"The second branch of the Lower East Side dumpling stall has an expanded menu, including a handful of Japanese dishes. Chinese dumplings are still the most important offering, whether stuffed with meat, seafood, or vegetables. The pork dumplings in spicy sauce with a splash of sesame paste are one of the best things, or go for one of the wedge-shaped sandwiches on sesame bread, which top out at $6." - Robert Sietsema

Very affordable fresh dumpling and dough related indulgence that opens late. They have perfects making the pan fried dumplings. Can get very busy at times which means all 15 tables will be taken up. It's counter service so there may not be someone who clean the table after you build some good karma and take your tray to the trash area (by the door) when you are done.

I got the roast pork sesame pancake and it is as good as everyone said it is. It’s huge and super affordable. I’m gonna pass on the pork and chives pot stickers though. Skin is too thick and burned. The filling is also meh, taste too much like soy sauce.

I wasn’t really impressed by Vanessa’s at all. I have heard good things from friends, but I’m not sure where those good things were when I got there. They messed up part of our order, but we didn’t really feel like arguing to change it because the pricing worked out the same way anyway. The both the dumplings we actually ordered, and the dumplings that were given to us wrongfully were very average. I liked the boiled pork and chive dumplings better than the fried dumplings, but neither was close to outstanding. Also, the prices weren’t that great either. Chinatown has much better dumplings at exponentially better prices than what Vanessa’s has to offer. With all of that said, I have heard that the sesame pancakes are really good. I had originally ordered one of them, so I didn’t get the chance to try them. I’m definitely willing to go back and try them, and adjust my review accordingly, because I feel like I missed out on a key component of this restaurant.

For the price? Great. got pork dumplings, buns, and a sesame pancake for $5.25. Can you get better dumplings in the same neighborhood? Definitely. I would wanna see if their $3.50 bubble tea is good.

The food is below average. We ordered spicy dumplings (assorted) and dumpling noodle soup. The soup had no flavor. Dumplings were ok and I was quite disappointed given the restaurant focuses on dumplings and it has over 1000 ratings on Google. The worst part of our experience was the they serve everything in plastic even for eating in! How do you expect people to eat noodle soup out of a to-go plastic container?

So cheap and so good. Sesame pancake is always a win. Also try the wontons or dumplings in spicy sauce, if you dig spicy dumplings. This place gets busy so be prepared to wait 20 or so mins for to go food.

These were absolutely terrible dumplings - super doughy and near flavourless. (I got the chives and pork, and shrimp dumplings.) I must say, I was surprised and disappointed by the ‘best dumpling chain in the city’. The service was fine, and reminded me of Beijing dumpling houses, actually. Two stars for the sesame pancakes, which were actually quite good.

Awesome dumpling place in NYC!! Satisfies both the pocket and the stomach. Must try the platter of veg, shrimp, chicken and pork. Their sweet chilli sauce is something to die for and sooo yumm!! Don't miss the sesame pancake. Be prepared to wait in line coz it's crowded most of the time. All the more reason to go ;)
