There are so many flavors to choose from. I tasted the Marionberry Cheesecake, it was so good. But, I had the Praline Butter Cake it was creamy with lots butter cake pieces and chopped pecans. The classic strawberry was evenly delicious, smooth, and creamy flavor. The customer service is spectacular, I like that the first thing they ask if I have any food allergies 👍🏼👍🏼.

Google
Cute seating inside and outside. A lot of flavors were sold out when we got there so maybe I recommend earlier in the day? I did the vegan strawberry shortcake and you wouldn’t even be able to tell it’s non dairy 🥰.

We were so excited to see that Van Leeuwen Ice Cream started to serve 2 fall seasonal special flavors which were Pumpkin Cheesecake and Vegan Dark Chocolate Pumpkin Pie recently. We tried the Pumpkin Cheesecake and it was delicious, full of pumpkin taste and perfect for fall with creamy & rich texture. My friend got the vegan dark chocolate pumpkin pie but she didn't like it and thought it's a little wired.

I don't know what happened! Van Leeuwen's used to have a clearly labeled menu with allergens and lots of gluten free options, but it seems like over the past two years, they have stopped labeling their menu (you can scan a QR code to get the allergen menu, but its way more confusing and sometimes doesn't match the menu in the actual location, with certain things being out of stock or just not available), and they stopped having very many gluten free flavors at all. Super bummer that they seem to be moving backwards with accessibility and inclusivity for those of us with allergies.

Google
It's nice looking ice shop from the outside and in. Has vegan ice cream options as well. The only reason why I went because or the long line of people waiting in line. I really wanted a milkshake but they didn't have it at the time so I just for a small ice cream. Taste good but definitely on the higher end cost wise compare to most ice cream shops.

Google
Couldn’t put 0 stars unfortunately. Never order a delivery from this place. Stupidity overloaded there. The road to me was 25 minutes by car. The order I was waiting for 1h45 minutes! And guess what? They brought me the wrong order!! All filled with chemical chocolate, other trash artificial flavors and tons of sugar! I ordered two ice-creams with plain taste: vanilla and pistachio and got this vomiting honey fudge something trash! And they tried to put it on the delivery guy that it was him who made a mistake! Though he asked twice if it was the right order! And don’t even get me started on 1fcn hour of who knows what you’ve been doing with two ice-creams! Of course it takes the whole hour to get the ice-cream from the fridge and put it to the bag! Of course! Idk who works there but lazy slowpokes is the least name I can create for them! Spoiled the whole already disgusting rainy day even more!

Earlier today before 2pm I ordered ice cream with a cone. The employee who was a bit heavyset grabbed the cone with her bare hand. I didn’t say anything in the moment but I was disgusted by her cleanliness.

Google
Planet earth is my favorite ice cream so far. I wish they sold some sorbets for a more refreshing option. Only actual complaint about this place that I have is who are those tables in the back for? I have yet to see anyone actually fit behind them. Awful design.

Yelp
Van Leuuwen's been a favorite for a long time. Their ice cream is amazing (LOVE the Earl Grey flavor!) and the cute pastel aesthetic of their shops is just the cutest. I recently learned that they not only allow dogs to come in while you order, but they also give them pup cups. We'll definitely be stopping by on our dog walks throughout this summer! :)

Yelp
I screamed for ice cream during my professional travels while in Brooklyn. On a Tuesday mid-morning it appeared no customers flocked for ice cream in this Prospect Heights, Brooklyn location. I decided on one of my all time predilections, strawberry but there were no traditional strawberry syrup as a topping. My one scoop strawberry ice cream in a cup tasted like cherry vanilla, but far remote of any familiar strawberry flavoring. It was a very brash aggressive heavy cream vanilla flavoring taste. Indoor seating is available where groups or dates can gather after dinner within the vicinity. The server appears very nonchalant and excessively stolid of inexperienced part-time high school age or college age as this job is simply mere pocket spending money enabling to purchase clothes rather than a source of income. Two stars? Why? My overview summary: 1. For one ice cream scoop totaling $6.98, I presented a $10.00 bill and there were no change in cash available. I previously worked in retail for seven (7) years and always had $300.00 cash as operating money to function as a business for each cash register. Absolutely no change in cash is intolerable! This is inconceivable!! 2. Inflation in 2024 era is sky high for food as nothing is immune due the effects from the rising cost of production and materials. However, the price $6.98 is excessively exorbitant. How about a realistic and reasonable price of $6.50? 3. No traditional strawberry syrup as topping. There were limited traditional toppings. 4. This business uses Square paperless cash register and sales receipts can be produced is via email or text only. The inability to print a physical sales receipt. I prefer Counterpoint as a functional and effective POS cash register for all retail brick and mortar businesses. 5. Hire more experienced customer service personnel. Or, train your employees customer service skills for learning and professional development with empathy and compassion. Err on the side of caution to be wary of your customer's needs! Bye Felicia!

Yelp
This location wasn't here when I lived in brooklyn. But now they are opening them up all over. The service is great. Every time I come in here I'm greeted, and everyone is so nice. It's always clean. I get indecisive and they are good at letting me try as many flavors as I need to. I remember one time my boyfriend and I came 5 minutes after opening. They didn't have waffle cones yet and the girl made them fresh for us with no attitude. I love the vegan cookie dough. I tried a flavor over the summer I forget what it was but it was amazing. I went back for it and they didn't have it. Hopefully they bring it back and I can remember what it's called lol. They are pricey, what's not these days I love that they have a ton of vegan options. Customer service is unmatched.

Yelp
We just picked up my granddaughter from camp and she was promised to go for ice cream... Van Leeuwen. It was just few block walk and we stepped inside. Luckily, we waited a couple of minutes and got some seating. It is a very small seating area so outside is where everyone hangs out and eats ice cream. My issue was that it was very hot outside and I did not want to watch my ice cream melt in front of me. It's a cozy, modern shop with lots of windows to keep it very bright. Light colored walls with plenty of signage. Overall, a very pleasant place. So, after a short time in line we ordered. Three child size containers of ice cream and two, adult sized portions (two scoops). This modest order was $38.00. Truly, I was a little surprised. Nothing special, just some scoops of ice cream, one had sprinkles. I must say though.. It was delicious!!! Incredibly creamy and flavorful. I will definitely come back! KUDOs to the team here at Van Leeuwen Ice Cream - Prospect Heights

Yelp
Nick rocks! He's so friendly. Can't wait to come back for more delicious ice cream and Nick's awesome customer service.

Xue Lin L.

Yelp
We ordered three scoops ($11): pistachio, praline butter cake, and lemon creamsicle. Service was quick, but the interior was quite cramped on a Sunday afternoon. The pistachio was very underwhelming, I was expecting pistachio chunks or even a stronger pistachio flavor but it was just alright. (3/5) The lemon creamsicle was pretty good, but I wish it had more of a lemon flavor and tasted less of alcohol. I'm not sure what it's made with but it tasted heavily of alcohol. (4/5) The praline butter cake flavor was amazing. Highly recommend, rich and good texture. (5/5)

Katelyn W.

Yelp
If you are new to the area or just want something sweet. Go to Van Leeuwen and try their dark chocolate fudge ice cream. It is very rich and creamy. If chocolate isn't for you I did taste the Marion Berry Cheescake ice cream and that would have been my second pick. They have a lovely variety to choose from and the staff is patient. 10/10

Kristen B.

Yelp
I witnessed an employee today get irritated with their coworker who asked for help with our order. This worker with the bandana finished our order kindly even though she seemed shocked by the other person storming off. This person with the hat then stood outside the store infront of my family and yelling about the situation. I've been here a few times as I'm new to the area and this was just extremely unprofessional.

Sarah F.

Yelp
If you know this ice cream brand, you know their flavors and richness is what you keep going back for. I've tried a dozen of their flavors and although some are a hit and some a miss, you still get excited to try their newest one! Their sweet potato pie is a win and is one of the best flavors I have tried! Brilliantly created and brilliantly executed!

Keren B.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream & great customer service. Nick was kind and helpful with my kids.

Alessandra V.

Yelp
ive had their pints before and they are so good. i love that they had vegan whip cream here. i got the vegan cookie dough with vegan whip cream on top. my sister got the honeycomb and chocolate fudge brownie in a waffle cone (they were freshly made).

Lauren I.

Yelp
The service was a bit prickly when I went on Saturday, but the ice cream is delicious. I don't know exactly what they put into the sundae, but the individual components were great. That said, I would recommend just getting the ice cream so you get those pure, beautiful flavors. And pro-tip: get the vegan whipped cream even if you're not vegan! It's got a beautiful coconut flavor from the coconut milk.

Michelle T.

Yelp
We stumbled onto this Van Leeuwen on our way back to the parking lot for our car. Workers are super friendly and nice at this location. After I ordered, the staff member helping me confirmed that I didn't have any dietary restrictions or allergies that they should be aware of. As always, the Earl Grey ice cream here is fantastic and does not disappoint. Cash only, which wasn't a problem for me, but I can see it being one for others.

Gina B.

Yelp
This is my favorite ice cream spot in the area. They have amazing flavors and we are trying them all. So far the honeycomb is incredible and one of the favorites. Also the vegan churros with fudge is amazing. They have expansive vegan flavors, equally as delicious as the non vegan. Wish they had more gluten free options for my sister in law but still a great selection! The service is awesome, they let you try as many flavors as you want before you order and have vegan milkshake options too. It's a cute vibe, though not anywhere to sit but there's a little patio out front and hopefully when it's warmer there will be a seating area because it's super cute. 10/10 would recommend, every time we have a friend visit we bring them here.

Adrian V.

Yelp
I walked in with my boyfriend, we are both Latino! There were 3 boys, 2 white and 1 Latino, the white boys were serving 2 white women and they ignored us, the only one who treated us well was the Latino boy! I thought that white privilege had ended here, but now I see what follows, which seems very bad to me! I will not buy here again they are not inclusive Entré con mi novio, ¡ambos somos latinos!

Kareem H.

Yelp
Gotta try them all! I've almost had every flavor offer this year so far but I love seriously seasonal options

Joseph T.

Yelp
Ice cream in December? Sure, why not? Had a small chocolate on a cone. Their regular creamy ice cream is certainly the way to go. Simple, sweet, and classic. Service is always quick and friendly.

Morlene C.

Yelp
Though the flavors rarely change and the menu remains really compact, I never tire of this ice cream chain that serves some of the best version of chocolate ice cream I've ever had. I can say the same about any of their flavors, which I've enjoyed countless times, from their earl gray, to their honeycomb, and even their bizarre but delightful Kraft mac n cheese flavor. The flavors always taste like the best representation of the source ingredient. This location is a small one, attached to a luxury apartment building in Prospect Heights. There isn't any room to sit inside and no area outside it to enjoy your scoop either. Thankfully ice cream is easily a walk and eat treat, one I don't mind taking to Vanderbilt Avenue, which is often closed in the summer thanks to the Open Streets program.

Eunice C.

Yelp
Love my marionberry cheesecake scoop! They also have some awesome vegan options. They no longer serve hot coffee anymore and are only focusing on ice cream. Grab a pint if you want more ice cream for your buck.

Nichelle W.

Yelp
Delicious delicious delicious. I'm glad backing up half a block was worth it, (In New York for one week and breaking the rules like the rest of them already), anyway like I said it was worth it, I got mom the cookies and cream vegan, because they didn't have regular chocolate or just plain vanilla vegan... I got a strawberry jam swirl vegan concoction and it was delicious.

Ms .T B.

Yelp
Ice cream was great loved the vegan choices , my kids enjoyed theirs aswell trying this place is a must .

Xenia M.

Yelp
I've always been a fan of Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, and have tried their pints from supermarkets, which are always great! This was my first time at one of their in person stores. The service was great and the ice cream did not disappoint. I ordered the mint chip ice cream which was tasty and not overly rich.

Annalisa M.

Yelp
Intimate but delicious ice cream shop near NYU/Washington square park People describe Van Leeuwen as the best ice cream ever! I'm not sure I was convinced by the pumpkin cheesecake (one of November's limited flavors). It was okay, but I will probably stick to the classics in the future. Fortunately, the staff allow you to try the flavors before ordering so don't be afraid to try something new like the Kraft mac and cheese?! The waffle cone was disappointing as well. I'm not fully sold but I'm willing to give them another chance

Kevin C.

Yelp
My friend and I was strolling around the area after dinner looking for dessert and stumbled across this Van Leeuwen. I had their ice cream before in their cute pints so I knew their ice cream was legit but he had never tried it before and only had heard about it. We had the Honeycomb and the Pumpkin Cheesecake flavors both on waffle cones. The honeycomb had such a clean flavor with amazing texture and crunch from the frozen honeycomb bits. The pumpkin cheesecake had a subtle pumpkin note and wasn't overwhelmingly sweet, very interesting ice cream flavor. The waffle cone was surprisingly really fresh and crisp and not your typical stale cone from a Baskin Robbins or wherever. Our server did not look too enthusiastic about working at all however. Ice cream should bring joy to everyone's life but I guess not this staff worker.

Brent L.

Yelp
Needed a little pick me up and this location was right across the street from where I was. I've been off of dairy for a while, so vegan is always harder to find. The variety is great and it's always a great vibe.

Asiye E.

Yelp
I cant say anything about seevice but ice cream is delicious.I suggest pumpkin cheese.

Kelly C.

Yelp
Always choose Van Leeuwen. Van Leeuwen is my favorite ice cream spot. Hands down. I don't know what else to say because they've been my favorite for years and I feel obligated to review the different locations when I remember. My girlfriend and I walked past Ample Hills and thought "we always get Van Leeuwen, let's take advantage of being in front of Ample Hills." So we did and were so disappointed we came to Van Leeuwen anyway. My favorite "classics" are Early Grey and Honeycomb but recently the Praline Butter Cake is really growing on me. This group of their specials, I was obsessed with the Blue Jasmine.

Ginette P.

Yelp
Walking back from the park & ice cream on a nice warm day is always a good idea. We came in & decided to get some ice cream to go .. quarantine rules u must wear a mask while in the store. I got the one scoop Honey comb in the waffle cone, yummmm great flavor just the right amount of sweetness very good. Also tried the Cookies & cream in a waffle cone very good as well .. the waffle cones are great best way to go. Cute small location, service was good / quick , price wise could be a bit cheaper but it's doable.

Francesca M.

Yelp
Van Leeuwen is traditionally a really great ice cream chain throughout New York and Brooklyn. This location is particularly crowded most of the time, and there's only two benches outside to enjoy your ice cream. I think if there were some tables and chairs outside, it would be a more enjoyable experience. There's something about standing in the sun and eating really fast that doesn't appeal to me, so I would recommend going on a week day, or walk a little further to a different place where you can sit and enjoy.

Mike C.

Yelp
The newest Van Leeuwen is now open bright and early, as it is one of their locations serving coffee. If you want ice cream for breakfast though, definitely try the excellent new specials, especially the Brown Butter Rum Raisin, only available at this location. The Tiki Paradise is also a great new one. Yeah it's a few blocks away from Ample Hills, and they will soon be a few blocks away from pretty much every ice cream shop, as they are opening a whopping 5 more locations in the coming months.

Mikhaelle M.

Yelp
Really good ice cream I rlly recommend their chocolate chip brownie ice cream overall

Megan C.

Yelp
I ordered two pints on doordash 2/10 about 10:30 pm. The sealed one was great! The one that was open, due to it being a limited time flavor, vegan lemon creamsicle was not. It definitely had gone bad in some way. It had such a strong sour smell and taste (not the lemon, tasted like curdled milk but i didnt notice any chunks in the one spoon i ate), its hard to describe but it smelled/tasted kind of like alcohol that's how strong the smell coming off it was. Definitely would have given me food poisoning if i ate more than the spoon i did. This was an hour or two before closing. Was this served all day? Having trouble getting in contact with anyone. Want a refund on the $10.

Nicco R.

Yelp
Love this place ! Amazing ice cream ! Great staff ! Nice and clean ! Definitely will be returning ! Thank you !

Jenny Y.

Yelp
Stopped by to grab some ice cream with some friends and tried their seasonal pumpkin cinnamon roll vegan ice cream! The location have a long bench outside to enjoy your ice cream, but I saw people standing around too! The block is closed off to cars which made the space feel even more open. The pumpkin cinnamon roll was pretty good! I enjoyed the pieces of cinnamon roll embedded into the scoops :) They offer so many flavors for both dairy and vegan options that it was difficult to choose! The prices are what you'd expect from these ice cream shops but they do give you a good amount. The location also established Covid protocols (social distancing stickers and wear mask signs) and has apple pay, which I appreciated. The lines moved quickly as well. I would recommend stopping here for ice cream if you're in the area!

Izzy W.

Yelp
Their honey comb and earl grey tea is my favorite. It's very sweet so I usually get a small cup to avoid sugar overload

Taheefa S.

Yelp
I wasn't even aware a Van Leeuwen had opened up in Brooklyn! I don't have a Sweet-tooth and that's exactly why Van Leeuwen is the perfect place for me. It offers a variety of flavors that are acquired for every taste bud and you won't be disappointed. I had the Earl Grey Tea and Brooklyn Brown Sugar; BELIEVE ME IT WAS THE PERFECT COMBINATION! I will be back!

Kenny C.

Yelp
WEAR A MASK! PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING! FLATTEN THE CURVE!!! DONATE PLASMA IF YOU'RE ANTIBODY POSITIVE. DON'T DRINK/INJECT BLEACH. SUPPORT #BLM PROTESTERS. SUPPORT MINORITY-OWNED BUSINESSES. SUPPORT YOUR LGBTQIA BROTHERS AND SISTERS! Not as good/interesting as Ample Hills, but they're open later (past 8 on a Sunday, so the line was out the door, especially with social distancing). I got the mocha cookie crumble since there wasn't really much else out of the ordinary on their menu. Just a bunch of standard flavors done pretty well. And vegan options, if you're one of those. At $5.75 a scoop, I would've rather spent my money across the street, but what can you do?

Lauren L.

Yelp
It's hard out here being vegan-ish. I was stoked when I find this spot and saw their vegan menu. I honestly couldn't even tell the ice cream was vegan! I tried the vegan honeycomb, strawberry jam sundae with vegan whipped cream, chocolate, and walnuts. Customer service could be little more inviting but I'll be returning for another sundae soon.

Sharice S.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this spot by accident due to Ample Hills being closed . The vibe is really cute and the ice cream is rich (non pun intended ) in taste. I had the carrot cake doughnut ice cream. Great choice ‼ If in the area I would go back because who doesn't love good ice cream !

Kristi W.

Yelp
Ice cream is good. Some flavors really great. But if I stand in line for 15 minutes and the flavor I want is sold out, don't tell me the line is too long to put up the sold out sign when other flavors are noted as sold out. "Do you see this line? We don't have time to put signs up." I didn't have time to stand in line if you don't have what I want. Service and attitude need a major adjustment. Don't be lazy, servers, be kind.

Sam L.

Yelp
Vegan ice cream?! My cousin and I were just driving around and this place immediately caught our eyes because they offer vegan and dairy-free options. They also have regular dairy ice cream. The Ice cream here is absolutely amazing but the staff is even better! My cousin and I were just driving around and noticed this spot and decided to to stop in out tracks and give this place a shot. It kind of reminds me of a Ice Cream spot in Downtown Orlando call Greenery Creamery! I wasn't too thrilled to give the vegan ice cream a try, but after giving it a try, I am now a believer. The Vegan Strawberry and the Vegan Vanilla were both out of this world amazing! Their service was awesome and they let you try any flavor you're interested in, and they give you their opinions on each individual flavors as well. So you're sure to make the right decision. The unique options don't stop there - they offer really cool cones. The cheery on top is how they decorated the place, I know my daughters will love it. They DO NOT I repeat DO NOT accept cash so please make sure you bring your card with you!

Symone H.

Yelp
This place is great to enjoy a late dessert or even for a photo op. I had their PB Honeycomb vegan ice cream which I love.

Marlena K.

Yelp
Van Leeuwen is the real deal for vegans and non-vegans at almost 6 dollars a scoop you would hope they deliver some good ice cream and they sure do! They always have special limited edition vegan flavors that seem to either change by location or time. I recommend coming here and grabbing a scoop! They are CASH FREE at all there locations so the only cash that is accepted is for tips!

Elaine M.

Yelp
I'm so happy I found this place! I'm lactose intolerant, so normally I can't eat any time of frozen goodie like this but their vegan ice cream blew me away. I wish it weren't priced differently than the milk based ice cream, but it's pretty worth it. I recommend trying out their seasonal and limited edition flavors. I loved my oat milk based chocolate crunch ice cream!

SI N.

Yelp
Van Leeuwen has pretty good and unique ice cream flavors that will not disappoint you. This place has friendly staff with a few seating indoor. I believe their best flavors are the earl grey tea and the honeycomb. they are also usually open late which is great for someone with a sweet tooth.

Naomi D.

Yelp
** UPDATE ** Van Leeuwen kindly offered me free scoop cards to try again for a better experience. I stopped by with some friends and this time I had the Strawberry Rhubarb Tart. Mmm, mmm it's good! So summery and the chunks are DELISH. They also now have chairs off to the side. It's a sweet new location! *** Stopped into the brand spanking new Van Leeuwen on this chilly April day to check out the new digs and flavors. I had one scoop of the vegan Oat Milk Latte with vegan chocolate fudge in a cone. My friends had the rhubarb and said it was delish. The employee helping us made sure I tried the oat flavors before I settled on them so I knew they were a slightly different texture -- not a problem for me because I'm used to vegan ice cream. My taste test of the latte flavor tasted pretty strongly of coffee, but for some reason lost most of that flavor in the cone. The other oat flavor was also just fine. I feel like Van Leeuwen flavors have been generally lacking in hard-hitting flavor. None of them really pack the flavor punch that they need to really stand out. The new space is nice and big with a group of tables off to the side. The employee who helped our group of 3 was very courteous, while the other two sat off to the side talking and on their phones... Not the best service from those two (I believe one was the manager) plus the generally blah flavors resthe 3 stars. Unfortunate because I do love my Van Leeuwen!

Estela S.

Yelp
It's great. A little overpriced, I understand pricing it up due to quality ingredients but I feel like some pricing is due to the cache/popularity of this place now. Nonetheless, we've been here a few times.

Amette N.

Yelp
So excited about this new location its the perfect spot with additional space inside and out! Stop by today for some vegan peanut butter chocolate chip ran in and out with no real waiting required the team inside was ready to assisted everyone who came into the store.

Camille A.

Yelp
So I've been looking for a place that has dairy free/vegan ice cream options and I have found my new spot in NYC. This place is great and has tons of options. If you are indecisive , they let you try the different options before purchasing to make sure that you are making the right decision. You can get the different flavors in either a waffle cone or a cup. I opted for the cup. There are many different locations all over NYC. The service was fast and efficient. They also sell the ice cream by the pint if you want to take some home with you to store in the freezer. They only take cards so remember that there is no cash accepted at this location. Cashless is a new movement a lot of businesses are taking up. Anywho , I would 100% recommend this place to every and anyone.

Sonny V.

Yelp
Ordered Affogato and she drowned my ice cream in espresso. The espresso should not be so much it makes the ice cream float. Plus the grinds where inside as well. I thought she powdered it with cocoa. But it was coffee grinds. I've been here three times ordered the same thing. This was the worst affogato I've ever had. Normally it's very pleasant.
