A rare Thai fine‑dining experience in Utah, pairing elegant plates with wine in a plush setting. Reported by Axios in January 2025, it brings dishes like lamb curry and chili‑jam soft‑shell crab to the base of the canyons.

So tonight my wife and I went to have dinner. OH MY is all I can say. This is my #1 Asian restaurant in all of Salt Lake. We had the Curry Dumplings, Drunken Noodles, Curry Salmon, Pineapple Fried Rice and the Mango Sticky Rice for desert. I'm not a big rice lover, but it was good. The rest a 10/10!! Can't wait to go back. And the service, I swear be ready when you order, like 5 minutes after you order, it's at your table. Staff very friendly. Can wait to go back!!

We went there for our anniversary dinner. The food was so good specially the lamb cutlet curry with mashed potato. We took beef fried rice, that was also good. Though the portions were not like other Thai restaurants but as it’s a fine dining, you need to compromise that. We took mango sticky rice. Though the mango wasn’t so sweet but the balance of the dish was very nice. Absolutely love the environment and recommend this place.

We were torn between trying out Sumac Cafe (Persian food) and Ve La Thai, both of which had the highest reviews for restaurants in the area.. by a long shot. After having a really great meal at Sumac Cafe the night before, we tried Ve La the next day. And to our surprise, it WAS SOLID Surprising to find tasty thai food in the mountains of Alta! The spicy chicken dumplings are a must get (think chicken dumplings bathed in red curry!).. salmon carpaccio was fresher than we anticipated.. the scallops were tasty Stand out was the lamb cutlet curry with mashed potatoes. The red curry with chicken was tasty Another must get: tom kha soup. The spice levels here are no joke.. so if you like something with a kick, you’re in for a treat (but ask for ‘hot’) Big space.. friendly attentive service. Worth checking out for sure!

Everything about this place gets 5-stars, especially the food! The ambiance here is very classy/swanky; there are several wine bottles lining the walls from floor to ceiling. The server was attentive and kind. Now, the food - I cannot begin to explain how amazing every dish was. Each order had its own extremely unique and delicious flavor. With every bite came a punch of complex flavors that perfectly blended together. Truly, they served flavors that I have never tasted before. Ve La Thai elevates traditional thai dishes by putting their own spin on it, which creates something truly new and delectable. Every sauce was distinctively tasty; no sauce tasted like the other. The quality of every ingredient was so fresh! Everything came out perfectly cooked, especially the salmon in my Salmon Nashi Salad and the lamb chops. I cannot get over how unique and intricate the taste of each dish was. Each bite was extremely scrumptious from beginning to end. No crumbs were left! Perfect place for a date night. I'll be sure to return!

Google
Such great food, especially for the price. Reviews convinced me to get the soft shell crab and it did not disappoint! Really nice flavor. The lamb curry was exactly what you’d expect and not too spicy. I only wish the kids meal we got for our daughter came with vegetables. Service was friendly, helpful, and great with kids for being fine dining!

Google
This restaurant is incredibly good and offers unique Thai dishes you don’t normally see in other Thai restaurants. I enjoyed the soft shell crab and curry dumplings. The service was extremely fast so I would totally take my kids here ! I feel like we were in and out in 30 minutes. The ambience is nice and relaxing, give this place a try!

Google
We had a great experience at Ve La Thai yesterday, particularly with the salmon curry, which was cooked to perfection and was soft and juicy. My friends were also pleased with their meals, and the service was excellent, especially considering our large group of 12. I would definitely recommend Ve La Thai to my friends.

Google
What a great experience. The atmosphere is lovely. The interior design is warm and relaxing. Seems to be a popular place for Apres Ski. We had an early dinner around 330. The food is so good. We came for the soft shell crab dishes we saw in other reviews and they didn’t disappoint. We had chili jam with soft shell crab and papaya salad with soft shell crab. The papaya salad was spicier than I expected but so flavorful and I couldn’t stop taking bites. Very grateful I had a delicious Thai iced tea at the ready to tone down the heat. Really can’t wait to come back for a night of nice wine and to try more of the menu!

Yelp
We finally decided to dine at Ve La Thai as they received their beer and wine license! We previously had gotten takeout which was delicious. Started with the scallops, which were cooked perfectly and accompanied by fresh vegetables and a fish sauce that was beautifully balanced in terms of acid and heat. Papaya salad and softshell crab was a delightful contradiction of heat and crisp (the crab) with acid and cold (papaya salad). Great portion and still felt light overall. We tried the basil stir fry, medium heat, with seafood and agree with other diners - this restaurant does seafood really well. We were a bit disappointed that the wine list was not as extensive as the one posted on the outside. However, some interesting finds such as Pinot blanc which complemented the food well and is not typically found by the glass locally. I hope they consider bubbles by the glass rather than the split at some point, as it would also match the food nicely. Ambiance is definitely upscale, nice for date night. Servers were attentive and kind.

Yelp
Visiting Salt Lake City from Houston Texas This is my first restaurant in Salt Lake City after some research with some people claiming this being the best Thai food in Salt Lake City. The reviews that mentioned this is the best restaurant for people even traveling from California and etc. is quite interesting. Food wise I got the crab curry personally do not recommend this dish. The softshell crab is indeed deep fried, but that's about it to it. The curry itself is not that appetizing compared to other Thai curries that I've had. The tofu is kind of similar to Agadashi tofu from Japanese cuisine. Wouldn't say this is a typical Thai fried tofu dish. Honestly, the best Thai fried tofu dish I have was in Seattle at a place called Fern on the main or something like that. The ambience was good. The menu itself looks pretty normal average. The drunken noodle was pretty good as expected average good. Service was great nice people, friendly staff.

Yelp
Pad Thai and Drunken noodles were on point. Highly recommend this place for Thai food in the Cottonwood Heights/Sandy area.

Yelp
My husband took me here for a Valentine's Day lunch, and the atmosphere is exquisite! Everything is dark wood and red velvet. Very old-school. The scallops were good but not amazing. Everything else was scrumptious. We tried the curry dumplings, drunken noodles, and pad Thai. I would recommend any of them. My main criticism is the menus look fairly cheap and need some TLC to match the rarefied ambience.
google avatar

Bernice C.

Yelp
I came for lunch and ordered the lunch special for $14, which was a great deal. I had the Pad Thai and the Massaman curry with beef. The Pad Thai was made with glass noodles, which was unexpected but still had the classic Pad Thai flavor. The Massaman curry was slightly sweet, but the beef was tender and well-cooked. The highlight of our meal was the Nam Tok beef salad which was fresh, sour, and tender. It's everything I expect from a great Thai salad! However it is on the pricier side. The salad alone was about $22. Our total for lunch came out to be about $60 for two people. Side note: This photos on Yelp look super fancy, but it's not quite as upscale in person if you were hoping to celebrate an occasion here!

Yelp
Cute spot, not super busy on a Friday night. Service was fast and efficient. Food was really tasty. We got Pad See Ew with vegetables, Pad Thai, vegetable spring rolls and Salmon Carpaccio. The spring rolls might have been my favorite. The Pad Thai was a tiny bit chewy / gummy but not terrible. Pad See Ew was so good, but could have been saucier.

Daisy H.

Yelp
Pad see ew needed more sauce - wasn't brown enough and lacked taste. I also did not like the chicken in pad see ew. The softshell crab was really good!

Yelp
We stopped in as 4 for a quick lunch. A friendly greeting and a nice interior (left over from an Italian restaurant). The lunch specials are a good deal with a couple apps and an entree for $14. My wife loved her green curry chicken, and I enjoyed my chicken with basil. The dinner menu looks great!
google avatar

Kenny F.

Yelp
The food was delicious. We had Tom Kha with vegetables, Pad See ew with chicken and Massaman Beef. All three were excellent tasting. However, the Massaman Beef had a couple tough, fatty pieces. The Massaman sauce was wonderful, but I took off a star for the meat. We had take out and everything was well packaged with no leaks. I will go back and try other menu items in the future. Overall, a very good experience.

Yelp
Service 5 star, price per value 2 stars, ambiance 4 (subtracted 1 star for alarm), cleanliness 4 star (subtracted 1 star for the booth). Taste 2 stars. We really, really wanted to love Ve La Thai. We had high hopes with the rave reviews. But, sadly, they were dashed. When we got there I noticed the smoke detector battery chirping, and every one in a while it would make a very loud beeping. They couldn't do anything about it during food service. It was very distracting and definitely took away from the ambience. We were impressed with the decor and how well they transformed the space into a romantic, quaint space. So we were a little surprised that they would do all these renovations and not repair the tears in the booth cushions. The service was spot on but the food was lacking, and the portions are small for the prices. We ordered the green papaya salad with crispy soft shelled crab and the drunken noodles. The papaya was wilted not crisp, and rather spicy. The crab was very fishy. I took one bite and gave it to my husband, who agreed it was fishy but ate it. The noodles were good but very small portions and very little meat. Bottom line, we will not be back.

Yelp
Delicious Thai food! So glad this has moved into our neighborhood. The spring rolls came out so quickly and were so good, loved the peanut sauce. We also got the pad Thai, curry with mashed potatoes, and fried rice. All of it was so good but especially the fried rice. I think it might be the best fried rice I've ever eaten! We will be back!

Yelp
I have to be honest. I picked this place out of a list of "Special Occasion" search results near Sandy for my 18th anniversary. It was already a bad sign when the wait staff were wearing branded polo shirts and I was handed my menu upside down. Our chopsticks came in the standard to-go variety. Nitpicking, yes, but this is judged at their price point. The fried tofu and calamari were cooked perfectly but the sauces were mediocre and overwhelmed the flavor. The calamari was also the smallest portion I've ever seen especially at $20. My wife got a taste of fishiness from the soft shell crab/papaya salad dish. I tasted it and it tasted like crab viscera but only in one bite. The rest was fine but bland even paired with the papaya salad which really tasted like filler. The wine tasted decent but my full view of the parking lot was not decent. I'd complain less if either the prices for the meals were 25% lower or if the portions were 50% larger.

Yelp
So good! We live down the street and are so excited to go back! The staff and ambiance were great. If you're able to dine in I would highly suggest it :)

Kurt L.

Yelp
My friend and I had the Thai Dumplings appetizer, Green Curry with chicken, and BBQ Beef. All were delicious. We also loved the atmosphere and service. Ve La Thai is our new favorite Thai restaurant.

Yelp
I went to Ve La Thai for a combined birthday/late Mother's Day celebration. We had a group of 9 people. Everyone ordered something different. But the highlights were the curry dumplings, creamy chili jam soft shell crab, and the grilled pork ribs. The dumplings had a delicious slightly spicy curry that they were plated with. The grilled ribs were a generour portion, very tender and had a great balanced barbecue sauce. I had the soft shell crab dish. Something I havent seen at other Thai restaurants. The dish was absolutely amazing. The crab was tender and flavorful with just a light tempura batter. The creamy chili jam was such a unique flavor and was a perfect match. I also reqested the dish to be spicy, I believe that there was some spice to the dish but they also gave me a side of dried chili powder and a chili sauce. Service was friendly and prompt. The exterior of the building may have you think twice as its part of strip mall, but the interior is beautiful and the food is even better.

Yelp
I have eaten here twice. The first time was exceptional. My husband and I ordered the scallops, green curry, and pad thai. All were 5/5. My office is close, so I ordered their lunch special of pad thai today since it was was so good last time. The lunch special pad thai was weird. The noodles were a thin glass noodle, very few sprouts and zero heat or choice of heat for that matter. I may try again based on our first experience, but I will forgo their lunch menu.

Yelp
This a really nice neighborhood Thai restaurant. I highly recommend you giving them a try

Sarah S.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our experience here! The food and service are awesome, so happy there's a great Thai spot in cottonwood heights. Definitely give this place a try.

Yelp
I just went there tonight for 4 of us. We orders papaya salad, Beef NumTok salad, Pad see ew noodles, Mussamun Beef and Panang Curry Chicken. All their food is so authentic, delicious. Staff so friendly. I would love to go back for sure. I am Thai, just move to SLC recently. I couldn't find any authentic Thai place like this. Now I found one that I can say " it is the best Thai food-in this area"
google avatar

Yelp
Can't speak on the wine part, but pretty much everything was perfect. Food: 50/50 Everything we ordered was great and was reasonably priced. You can expect to spend between $20 and $30 per person if you only order an entree. We ordered 2 appetizers, the Beef Tataki and the Curry Dumplings. The Beef Tataki was complete with a delicious soy sauce and texture additions like onions. The Curry was very tasty and the dumplings held their own. I ordered the Pork Ribs. The sauce was sweet and paired well with the savory pork and crispy onions. There was an interesting left turn in the taste of the sauce, which was almost pine-y. This was a welcome left turn and kept me interested. It came with a salad that wasn't dressed, but it wasn't too large either. It acted like a nice palate cleanser between sections of 2 ribs. Service: 25/25 No complaints, the servers were lively and the food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. This was all in spite of the restaurant being slammed for New Year's Eve. Ambience: 20/25 The red velvet chairs, the fake and real wine bottles, and the lights were quite nice. The staff were in uniform, the tables looked good, and the plants were also nice. No complaints, but nothing over the top. Total: 95/100 - 5 Stars

Yelp
Ordered take out. Prices were too high for the level of food we received. The sweet stuff was over sweet. The spicy stuff was bland but too spicy. Mediocre Thai food, but overpriced.

Yelp
The food was amazing and the ambience great. They were very helpful in accommodating a large group that kept growing. Definitely support this new business.

Yelp
This place is VERY yummy. My husband and I stumbled upon it when we were trying to go to Dragon Isle (former restaurant in this space) and decided to stay and try this place since we had driven from Millcreek. The place was very busy, and they're still working on getting their liquor license, or at least we're when we visited. I ordered Pad Thai and he ordered massaman curry. We also ordered a tofu appetizer, but I fit remember what it was called. He loved the curry and the beef, but would have preferred potato chunks instead of mashed potatoes. My pad Thai was very good but was not spicy. I asked for some chili oil and our waitress brought over some dry spice and chili oil and said the spice would pair better with my dish... and it really enhanced it. Before we left I went to wash my hands. There was a line for the women's room, so I decided to go into the men's bathroom. I wish I hadn't because there was something pretty nasty in the urinal with a sign that said "broken- don't flush". Hopefully it's been taken care of and next time I'll just wait in line for the women's bathroom.

Mary C.

Yelp
Delicious Thai food. Very close to Snowbird. If you're skiing and have a car it's worth the drive.

Chad H.

Yelp
Excellent shrimp spring roll......everything super fresh and crisp and it would get a 5 on its own. Pad Thai was a solid 4. Good service. Decor looks like and old wine bar but clean and nice. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Stephen B.

Yelp
The food was amazing. I tried masaman beef and potatoes, as well as the pork ribs. Everything was cooked perfectly.
google avatar

Nabil S.

Yelp
We just got back from skiing and worked up a hunger. We are also from out of town. Found this place on Yelp. We were very impressed with how fresh the food was and the taste was amazing!!! Wish we had this place where we live! Very busy for a Monday night. Great ambiance and very well put together. We'll be back next time we're in town.

Ryan P.

Yelp
I think this is the best Thai restaurant in Utah. I previously wrote a 5 star review. We order takeout all the time and I am reducing my rating to 3 stars because te spice level is so inconsistent. It doesn't matter how we order, the spice level is all over the map. It is really frustrating. Is it that hard?? Really too bad because the food is amazing otherwise. We are going to give it one last try after complaining multiple times. If they can't be consistent with the spice let, we are done with this restaurant!!
google avatar

McCall M.

Yelp
So excited to have this restaurant in our neighborhood. We tried it first over the Holidays with a group of 10. The service was great and the food even better! We have since ordered take out twice. The drunken noodles, Curry and Thai fried rice are our favorites. Looking forward to going back!
google avatar

Rachel R.

Yelp
8:30 they said the kitchen was closed when the hours say open until 9pm. I was really looking forward to trying their food

Murad A.

Yelp
I have ordered doordash and paid 65$. The portion is way too small, it's for one person basically and not good enough to be priced like that. Thank you for making me waste my money!

Casey H.

Yelp
This is above average Thai food. The I've had the panag, masaman with mashed potatoes, drunken noodles and pad see ew (OMG!). It was all good! Dining in was quite a bit better than take out. The they did a great job making a good ambiance. This will be a staple in our community for post canyon food.

Kaylee D.

Yelp
Delicious! Had the Drunken noodles, the beef massaman, and the curry dumplings. The red curry in the dumplings had amazing flavor and was my favorite. I didn't notice any of the issues another reviewer presented. The food was delivered as expected and service was good. High back booths give you privacy. It's really amazing how nice they made the place look. Great addition to Cottonwood!

Yelp
For six years, I have been searching for a Thai place in Utah that didn't over-sugar its food. My search is over! Ve La's Pad Thai dish is perfectly seasoned with tamarind paste, just the right amount of sweetness, and all the savory needed to make it my go-to dish. Papaya Salad is on-point. Delicious appetizer offerings include the raw Salmon with crunchy bits and the extra-crunchy fried Tofu. Red Curry is very good. It's not cheap, but it's worth being able to enjoy the best-tasting Thai food in Salt Lake County.

Victor D.

Yelp
Michelin-Worthy Thai Cuisine - A Chef's Perspective As an executive chef who runs a multi-million dollar catering company in California, I'm not easily impressed--but Ve La Thai Fine Dining in Cottonwood Heights blew me away. Our group of six was welcomed warmly, and despite the size of our party, the food came out incredibly fast, hot, and beautifully presented. Our server, Min, was outstanding--gracious, attentive, and intuitive. She kept everything running smoothly and made the experience feel personal and effortless. Her service was flawless from start to finish. Every dish we ordered was exceptional: * Fresh Spring Rolls with Shrimp (x2) - Fresh, crisp, and packed with flavor. The shrimp were tender and the dipping sauce was vibrant. * Golden Tofu (8pcs) - A standout appetizer. Light, crispy, and perfectly seasoned with a melt-in-your-mouth center. * Egg Rolls (5pcs) - Crunchy, flavorful, and expertly rolled. No grease, just pure deliciousness. * Chicken Meal - Simple yet exceptional. The chicken was juicy, and the sides were well-seasoned and satisfying. * Curry Dumplings (6pcs x2) - These were a surprise hit. The curry sauce was bold and savory, with a delicate wrapper that held everything together beautifully. * Pad Thai with Tofu (x2) - Balanced, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The tofu was nicely charred, and the sauce had great depth. * Thai Fried Rice with Chicken - Full of wok flavor with tender chicken and great texture. Pure comfort food done right. * Tom Yum with Tofu (Very Hot) - A rich, spicy broth with layers of complexity. The tofu soaked up the flavor without falling apart. A perfect bowl. * Mango with Sweet Sticky Rice (x2) - Sweet, creamy, and fresh. The mango was perfectly ripe and paired wonderfully with the coconut rice. * To-Go Pad See Ew with Tofu - Even after traveling home, it was just as satisfying. The noodles were savory, and the tofu held its texture beautifully. From flavor to presentation, every dish felt like it came out of a Michelin-level kitchen. I was thoroughly impressed and can't wait to return. Min and the entire team--thank you for a wonderful evening.

Yelp
Went with friends - ordered four completely different meals to share and it was hard for us to pick our favorite. Staff was amazing, just like the food. Will be back and recommend to everyone!

Yelp
Saw this place just opened so stopped in. The restaurant was clean, the staff was friendly, and the food came quickly. I had the green curry and my wife had the pad thai. The vegetables were fresh and both of our dishes tasted great. I'll definitely go back.

Arlene H.

Yelp
This was a takeout out order Chicken panang Pad Thai Tasteless, chicken was rubbery and very sparse. Extremely disappointed.

Jason A.

Yelp
We were excited to try this new restaurant. I have always loved Thai food. The menu is not very descriptive. A title and a picture, no mention of the "meat" options. They have not yet received their liquor license. We ordered three appetizers. The server delivered them one at a time, nearly five minutes between each one being brought to our table. It was awkward. We finished them and waiting for our entrees. Those were also delivered one at a time with roughly five to seven minutes between deliveries to the table. Again, not ideal. My Pad Thai was very bland, but all of the other entrees were flavorful. The tables are very close together. So it was very uncomfortable. It would be impossible to have a private conversation. We were seated immediately which was nice. The next time we will ask to be seated not so close to others. We value our privacy. I could have touched the fellow next to me without reaching out at all.

Joy N.

Yelp
Food, service, and ambiance were all great. They had toddler friendly eating utensils for my toddler which is such a plus for us and not many restaurants offer that. Can't wait to be back!

Willem G.

Yelp
Salmon salad was delicious and had a wonderful new flavor. Pad Thai was very average.

Lee K.

Yelp
Exceptionally good food and service, and a very welcome addition to the Cottonwood area. Menu is simple but offers a lot of variety. Will be even better when they can serve a glass of wine with the meal!

Winston G.

Yelp
The food, the service , and the ambiance were all outstanding. I highly recommend Ve La!

Debra D.

Yelp
Food was cold and about three small paper thin pieces of chicken. I was hungry within an hour. Eggrolls were nice and crispy on the outside, gummy on the inside. I'm being truthful because you are a neighborhood restaurant that I want to see succeed. Cute little place with a grumpy fellow that seats you. The young girl who worked there was very cute and sweet and nice. A few changes can make that place wonderful and welcomed

Lesley B.

Yelp
Tom kha was oily and yucky. service for take out was good. Mediocre at best. I wouldn't bother.

Madison Christine

Yelp
This food is AMAZING!!! we got our nails done and noticed it was remodeled, the whole experience was so beautiful! Our server was so great! The atmosphere feels very high end, but seriously the food is INCREDIBLE! You have to try the curry dumplings!! They melt in your mouth

Daniel A.

Yelp
Fantastic menu and delicious dishes. Will definitely be back again. Service was fantastic.

Brian A.

Yelp
The people were nice but honestly, the food was horrible. I was so excited to have a Thai restaurant close by. We got takeout on Saturday night, Pad Thai and a Thai Fried rice. The smell smelled like nothing I have had, that was the first sign, a very unappetizing smell. . My wife and I each took a bite and literally had to spit it out and throw away the food that we just spent $50 on. I think something got screwed up with our order because it was that bad. Like they left something out or used the wrong spice. It was really disappointing, I couldn't believe how awful it was. I hope it was just our order that was messed up because I really want those nice people to succeed in Cottonwood Heights.
