Tom Colicchio’s Grub Street Diet

"I tasted some homemade stracciatella in Vallata to check on it — it’s like mozzarella, chewy when it’s first made and a little salty before it mellows out — and I grabbed a bit; I also had a piece of the fresh focaccia we make here at the restaurant, which varies by season (tomato or potato in summer; in fall it’s olive oil, herbs and sea salt with a great airy texture) and is always easy to grab and eat." - Ben Widdicombe

I saw an IG post of Tom C making a sandwich at the grand opening of Vallata yesterday and had to try it. The Ossessione was Mortadella, Stracciatella, Pistachio pesto, black garlic aioli and arugula on a focaccia bun. So good. Every ingredient worked well together with the bun. I also had a few bites of my wife’s 8 1/2 porchetta sandwich. Also very tasty. Service was very attentive and friendly. Maybe a little inexperienced since it was an opening. The “dessert “ of the meal was getting to meet Tom, Kristen and Gail along with season 21 winner Danny Garcia.

Vallata’s new lunch menu is a must-try! They offer an impressive selection of Italian sandwiches, including delicious vegetarian options. Each bite was packed with flavor, and the quality of ingredients really stood out. While I didn’t try any appetizers this time, I’m already looking forward to my next visit to explore more of the menu. Service was fast and efficient without sacrificing quality, making it a great spot for a quick yet satisfying meal. I also noticed several takeout orders being handled smoothly, so it’s a fantastic option for a grab-and-go lunch or office delivery. Whether you’re dining in or taking it to go, Vallata is a solid addition to the lunch scene!

Google
Vallata is now serving sandwiches during the day! After seeing Tom’s reel (making an Ossessione Sammie. We had to check it out, Mortadella with a pistachio crunch, arugula and black garlic aioli on house made Foccacia, DELISH and the 8-1/2, a Porchetta on Ciabatta with a Mostarda made with candied oranges pieces & a garlic confit, so good. If you are looking for a huge sub, this ain’t it. What you will get are well balanced, creative, flavorful Sammies on fantastic bread! Staff is a little green but very friendly. Def going back! Coincidentally the Top chef crew was there for lunch, I was starstruck! They were gracious enough to chat and take a photo with us.

Google
Competent Italian food, but it didn't wow me at all. The raisins in the pasta didn't work for me, and the chickpeas in the salad were hard. The seafood in that same salad didn't have much flavor. At this price point I expected much more.

Google
I had the Obsessione sandwich with the mortadella, straciatella, black garlic, and pistachio spread. The focaccia was soooo good and the flavors worked so well together.

Google
Very nice Italian pasta restaurant (by Tom Coliccio from Food Network's Top Chef) with a relaxing & inviting setting in the flatiron district. We tried two appetizers and three pasta selections (there's only a few vegetarian options so we replaced sausage for anchovies in one dish), and all were good. Would not recommend the wine & pasta special as the house wines weren't up to the quality of the pasta. Service was very good.

Saturday brunch was so good, I had to come back on Sunday! Their brunch deal (2 plates & 2 drinks) is very affordable. The eggs baked in tomato sauce and the lemon ricotta pancakes are to die for!

We reserved a table for three of us and did not inform them that one of us was vegan. Our server, Chris, try to make things vegan, but he found out all the pasts were home made and included eggs. He offered a chicpea dish with out octopus as an alternative. Later he came back to tell us, they found a pasta with out eggs and the chef made a delicious simple dish. Thank you Chris for excellent service.

Yelp
Vallata is a very classy, but not at all stuffy, place to have a special dinner. It provides an intimate space with thoughtful service and outstanding food, and I wouldn't hesitate to return. We had a dinner reservation for the last night of Restaurant Week 2024. I usually hesitate to do Restaurant Week having had some sub-par experiences in the past - not so at Vallata. It felt like any other night would, just with the chance to eat more than we probably would have a la carte. The star of the evening was the arancini starter. While I've had arancini many times at other places, these were true masterpieces that were far beyond any other version I've ever had. Each had the most delicate, crispy shell encasing perfectly executed risotto and accompanied by a wonderfully spicy tomato sauce and fried parsley. I would go back just for these. As a note, herbs made many appearances throughout our dishes, which was a very refreshing, nice touch. Other highlights were our entrees, mussels for him and lumache with bolognese and rosemary for me. Both were excellent, and while my lumache risked being too simple or ordinary or a choice, it was truly a delight. We both chose the same dessert of custard, peaches, and a variety of accompaniments for flavor and texture, which was an outstanding finish to a wonderful meal. While I would have liked for the sake of the Yelp review to have pictures to post, it just didn't seem right to break the classy ambiance with my phone camera. Service was also outstanding. Besides the excellent service provided by the main person for our table, the mixologist delivered our cocktails himself, as did the pastry chef with our desserts. I always find that kind of teamwork adds an extra level of class and enjoyment, and I really appreciated it. Sitting close to the open kitchen added to the enjoyment even more. All in all, this was a true 5-star experience.

Yelp
Happy to say we really enjoyed our dinner here. We had a reservation for restaurant week at the bar. When we arrived, the host gave us a bar or table option - we stuck to the bar... glad we did! Bartender was great. No fuss, really cool, but of character, involved in our night but just the perfect amount. Good was delicious!!! So many options on the restaurant week menu, almost feels as if they offered the whole menu? Loved everything we got. Drinks were great too - if you like a Negroni, try the barrel aged Negroni on the menu. We'll be back - great little spot.

Yelp
I came here for NYC Restaurant Week 2024 dinner, and it later turned into a work reunion of former colleagues. It was great catching up, and the ambiance is very welcoming. There was a slight hiccup when checking in because, as I was enjoying my Occhi Vivaci spritz, I got two missed calls from the restaurant asking if I was I coming, lol. After that was resolved, the service from the staff was great, accommodating and knowledgeable. We all ordered from the restaurant week menu, and everything tasted awesome. They also had a wine special for $35 a bottle, and the red wine was so good. We started out with the cauliflower and olive focaccia. The focaccia was definitely fresh and so good, especially paired with the drinks ordered. For appetizers, we ordered the brussel sprouts with mint, lemon, and pecorino. The dish was refreshing as combined flavors and crunchy texture of the Brussel sprouts were perfectly balanced. The chickpea salad and soup (not pictured) were also ordered, and they enjoyed both items. For the main entrées, we ordered the skirt steak, cod, lamb, and personally skate. Everyone enjoyed their dishes paired with their red wine. Personally, my dish was small but very buttery and flavorful. For dessert, we ordered the cannoli bombolone and ricotta cheesecake. We all devoured our dessert, which masked the amount of red wine consumption. I will definitely return to this spot, especially for their pasta and wine special.

Yelp
Perfect food, service, and ambience. 10/10. Our server was so kind and knowledgeable. The food was flavorful and perfectly cooked. Wine matched to a T.

Yelp
Had a wonderful experience for an impromptu weeknight dinner. Comfortable casual atmosphere with delicious food and great service. The dishes we tried satisfied all types of cravings and the pasta dishes were just perfect.

Yelp
Another Tom Colicchio establishment and it did not disappointment. We came here with kids for weekend brunch, it's $45 for two cocktails and two courses, an amazing deal on the city right now when anywhere reputable cocktail would start at $20. They were able to make some delicious kids pastas, one in pomodoro sauce, one in butter sauce. Our kids devoured their pastas, and I personally thought it was yummy enough to be adult pasta. Our two entree pasta dishes were very well cooked, flavor was great, but I personally wish it were a little more al dente. Service was attentive and warm. Decor is beautiful. Bathroom is spacious and clean. This is a slam dunk for lunch.

Yelp
02/28/23: This spot has been in my collection and my Seated List. Cute and cozy Italian restaurant. Greeted warmly and seated immediately. Plenty of seating available however within about 15 mins it started to be busy. Would recommend reservations. Our server Stephani was amazing. She was extremely friendly and highly knowledgeable about the menu and gave great recommendations. Drinks: I had a cosmo very yummy and strong. My friend had a Spaghetti Western.. very strong and spirit forward. Appetizers: Chickpea Salad with squid, shrimp and octopus not a fan of chickpeas but Stephani made it sound so inviting. Indeed it was, fresh seafood and it had a kick to it. Would have preferred it on mixed greens. Arancini, basically fried rice balls with a spicy to tomato sauce. Also very yummy. Mains: Malfadine with short ribs: yummy, good portion. Unfortunately it was very salty I tried to get through because it was so good. Couldn't do it I had them redo and it great. My friend had the steak..it was a bit on the rare side we sent it back and it came back how she liked it. One negative just having a steak with no sides and when asked for sides it was an additional cost. Dessert We shared a scoop of homemade passionfruit gelato.. deliciousness. All in all enjoyable dinner.

Yelp
Tom Colicchio's first Italian restaurant right by Union Square is a great spot. With so much great Italian cuisine in NYC, it's hard to know what's really worth it or not. Vallata is great whether you're a party of 2 or 8! The food is delicious, the staff is very friendly, and the general ambiance/decor is quite lovely. Not stuffy/fancy, but definitely nice!

Yelp
I am a huge Tom Colicchio and Top Chef fan. I've also been craving cacio e pepe, so it seemed like a perfect opportunity to try Vallata on a recent getaway to NYC. The Mr. and I had a reservation and even though we arrived early, we were graciously seated by the hostess. Since it was before 6:00 p.m. we were able to take advantage of the pasta + house wine special for $29.00. We both chose the Bucatini Cacio e Pepe for our pasta choice, he had the red and I the white wine, and a shared order of the Veal and Ricotta Meatballs with tomato and grilled bread. There really is nothing simpler than cacio e pepe and in this case the sauce to pasta to pepper ratio, was perfect. This was exactly what I wanted and my craving was satisfied. There were three delicious meatballs that were as big as the palm of my hand. I was trying to save room for dessert so wasn't quite able to finish one. My loss equaled the Mr's gain, and he happily finished the other two + the rest of mine. The grilled bread was the perfect accompaniment to the tomato sauce at the bottom of the serving plate. Dessert was the ricotta cheesecake with candied orange and it was creamy, light and flavorful. We appreciated the great service, open kitchen, cozy ambiance, and delicious food. If we lived in NYC we'd definitely be regulars.

Yelp
Came to try during lunch hour since now they open Wed to Fri for lunch. It was a bit slow since there was only one waiter servicing. Simple and cozy. :::Appetizer: Salad with Anchovy - a bit heavier on dressing but till tasty. Arancini - yum White Bean Soup - quite straightforward flavor, I enjoyed it but would be more fun with some other ingredients. :::Entree: Campanelle Pasta with Brussel Sprouts and Cranberry Beans - pretty good Ricotta Cavatelli with Short Rib - pretty good Hanger Steak Rare - a bit more cooked then rare but exactly what I'm looking for. A basic hanger Steak cut though. Overall pleasant lunch.

Yelp
My wife and I are big fans of Top Chef so we were really looking forward to dining at Tom Colicchio's Italian restaurant in Gramercy. We dined here with my daughter for Brunch on a Saturday just before Christmas and had a great experience! The restaurant is small and beautifully decorated. The service was excellent...attentive, and we weren't rushed at all. From our drinks to kick the meal off (the Bloody V was great), to the focaccia appetizer, to the entrees, all 3 of us loved the experience. Our entrée's included Lumache Bolognese, Fried Egg, Pancetta and Fontina on Ciabatta, and Lemon Ricotta Pancakes. I had the lumache and thought it was fantastic, the bolognese was so good! I also had a taste of my wife's pancakes and thought they had a fantastic lemon flavor. If you're in the area, looking for a great meal, give Valatta a try! We didn't meet him, but our server said Tom is frequently there, so maybe you'll meet him!

Yelp
This was the most wonderful meal and experience dining that I have had in a long time. The food was outrageously good. I feel like I have to be a better person this week to deserve such tasty treats. I had the whipped ricotta appetizer and the muscles - but I tasted every else (as one does) and the meatballs were moist and flavorful, the arancini melts in your mouth and don't start me on the gelato. it was amazing! The waiter, hostess and bartender were so welcoming and added to the meal with their suggestions and accommodations (thank you for just refilling my wine glass without me having to ask...it's like you knew me when I walked in the door) What a treat! I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
I went here on a thursday night during restaurant week. First of all, I really like the casual setting with the open kitchen but it makes it a little confusing when you look at the price point. The bruschetta with marinated tomatoes was my favorite thing. YAY TOMATO SEASON AND CREAMY WHIPPED RICOTTA. The cacio e pepe was delicious and simple but a little to rich and fatty for my personal liking. The bread was a little bit too crunchy (aka burnt). The service was great but kind of weird. One of the bartenders kept saying happy birthday and they even wrote it on the dessert but it wasn't our birthday. I guess I was expecting a little more from a Tom Collichio restaurant. Nothing was terrible but you can find equally as good Italian food for a lower price point in NYC. I am still glad I tried it just wished there was a little more oomph. All i know is I NEED to learn how to make whipped ricotta.

Yelp
Service was excellent but the food was inconsistent, surprisingly. Rose wine from Sardinia was a real find, as was the panzanella - both delicious. Arancini were good, the eggplant focaccia was tasty, although the eggplant was applied with a very light hand and did not affect the flavor really. The shocker was that none of the pasta was al dente, and the risotto was nearly inedible with a gruel-like consistency and no flavor. I couldn't figure out what it reminded me of and the next day I realized - it was like it was made with Minute Rice. The paccheri with fennel sausage, leeks and rabe was the best dish of the table, as was the spaghetti with lemon and basil. Dessert was a chocolate caramel pannacotta and that was excellent. Server and manager (I think) apologized for the risotto, offered to replace it - but not sure why we would try it again given what was sent out to start with. It was removed from the bill, which we appreciated. But the meal was not at the level we expected from a restaurant in the Craft group.

Yelp
Best Cacio E Pepe so far in town. Food was really good and drinks also made their points. I liked that was easy to get a reservation during the same day. Price: $50 (tip included)

Yelp
1. Incredibly friendly staff 2. Possibly the best meatballs I've ever had 3. Huge bowl of homemade kids pasta for only 12 bucks.

Yelp
****Tables are close together, Small menu/portions, Good service*** I didn't find this restaurant very memorable with their menu selections. Food is decently priced but the portions are fairly small. When the restaurant was full it was fairly loud and I had an issue with how close the tables all were. Our waiter was really nice and checked on us frequently which I appreciated.

Yelp
This place is totally a wast of time. 1/10 overall Logistics 0/10 We had a 7:30pm reservation and wasn't seated till 8:30pm. The entry way is extremely small. When the restaurant is overly booked, the entry way is packed with angry and hungry customers. It was at least 15 customers who were in the same situation as us. They will keep telling you it will be only 20 more minutes. Eventually at 8:30pm we were seated at the bar, now even a table. Food 1/10 the pasta is very small portion with interesting fusion. My pasta might have some fruits (maybe blue berries). Portion is way too small. Bar staff 10/10 Christian at bar was amazing. He's the only highlight of this restaurant. He knew that all of his customers who got sent to him were hungry and angry and was able to calm and cheer up all of us. Oval - avoid it at all cost. Usually "fancy" celebrity restaurant, always a let-down.

Yelp
IG: @mrtravelfoodie I was told that this was a restaurant opened by the great @tomcolicchio from @topchefm6. When my friend came to town, we found a reservation and quickly came to check it out. From the outside, I didn't think too much of the place. It seemed pretty, had great design and looked like many other restaurants of this style. However, once I entered inside, I loved the art on the wall, the intimate dining space and the open kitchen in the back! By now, you know I'm a sucker when it comes to open kitchens. What we ordered: - Bucatini Cacio E Pepe - Paccheri w/ Guanciale, Leeks, and Rapini - Lumache w/ Bolognese and Thyme Let's talk about the Cacio E Pepe... It might look so simple, but my friend said this was the best Cacio e Pepe he's ever had. The texture of the noodles, the flavor of the sauce, the balance of spice, noodle, sauce, savory, and all the elements that come to create this dish made it amazing. I didn't think I would actually enjoy that dish but it was incredibly delicious for such a "simple" dish. Next, the Paccheri was like an explosion of flavors. I don't know how to describe all of it other than I want more. Every bite was just flavor packed, and the ingredients balanced so well to create a very complete pasta dish. Finally, I got the Lumache and this hit me hard when I took that first bite. Initial reaction was am I going to like this? Shortly after, I went into this dish is freaking amazing! The pasta was very Al dents and chewy, so not what I expected, but the bolognese and thyme were so good! This dish is definitely for the meat lover as it had meat flavor with every single bite and after I finished that last bit of pasta, I was left wanting more. Overall, I was incredibly surprised at how well these dishes were crafted. The flavor profile hit every mark that I could ask for in a great pasta dish and the service was also amazing. Highly recommend adding this to your list! Rating: 8.9

Yelp
So sub par. There's so many Italian restaurants I wouldn't come here. They have a good deal of pasta with a glass of wine for $29, which is the one plus. Unfortunately the wine tastes awful (I got the white). I'm no wine snob, but I really didn't like it. The portions are normal for Italian restaurants. I got the cacio e pepe, and it wasn't super flavorful. Pretty bland. The service also was not great... it felt very chaotic inside with lots of people running around yet hard to get our waiter's attention.

Yelp
I usually avoid celebrity chef restaurants at all costs but i was lured in on a random Monday night by their summer restaurant week menu. I had the marinated tuna filet as an appetizer, the paccheri with broccoli Rabe and sausage as an entree, and a delicious, light-as-air ricotta cheesecake for dessert. The verdict? I enjoyed every bite! This small, intimate restaurant is romantic and cozy. It also has some of THE ABSOLUTE BEST homemade pasta I've ever had. Tender yet still al dente, the tiniest bit chewy, and slippery and silky, not the least gummy. I have raved about this place to everyone I know. I hope it becomes a Manhattan mainstay for many years to come.

Mimi M.

Yelp
Outstanding menu!!! Every dish was better than the next. The grilled octopus with chick peas was cooked to perfection! Cauliflower and olive focaccia was a great way to begin our meal. Deliciously seasoned with just the right "crunch." One can tell that fresh pasta was in both the ricotta cavatelli and spaghetti..."high five" to the pasta chef!!!! My strip steak was cooked just right....so tender and juicy! Although this is an open kitchen, we were amazed at how quiet the meal prep was. You can see that the chef ( guy with the beard) had complete control of the kitchen. From our table, things moved seamlessly. Service was terrific. The entire dining experience was worth it.

Yelp
I went to Vallata for a private even and the food was AMAZING .The service was good to I was offered many type of foods and the lighting wasn't to bright ,it was warm and I liked it

Yelp
Restaurant week deliciousness! Amazing service! Sat at the bar and Christian was attentive, funny and let us enjoy our meal without feeling rushed. The arancini were amazing(just didn't get a pic) all the apps, entrees and desserts were also to die for. All the staff were also fun! Loved it and will definitely be back!

Yelp
This place is good, not great. And, with so many excellent Italian restaurants in NYC, it might not be my first choice in the future. We had the white bean soup, which was pretty good, and the lobster pasta and pasta with Brussels sprouts. Mine (the latter) was something I could've made at home for half the price that would've tasted about the same. Good service though!

Yelp
As longtime fans of Craft and Tom Colicchio, we were excited to try Vallata. Colicchio's first Italian restaurant started as a pop-up, but thankfully it is now a permanent restaurant. The menu is not huge, which is good because otherwise making selections would be even harder than it is. The food is simply delicious. The focaccia may be the best we have ever eaten. Do not skip it. The service is amazing. The cocktails are inventive as well. As for dessert, I have one word for you . . . BOMBOLONE. Eat, drink and be merry at Vallata. Thank you Chef Colicchio!

Yelp
I brought my parents during restaurant week. The food and service were excellent. Would highly recommend.

Yelp
Vallata has always been a solid choice with terrific food. Tonight was a mixed bag. It did not start well. We got to our table, got menus and water. We hadn't been there more than 3 minutes when a server came over, Introduced herself and said " I want to remind you this is an Italian restaurant. Now, what do you want to drink?" We hadn't decided yet so we asked , very politely, if we could have a few minutes. She disappeared and never came back. A server we knew from Craft came over after about five more minutes and took care of us. He was golden. The good: the ramp focaccia, the chickpea salad and the fava salad. More than good, great ( although the menu needs to be clearer about the focaccia. We thought there were four different types. No, it's one type with three additions on the side available. You could wind up spending 11 bucks for two squares of the stuff). Then , the bad and the truly awful. The bad: spaghetti with ramps had so much acid in it that it was inedible. The risotto? Oh dear: Chef ColiccIho excoriates Top Chef contestants for cooking bad risotto. He needs to get home. We got served " cream of rice' with so much tarragon ( whose idea was that)? it was inedible. I'm serious when I write that the risotto might have been the worst dish I've ever had in a restaurant. Now, our server saw our unfinished plates and asked. He WAS very concerned. We didn't want an issue so we told him we weren't very hungry. Then I did tell him the risotto was a disaster. He tried to fix it. He told us his manager told him to serve more wine, and to take the risotto off the bill. Good recovery, but where WAS the manager, and why did this happen anyway? A real shame. we love Vallata. Do better!

Yelp
My fiancé and I came here because we were huge Top Chef/Tom Colicchio fans. We were delighted to actually see Tom at the counter expediting (maybe cooking?) food - we even took some faraway/creepy/stalkerish photos. The food can be described as homey Italian. Overall, almost everything was good but nothing really blew our minds. However for the prices (most entrees were sub $30), we were happy to try out a Chef Tom restaurant (and have an opportunity to see him!) without blowing the bank. - Veal tongue - my favorite dish! It was so tender and rich in flavor. They were very generous with the slices too so it made for a hearty appetizer. The salsa verde on top also brought a bright, acidic pop to the dish and I found myself liking it more and more with each bite. - Meatballs were also really good - it was so savory and tender! The sauce also made each bite so succulent and juicy - one of our other favorites of the night. - Radicchio salad was very fresh and herbalicious - I like the little orange slices and the light citrus and olive oil dressing. Overall I enjoyed it - but would I order this salad again? Probably not. - Cavatelli - probably the most disappointing dish I've eaten in a while. The pasta was almost a little too al dente. It was supposed to be an oxtail cavatelli yet there was almost no oxtail in it other than small ribbons in the sauce. My protein-loving fiance was very disappointed with the lack of protein in this dish ("if I wanted a vegetarian pasta, I would have gone with the cacio e pepe"). I was also not a fan of the giant rosemary that's kind of floating in the middle of the dish (rosemary: good for flavoring but not for chewing or eating). - Braised chicken - it's almost like Mexican shredded chicken. The sauce is a bit subdued after eating the vibrant sauce of the meatballs. The dish was tender and juicy but missing a certain wow factor. My fiance loved it because there was (1) a lot of chicken and (2) the price was only $25 for a protein entree. - Olive oil cake was a simple dessert but it was a good combo with the tart strawberries and sweet whipped cream - satisfying end to the dinner.

Yelp
Truly a gem. The service here is unmatched. We had a reservation and still had to wait maybeeee 10 minutes, if that, which was already no big deal and yet the hostess made sure we were taken care of and gave us a glass of champagne. Everyone who works here is so so so kind and the food is perfection every time.

Yelp
The food in this restaurant was outstanding. My family and I also ordered a couple of bottles of wine that also were excellent. Great service

Yelp
A hidden gem on 19th Steet. Vallata did not disappoint! The food was delicious and creative; the service was attentive, and the atmosphere is intimate, casual and enjoyable. The cauliflower and sage focaccia was light and tasty start to our meal. We ordered 3 appetizers to share before the pasta and main. All of the appetizers were delicious, but I truly enjoyed the chickpea salad with octopus. Just enough citrus and spice. The ricotta cavatelli with short rib, pine nuts and raisins was my favorite of the pasta selections, followed by a perfectly cooked skirt steak. So many good things to try so sharing is the way to go. It was also fun to watch the delicate orchestration in the open kitchen. I look forward to a return visit soon!

Caroline Y.

Yelp
The service was perfect--professional, friendly, attentive. The food was a mix--my fellow diners loved the cod and chicken dishes, and apparently the vegan bolognese was amazing. My dish, the campanelle with brussels, pancetta, and sage, was over salted, had a watery sauce, and was just not balanced (too much chewy pancetta and not enough Brussels). Execution needs some supervision. The place is quiet enough for conversation and rustic--very pleasant.

Yelp
This passion project of TOP CHEF judge Tom Collichio, located one door east of his flagship Craft, gets and deserves my best rating and is one of the best values I've ever found. Named for his family's ancestral village in the mountains east of Naples, Vallata features simple regional fare, beautifully prepared. I went twice this past week, once alone, once with a date. Both times I was ably guided by Olympia, who was charming and very informative about the menu. A hallmark of Tom Collichio's restaurants is the exceptional caliber of his staff, in my opinion the best trained, most professional and invested in the industry. William, who bartended that first night, was equally helpful and informative. At their suggestion I had the simple cacio e Pepe and the veal meatballs, both excellent. (And both a total bargain at $21/each) Tom, who cooked that night in the open kitchen, came over and had a brief but thoughtful conversation with me, clinked his wine glass and exited for the evening. 3 nights later I brought someone to share the experience. We shared an outstanding chick pea, calamari, shrimp and octopus salad, and had the skirt steak and braised pork shoulder entrees, both delicious. Every day one can order any pasta dish and a glass of wine for $29. This is a handsome dining room, top notch service, wonderful food and bargain pricing. Go

Yelp
Always sit at the bar - bartender is fun. Food is always consistent and good. Go with my wife and we split a an appetizer, salad and pasta then generally get our own entree.

Yelp
The food was amazing. Was one of the best meals I ever had. For appetizer you must get the focaccia bread. It was so good I wanted to order another plate. The service is on point. The wait staff is so nice. The ambiance is perfect for a date night or group setting. If you are in the area definitely check this place out!

Yelp
Went here on a whim and it had a very nice ambiance. I got the veal meatballs with grilled bread and the meatballs were quite tender and tasty. While the food was good, I wouldn't say it's anything to write home about. Overall, this restaurant certainly is not bad, however a bit pricy all things considered.

Yelp
I mean, come on. It's Tom Colicchio's restaurant. There's no way it could even be mediocre. It was outstanding of course. The decor lacks a little warmth, especially being right next to Craft, but I'm looking for good food, not interior design help. I love that there's an open kitchen in the restaurant. Staff was awesome. The food was a mix of different and traditional, and I loved every bit of it.

Yelp
Quite an average meal. Not what you expect from a Tom Colicchio establishment. Service was average - we went during restaurant week and ordered off the prefix menu (go with carte blanche option). the waiter recommended we order family style and recommended food items for us, I though it was funny that his recommendations included two of ever menu item that was a surplus - might be coincidental but yoh could tell the waiter was clearly trying to jack up the bill throughout the meal. Food with not worth the price- pastas were overcooked/saggy, sausage order seemed to be boiled and didnt have a crisp bite thay youd want from italian sausage. If youre looking to dine in Flatiron plenty of better options

Yelp
My fiancé and I went to Vallata for our first time last weekend and WOW!!!!!!! We had SUCH. A great experience!! I'm an atmosphere kind of girl and this place was aDORABLE. It felt romantic and intimate and just good vibes. We were sat in the corner and so we got to watch the whole restaurant in its groove! Christian was our waiter and was amazing. He was SO MUCH FRIGGIN FUN and hilarious. And honestly, Andrew and I did not know what to get so we let Christian order for us: we were not disappointed. Everything tasted SO amazing. The pasta, the meatballs, the artichoke, pork shoulder, dessert! It was a great way to celebrate Andrews bday!!! Christian our waiter kept us laughing all night and was so attentive. Literally, we dropped a napkin and had a new one in seconds. I can't rate this place highly enough. We can't wait to go back!!

Yelp
I really wanted to love this place but it was lackluster and mediocre. The staff however were friendly and hardworking. Atmosphere- it's a small elongated space, but was neither cosy nor bustling. There was really no atmosphere. It was like eating in a room. Maybe better music/ lighting might help. Staff- excellent, attentive and very friendly. Food- was average. The bruschetta was tasty but not amazing. The cacio e Pepe was good but not great. The affogato was banal. Drinks- the chasing spring cocktail was very good and refreshing. Overall we had a good time but nothing special or noteworthy. We will remember the great staff more than anything else.

Yelp
Spectacular experience. The ambiance. The service. The food! All top notch. One of my favorite meals in NYC. Adriana and Olympia made us feel so at home. Friendly, efficient, exemplary. It was my friend's birthday dinner, and I couldn't have chosen a better place. Congrats Tom Colicchio! I'll be back.

Yelp
Delicious food. Atmosphere is quiet, good for a calm evening with good food. Oxtail ragu was my favorite.

Yelp
Absolutely incredible service! I can not recommend this place enough!!! The staff always goes above and beyond to make every guest feel special. This is one of the few restaurant establishments where my trans, and gender non-conforming siblings feel safe, empowered and respected! This is a huge reason why we will continue to return to support the wonderful food and ambience of the restaurant! Thank you for always greeting my trans sibling with love, respect and class. This was my second time dinning at Vallata! Not only is the cacio e Pepe the best pasta in the city, but we will always return for the incredible service! The staff always goes above and beyond to make every guest feel special.

Yelp
Excellent. The food is comfort food cozy and immaculately executed. Cacio and Pepper bucatini were perfect. Pork shoulder in milk broth made me like pork - not a fan usually. The broth was divine. Surprised this place is not mobbed.

Yelp
My wife and I had the pasta with a glass of wine for $29. The choice of pasta was poor. The portions were extremely small and both our pastas were bland. It was a total rip off.
