Chicago Celeb Chef Stephanie Izard Enters the Bay Area Restaurant Scene With Valley Goat | Eater SF

"Award-winning chef Stephanie Izard opens her first Bay Area restaurant with a launch in Sunnyvale on Monday, March 31; it serves as the star restaurant for Treehouse Hotel Silicon Valley and is an addition to Izard’s growing list of “Goat” restaurants, including Girl & the Goat and Cabra (both with locations in Chicago and Los Angeles), plus Little Goat Diner and Duck Duck Goat in Chicago. The menu zigzags across different types of cuisines and utilizes locally grown produce for a mix of dishes filled with "bold, globally inspired flavors," per a press release. Fans of Izard’s restaurants may spy familiar dishes such as goat- and veggie-stuffed empanadas with a "limey" dressing with huacatay, a Peruvian herb, or the sticky pork shank. New creations continue her focus on pulling culinary ideas from all corners of cooking: disco fries here get the surprising addition of pork sausage, coconut caramel, and pickled jalapeños; spiced fish tostadas made with cod; a "spicy handroll" dip made with tuna and hamachi; biscuits with pimiento cheese punched up with chile crunch; wood-fired sprouted cauliflower and whole branzino; and an eggplant dish made with tahini, carrot hummus, and tzatziki. Lunch is available during the week and the restaurant will have brunch offerings on the weekend, with hours 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily and weekend brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; reservations are available via SevenRooms. The cocktail menu includes non-alcoholic and low-ABV options and promises a "focus on seasonality," according to the press release, and the dining room will feature a healthy number of plants and a retro style echoed throughout the lounge area and cobblestone patio, per the San Francisco Chronicle." - Dianne de Guzman

We were really looking forward to our visit. The restaurant had great reviews. It is physically inside the Tea House Hotel. The restaurant has that cool trendy vibe witha great atmosphere. The service was polite and efficient but very rushed. It feels like you're just being processed through the assembly line. I can't really blame them the place was busy and it was a Tuesday night. The food was good but not great. The chief is trying to create innovative dishes however just doesn't hit the mix. The Branzion was a little dry and had a Thai inspired sweet and sour sauce which absolutely over powered the taste of the fish. For Branzion less is more. The braised short ribs were ok but lacked fall of the bone tender quality you expect when paying a premium price. With the rest of the items we ordered we had the same opinion good but not quite the 5 stars we were hoping for.

I have been to Valley Goat 🐐 3 times. Is it perfect? No… but my wife and I still feel like it’s worthy of a 5/5. There are some solid dishes and drinks from top to bottom. The price point is better than some tasting menu but it’s not cheap. The parking used to be a pain but not there’s free valet. The atmosphere inside and out is pretty solid within the grounds but it is still a funky location. I need to try the brunch but overall I like this place and it’s nice to see this chef with a restaurant so close by.

The food, tapas style, was generally good. The goat empanadas starter and the shrimp salad were probably better than the Yucatán pork belly & tomato, which was not bad but I feel was not very memorable — pondering for a few moments, I think the Yucatán pork belly & tomato could use a little extra kick. Yea, I think the first two plates had their own unique flavors, and so were memorable. Finally, the spiced apple pancake was good — I usually don’t have pancakes but that was not too sweet, and so I ended up finishing my half. In case someone wanna get the pork shank, it is not on the lunch menu — only the dinner menu has it (as of Jan 2026). Service and atmosphere and vibe were all very good. There was hand lotion in the restroom, which was nice. Overall 4 ⭐️ seems fair. I think if the food can be a tad elevated, it would bring my rating close to 5 ⭐️ Btw this restaurant is part of the treehouse hotel.

I recently moved from Chicago and the food scene there was the best. Finding this gem in the Bay Area was incredible. Everything was delicious. The server was so helpful in explaining all of her favorite dishes to us! We went to celebrate a holiday dinner and the only thing that would have made it top notch was holiday music instead of Tupac (but that’s a personal preference haha). Highly recommend and I’d definitely come back here again.

I used to be sad that Faz closed in this space. But wow what a replacement! If you haven’t been to Valley Goat and you’re thinking about it, stop waiting. It’s amazing. And don’t be intimidated by “goat” … most of the dishes don’t involve goat. I’ve had a variety of large and small plates and every single one has been amazing. And the New Years Eve set menu was amazing.

I was super excited when I discovered that my favorite Chicago restaurant opened its sister location here in Sunnyvale and I’ve already been back a couple of times. The space itself is gorgeous! Filled with plants, warm lighting, and a vibrant, modern feel. My favorite dishes so far are the crispy quinoa + tuna poke salad. I love the crispy quinoa so much that I’m seriously tempted to learn how to make it myself (it’s that good). I also tried several other dishes: the empanadas, scones, matcha tres leches, and the potato crepe (available only during weekend brunch) that one was deliciously crispy and full of flavor. That said, I will note that the portions tend to be on the smaller side, so if you’re going with a group or want to leave feeling truly full, it’s good to plan for multiple dishes. I will definitely come back again!

Amazing experience!! Great ambiance with lots of live plants and a living wall of primarily pothos in the waiting area. Great service. We loved Fernando's attentiveness and exceptional service. The menu changes frequently. Today we dined on Goat Empanadas, Veggie Empanadas, Crispy Quinoa Tuna Poke Salad, Yucatan Pork Belly & Tomato, Yolk-Onomiyaki, House Maple Sausage, Brunch Potatoes, and Cinnabiscuit. Everything was awesome, but my favorite was the Quinoa. The light popping in your mouth, combined with the creaminess of the avocado makes it amazing! All of the dishes were an exploration of wonderful textures and amazing flavors. Highly recommended!!!

I was unfamiliar with the area and leaned on reviews to find a local restaurant for dinner. I can say with certainty that the reviews did not steer me wrong. I called its third-party reservation line and while I was informed there were no more availabilities for the remainder of evening, I was encouraged to stop by in case there were available seating at the bar or last minite changes to reservations. I'm glad I did because they were able to accommodate me with a table. The restaurant was located amongst the Treehouse hotel property that included their picturesque hotel check-in building, a Beer Garden, Commons, swimming pool and more. Upon entering the restaurant, it was dimly lit with eye-catching decor, plants, colors and warmth. It felt very trendy and cozy at the same time. The music consisted of mainstream 90's hip hop or R&B vibes that felt relevant for Silicon Valley culture. I loved it as I grew up listening to 80s and 90s music. I ordered the Hamachi Poke and Tuna with quinoa salad. I paired it with a glass of Petit Chablis wine. Food here are portioned as shareable plates so you may "travel the world" as my waitress explained. Great way to explain tapas style. I finished dinner with the Chocolate Passionfruit Semifreddo dessert. It was delectable! The balance between the brownie and ice cream was perfect. Prior to finishing dessert, I'd already made a mental note to plan my birthday dinner celebration this month. I'd be curious to visit here during lunch so I can get a landscape view of the outdoor seating area. I recommend visiting this establishment when you're in the area.
