars decently but she's awful to anyone else that walks in that she doesn't know already.
google avatar

Steven N.

Yelp
II can't say much about this place aside from them having Pinball and some video games. This would be the only reason for me to step inside this establishment. They have some kind of weirdo "patio" in front where it appears people can (and do) smoke (a lot) - even tho it's not even close to being the 15-feet from an entrance that's required by law. Bouncer guy who checked my ID was smoking. So if you don't mind the gauntlet of smokers to get inside, this place might be fine for you. Not so much for me. Ok - so they have Pinball - which is why I visited the place (so I can add them to my Pinball list). Pinball at this location: Demolition Man (Williams 1994) http://ipdb.org/machine.cgi?id=662 Junkyard (Williams 1996) http://ipdb.org/machine.cgi?id=4014 This Junkyard seems to be in pretty good condition. The bar is dark so it's hard to see the ball in play sometimes.

Lauren F.

Yelp
I never really got down with 710, just a little too hard for me. But i was sad to see it go. I am now happy again because this has taken its place. Cheap booze, good service, pool, shuffle board, big bathrooms, nice crowd.
google avatar

Pati M.

Yelp
Almost every time we go downtown we come have drink here. The atmosphere is super chill and it has its days when they're busy. For the most part you can get a drink really quickly. The staff is really attentive and awesome. I always recommend this bar to friends :)
google avatar

Sara G.

Yelp
Super cheap! Awesome bartenders! Awesome, awesome, awesome bartenders! Pool, foosball, pinball and arcade games Ample seating! Lots of "quiet" spots-- by that I mean you can usually find a corner completely separated from the other customers if you just want to chill with your friends.
google avatar

Sean W.

Yelp
Room 710 is gone. Get over it. I'm telling that to myself as well. It took me a while to get used to this not being a music venue anymore. I loved Room 710, it was "home" for a lot of us. I like that it is becoming that again. The staff there is awesome, all of them. The jukebox is good and on Wednesday night you can pick an album off the wall to be played on the house record player. Pretty cool!
google avatar

Sean H.

Yelp
Been waiting for their kitchen to open for nearly two years. It was worth the wait. I just had the best pastrami sandwich of my life! I was also surprised to learn that they cure and smoke their own meats. True deli style. Also one of the only places in Austin where you can get Cornbeef Hash.
google avatar

Albie T.

Yelp
I love this place. Awesome drink prices and atmosphere. The staff is top notch. They also happen to have my favorite public restroom to go number two in. I realize to many this may seem inconsequential, but as someone who works downtown, IT MATTERS. I drink there several times a week and I have to say that this establishment and the people that work there are a solid gold find. They have really awesome food too. I'd recommend the Ruben and the home made fried pickles.

Chocolate T.

Yelp
Yelp is stupid. Bar is badass! Food is awesome. Gravy is so good my wife brings it home for marital relations.

Davud C.

Yelp
please lord, or whatever spirits rule the world, keep this bar afloat. i havent eaten here for a while so i cant address the food but the drinks are well priced, the people are legit, and THIS is the Austin everyone moved here for and then promptly lost their way into the shiny trendy bars on 6th street. ever since the 710 days this bar has been the last remaining bastion of the Austin that was. not the Other Austin that was, with Jerry J. and Guy F. and Willie... but the punks, the rockers, the metalheads, the pool players, and dart players, the rowdys, the drunks, the dancers and the jukebox aficionados. when you pass the (now painfully inaccurate) Live Music Capitol of the World!! signs at the airport, think of this bar as one of the early ones that made Austin what it was in the 90's. dont support the stupid tourist motto... support actual live music venues. long live Valhalla.
google avatar

Terry T.

Yelp
I loved 710 but much more prefer to masturbate in the bathrooms now than then. Booo ya.
google avatar

Emma J.

Yelp
Cool laid back bar. Comfy places to sit. Lots of classic rock. Pretty sure I saw a couple having sex in one of the booths but nobody cared. That's what I call laid back.
google avatar

Neal M.

Yelp
Oh, the old Room 710. I saw friends bands play here years ago and thought it was such a great sh*thole with great character. Now it's Valhalla and i'm pretty sure it's the same ownership/employee(s). They have good beer on draft and a nice selection of cans/bottles and the prices are cheap to boot. They have all the games adults like while having drinks. Including shuffleboard that's free! I just learned how to play and i'm beyond intrigued. This place is so chill and quiet and just comfy.
google avatar

FELECIA C.

Yelp
This is a great place to hang out. Cheap beer, full bar, many games, and a jukebox....I love the jukebox. The staff is nice and the place has great energy about it, once you are inside you dont want to leave...or at least I don't. Check it out when you are downtown. Its a great place to wind down after work or a happy hour with friends and when you are ready for a great change of pace or music...walk across the street to Elysium!!
google avatar

Megan L.

Yelp
The drinks were reasonably priced. It was cool inside, temperature wise. There was actually a place for our group to all sit together. They have a "value menu" with a shot and a beer. That's really all you need in a bar. Well, that and TP in the stall in the ladies room, and they had that as well.
google avatar

Joni A.

Yelp
This place is OK. I got overcharged for a bottle of Miller Light ($4.75 - really?), but other than that it was fine, albeit a little run down. One definite plus was the variety of games/activities - everything from pool to foosball to arcade games. Probably won't be back, but if you like dives, I'd recommend checking it out at least once.
google avatar

Kristen J.

Yelp
Great place to go if you're looking to get away from 6th st.
google avatar

Kris B.

Yelp
Awesome dive bar. Pool tables, shuffleboard, no hipsters, 350 Lone Star and a great jukebox. Bartenders are attentive and it's easy to get a beer or drink. Good place to escape the idiots while dntwn.
google avatar

Ceara C.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I come here about once a week or so. The guy who works there is very cool, unlike a lot of bars where the staff get it in their mind to be assholes (for some reason). The drinks and good and cheap. I like $2 pint night on Thursday. They have a very good selection instead of just PBR, Miller, etc. Would recommend, and have.

A S.

Yelp
The kitchen is a hidden gem. I wouldn't expect to find a window serving awesome deli food upstairs at a Red River bar, but there it is. It works out for a great place to put in a food order and have a drink while it is put together.
google avatar

Goldie S.

Yelp
Went there for a surprise birthday party. The bar has shuffleboard, darts, foozeball, air hockey, skeeball, and a pool table. Cool classic rock album decorations on the walls. Only complaint is that the rain dripped through the ceiling on me upstairs. Also, I wouldn't sit near the bulky TV upstairs either as it appeared to not be fully strapped down. If i'm ever in the downtown area, I may go back for the fair prices!

Matt E.

Yelp
I'm picky about the bars I frequent downtown, and I can proudly call Valhalla one of my favorites. Solid on tap beer selection, chill and often friendly bar staff and just an overall laid back vibe with classic arcade games and vinyl mounted on the wall. With both jukeboxes and pool readily available it's a damn good spot to kick back in downtown Austin

Bridget M.

Yelp
This place is awesome!!! The drinks are affordable, the atmosphere is unpretencious, the bartenders are cool, the bathrooms are clean! They have shuffleboard, pool tables, AIR HOCKEY!!!!, foosball, flat screen tvs. Awesme place! DO IT!!!

Cristi F.

Yelp
I'm glad this new bar is starting to get some attention! I have been there a few times already and have had lots of fun. The place looks really good now that it's been cleaned up and painted. There are lots of games (even shuffleboard!!) and the drink prices are really reasonable. Also, the bartenders are really friendly and pour a good drink. I highly recommend this place for those looking for a chill lounge to hang out and enjoy your friends.
