33 LA Restaurants To Help You Avoid Delivery Deja Vu - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Valle is one of the newest restaurant on this list, but the people running it are far from novices. The chefs behind Gjelina and MTN look over the latter’s space and turned it into a Venice spot, serving a variety of Oaxacan dishes - everything from birria in consomé to ceviche made with kanpachi and squash blossom quesadillas. Oh, and some of The Best New Tacos In LA, too." - Kat Hong

Valle Review - Venice - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Taking over the former MTN space on Abbot Kinney, Valle’s menu leans Oaxacan, and the regional staples - tlayudas with quesillo and cocoa-bean spread, fantastic amarillo and verde moles - are certainly worth your attention. But we like their tacos the most; the focus is on flavorful, well-seasoned meats, like achiote-rubbed chicken with salted cabbage, and a grilled pork collar with pineapples, al pastor-style. The two standouts, though, are the tender and rich lamb barbacoa and the slightly salty pork belly, the latter of which is topped with green zebra tomato pico de gallo and a fermented manzano pepper salsa." - James Montgomery

Great place for drinks and appetizers, we had couple of rounds of the spicy margarita, the music was really nice and not too loud, they have different sections for seating, which makes it less noisy. Great spot for first date or drinks with friends. My favorite was the Mole and it is vegan! The menu is diverse and this place is pescatarian friendly! Service is on point.

love love love Gjellina, but this is a big miss for me. To charge Gjellina/Gjusta prices for casual Mexican Fare, it better be EFFING AMAZING. And it wasn't even close. I spent $54 on this food and only the Quesadilla was decent. And that was only because the smokey black sauce was INCREDIBLE. This place should shut down and just bottle that sauce. It's a 10 out of 10. But the tortillas on the tacos were unimpressive and dry and the meats were dry and the toppings weren't anything to write home about either. Lacked the flavor of a great taco. And they were TINY! The ceviche was tasty, but at $15, it was way too small. Ceviche and Tacos at Chulita on Rose are far superior. You pay a hair more but the tacos are way bigger and the flavor is fantastic.

Loved almost everything. We tried the vegan tlayuda, which look beautiful but the flavors where a little muted, I would probably try it with cheese and/or pork next time. And, the dry aged pescado, had an overly fishy flavor. Otherwise, everything else was delicious the Japanese sweet potatoes, cauliflower, Pollo adobado and the mole amarillo. The cocktails were great and well balanced. The vibe is perfect. The service was pretty good expect for probably the last 30-40 minutes we were there. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Valle is a haunt, a place to gather with your near and dear for fabulous food and drink. The ground floor is dedicated primarily to a darkly lit long bar with a half dozen tables well spaced apart and tucked against the far wall and the 1-directional mirrored windows that face Abbott Kinney. From the outside, the building is clad in bark and three stories tall, making it fairly distinct from the rest of the low slung bungalows along the boulevard. Also, making a distinct impression is the casual vibe, the parking lot turned into a mezzanine and rooftop deck with light strings and plants to make more cozy for diners. Service is friendly. It appears the timing of dishes out of the kitchen can be ill-paced with the ordering of drinks when the place is hopping. Forgivable given how good the dishes are. Two of us shared the fresh seafood dishes -- big eye tuna crudo with a crackling of pink salt, oil, and a dollop of jalapeño crema and flash fried garlic, served with dill and thinly sliced watermelon radishes as a garnish; and, bbq- grilled octopus, still soft on the interior served over a bed of slivered onions and mole sauce. Before appetizers, we shared house-made chips with red pepper, creamy guacamole and sweet red salsa. We ordered the house speciality margaritas and swallowed down three between us and several orders of the stand outs of the meal -- smokey bbq, roasted fish tacos on blue corn tortillas with spicy mayo, cabbage, red onions and lime. The timing on the drinks never seemed to line up with the delivery of the food so we found ourselves often eating without drinks and drinking without food. My wife and I love Oaxacan food and have eaten it in Mexico and up and down the West Coast from Baja to Washington. This meal was as good (or with specific reference to the fish tacos, better) as any we have ever eaten anywhere. My one small gripe is that when a restaurant is good, bordering on great, it should make every effort to serve as many of its customers with as much of the menu as possible. We were disappointed that the Chef was not willing to make any modifications, even due to food allergies. Still, a wonderful meal and evening.

Overall 3/5 Food 4/5 Value 1/5 Service 2/5 We were so excited to try a new place owned by the Gjelina group, but honestly, this feels like a big miss. The space is industrial and well designed, the menu has a nice variety and the vibe is good. The food we order was very tasty with the exception of the quesadilla, which was somewhat bland. The margaritas are expensive, TINY (maybe 4oz?), and lacked flavor. My biggest complaint is the portion size. For the prices they charge, the portions are an absolute joke. Seriously these are some of the smallest portions I’ve ever seen, even for LA. The $12 salsa, guac and chips included a dollop of guac, a spoonful of salsa and a handful of chips. Service was pretty lackluster and the manager charged us to replace food that had dropped on the floor. A 20% service fee is compulsory and automatically included despite leaving a line to add even more gratuity. I can’t imagine returning here, which is a shame because I really love Gjelina.

Food was Amazing!!!! Had the chicken taquitos and Guacamole. Best taquitos I have EVER had! Also, the most tasty michelada with just enough spice. Chips were warm and taste homemade. Will definitely be back!

This place is UNREAL. Very picky about our Mexican food and did this ever exceed expectations. Ambiance for dinner/late night drinks super romantic and I can't say enough about the food! The Elote and the ceviche were my fav! Cocktails are bomb. Staff is also very kind and very on top of their game. Shout out to Rigoberto for such great service.

Very delicious. The goat stew is very authentic tasting with great hand made tortillas. Beers great. Valle margaritas are worth it 💯💯
