"Homemade food like Babcia would make, Val’s Polish Kitchen specializes in comforting diner and Polish fare for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The Polish part of the menu is small but solid, with goulash, kielbasa, and potato pancakes. There are five filling options for the homemade pierogi, including potato, spinach and cheese, and kraut, with the option to add onion or load it up with ham and onion, mushroom and onion, or bacon and onion." - Dorothy Hernandez

Excellent food and great service. The bread was super fresh and great with the dill pickle soup. I've never had goulash with pork, only beef, but it was really good over the potato pancake. The combination plate was fantastic. The pierogi were perfectly fried. The beef and potato ones were so good. Everything was so good and we will be back for sure.

This is a great place..No...an Amazing place ..Wonderful food at a good price. I was born in Warszawa Poland, this is the kind of food I grew up on! The soups are spot on,so are the main courses. Polish not your thing today? Lots of other dishes on the menu to chose from. Breakfast is great too, the omeletts are wonderful. What are you waiting for? Great staff, great service and amazing food!

Google
Went to Val's Polish Kitchen today and both the food and service were excellent! We had a Val's Combo Plate, Chicken Dumpling Soup and Potato Pancakes. Everything was freshly prepared and delicious! The restaurant was clean and the menu is full of great dishes to enjoy! I will be returning to Val's soon for some more delicious food!

It's cold out today and I was hungry for some really terrific food so I went to Val's Polish Kitchen and ordered takeout including a Val's Combo and some Potato Pierogis. Everything was freshly prepared, and absolutely DELICIOUS! Val's food is like having a home cooked meal and is a great value for price. I will be back very soon! :)

Google
the kraut wasn't too sour. it almost just tasted like boiled cabbage, but it was still good I ordered a side of mashed potatoes. the portions were a good size.

Went to Val's Polish Kitchen and had a Combo Plate - it was fantastic! The restaurant was clean and the service was excellent! I worked in Detroit for many decades and used to go to Hamtramck regularly for great Polish food. Val's food is every bit as good as one can get in Hamtramck! I will be going back for some more great food at Val's Polish Kitchen very soon!

Google
There was a very homey feel to Val's. The dumpling soup was absolutely fabulous! Below are pictures of the soup and goulash. I will be honest I was not a fan of the Schnitzel which I ordered as it caught my eye on the menu, but it just wasn't for me personally. Again really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere.

Google
Great place! Everyone was very friendly, food was awesome. I prefer my kraut with more tang, but everything else was spot on 👌 we had a bowl of fill pickle soup and the Polish Combo with a potato pancake on the side. Cute little place. We will definitely be back 😊

Yelp
It pains me to give what seems to be a family owned place an honest 3 star, but this establishment really has only earned 3 stars for me. The staff is really sweet and the service was great. The pierogis are respectable. The fried chicken was very crispy. Portions are very good! However, everything else fell pretty flat for me. The mashed potatoes were bland as ever, the "vegetable" for the side was canned corn, the crepe was mediocre, the kielbasa was meh, the sauerkraut was unflavorful, rolled cabbage was fairly unremarkable. Maybe it's just me, but everything was just super low on flavor. Needs more spice.

Yelp
I love eating Polish food even though I have to stay away from the pork since I don't eat it. That kind of limits me as to what I can get from the menu, but I can still have a good time and order other dishes. I started with the dill soup which I thought was okay. Good soup, just not in love with it. I do recommend though. After we both reviewed the menu, my friend and I got perogies. They have a few different flavors, and I went with the potato and spinach with cheese. I guess you can get them pan fried or boiled? Pan fried only for me! You can also get onions on top and something else, but I passed on both. The food here was really good, but compared to other polish restaurants, not the greatest. They do try hard here and are a small business, so I gave them an extra star for that. The prices here are fair, lots to choose from and overall a good solid meal. Also, their open for breakfast? I guess I'm going to have to come back and try this place again!

Yelp
Awesome service and great food. We started with the soup of the day, cream of mushrooms. It was a light and warm way to start Polish culinary experience. Then the pierogi cheese, sauerkraut and the best potato. The Wife said they need a pierogi with the stuffed cabbage fill and the tomatoe sauce for a dip, she us usually right. The Val's combo was just enough for both of us to eat. City chicken, cabbage roll and saurkraut. It was so good.

Yelp
So my buddy randomly sent me a photo of this place saying that he was eating here and was like, where are you? He was Joking! So today, I decided I wanted to check it out and have food. I took a photo and said I had been driving all night and finally found this place. You didn't send me directions. Now that I am here, where are you? LOL All kidding aside, I am thrilled I came here. This place is fantastic, with great food, excellent customer service. Jade was pretty awesome. She was very upbeat, and when I told her my buddy was coming, she didn't bat an eye. She also suggested deserts. I was like yeah! I find it weird when a waitress does not tell me about the desert. I am a fat ass; I will never say no to dessert. LOL I ordered up the Hungarian Goulash with potato pancakes. I wasn't expecting what I got. But I have to say I was not disappointed. It was delicious. I had the rice pudding that was fantastic as well. All and all, this place is great.

Yelp
If you're looking for traditional Polish food, this is the spot. Prices are fair, portions are generous, and there are plenty of options and combinations. We enjoyed everything we ordered with the exception of the chicken (and that was just preference). We will definitely be back the next time we have a craving for some pierogies!

James G.

Yelp
Unfortunately this amazing restaurant is out of business. I have been coming here for a long time now and truly enjoyed their food.

Stephanie M.

Yelp
Really great food and very filling. Glad we discovered this little gem. Those daily specials are a great value and really filling!

Jeff C.

Yelp
Very sad to to see Val's close. Best polish food in Detroit area, will be missed. Take care

Jennifer J.

Yelp
Excellent variety of pierogi and kielbasa and great service too! I love to come back here when I'm in town.

Julie H.

Yelp
I was craving Polish food and discovered this gem on Yelp! I couldn't decide what to get because everything looked amazing. Luckily, Vickie kindely helped me choose the Val's Combo so I could sample many items. Wow - such generous portions for a great price! This meal included perfectly prepared, potato pierogis with grilled onions and sour cream. They also can add bacon but I declined. The meal also included stuffed cabbage, city chicken, Kraut, Kielbasa, and sour dough bread. I took the meal home but you can eat inside this clean and cheerful restaurant. The food is so delicious and authentic!!! They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. I live in Charleston, SC, otherwise I'd be a frequent customer here. The staff is so friendly!

Diane B.

Yelp
Excellent food and very generous portions. Ambiance was very nice and our service was good. Definitely will go back again.

Cindy P.

Yelp
Food was just OK, stuffed cabbage was mushy, pierogi dough was very thick - I guess it depends on what you're used to ? The service was great !

Ann O.

Yelp
Excellent food and the service! Such a pleasant experience. No reason to drive to Hamtramck to get authentic polish food anymore! I cannot wait to try more things.

Anthony E.

Yelp
Our first taste was as simple as a couple quarts of chicken dumpling soup. It was wonderful even though there was no chicken. The only thing keep one star from perfect. We'll be back!

P O.

Yelp
I do not want to say much, I like it low keyed and not busy, for it's size. Otherwise, it would be crowded, busy, wait times, and maybe reservations needed A family owned and operated business A gem for our area

Christina P.

Yelp
I really wanted stuffed peppers but they were out at prime dinner time. I was surprised to see that the restaurant was pretty empty. This should have been my clue. The chicken noodle soup smelled and tasted like it was from a can. And the veggies were definitely from a can. I was looking forward to the stuffed cabbage but the flavors were very flat. Geriatric nursing home lunch is right on the dot for this place. Right down to the presentation... I was hoping for some good home cooked polish grandma's stuffed cabbage and all...so sad it wasn't it.

david s.

Yelp
Decent enough , although Polish food never taste as good as grandmas it's close enough

Carla K.

Yelp
Best sauerkraut ever . Love the pierogi. Love all of it. Just good food, good prices, friendly staff.

Ps W.

Yelp
Great authentic polish food! The Dill Pickle soup is so good! Large serving sizes. Service with care, greeted with smiles! Pick up a carry out order for grandma today. Quick service for lunches!

Nicole P.

Yelp
Omg where do I start, everything is delicious!!! The short ribs melt in your mouth!!! The pierogi's are so yummy they are my favourite!!! When my family comes to visit they love to eat here because the food is so good. You can tell everything is cooked with love here.

Cinnabo C.

Yelp
You can easily miss this polish little gem if your not looking. I had the stuffed cabbage with mashed potatoes and carrots. It was the best stuffed cabbage I've had in years!! The stuffed cabbage didn't even need a knife. I was able to slice through it with my fork.

Katherine J.

Yelp
I picked up carry out: pierogis (cheese and potato), potato pancakes, and sausage. Service: great, no complaints Sausage: tasty and pretty lean Pierogis: not my favorite to be honest. Potato Pancakes: delicious!!!

Chris M.

Yelp
Always the best polish food. Wish I lived closer or maybe not lol. But never been disappointed.

Mary M.

Yelp
I stopped in here for lunch one Saturday prior to going grocery shopping. The restaurant was quite quiet but not empty when I got there. Please note, you don't enter from the perceived front but rather the side. There is a not on what would be the front door stating as such; it is just a bit awkward. When I got there, while it was a bit late for lunch, it wasn't outrageously late. The restaurant was on the quiet but not dead side as far as customers goes.i got seated right away. When I could not decide between 2 different t dishes, my waitress was able to make a recommendation. Which to me is always helpful. I went with the kielbasa and cheese omelet. I asked for my hashbrowns to be well done as I like crunchy hashbrowns. My hashbrowns came out at a normal amount of done rather then well done. This is the main reason for the decrease. When I got my check, the waitress had written down well done hashbrowns so maybe there was some miscommunication between her and the kitchen staff. The other minor reason for the decrease was my waitress really wanted me to pay my bill right away given that she mentioned in the 3 times she came by after dropping it off. Mind you, I was still eating my lunch. These 2 minor issues are why I have given 4 stars instead of 5. But I would come back.

Yelp
Val's Polish Kitchen is EXCELLENT! I have eaten there many times and had carry out too. My favorite is Val's Combo with City Chicken, Pierogi, Cabbage Roll, Sauerkraut and Smoked Kielbasa! It's a substantial meal and a great value for the money too. I worked in Detroit for decades and used to go to Poletown for great Polish food. Val's Polish Kitchen is as good as anything I have ever had in Hamtramck! Try Val's out .... you will be very glad you did!

Lauren S.

Yelp
When I can't get my Polish relatives to cook for me, I come here. Excellent food and a great value. I ordered a small dill pickle soup and a Val's Combo, ate half and took half home.

Aaron A.

Yelp
Great food, could use a bit more salt in the stuffed cabbage and city chicken however they may have people saying the opposite since some people watch sodium intake. Overall great for the price.

vincent n.

Yelp
Above and beyond amazing me being Polish and I know how to cook very well thanks to my grandmother if you don't want to cook and spend the time it here it's home cooking the right way

Kari G.

Yelp
I was looking for something different to eat and came across this place. Noticed the menu was great with many options. Arrived and staff was very friendly! It's a cute place. I noticed they have dill pickle soup which I've never tried before. The waitress highly recommended it and it did not disappoint! I would gladly go back every week to have it. Also ordered the pirogies which were fantastic you could tell they were homemade. Overall I would totally come back again and again.

J H.

Yelp
I picked up stuffed cabbage, city chicken and Salisbury steak. All delicious. All made with love.

Steve M.

Yelp
Delicious, authentic Polish/Ukranian style food. Homemade cooking. prices, nice service, good portions. Enjoy!

Krolikowski J.

Yelp
I have always thought this restaurant was a hidden gem. I'm Polish and i think the food tastes like my grandma's home cooking. I always get the Val's combo and you can get one fresh kielbasa and one smoked kielbasa. The sauerkraut almost melts in your mouth. Love the city chicken and the stuffed cabbages. The dill pickle soup is delicious and your meal is served with fresh rye bread and butter. Perogis come boiled or pan fried - and they have sauerkraut perogis, which are my favorite. They will also serve them with sautéed onions and bacon, and of course sour cream. Delicious "home-made" food.

Irwin F.

Yelp
I was impressed! Clean place, homey, with a polite staff. The food was spot on authentic and is darn good. I had the combo and it all tasted great! Try it while in the area. You will like it.

Jessica B.

Yelp
The pan fried potato pierogies were amazing! I was also a big fan of the chicken dumpling soup and sauerkraut. Our waitress was nice and attentive. Food came out fast. Will definitely return!

Jeff M.

Yelp
I can't move! I ate the Val's platter. Real authentic Polish food! You walk in and the wonderful smell of a real Polish kitchen greets you. The servers make you feel like family. I'm not Polish, but now I want to be! Comfort food at its finest!

Ralph S.

Yelp
Val's amazing Thursday Special Borsh Soups....

Vanessa T.

Yelp
This place usually has good food and service. Unfortunately they lost a star today when the chef was sighted without wearing a mask while preparing food. Not in this day and age. Be responsible get your mask on.

Theresa S.

Yelp
Food was terrific. I had the cabbage soup. I cannot remember the last time I had cabbage soup made this way and it was wonderful. I also had the Hungarian Goulash served over potato pancakes. So so good. Service was great and prices are too. Will be back soon. Love this restaurant. Have tried many menu items. All so good. Love the soups but always return to the delicious cabbage soup. Have never had better. Service is always very good and the staff very friendly.

Victoria K.

Yelp
Ok, I am Eastern European, so I know polish food very well. Decor-cafeteria like. Nothing authentic or polish about it. Felt a bit geriatric, nursing home lunch.. The service was ok, the waitress was attentive, but I had to wait 15 min for her to pick up the payment.. I tried the dill soup. Originally wanted the mushroom soup, but enquired if mushrooms are from a can I do not want it, so she brought dill The soup was pretty good, except too much salt. Entrée was stuffed cabbage. Ehh.. Not impressed. Too much rice with the meat, not enough sauce, the food was mildly warm.. Mixed veggies looked like from a frozen bag and mashed potatoes tasted like powder from a box. After $10 I must say I don't think I will be back, maybe for the soup.. Hamtramck is better. One thing to owners, if you open a restaurant, please take pride in your food and don't just put whatever on the plate. This restaurant is a bit disappointing.

Smiley V.

Yelp
Think "American Diner meets Polish soul food." While there are plenty of American Diner favorites available on the menu, the real GEM here is the special Polish menu. I've never really had authentic polish fare before (outside of store-bought pierogies and kielbasa). And I'm sort of now regretting why I haven't made this a regular craving in my life sooner. But if, in fact, this is authentic polish cuisine, I've been missing out! The dish I picked allows you to pick between stuffed cabbage or city chicken (stuffed cabbage all the way!), and you get kielbasa and pierogies as sides. The stuffed cabbage is pretty much a mix of rice, ground pork, and some other bits of magic! But seriously, it reminds me of a meatloaf consistency. I cannot wait to return!

Michal G.

Yelp
Stopped into Val's for a quick breakfast as we were waiting for some of the store's to open up across the street. The place is very clean, and the staff is super friendly and attentive. My wife and I both got omelette's, which we both thought were super delicious, and the portion sizes were HUGE for the price that you pay. I would highly recommend the Polish Omelette with Smoked Kielbasa - - AMAZING!! We will definitely come back in to try out the lunch/dinner menu items. Very reasonable prices and great food options. Really looking forward to coming back!

Ashley M.

Yelp
Wonderful food. The portions are massive, authentic, and tasty! The prices are so reasonable. To add a soup to your meal is $1. They also have a multitude of daily specials to choose from beyond their normal menu. Great food. Great price. Will return.

Sean Z.

Yelp
Very good all around. Generous tasty portions at a fair price. Many homemade options. We had pirogies, pickle soup, city chicken and rice pudding. I thought the food was better then the big fancy Polish competitor nearby. We will definitely go back. And Val was actually a real person working there.

Erik M.

Yelp
Blown away by the quality of the crispy but gooey potato pancakes, the deep fried cheese pierogi, and freshly made nalesniki. My grandma and I went for lunch, had great service, and ate too much. This strip mall polish food is excellent. The coffee is bad. Don't get the coffee.

Denise S.

Yelp
Not good Polish food. Very blah and mushy. Ur entire table thought the food wasn't good Polish food. Sad I had high expectations and we were totally dissatisfied. The restaurant in Milford is a 5 now!.

Christine S.

Yelp
Really good. Stopped in on a whim after getting my haircut at Salon Q . I went with the cabbage roll dinner and my daughter went with the potato pierogi's. Both were excellent! My rolls were hearty and full with a good amount of delicious sauce. The pierogi's were huge and my daughter loved them. I also took a quart of the barley soup home for lunch tomorrow. Couldn't resist a taste today , it did not disappoint. They packed it up with a few slices of super soft bread that made excellent toast for breakfast today. I will be heading back for sure !

Ric S.

Yelp
Fabulous and extremely clean Polish Restaurant with a wide variety of great soups and other Polish meals. Love both their Borscht and Chicken noodle soups and other lo sodium combo meals and desserts. Yummilicious.

Kristina L.

Yelp
Food was ok, not sure what polish food should taste like but it was pretty authentic I believe. Not bad pirogies we're great! Idk if I would go back, if I did I would try the spinach pie. The place has a diner feel to it. Worth trying if your in the mood for something different.

Ruth F.

Yelp
This place smells like your Grandma's house. Food is good, especially those farmer cheese perogi. The dill pickle soup however didn't have much flavor.

Melissa G.

Yelp
Delicious! We split a perogi dish (one of every flavor) they were all very good, but I was surprised to find out my favorite was the one with sauerkraut. The Hungarian goulash was delicious, I tried it with the potatoes pancakes. As suggested by one of the best servers I have had the pleasure of meeting.
