After I searched for quite some time to locate the Vango Lounge & Skybar, not because they are a mere door with a large sign in large orange letters that read VANGO over it, but because I am not good with directions. "LOL!" The exercise was alright. Anyway, I went to open the door when a large African American male previously preoccupied on his phone stopped me. He said he needed to see ID and needed to check my bag. I carry large pocketbooks with a lot of items, stuff and things, so when he repeated to me several times that I had a lot of stuff and things in my pocketbook I wasn't surprised. Plus I didn't give him a hard-way-to-go because I knew that he could have refused me entry because I had a large pocketbook. MY BAD
In business things can change in a matter of seconds, so when I got through the door after being frisked and told to go to the roof, I was greeted by a large man who looked foreign. He told me that the downstairs was closed and I was to go upstairs. I didn't give him a hard-way-to-go either because I was in the middle of changing a part of my attire when he approached. Also pulling my pocketbook back together.
I reach the upstairs bar lounge and was greeted by a waitress. She asked me if I wanted to sit outside or inside. I started to take a seat inside, but when I went to sit down she told me that the table I chose was reserved and I could sit at the bar. I declined the bar and chose to sit outside? ~Skybar Lounge~
The skybars' lounge atmosphere was twinkly. I was glad that it wasn't very crowded and the music was not loud or full of bass. It was a horrible selection though. The tables were a little small and if the place got packed you would be cramped. A waiter came by at one point and wiped, very briskly, a table or two. I imagined that was why the tables looked as if there was paper stuck to them with old information on them. I was told by my waitress that the place was now under new management. There was a trash can that had debris around it, but I didn't concern myself with that.
My waitress, I thought, was very gracious. She recommended drinks, hookah flavors and foods. We discussed how to add the 18% to the total bill and I was ready to enjoy my night. Still like it says; "If something can go wrong it will."
I ordered 2 drinks. One tasted like a punch, which it was, but had very little alcohol in it. I am no lush, but a $14-$18 drink should give a buzz - even if it is just a little one. The other drink was FANTASTIC! It had the right amount of tequila mixed in with the other flavors and a swollow was good, good and good. Unfortunately, these drinks were served, to me, in small plastic cups. Cups that you would give to a child. I noticed that other patrons has their drinks served in glasses. The kind that you would get if you weren't supplying half your drink to the strange man sitting at the bar that watched you drink, hookah and eat the entire time you stayed at the lounge. This could have just been my imagination. I then ordered a hookah, which I was told lasted about 2 hours, if I wanted to mix and match flavors I could up to 3 with no extra fees and orange mint is not one flavor, but 2; althought, the scanned QR code menu reads it as 1. The hookah was nice. I am a newbie so me getting a little dizzy was not to be exprected or expected. I'll leave that up to any replies I get on this review to tell me if I should have been. I did get a new set of flavors after about an hour that I was told there was no charge for. I then received my 6 piece of wing-dings. Almost every restaurant advertises wing-dings as chicken wings, THEY ARE NOT. Then again I wonder If I gave the other pieces of my so called chicken wings to the strange man sitting at the bar that watched me drink, hookah and eat the entire time I stayed at the lounge. I repeat, This could have just been my imagination. They were quite tasty, well cooked and the dipping sauces, there were 2, were also quite tasty.
I stayed at the lounge about 2 hours, give or take and was asked, prior to ordering, if I wanted to start a tab or pay now. I decided on the pay now option. Since I ordered one thing after another I had several receipts. I didn't concern myself with that until I got the final receipt. My final receipt had my 2 drinks priced, my hookah price, my chicken wing/wing-ding price, the gratuity price and then I noticed 3 other prices. For a grand total of, I won't say, but I will say that I will not be returning to be overcharged for a meal with drinks and hookah that was clearly less then $50
Well, that is my experience and review of the Vango Skybar Lounge. If anyone reads this befor the pictures are posted check back I should have them up for viewing.
