After finding fame on Masterchef in 2010 as a runner-up, chef Alex Rushmer took over the Hole in the Wall, a country pub in Little Wilbraham, which, in a happy twist of fate, was previously owned by the family of Dom’s Coffee founder Domenico O’Neill. Having now closed the pub and established himself on Mill Road with Vanderlyle, Rushmer has become a strong, compassionate voice for evolving hospitality culture for the better, and his restaurant signals that intention. The elegantly bountiful dishes focus on fruits and vegetables, making Vanderlyle a sort of East Anglian analog to California chef Jeremy Fox’s ideas. We had an amazing evening at Vanderlyle enjoying the tasting menu. The atmosphere was warm and relaxed, with excellent service throughout. Every course was creative, varied, and full of flavour - The oyster mushrooms were a standout for us, and the lemon sorbet was incredible. They also adapted the menu for gluten intolerance without any fuss - amazing gf brioche too! Highly recommend for anyone looking for a sublime dining experience!

Dining at Vanderlyle is an amazing experience and such a privilege. My partner and I have been 4 times in the last 7 months, and every time we are blown away by the food, atmosphere, and service. We have celebrated our 30th birthdays and our engagement here at the pass, as well as dining during the changing seasons to experience the seasonal menus. I cannot fault this place - the food is absolutely unbelievable: the menu is so creative, and whether it’s something completely novel or something you’ve had before, every bite feels like the best version you’ve tasted of what’s on the plate. We plan to keep coming at least once a quarter to try the seasonal menu, but make sure you set your alarm for a table as they sell out fast! Our favourite restaurant ever!

Start to finish we could not fault a thing and a week in and we are still buzzing and I just can't wait to go again. My fiancé and I have visited Vanderlyle many times over the span of about 5 years. Everytime we are so impressed and have a lovely experience. I am gluten free and they accommodate my dietary requirements well, providing a gf menu that either closely mirrors or is identical to the regular non-gf menu with absolutely no fuss. The food is always so creative and the standard of cooking is always a given every time we visit. The photos are a selection of the dishes and menus we've had over the years

A really lovely meal. The menu was imaginative, everything super fresh, local and seasonal and extremely well executed. The service was friendly with well informed and helpful staff. The matched drink pairings, both the wine and soft drink options, worked very well. Highly recommended!

Amazing dishes! We really enjoyed our dinner. Star of the day was the squash soup that was very thick and flavourful, and the bucatini! Deserts were amazing, too

Fantastic meal, thoroughly enjoyable experience to see the calmness of the open kitchen. Lovely touch to have the chefs/patron deliver one of the dishes to the table and explain their creation. The cashew parfait with brioche was incredible.
