"For bargain pastas prepared fresh in the Village: Vapiano, representing a long-running German chain of Italian restaurants, is located just south of Union Square. The atmosphere is factory like, with multiple work stations behind a counter at which uniformed attendants assemble ingredients and prepare pastas to order. The recipes are simple and well-seasoned, and you can have extra garlic or extra hot pepper added to your Alfredo, Bolognese, or tomato-laced red pesto, tossed with a wide choice of fresh noodles and raviolis. Pizzas concocted by the same formula, and sweets and wine are also available, in a dining area that might remind you of a college library." - Eater Staff

I had never seen or heard of the place before but apparently they are all over the city. The technology here is everything! When you enter you grab a card, tap the card for everything, & pay when you leave. The bartenders at this location are AMAZING. Great personality, & everything. The service overall was great. Everyone was attentive & helpful (seeing as to how I had no clue what I was doing). My only drawback was the food, despite asking for medium spice & loads of garlic, it was bland. I think Beefaroni from a can tasted better than this. If you need a quick lunch, or want to show someone a new dining experience sure, but that's about it.

Very lovely spot with a water front view and a poolside experience. The food was really good too; had the Jerk chicken & Corn salad. Delicious! Great place to just hang out with friends & eat good food. Gets pretty packed quickly tho, so you might need to reserve a table ahead.

Super awesome place. Food was absolutely delicious! And service was excellent. Caesar salad and carbonara were fantastic. They don't offer garlic bread but they made some for me anyway!! Love this place

I have been a loyal customer of this restaurant for about 10 yrs. My friends and I used to host a meetup on the upper level. From my 1st visit I was in love. The ambiance is so mellow. You're greeted by the lovely staff when you walk in. Must be a great place to work because I have never seen or heard of a negative interaction with the staff. You're given a card that essentially is your bill. This is a great idea if you don't like to spilt bills for especially larger groups with different dining preferences. The décor has changed quite a few times but has always stayed true to the energy which is so relaxing. Love the new pieces especially the chandelier heading upstairs. There are pizza, pasta and salad stations where you can have your desired meals prepared. I love watching the chefs whip up all that goodness. On this last visit, Franchesca (I think her name was) suggested Linguini with pesto, tomatoes, white sauce and shrimp and peppers to add a little spice. Omg! Soooo good. Again, 10 yrs and lots of memories. I came here to celebrate when I graduated undergrad, dates, birthday dinners, gf meetups. Love this place.

The simplest way to describe Vapiano to people in my book, is, take the concept of Chipotle, where they make food in front of you, fresh & change it from burritos to Italian food: pasta is the name of the game here, with your protein of choice (see menu, their site is probably better for this). How things work: When you show up, you're given a card. (Second Photo) This card is essentially your tally for everything you order. When you order anything: food, drinks, etc, you place this card down on a pad & it makes a note of what you ordered. You need this card when you go to pay. All items are on there & are retrieved & totaled when you pay. I got the pollo piccante & asked for it spicy (because, why would you live your life so boring to get things bland?!). The person preparing my food was pretty excited by how I ordered food. I'm drawing a blank on his name presently, but he was an awesome dude. The food was fresh & served piping hot. The flavor of this pasta can't really be compared to anything else I've had before. I felted relaxed & happy after eating this meal despite having a long day. They have drinks, along with the standard Coca-Cola freestyle machines that people come to know & love. All & all, it was worth every penny going here. With the meal, a soda, the entire meal came out to just under $20. Worth it for the unique experience. Just keep in mind when ordering, you'll want to know what you want before it is your turn. There will be several lines & you can switch to a different line if you think you'll get your turn faster, but I don't recommend doing this a lot.

Not the most nicest staff BUT the food was amazing (food p*rn) . I ordered the scampi and even though I only got 4 pieces of shrimp, I still devoured it! Edit: I went back on two occasions not too long ago and Alexa was amazing 😉. She made sure I got what I wanted and more .

I came here with my daughter and mother, it was a wonderful experience! The portions are heafty, the prices are very reasonable and the food taste great! It's kid friendly, you choose your own seating and it's communion style. Ordering is unique, every person gets a card that will run up your tab, you go to the designated area to order your own meal, very interesting concept and makes splitting the bill a breeze! I intend on returning!

Lovely decor. Wide variety. Flavorful pasta. Reef n Beef with chicken and shrimp was excellent. The sauce that was in it just wanted me to drink it straight up.
