Varietale Bagels & Coffee

First time visiting this coffee shop. Really good value for the delicious coffee and food looks really good too. We’ll be coming back to try since I heard they bake everything fresh. Also a plus to support a neighborhood coffee shop since there are only a handful in edgewater and this is one I’ll be visiting again.

Finally got to check out this great spot! My bagel breakfast sandwich was the closest I've tasted to the ones I've had in NYC. The coconut lemonade was also excellent! Highly recommend. Cute atmosphere as well.

I can confidently say that Varietale is the #1 spot in Chicago! Having traveled to over 20 countries, this place ranks in my top 3 favorite dining experiences. The bagels are absolutely incredible, and every item on the menu is worth trying. If you're in Chicago, you simply have to visit Varietale—it's a must-try gem!

I would give a zero if I could. I ordered a hot latte with syrup. I noticed afterwards that the price was wrong that the woman charged me. I told her and realized I was looking at the price of the iced. She was rude to me and just said, "can you take the latte?" I had the system print out the receipt and looked at the price of the hot ones. Indeed, I was charged the wrong price. When I went up again, I saw the woman roll her eyes before walking over. When she came, I explained it was the wrong price. What was on the receipt did not match the price of the medium drink on the menu. She said "what you need to understand..that's the price on the register" I told her "no, legally you have to give me what is posted." With her very visible attitude, I told her that I now wanted a full refund. She refused and said I had already ordered it. I could tell that she was annoyed at me for wanting the difference, but this business needs to fix the menu prices. Their medium is also what most other cafes consider the small. Never coming here again. I have worked in customer service and I did not treat people like this. The lady--an employee or the owner-was blatantly rude.

This is one of my go-to neighbourhood coffeehops! Check out the latte art that one of their batistas is known for when he has time and isn't swamped with orders! I love their nutty lattes that is made from Nutella! The reason this is one of my go-to spots is because of the in-house made bagels and croissants! I love the salmon lox and sun-dried tomatoes with green onion cream cheese on a toasted everything bagel! I also highly recommend their bacon-egg-and-cheddar croissants! Their croissants are buttery and flaky! Their ham-and-cheese cachito are wonderful as well! My only dings are that they have very limited seating and only metered street parking. Though to be honest, on a Sunday morning I've never run into an issue with either. And I usually go there on foot from where I live. I also wish they would stay open later, but to be honest, I've found only very limited coffeeshops that are open in the evenings. I guess chicago isn't known for manu coffeeshop 3rd spaces that are open at night. Siiiiigh oh well. They more than make up for it with their lovely cups of Latin American coffee drinks! If you're in Edgewater, definitely swing into this lovely place and grab a bite and drink! Bring a book and sit back and relax!

To be called "Coffee and Bagels", I expected the bagels to be fresh. But they're not. The bagel I got was hard and stale, tasted like grocery store bagel. Service is too slow for grabbing quick breakfast on the way to work. Overall, disappointing. My suggestion: source better bagels and don't put them in big to-go boxes, wrap them in butcher paper bodega-style.

I’m so excited to have another coffee shop in the neighborhood. It’s super cute. I’ve come in here a few times now. Their food looks so yummy. I haven’t had a chance to try it yet. I came to work on my laptop and their Wi-Fi is super slow which is disappointing. Update: I've been here a few times and the internet hasn't improved, but I have been in contact with the business and they are aware of the problem and are working to improve the matter. I have high hopes!

Came across this lovely coffee shop today while walking the city. It is cozy and the vibes are immaculate. The music is kicking and the staff are attentive and quick with the delicious coffee. Pastries and goodies are available, and when I say goodies: I mean freaking good! Whatever you do, you have got to try one of the Pastelitos. I had both the ham and cheese and the pizza one and they were scrumptious. They'll heat them up for you before serving and darlings: delicious. There's some great spots to take instagram worthy photos, they sell merchandise and other coffee related items, they even have a printer you can pay to use for your needs. Convenient! Wifi's available, bathroom was immaculate, chairs were very comfy, and prices were very reasonable. This is a great place to stop in and get work done or sit and gab. You must stop here my dears. Continued thoughts: I've been coming here on and off for some time now and I have updates. The people who run this place are incredible. Hands down exactly who you want serving you amazing coffee and delicious food. They are passionate and fiery, while also being rock solid and stable. They are precise, even tempered and hard working. They know who they are and what they're about. Everything they do makes a statement and that statement is: quality. We are very fortunate to live in a city with a coffee shop such as Varietale Bagels & Coffee. This coffee shop is no mere coffee shop. Do not be deceived by the outward appearance. Heart and authenticity reigns in these veins. And you, my friend, should stop in. You'll be glad when you do. Take care dears.

Owners were super friendly and kind! Lattes and matcha were delish and the guava and cheese pastry was *chefs kiss* Def recommend!

I had mixed reviews about my bagel here. I got the smoked salmon bagel which came with sun dried tomatoes I should have just asked to be kept off. Since they were jarred in oil it made the whole bagel sandwich oily. I just wasn't a fan which skewed my opinion of the whole bagel, but I'd go here again and just change my order! Looks like a fun place to dine in as well.

What a cute little place! Offerings are plentiful - both bagel sammies and coffee/lattes. I did get my food to go, and was a touch disappointed they used styrofoam as a packaging. I got a ham and cheese bagel. It was good; not the best I've ever had, but definitely substantial. It came with potato chips (not in a bag) and that was a nice surprise. I also ordered a muffin for later and that was the most dense, moderately hard muffin I've ever had. I take accountability for that though...I did order it at 1pm. The people at the counter were pleasant and the place was clean. Would venture over here again.

More than a coffee and bagel spot. They breakfast sandwiches are savory and always good. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. It's the perfect spot to chill and enjoy your coffee and tasty pastry or bagel.

Varietale Bagel & Coffee just opened in the area and when I visited it was bustling with people. They have only been open for one week but the vibe of the coffee shop is much needed in the area. The aesthetic of the shop is fresh, modern, and insta worthy. They have a few places you could take a cute photo but also are reminded that this is a coffee shop due to the variety of coffee bean bags throughout the shop. The staff at the coffee shop was so friendly! They greeted my group with a smile and happily walked us through the different options. I believe the owner was working on the day I visited because she walked around everyone's table to check in with every table to make sure we didn't need anything. I have been on a mocha tour so I ordered a small iced mocha along with a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich on an everything bagel. The mocha came out very quickly and I could tell just by looking it had a nice mix of milk, chocolate and expresso. Typically when I order a mocha the main issue I have is that coffee shops will add either too much/little chocolate or milk. The mocha I had was a nice balance of both. I normally don't like the taste of the coffee so it was nice just getting a hint of the expresso without it overpowering the drink. The bagel sandwich was good. I wish it had a little more bacon but you can never really have enough bacon! If you liked cheese you will like it because it was very cheesy. I did enjoy that the bacon was not overcooked, it had a little crunch to it without being dried out. The bagel was good. Outside of the coffee and food they also play mellow music and offer free WiFi. They have ample sitting for different group sizes. There were a ton of two person tables along with two larger booth style sitting for larger groups. My one complaint about the shop is that they randomly decided to open the door when it was below zero to cool down the shop. That is normally fine with me but it was for 10+ minutes so the shop was freezing and took away my desire to stay longer to work. I can see myself visiting and working from the shop on a nicer day so it doesn't feel like I am sitting outside. I am still very excited Varietale opened in the neighborhood! This is going to be my new go-to coffee shop and study place (on warmer days).

What a great new little Cafe! We were about to run through Starbucks (because those gift cards just keep multiplying) but not excited about it, and then we spotted Varietale, looking all new and fresh and cute! Tasty locally roasted coffee in a cute storefront without long lines and a corporate overlord? Sign me up! We pulled a u-turn and ran in for a latte and an iced Chai. The Chai was not on the menu but the barista made it without missing a beat, and it was great. Not full of sugar like one finds at many other coffee shops. The spices tasted fresh and distinctive. The latte was -- and I pause here for emphasis -- pure, creamy, liquid joy. A real pleasure from the first sip to the last. We did not get food on this visit, but I look forward to coming back many times for coffee and light breakfast fare. Note: The café, while adorable, does not appear designed for getting a lot of work done. Not a lot of big, desk-y surfaces. But you could sit with a laptop or tablet and do some routine email or whatnot. Varietale has a more European vibe as a great place to relax and socialize. Which is something I can definitely get behind!

I ordered a large black coffee and it was only filled 3/4. The service is slow and the kitchen is dirty and not well kept. The prices are about the same as Starbucks, though the food is notably more expensive and mediocre.

Still a POS store How you gonna take my money for uber eats and when my driver arrives say you never received it and that you're not taking any uber eats orders If you say not accepting on your tablet, you won't show up on the apps. Not rocket science.

Came here on a Sunday morning to grab some breakfast. Asked for a recommendation from the barista and for the Ice Nutty Latte. Solid drink with some Nutella mixed in. I was a big fan of the croissant I got here. It was super fresh. Definitely would come back to get the sausage, egg, and cheese croissant again! It has a nice coffee shop vibe with plenty of seating here. The coffee shop has some Instagrammable backdrops for your coffee and food photos too. It also has free wifi which is nice. Would like to explore more of the menu next time. Service was great all around.

DO NOT GO HERE. Dishonest business owners. I called to ask where they get their bagels. I was told they have a bakery in another neighborhood and they bake their bagels homemade. When I got there the woman at the cash register did not understand English, so I had to speak to someone else who was very rude. I paid almost $8 for a bagel with cream cheese. It was mushy and soft and tasted like it came from a bag of 6 from Aldi or Jewel. I commented that the price was very high for a bagel with cream cheese, and the woman told me that most places charge more, which is frankly not true . I was lied to --- and was treated very rudely. I would NOT recommend this place under any circumstances!!!

Great bagels! I got a salmon and sundried tomato bagel, it was a bit oily tbh but still really good. The coffee though was sour, and it's not the first time I've gotten a sour latte from this location. Not sure what the problem is there. I've read other reviews about the cashiers attitude and it's never been terrible, it seems like a mixed bag. Overall a cute place!

The cafe is small and cozy with friendly staff and its a great addition to the neighborhood. We ordered a matcha latte along with a mocha and both were super good. Overall I would recommend this place to anyone loving to try new coffee places.

Great addition to the neighborhood, the staff were super friendly and the service was excellent. We tried the bagel breakfast sandwich, which were pretty tasty, and the Iced Nutty Latte is superb. There are a few tables and some seating, but probably not ideal for long extended hang outs, or working on your laptop for hours on end. Bonus perk they have a print with me station if you need to print something and don't want to pay $6 at UPS store. The day I visited their Wi-Fi login didn't seem to work, but otherwise 10/10 would recommend.

This place is AWESOME!! Just the right size with enough tables for everyone. They have wifi, coffee, breakfast sandwiches and pastries. The music is great and lots of sunlight. Just the perfect place to get work done or just sit and enjoy yourself. I definitely recommend this place!!

This place is okay. Truthfully it's a bit too expensive for the quality. I've read a lot of negative reviews about the staff but I've never had a negative experience with them. They definitely don't like to make chit chat and are usually rushing, but anybody who's worked food service can understand that. The coffee is okay, nothing amazing, nothing terrible. The food is pretty greasy. It's good for hangovers, but ultimately not something I'd want most of the time.

I don't post negative reviews often but this was one of the worst bagels I've ever had. For nearly $7, I got a microwaved bagel (they didn't even ask me if I wanted it heated) that was so chewy I could not eat it. I wanted it to be good and to support a local restaurant but the staff seemed as if they couldn't have cared less that I was there and again, the bagel was inedible. My guess is that they don't even make them, but buy them from a whole sale supplier. All of the pastries looked like resold goods. A regular toaster would be a better idea, but even then it wouldn't have been good.

The food was bomb & everything is reasonably priced. I also really liked the atmosphere too

It's okay. I've been here a couple time and the staff aren't the friendliest and seemed very impatient when I was trying to decide at one point. As for the food, the pastries are great but the bagels are super chewy and nothing special. Overall I'd say it's overpriced for the service and food you get. I get that everyone has off days but the fact that on both occasions the staff seemed like they couldn't care less and were borderline rude killed it for me. Also I have a problem that any negative review for them on Google is responded to by the owner saying that the customer was actually the problem and it seems like they're not taking any responsibility for what is easily fixable.

Very cute place and the bagels were delicious!! We had an iced nutty latte and a cappuccino. Both were very good, especially liked the espresso!! Recommend this for a nice environment to work from too.

Their coffee is tasty and their pastries were all wonderful, all in the heart of Edgewater. Very nicely done, y'all

The food is so good! And staff was extremely kind. Definitely give this place a shot. Dog friendly!
