Eater’s Guide to the Best Dining and Drinking in Detroit | Eater Detroit

"An Eater Award-winning modern Mexican spot that introduced the city’s first heirloom masa program in a restaurant setting, specializing in housemade tortillas. Standout preparations include tetelas filled with spicy carrot tinga, crispy tostadas topped with buttery tuna, and enchiladas verdes stuffed with succulent duck — all presented as part of an intentional, masa-forward approach to Mexican cooking." - Serena Maria Daniels

Been here three times in like a week. This place is out of the way for me but is so good. Tortillas are top notch. Everything is incredible. The breakfast tostada is a lot to deal with but is so good

It’s a very welcoming food truck. Service is warm and genuine! You can tell they like what they do, you can taste it and you should. Barbacoa and asada tacos are seriously delicious!! There’s also shaded area and a few other places to check out in the area.

So glad that Austin has a proper halal taco place. The owners were so kind and told us that all the meat is sourced locally from a halal meat market and that they grind their on sausage/chorizo (beef) They also make all their tortillas (corn/flour) in house. The tacos were so good we went twice in one day…

Went here on a taco tour I had with my siblings and was so so happy I did!! We tried a lot of spots that Saturday night, so we didn’t try too many things this time - but I will in the future. We had the birria and the deshebrada tacos. The owner told us to try the flour shell and wow was that good. Deshebrada on flour with the green & red salsa provided - incredible!! I can’t wait to come back for breakfast tacos!!

Vecinos is delicious, large portions and super affordable if you order the right items! We got the chilaquiles and the chorizo breakfast tostada and our total was about $16. The portion sizes were very large! We were so full afterwards! The tostada was super tasty. My only critique was that they had 2 salsa choices and both of them were super spicy. I know this is a personal preference though and would love medium spicy salsa. I would definitely recommend! Also grab a coffee from Zed’s, they serve Creature Coffee.

Everything we've tried has been too good. Favorites are definitely the barbacoa tacos (homemade tortillas are fantastic) or the asada nachos. The people are super sweet, good vibes over around. Huge portion sizes and affordable. Really great neighborhood spot.

Google
Very good food for affordable price. Was pleasantly surprised to have a solid breakfast taco for only $3 instead of the new typical $6-7 we normally get in Austin. Excellent service. The owner is very kind and accommodating. It is right next to zedds with pleanty of outdoor seating, fans, mist, etc. highly recommend All of our food below was only ~$20.

Excellent tacos (love the chicken and steak ones) and queso/chips. Service is also top notch. Great clean outdoor seating. I was so excited to learn that the meat is halal. Reasonably priced. Highly recommend. One of my favorite food spots in Austin.

Yelp
Best nachos of my life. No hyperbole for me. We got them with birria beef and added the spicy salsa. My goodness - the chips are homemade, real, perfectly crispy (not getting soggy with all the load of toppings). All this for $13. It was plenty to share. Quick service, too. Go!!

Yelp
I was going to give this five stars, but the food came out really, really slow. No excuse for tacos too take this long, especially with no crowd. Had my standard chorizo and egg on flour. Good tortillas. Really spicey chorizo, which was great. About the spicest I've had in town. Really cool place to eat also, with a coffee shop right there as well.

Yelp
I like Vecinos! Super solid but needs to tweak a few things. I swing by Zeds all the time to grab ice cream and have been dying to try vecino's puffy tacos. While, our steak and chicken puffy tacos came out piping hot - I do have a couple things to nitpick. I'm a firm believer that food should be served hot. Don't give me lukewarm food! But, the puffy taco shell came straight out of the deep fryer and it didn't get a moment to sit, let the grease drip off, and the shell naturally harden. The taco was WAY too greasy for me AND I basically burned my face to eat it. This is a minor thing but I'd think these tacos would eat better if instead of one large taco for $10, they sold 2 street size tacos for $10 instead. The oversized tacos just weren't physically easy to eat! 4 stars might be a bit generous, but the food was REALLY good. Their delivery needs work.

Yelp
Fabulous Mexican food truck that shares a patio with Zed's. We walked here for breakfast, since my friend lives just a few blocks away. She says she comes here all the time. This is a very kid and dog friendly spot. We ordered the chilaquiles to share, as well as bean and cheese and barbacoa breakfast tacos. The tortillas and tortilla chips are handmade and delicious. The barbacoa breakfast tacos with egg and avocado were delicious. Definitely visit this spot for some yummy breakfast or lunch!

Yelp
Initial impression was not great. Worker at the window was incredibly rude and defensive. I guess they assumed we'd be upset that the food wasn't ready within the quoted time but that wasn't a problem for us at all. Tacos were generously filled but lacked flavor. Puffy tacos got soggy quicker than expected and lacked toppings. Quesadillas were somehow cold and soggy. They also didn't read our request to not add onions. Pass on the queso. It seems to have all the seasonings that were missing from the meats. Overall this place can do a lot better with a touch more seasoning and time management. Until then, I don't think this place should be selling a $10 taco.

Yelp
Super amazing tacos, had a breakfast taco and puffy taco! I love that is right next to Zed's too, so a little ice cream right after some good food is awesome. Great vibes, and awesome location! Definitely would come again!

Yelp
Serviceable breakfast tacos, but it would be nice if they provided salsa. I recommend the breakfast tostadas.
