Top Philly Clubs and Lounges to Dine and Drink | Eater Philly

"This sizeable restaurant and lounge, spanning over 8000 square feet, features rooftop seating (earning its rightful designation as a skybar), a menu full of bites such as wings, mussels, nachos, and quesadillas, along with cocktails. It offers top-tier hookah service and hosts weekly DJs and dance events every Friday." - George Banks-Weston

Vango Lounge And Skybar - Review - Rittenhouse - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Located a few blocks away from Rittenhouse Square and open daily from 5pm-2am, Vango Lounge and Skybar is a good place to begin or end your night at. They have a full-service bar and a menu that includes wings, burgers, shareable meals like a leg of lamb, and even a few desserts. Usually, there’s a DJ in the venue blasting the latest hip-hop or EDM, but if you’re not in a dancing mood, you can just recline like you’re in a Renaissance painting on one of their white king-sized day beds on the rooftop and look up at city's skyscrapers." - Candis R. So, my servers weren't rude, like a lot of the other reviews say, they were just inattentive. I had to frequently wait for someone to make rounds to ask for more drinks or dessert.. Eh.. the food/drinks.. The drinks were small, the food portion size was small, and they came out in small plastic cups and plastic containers. The food was good. I just don't think the experience was worth the drive from NJ, and the parking garage fees. We also had to pay 20$ per person as a cover to get in. It wasn't a crowded Saturday night. Anyway, It was very nice inside and the music was also nice. I just think I could've spent my money elsewhere. It was a nice experience, but I don't think i'll be back.

Really pretty atmosphere. I really enjoyed the vibe here. Staff were nice and the drinks and food were good but the baklava was amazing. I usually don’t even like baklava but theirs was really good. It’s a perfect summer time spot. Will be returning.

My experience here was good the vibes were there the music was great and the aesthetic was nice. Our server was very kind and he came to checked on us multiple times while we were there the food came out in a timely manner and was presented nicely we did have to pay a $10 cover charge which is ridiculous to me because this place is presented as a restaurant. But I ran into 2 problems 1 the food was super mid I had the lamb and rice and the lamb was unseasoned but the rice was very good my sister had the scampi and was very underwhelmed. Problem 2 when it was time to pay the bill I informed the server that I had paid the $75 deposit prior to coming he shook his head as if he understood then continued to charge our card for the price on the bill. After 10 minutes he came back and the problem seemed to be fixed. But later that night we noticed that one of the cards was charged 3 times almost equalling to almost $230. I understand mistakes happen it was loud so it’s possible that he didn’t hear about the deposit but to be charged 3 times after the fact and to not be informed about it was ridiculous.

The food was delish and service was quick and efficient. i got the strawberry patron margarita and it was tasty. I went on a week day and it was pretty early so it was nearly empty when i first got there but the top floor was filling up quickly as the day went along. it was a nice vibe

Our time spent here was great! The food is surprisingly delicious and the drinks were great. We also had hookah which was reasonably priced and really good! There was a cover charge at the door, which was weird, but whatever. We had a nice lounge experience.

This should be called a Club, Bar, anything but a Lounge or Restaurant! Huge SCAM NO CITY VIEWS THEY HAVE THE TERRANCE covered with white boards so you can’t see anything, No city views like in the old pictures, probably was nice at some point, but that was last decade the place is in shambles now! They don’t take reservations ok It’s was my Birthday so I was looking for a restaurant with a view since I had guests from out of town. There was a $20 cover PP, I’m new to town and trying to find something else with my guests 7 standing at the door, I gave in. I asked the guy at the door charging is this a restaurant? Ppl where dressed in club attire, he said yes. Asked are they tables he just said first come. Well we where already there. We go in no tables first floor big dance floor tho, the only table is in front stairs on the top floor, so we ask to sit outside. We are told it is bottle service only $300 After back and forth In so embarrassed my guests are trying to say it’s ok, but I give in get a bottle. No other tables outside around us have bottles. They scammed us! Music was horrible worst mumble Rap all night the DJ is so bad. Not even going to talk about the bathroom....NEVER AGAIN!!!

When you're not from somewhere and you're looking for a place to go, you always ask the locals. This time we asked our lyft driver on the way home from dinner. . and she failed us. We get to the door & we were told $10 for a cover. When it comes to clubs that you can't even see / hear the "fun" happening inside. . you're kind of sketch and questionable. So we walk away and went to walk into a nearby bar. My friend goes outside for a phone call and the security guard told her that we can get in for free. So okay. . We walk up the stairs and hear music, cool. We get to the top and well, the question "where is everyone". For us to be pushed for a cover charged .. whew. Then, when we were trying to get on the roof. . the security guard said "you must buy a drink" in order to go LOL. what? okay. My friend bought a drink. . $14 for crown and coke. . that was maybe like 6oz. A waste. . he then went upstairs and it was EMPTY. . no one. So basically what we got from this place is that 1) it's not popping 2) security guards try to scam you 3) the bar is a scam. . but 4) decor was nice. Will not be returning.

Yelp
I was visiting and saw an eventbrite link for this spot and decided to check it out with my friend. It was free before 10 with the eventbrite link. We were able to get a decent table on the rooftop also around this time. The service was amazing. Our waiter Asan was very attentive! We ordered food and drinks and got everything in less than 30 minutes. I ordered lemon pepper wings and Spanish fries and everything was really good. My friend ordered shrimp Alfredo and said the pasta was seasoned well also. The manager was also very friendly and checked on us. The Dj was decent for the most part. The hookah was ok for the first 45 minutes then started to get that burnt taste but overall I would come back here for the vibes.

Yelp
My group ended up here by accident as we were nearby and just looking for a place that was open for a quick drink. We went on a weekday so there wasn't any sort of entry fee. I liked that there was a rooftop. The servers were attentive and a couple people got apps. Everything was overpriced. It is likely a fine hookah bar, but I just didn't love the ambiance. It just wasn't what we were expecting and just wasn't that casual. It clearly has more of a club vibe which wasn't for us.

Yelp
I'm visiting Philly for the weekend and found Vango as a suggestion on tik tok for nightlife. We arrived close to midnight on Friday June 3, 2022 and they charged us $20 for cover entry (male and female). They also told us that there were no more people allowed in the rooftop so we had to stay in the inside. We ordered regular the hookah which was $29 and I ordered two long islands which were about $10 each. They were pretty strong but the cups were small so I wasn't as tipsy as I would usually be from two long islands. The drinks were good though and the ambiance of there establishment was as very nice. Very cute, plenty of places to sit as well. The bathrooms were a little small inside of the stall but just get in and out lol. I was really impressed with the hookah as it was veryyyyy smooth and the hookah man did a great job changing out the coals for us without being asked. The only cons I would say is having to pay ti get in without having the benefits of the rooftop access (although they said it was full to capacity). Also the music was just decent. I'm from Texas so maybe I'm just a bit picky but they didn't play a lot of new songs and a lot of the songs seemed like they were from a 2000's playlist. But overall the establishment was very nice.

Yelp
DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! $20 CASH cover, that they don't mention at any point during your reservation nor do they have an ATM. We had to go down a block in the rain to find an ATM we could use. Security makes rude disrespectful comments. We had to pay a $75 reservation fee and they didn't even ask us our names until the end. We paid a cover charge for plastic cups and all of our food came in plastic baskets. The drinks were okay in their plastic cracked cups. The DJ was subpar, we saw the server four times. He refilled drinks and charges us without asking. The bathrooms were actually laughable.. I'm 5'9" and the toilet paper holder was above my head STANDING.. this place was a MESS

Yelp
*sigh* my last time I'll listen to anyone's recommendation without without doing my research... Why do bars (not nightclubs) charge a cover charge?....$20. I'm from out of town so I'm thinking this place would be really nice for a $20 entry fee. No. We went to the rooftop but the city view was blocked by decorated walls. We wanted to get a table with bottle service but we noticed the waiter was quoting a higher price to us and a lower price to other groups. I just want my $20 back! LOL
google avatar

Starlyn L.

Yelp
Very tacky, drinks are expensive and not worth its price. The atmosphere, energy and everything about this place was very ghetto. Over priced for no reason. The service was okay but that's about it. There is no care into this place at all. They have a nerve to want a $20 COVER CHARGE out of you when the interior of the place is a mess. Tacky and ratchet!

Yelp
After I searched for quite some time to locate the Vango Lounge & Skybar, not because they are a mere door with a large sign in large orange letters that read VANGO over it, but because I am not good with directions. "LOL!" The exercise was alright. Anyway, I went to open the door when a large African American male previously preoccupied on his phone stopped me. He said he needed to see ID and needed to check my bag. I carry large pocketbooks with a lot of items, stuff and things, so when he repeated to me several times that I had a lot of stuff and things in my pocketbook I wasn't surprised. Plus I didn't give him a hard-way-to-go because I knew that he could have refused me entry because I had a large pocketbook. MY BAD In business things can change in a matter of seconds, so when I got through the door after being frisked and told to go to the roof, I was greeted by a large man who looked foreign. He told me that the downstairs was closed and I was to go upstairs. I didn't give him a hard-way-to-go either because I was in the middle of changing a part of my attire when he approached. Also pulling my pocketbook back together. I reach the upstairs bar lounge and was greeted by a waitress. She asked me if I wanted to sit outside or inside. I started to take a seat inside, but when I went to sit down she told me that the table I chose was reserved and I could sit at the bar. I declined the bar and chose to sit outside? ~Skybar Lounge~ The skybars' lounge atmosphere was twinkly. I was glad that it wasn't very crowded and the music was not loud or full of bass. It was a horrible selection though. The tables were a little small and if the place got packed you would be cramped. A waiter came by at one point and wiped, very briskly, a table or two. I imagined that was why the tables looked as if there was paper stuck to them with old information on them. I was told by my waitress that the place was now under new management. There was a trash can that had debris around it, but I didn't concern myself with that. My waitress, I thought, was very gracious. She recommended drinks, hookah flavors and foods. We discussed how to add the 18% to the total bill and I was ready to enjoy my night. Still like it says; "If something can go wrong it will." I ordered 2 drinks. One tasted like a punch, which it was, but had very little alcohol in it. I am no lush, but a $14-$18 drink should give a buzz - even if it is just a little one. The other drink was FANTASTIC! It had the right amount of tequila mixed in with the other flavors and a swollow was good, good and good. Unfortunately, these drinks were served, to me, in small plastic cups. Cups that you would give to a child. I noticed that other patrons has their drinks served in glasses. The kind that you would get if you weren't supplying half your drink to the strange man sitting at the bar that watched you drink, hookah and eat the entire time you stayed at the lounge. This could have just been my imagination. I then ordered a hookah, which I was told lasted about 2 hours, if I wanted to mix and match flavors I could up to 3 with no extra fees and orange mint is not one flavor, but 2; althought, the scanned QR code menu reads it as 1. The hookah was nice. I am a newbie so me getting a little dizzy was not to be exprected or expected. I'll leave that up to any replies I get on this review to tell me if I should have been. I did get a new set of flavors after about an hour that I was told there was no charge for. I then received my 6 piece of wing-dings. Almost every restaurant advertises wing-dings as chicken wings, THEY ARE NOT. Then again I wonder If I gave the other pieces of my so called chicken wings to the strange man sitting at the bar that watched me drink, hookah and eat the entire time I stayed at the lounge. I repeat, This could have just been my imagination. They were quite tasty, well cooked and the dipping sauces, there were 2, were also quite tasty. I stayed at the lounge about 2 hours, give or take and was asked, prior to ordering, if I wanted to start a tab or pay now. I decided on the pay now option. Since I ordered one thing after another I had several receipts. I didn't concern myself with that until I got the final receipt. My final receipt had my 2 drinks priced, my hookah price, my chicken wing/wing-ding price, the gratuity price and then I noticed 3 other prices. For a grand total of, I won't say, but I will say that I will not be returning to be overcharged for a meal with drinks and hookah that was clearly less then $50 Well, that is my experience and review of the Vango Skybar Lounge. If anyone reads this befor the pictures are posted check back I should have them up for viewing.

Yelp
Music was amazing. Cute lounge. I just wish there was more of an unobstructed view if the city.

Yelp
Decent hookah bar in a great area. They have rooftop seats and nice lounge ambience. There was a line and there is a cover ($10) but hey it's Saturday night what do you expect. Plus place was packed! Hookah was great, not exactly the flavor I asked for but it was smooth and came out reasonably quick. The drinks were strong but also expensive! Not a cheap place but not overly expensive either. The lemon pepper wings were 5 star worthy! Great crispy wings with just the right amount of seasoning. Music also was on point all night! Good job DJ Overall I'd come back! And I'd recommend

Yelp
A section was for my birthday and family was booked and it was completely ignored! They decided to sit us on the roof in 40 degree weather! On top of us spending 2k on the rooftop it just seems as if they wanted to ignore the fact that we reserved a section! By the time we got downstairs there was no service from servers and the Dj was packing up his equipment It was a complete waste of my time and family's As well as the fact that I was celebrating my birthday was completely embarrassed and disappointed I will never go to vango again

Yelp
Service was disgusting to say the least. No city views at all! Hookah as watered down and that's after two attempts! Then while leaving and trying to find my way out; some bouncer rudely tells me it's private party....... Instead of helping me get out. Then I tell him I am leaving or trying to leave to find the exit; he tells me to leave then. The place had more empty chairs then people. This is after making a reservation and then getting there and the outside bouncer attempting to tell me it's a private party. Going in; we saw multiple staff who gave us no direction on where to go or where to sit...... even calling the place before hand ; the person on the phone was rude; answering the phone like he was home. Never again ......

Yelp
i have been here plenty of times before but this time was the worst i have EVER experienced. i was stepping out for a friends birthday. so i'm sitting at the bar and the bartender went in and out of the bar area without slightly even speaking to us. after about ten mins i started calling the bartender that's when she rudely said we ain't serving people at the bar you gotta go to a table. ok so my first thought was why didn't anyone say that and or why isn't there a sign that says that on the bar??? but ok i sit at a table and still nobody comes over so i flag down the manager and complain. so he says he would have someone serve us and it ended up being him. i asked for two cosmopolitans and a bottle of water. the total came to 31 dollars no biggy. when he bought these plastic cups out i was pissed. why would i come downtown and get a hood bar services i asked for a glass. the manager said oh we don't have any.... ok yeah so i drank my drink and i left with no plans on ever returning. i also advised the two people who would have been patrons not to go in and seek a better place for a better vibe.

Yelp
I really had to dig through the prior reviews before writing mine because I wanted a solid justification for contributing my own two stars to this two star bar. Going back as far as 2015 in the reviews I found that perhaps some things have changed at Vango and some definitely have not. Here are some differences I found when I visited Sunday, May 27th for my cousins birthday: The bouncers were pleasant towards my party, we did not pay a cover, my out of state license was not an issue, our server was sweet and our sushi and the dj were both good and I was given water when I wanted it. The practices that they continue to employ is what keeps this place at the bottom. The whole buy a drink to get to the rooftop where there is already a bar is still in full effect and the drinks are still ridiculously overpriced and not particularly potent. The whole chip thing is also still going on and cost me an extra 8.50 to withdraw from the bank across the street. When you go out to a night club you want to be delighted not annoyed and inconvenienced with rules that don't make any damn sense. I never made it to the sky bar and I'm working on getting that 8.50 fee back lol.

Yelp
Second time here in months, first you are charging on a Saturday $20 as if your a club selling. Paid to get in and it's literally a restaurant setting.. when establishment does things like this you target communities and it's the black communities to be exact. I'm paying $100 for 5 to sit down and pay again. This needs to be said at the door!

Ayana R.

Yelp
My google review " I will never visit this place again! The manager was rude as soon as we walked in and checked out IDs multiple times throughout our time there. The food was undercooked and the fries were over seasoned my friends glass of water tasted like someone's leftover margarita. Then the rude manager came to our table and HARASSED US and forced us to show him our purses while judging and STEALING items we had purchased before even coming into the establishment. Our waitress was nice but I would still not recommend anyone go here. "

Yelp
Great service and amazing music. The drinks are good and hookah is smooth. I love it here

Yelp
It's not crowded yet service is very slow. The DJ is decent most of the time. They charge 10- 20.00 at the door and they have two floors with a bar on each floor, however if you're going from level one to two(which opens after 11:30/12 midnight you need to have a drink in your hand. The upstairs is nice however your charged 18% gratuities for salty fries(can't eat them without an overwhelming feeling of salt overload). Maybe this is a local spot, good for groups and dancing but not really a great atmosphere. Esp when the girls start taking their shoes off and twerking with underwear showing lol

Yelp
Rolled into Vango after getting a tip from the bartendress at the other spot we were at a few doors down from Vango. Our bartendress, Lauren, I believe that's her name, directed us here so we could chill and listen to some music Hip Hop 'til you drop in the bar/lounge area where most of the younger locals were hanging. The upstairs rooftop bar, which I guess is called Skybar, offers nice scenic city views, with beds available to be reserved with the addition of bottle service. As an alternate, comfortable benches and chairs were also available. Chilled. Danced. Drank. Enjoyed the view, music and drinks. No complaints.

Roman L.

Yelp
The security at the door charges you $20 for no reason. It's a hookah lounge/ restaurant. Why am I paying a cover charge to sit at a table to pay for everything when I get inside. Made a reservation they charged me $150, I got there the day of my reservation and they were not expecting me. I showed them the receipt and they still tried to act like there was a "error in the system". This place is corny and poorly ran. Great staff no complaints and a fun DJ. But whoever in charge needs to be fired because they're failing this business. Vango is overrated.
google avatar

Olivia K.

Yelp
Asked for a drink 3 times before finally getting the wrong one (over the span of an hour and a half). A hookah was left in the walk way and I ended up burning myself on it, they then charged me $100 plus a 20% tip because they said it was broken. I tried to work it out with them and talk to them about what happened but they were very rude about the whole situation. Also there is a $20 cover charge. Left feeling like I had been majorly scammed.

Uneka H.

Yelp
I've been here several times and I always have a great time when I go! The music is just right-just the type of music I'm looking for ranging from hip-hop and R&B to "Trap" music. The bartenders and waitresses have always been attentive and the crowd is always pretty cool but can be a lot younger sometimes depending on the day that you go. Downstairs when you first walk in is an open area with the dance floor and main bar. On the side are small sections (I'm assuming VIP) for drinks and hookah. Once again, depending on the night it can get to be super crowded in here. Upstairs is the roof top where it's a different DJ but it's a lot more room to breath and there are fire lamps upstairs if you go during the colder months. Overall, I've had fun on both my visits here and really couldn't find anything negative to say about this place!

Yelp
I wish I would've listened to all the horrible reviews before I went firstly let's start with the $30 COVER CHARGE??? I didn't see anyone else complain about 30 maybe $20 or $10 but $30? Ridiculous and on top of that one of the guys outside was so rude and made us feel like we shouldn't even go in. Secondly the service there is horrible the girls just get you seated and then you need to flag them down and get ignored or get attitude when you ask for something (18% tip included btw so I'm guessing this is why they don't care if they're rude) it took me around 15 minutes just to get my receipt and an additional 20 to get my card and ID back. Definitely will not be returning to this scam of a business oh also I almost forgot what's the point of having a "rooftop lounge" if it's covered by a tent. Waste of money and time go literally ANY WHERE else for a better and cheaper time.
google avatar

Alexis A.

Yelp
Whewww Chile... the ghetto . This place is overpriced and beyond corny. Save yourself the money and time. I will never think about coming here again. Yesterday was my first and last time. The place is nice but the vibes here are just weird . Food menu was limited . Drinks were ok but overpriced. The worst part of it all is... in order to access the rooftop you MUST order a drink from the bar on the lower level. Mind you... there's a bar on the rooftop. Views were a 2 on a scale of 1-5. You really only see the liberty place buildings. This really isn't a rooftop. Music was cool. Tbh that's the only reason why I gave them 1 star. "It's a no for me, dawg"

Yelp
Cover charge on a Monday evening??!! Haven't been in but going by the other reviews doesn't seem like much.
google avatar

Zareena M.

Yelp
Overpriced, i was charged $14 for a vodka sprite & $14 for a REGULAR PLAIN SPRITE Must have a drink in your hand to access the roof, which barely has a view Music on roof is nonexistent Bottle girls are frumpy, unenthusiastic, legit walk you over the bottle and walk away, no smiles nothin that shit aint even held in the air lmaooo, save your money. All of the workers are super inexperienced, it shows DJ could be better Never packed, if someone says otherwise they lyin

Yelp
This place is a scam, it smells like an ashtray inside and it's not a skybar

Yelp
Boringgggggg DJ sucks! Music sucks! Food sucks ! We paid for a whole table, got hookah, drinks and food. The security guard tried to tell us that we couldn't go to the roof top because we did not have a drink in our hand. After explaining to him multiple times that we paid $200 for our table like 10 minutes ago he still would not let us in. I spoke with our waiter and she told him to let us up but we won't be able to get back upstairs if we leave the area. After going up stairs on the roof we found out that there was no music up there so we wasted our time even going up there. I would not recommend coming here.

Yelp
Visiting Philly for a quick overnight, I was looking for a place with a rooftop and possibly good music and a vibe. We arrived at VANGO, paid a 20$ cover and made our way inside. The security/doorman was nice, which helps. We went upstairs to the main floor but I really wanted to check out the rooftop. Well, the roof left more to be desired. Nothing like the rooftop pics on their site and they had 1,000 card playing tables with hookahs set up so it felt even more claustrophobic outside than inside. The drinks were poorly made and way too strong, but I know some like that. Nonetheless, we danced a bit and left after about an hour, considering it took about 30 minutes to order a drink at the bar, we didn't party much.

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Would NEVER go back there, they take your card and license up front when your sitting at a table with a waitress. The waitress took her time with the check, I paid cash on the table, and they still ran the card. When calling to get situation resolved, they accused us of not paying. We asked them to run their cameras back and they said they don't see us paying which is a lie!!! We left the money under the receipt on table and notified the waitress that we did so.. horrible experience

Yelp
Random folks and I stumbled into a friend on Thursday night. He invited us all to Vango's rooftop lounge. Upstairs, after making it past security, we took in the fantastic view of One and Two Liberty Place, and relaxed in the nighttime weather. The DJ wasn't bad, and kept folks dancing. Unsure of the exact details, including pricing, but someone reserved a bed, so we sat, talked, and enjoyed bottle service until closing time. Our server[1] was so outstanding that she came over to mix us shots - including key lime pies and pineapple upside down cakes - after she realized we weren't knocking back those bottles as fast as we could have been. I wouldn't mind returning to the rooftop. While lots of folks were smoking (and there were lots of folks there, even for a Thursday), the whole BEING OUTDOORS thing does mitigate the stink. Your mileage may vary, but I had a good time. [1] I managed to stutter her name correctly, but I won't even try to spell it. I think it started with an "E".

Yelp
I randomly popped into Vango by chance last night with my girlfriends. Upon walking in I was immediately taken by the set up of the bar, it was beautiful. In the center of the bar there was this amazing chandelier of glasses. In addition, they have this huge rooftop deck with an amazing view AND heaters!!!! The music was great, food (spicy tuna and cheeseburger) delicious, drinks strong, and such friendly staff. I couldn't have asked for more on my night out. Can't wait for my best friend to visit me so I can bring her here! PS if you want to get really wild, try the zombie!

Yelp
Amazing new place in Philly. Friend of a Friend. Sure, they copied 'Bed' for the upstairs, but hey, these days, who isn't? Amazing food. The Seared Kobe, Sushi, Sashimi, Scallop/Prawn are all amazing. The drinks are wicked strong. The music is perfect. Very upbeat, not overpowering, perfect for talking, dancing, flirting, everything. Highly recommended for groups of 6+. Eat first, dance and drink throughout the evening. Can't wait for next spring when the weather warms up.

Yelp
Never. Ever. Again. Not only that. But I'm finding out who the owner is. And never go to any other place they are affiliated with. So many rules. Half poured drinks. If you can't afford to run a place. Close. But don't pinch someone who decided to try your place for every dime. Can't go upstairs without a drink. Only bottled water after 9. Only cards with chips and only with ID. S many rules I thought I was in prison. I'm surprised they didn't charge to use the restroom. F this place. I still tipped the waitress but told her since it was not her fault.

Yelp
I would rate this as an "F". My friend and I went for her birthday. We don't drink that much so we ordered two drinks and a hooka. Multiple people came over to us after like 30 mins to an hour ruching us to get more drinks. Then had the AUDACITY to say we've been sitting here for an hour without ordering another drink after we didn't even have our second round of coal or whatever it's called for our hooka. THEN told other customers we were leaving in a half and the customers decided to sit with us at our table. After I complained and CURSED the manager out he made them leave and apologized. THEN we ordered another drink and left. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. I'm confused because it's a LOUNGE for a reason. I guess COVID-19 has these businesses scared cuz I'm confused! Tf. Side bar: AND WE PAID A $20 cover charge! Tf

Yelp
They are definitely taking ever COVID precautions. I love the plastic throwable utensils it is safe and COVID friendly. They re-coil the hookah for free and there food is not that bad. The one thing that bothers me is paying $10 per person at the front door to get in. If it were up to me I would just walk away instead of paying those $10. (18% tip is already included btw)

Yelp
I've been coming to Vango for Monday night salsa lessons off and on for 2 and a half years, and while there are definitely some things I don't love about vango, the open dance floor always brings me back. Things I like: -There's no cover & Monday night salsa lessons/the open dance floor are free -They have a great rooftop bar (which I've only ever gotten up to twice) -There's a mix of pros and newbies so all levels are welcome (especially for women) Things I don't like: -No free tap water so you have to buy a 4 dollar 12oz bottle of VOSS "artesian" water. -Some of the guys there (including the instructor) are creepy and will try to rub up against you

Yelp
I came here with a group of people celebrating a birthday. We Loved the atmosphere and the vibe it had. We were able to order drinks and food. Everything came out in a timely matter. We would definitely come here again. The only down fall we didn't like was have to pay to get into the restaurant.

Yelp
Worst service ever! Been waiting for over 30 minutes! No drink no nothing been standing at bar! DO NOT GO HERE So I receive this from what I assume is someone who works at this establishment: (I find it tacky and just speaking more to the lack of customer service)

Yelp
MORE LIKE VAN-DONT-GO We're from out of town and thought the pics looked nice and good menu. We called to make a reservation only to be told to make it online. So we did. It required us to pay $25 non refundable to res eve it. We figured that was fine because we'd be spending more than that anyway. When we got there, the place was empty--no one on a Saturday at 7:30pm--awful music was playing, and bad atmosphere. Clearly, we didn't need to make a reservation online because there was no patron keeping him busy on the phone, which is what I assume when I'm told to place my reservation online. It was just to make sure I paid my $25. SCAM SCAM SCAM.

Yelp
Came here on a Monday night for what their website claims to be Salsa night. Turned out to be Mambo lessons. The music after the class was mainly salsa and Cuban/DR Bachata (depends on the DJ I guess). The main reason I'm giving VanNo a 1 star is their liquor price. $7 for a Corona on a Monday night? That's cute. $10 for a shot? Buddy please, you're not SF nor NYC, calm yourself before you wreck yourself. (By pushing people away/people not buying overpriced drinks)

Yelp
Genuinely if I could give this negative stars I would. I work in the service industry. I have bartended and served for years in restaurants and bars that provide excellent service. However, this was one of the worst experiences I have had. Someone in my party made a reservation (as said on the website) for a party of 14 for VIP rooftop. THE WEBSITE says, one bottle per party of seven for reservations. Read it. It is on there!!! We were told WORD FOR WORD "we don't go by the website" And I'm submitting a screenshot so y'all can see it for yourselves. We arrive (after making a reservation a week in advance and putting down a $100 deposit for the reservation) and at the door there is a $20 cover PER PERSON which we were definitely not told while making the reservation. However, we paid the $20 per 14 people and went inside. We go to the rooftop where we made our reservation and nothing is set for us! We basically have to push the tables together and as we are, the hosts/ servers "helping" us are telling us we can't do that because we would have to pay another $300 for another table and a bottle!! We argued that was ridiculous because we paid a deposit AND cover and didn't have accommodation for a reservation and they looked at us like WE were crazy? Absolutely insane. Icing on the cake? They end up moving us downstairs from our reservation to some random table on the second floor and try to cram us into a table meant for maybe 8 people. At this point we didn't even want to provide service to a place like this considering the service (and rude workers that refused to accommodate ?) and wanted to leave and chose to leave. Upon leaving we wanted our $20 cover per person refunded because of the service and they REFUSED. The security at the door said "we don't usually do refunds" and we are confused as to why we wasted our time to enter and wasted our time to celebrate a 21st birthday. Eventually we got our refund after someone in our party demanded for a manager. But in my time being alive, I have NEVER experienced such a terrible restaurant, bar and service. Don't spend your money here because they do not have your best interest and just want your money. Coming from a past restaurant server, bartender and manager, I mean this genuinely. Luckily I have connections to major marketing, so this won't go unheard. Because I wouldn't want for others to have their night ruined by a place like this.

Yelp
I give the bouncer 5 stars ! He was really great. Probably the only great thing about this place. Vango like most hookah establishments is over priced and not even willing to accommodate people. First they told myself and others they didn't take cards without a chip .. which I feel is completely asinine as everyone doesn't have a card with a chip. Also the drinks are way over priced and pretty watered down. Probably won't go back.

Yelp
If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I went tonight for my friends birthday. My friend purchased 3 bottles and had a VIP section on the top floor. When I get there and attempt to go upstairs the security guard says I have to buy a drink first. So how does it make sense that I have to buy a drink in order to get to my friends VIP section who has drinks? Also, the top floor has a bar you can buy drinks from. I talked to the waitress and another guy who asserted himself as a manager and they all told me the same thing that I needed to buy a drink in order to go upstairs. Not only were they dismissive but they were all rude and condescending. Utterly ridiculous. Why waste your time having a party here or going here at all when there are a number of other venues with much better service and bedside manners from employees. DO NOT GO HERE.

Yelp
I would recommend Vango if: 1. You love waiting in lines! You'll wait in lines to enter the bar, go up to the roof deck, for drinks, in the bathroom, complain to the owner, etc. 2. You enjoy crappy godawful lounge music and equally crappy Top-40 mashups! No one downstairs dances because lounge music is being blasted - but there's a dance floor. And no one upstairs dances because while Top-40 hits are recognizable, there is no real dancefloor. Refer to #1, as there will be lines both downstairs and upstairs anyway. 3. You like shitty mixed drinks and paying way too much for them! 4. You hate yourself, want everyone to know it, and want to be treated as such! The owner is a pathetic and pretentious douchebag who clearly gets off on treating ALL of his PAYING customers like dirt. Is it your birthday? So what. Are you the designated driver? Fuck off. Don't want bottle service? Goodbye! The owner is a self-righteous prick in need of a serious reality check. Yelpers, do yourselves a favor and do not patronize this awful, awful place. Ever.

Yelp
I came here during an event hosted by a radio station of Philly. I was on a guest list so admission was free and I was able to bring a guest in for free. Upon entering, it looked like a very decent bar. The lounge area was pretty cool, with private tables located on the side of the lounge. The dance floor wasn't that big, and the place in general was kind of small. It's classy, but there's nothing more. The drinks they serve are very general, and they are quite expensive. One thing that really stood out of the ordinary was that they consider the venue a skybar. I generally thought of skybars as lounges that are on top of buildings overlooking a city skyline. This skybar was by far, a huge let down. It's on top of a building, but it's only 3 stories high. It has a view of the Philly skyline, but it's like a view you would have if you were on the street. They have tables, or I should say beds since they were like huge mattresses, chairs, and private areas on the roof, and a very small space that I guessed was the dance floor. Everything was wet, though. I believe it was the rain from earlier, but there were coverings above them so I didn't understand why they would be wet. One more thing I didn't like was how anal the policies are. I went to the skybar area when I first entered, since it was empty. When I tried to go back later in the night, I wasn't allowed to because I didn't have a drink. The bouncer said I must buy a drink downstairs to be allowed upstairs, which I thought was stupid. I ended up not going back up to the roof.

Yelp
Atmosphere: Smoky. Eugh. However, they do have a pretty sweet postmodern chandelier, and no cover charge. Draw. Clientele: Your average Van-goer is an early 30s European expat with slicked-back hair and a too-tight T-shirt. And he really wants to dance. With you. :( Music: Vango has a rotating "menu" of DJ nights. Sadly, their current Saturday night guy plays a safe (read: boring) house mix. Your iTunes Party Shuffle could outspin this guy. Drinks: Mixed drinks cost about $7. We had some tasty Kamikazes... except they were mostly lime juice. Oh, and good luck finding a bartender! In conclusion: We actually had a fair bit of fun, once we made dodging skeevy guys to the reptitive beats into a game. But we wouldn't go back, unless a really sweet DJ was playing.
