Vanderbilt Ave Wine Merchants

I have been searching for a specific sake for months. It’s rarely sold in the US. After calling many shops and checking online, I found it on Vanderbilt Ave’s website. I shipped two bottles as a gift, and unfortunately one came very slightly damaged. After reaching out to customer support with photos, they were very quick to respond and send another bottle to me. Sake was incredible and top tier customer support!

It’s so cute! You can tell every wine in the store was selected for a reason—it feels very thoughtful! The staff makes great recommendations. There are also sake options and some cocktail ingredients.

This place is so great! I'm a relocated New Yorker and don't have access to all this beautiful natural wine in North Carolina. I called the store and Jake helped put together a fantastic case of wine to ship. His suggestions were wonderful, and the passion, enthusiasm, and friendliness made this a superb experience. Can't wait to visit the store in person.

Small but high quality selections in range of prices. Found some not easy to find wines. Also great service which is a luxury these days.

We've been to all the wineries, and we've loved them all, but the blueberry and blackberry in this wine shop were our favorite two! Bailey is so helpful and, like their wines, sweet! He also well defined the wines. Next time we're in town, we'll be back again and recommend them to all of my mates.

The staff at VWM are very nice and helpful. I went twice this year. Once to pickup a red wine for a recipe and to pick up a bottle right before Thanksgiving. I called and asked for recommendations for which bottle would be good for the recipe I was making and felt that the I was given a knowledgable recommendation (which surprisingly was on the cheap end). The second time I went for Thanksgiving there was a bit of a line, but not very long. They took the time to give recommendations but since I wanted to grab and go, I looked at their site and asked for the bottle I wanted. You can also order online and pickup in person.

Excellent collection of wine and knowledgeable staff makes for a great experience. I've been a member of their wine club for years and it has been absolutely great.

I recently moved to the Prospect Heights neighborhood, so this is my new go-to wine shop. During shutdown, they have made picking up wine extremely easy and socially distanced. They have a great variety of natural wines (my current obsession). I have yet to be disappointed with my experiences here!

The staff helps customers at the window, for covid safety (it's such a small store), and I'm always amazed at how endlessly patient and helpful they are as they make recommendations and help you find the right bottle. I know a few things I like, but I definitely don't have a ton of wine knowledge. I usually describe what I think I want or I tell them I'll be eating it with, and they bring over 3 bottles and describe them, and then they'll go back for more options if needed. I've also been surprised and grateful for how many options they have in the $15 ballpark, which I didn't expect for a tiny store with such a great selection in this neighborhood. I love this place so much!!!!

Vanderbilt Wine Merchants is the "new" Passage de la Fleur and just like its pint-sized (Guys. Couldn't help myself!!) predecessor, it's a great spot to pick up natural/bio/pet'nat wines--excellent selection, many many affordable bottles and the staff are friendly and super knowledgable. I'm especially a fan because this tiny, local-owned spot stands directly across the street from the goliath COOKFOX-built (they really use all caps for their name) luxury housing structure, 550 Vanderbilt http://550vanderbilt.com/amenities/--just one of the several giant, glass condo complexes that have risen up post-Ratner and are decidedly impacting the old-timey, low density living to be had in Fort Greene/Clinton Hill/Prospect Heights. You guys. Did you know that this...um...dwelling comes with its own park? Yup. "Pacific Park". Because Prospect Park is obviously a bit too far, all of 10 blocks away. Who knows how our neighborhoods will change in the coming years as a result of these massive glass-encased communities? (Although west Williamsburg does offer a few urban planning lessons learned.) Maybe our streets will be lined with Diamond-Encrusted Shopping Malls and Helipads will replace Citibike stands but until then, I'll raise a glass filled with wine from VWM and hope that it, along with its fellow Vanderbilt Ave-small-store cohort, stays anchored and Brooklyn-strong.

easily the best and most unique wine selection in the borough, with a focus much more on quality bottles, specializing in natural, biodynamic, and quirky wines. The staff is thoughtful, helpful, friendly and give great recommendations.

Keeping the legacy alive where Passage left off. Greg is great. He broadened the selection, stayed true to the mission and added a more (even more) casual and fun vibe. I come well out of my way to go here.

This place is a bit on the small side, so there isn't a vast selection, but what they do have seems to be really quite awesome, especially if you're into more natural wine. I stopped in here because I was going to be hanging out with someone who is a bit of a wine snob and I wanted something that would impress her. I don't know a whole lot about wine myself, but the girl in the store was very helpful and gave me a few suggestions. I went with one of her suggestions, a pretty inexpensive ($16) bottle of french wine called red noz, and it was totally a hit. I would definitely recommend this place and I'm sure I will go back soon for more.

Wonderful selection of natural and organic wines from friendly proprietor, Greg. I don't have a big budget for wine and the staff here are always happy to help me find an inexpensive bottle that suits my taste (they don't make me feel judged for not wanting to spend a lot like some places do). I also appreciate their labelling system of little cards with simple tasting notes, which is very helpful for a non-expert like me. Oh and they stock some amazing dry (actually dry) and funky ciders, including one from northern Spain -- my favorite.

I've been in here about 5 times, and I have loved every single experience. Matthew and Ryan are so kind and knowledgeable about their selection. I usually walk in unsure of what I want, and these guys have steered me towards an amazing wine that's in my price range each time. Plus they have a system that will keep track of what you buy, so if you can't remember which bottles you have gotten in the past, they can look it up. I can't see myself going to any other wine store in the future, because this place has definitely set such a high standard. 5 stars isn't enough.
