The 13 Best Vegan Restaurants in Mexico City | Eater

"Vegano aims to offer a wide range of options for multiple types of eaters — vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, or dairy-free — all under the umbrella of “gordivegano” or “fatty vegan” dining. The menu is based on Mexican and international comfort foods like red or green chilaquiles, a barbecue burrito with breaded cauliflower and plantains, or a breakfast sandwich with tofu scramble, guacamole, and rice paper bacon. Potato, carrot-based cheese, faux chicken, tofu, chickpeas, and cashews fill the pantry. Vegamo’s most Instagrammable dish is the Chewbacca, a sandwich composed of two spinach-avocado waffles around a filling of soy bacon, mushroom stew, and basil pesto. Vegamo is a helpful vegan option in Centro Histórico, where animal-free dining is limited." - Natalia de la Rosa

Google
Happy to find vegan restaurants here, but the guacamole wasn't that good. I looks beautiful and I give it 5 stars for the effort, but it tasted like the one you can buy in the supermarket. Also just a few nachos, I went down to ask for more, you'll get them, but you pay extra. They didn't have hot drinks on the day I was there - very sad, because I came for coffee. I needed to use the toilet but didn't, because I was disgusted by them. I ended up paying 7€ for the guacamole, which I find overpriced for the taste and overall experience in this restaurant.

The staff first of all was amazing-so friendly and attentive. They look like they really enjoy working with each other! It makes for such. Cool experience. The food was DELICIOUS. I had the birria ramen and pesto pizza. Mucho gracias mi amigos!

One of my few experiences with vegetarian food, and I can happily say that their dishes are delicious. I recommend the Bandeja Paisa—it's a very tasty and complete dish—as well as the BBQ Burrito, which is flavorful. Be careful with the pizza; it’s not the typical pizza you know. It’s much more stuffed than usual, and remember, it’s vegan pizza, so they don’t use certain common ingredients from traditional pizza. They have a good variety of hot and cold drinks. I recommend not sitting outside near the street. A car might pass by and stir up a lot of dust or unpleasant odors, depending on the vehicle. Also, the ground in that area isn’t completely flat; it’s slightly inclined. If you want the best experience, go for the indoor seats or the sidewalk seating. Unfortunately, there are certain aspects of the place that need improvement: 1. Dish availability – Depending on the time and day, some dishes might not be available. For example, the Bandeja Paisa is often sold out. 2. Service during busy hours – It can be a bit tricky to get served. There’s usually only one person at the register, and this same person often takes table orders. If you want better service without having to get up, sit inside the establishment—it's easier to get their attention. 3. The vegan "egg" in the Bandeja Paisa is too sweet. 4. Sitting outside at night is not a great experience due to the lack of lighting, and passing cars with high beams can be blinding if you're seated facing the opposite direction of traffic. Note: Sharing pictures from both afternoon and night time experiences.

Google
A calm and delicious restaurant, the service was friendly and the menu had so many great options. I got hotcakes and tea and was super happy with my meal! I will definitely be coming back here for more yummy vegan eats. Update: The kale caesar salad was quite good as well, I really enjoyed the combination of the quinoa with the coconut milk! The pink lemonade is also good. And the upstairs seating area is cozy with warm lighting, very good vibes.

Google
This cute restaurant/cafe is very trendy and an excellent spot for vegan and gluten free options. My family and I visited twice during our five day stay in Mexico City. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The fries were our favourite! The brownie was rich and delicious. Worth checking out during your trip!

Google
Really good food, very nice presentation too! I thought the potion sizes were a bit small but other than that the guacamole, birria and enmoladas were delicious!

Google
Delicious food served with care, and beautifully plated. I’d love to see a few offerings in smaller portions like soup or guacamole so you could order them more like an aide dish or addition to a plate. Pastries are also tasty and visually spectacular. Service is simple but just right for the type of vibe the restaurant has.

Yelp
What an abundance of vegan eateries! Each with their own take on food, and its all good. Vegamo is no exception. We ate at an upstairs table, very good service, enjoyable food, decent coffee, and fair pricing. I had the Jedi, a hotcake, sausage, tomato, and nicely seasoned mushrooms. Other members of our party had the Acai bowl, the hotcakes, and the Chicken Waffle. All good. A great start to the day.

Yelp
Plan ahead for limited parking options. Utilize alternative transportation methods such as Uber or walking to avoid inconvenience. There is a parking structure on the next block, but be advised that traffic in the area is comparable to that of Los Angeles. This cozy establishment is located in the heart of downtown. Its cleanliness and excellent service are evident upon entry. Our drinks were served by a kind and attentive young lady. The delectable cuisine and exceptional presentation exceeded our expectations.

Yelp
Really enjoyed my experience at vegamo- the food was always fresh and delicious. The service and vibe of the place was cool. I really liked the golden milk and every dish I tried was on point. Went back there twice because we liked it so much on our trip to Mexico City.

Yelp
We ordered twice from here: First time from Uber Eats - enchiladas Rojas: pretty good - flautas: ok, tasty but the fried tortilla was very difficult to chew - buffalo cauliflower: good, but we have had better We requested utensils, but they forgot to provide with our takeout order Second time, we went in person thinking it would be better fresh. - burrito: ok, good crispy cauliflower but too much pickled cabbage - chilaquiles rojos/verdes: the first time the order came, the chips were so stale, I could not even chew them. This is the first time I've ever sent an item back. The server was confused by my complaint, but brought back another plate. This time the chips were more crunchy. This experience, however, was highly disappointing. Our meal was moderately priced, so I won't complaint too much, but hopefully the food is fresher for others

Yelp
Another vegan spot in Mexico City and this one is fire too! Spanish only but for the price it's solid. I feel like for the reviews that didn't rate this as highly had communication issues or just straight up have reading comprehension problems and only got the first item on the menu. It's a cute cafe with two floors and outdoor seating. You can ask for a menu which is qr code based and a person will help you. So they did a breakfast package for $55 pesos more ($3usd more) and I highly recommend it. Ask for like "Quiero El paquete" (key-air-O El pa-que-tay" and they give you a delicious cookie, coffee, and an amazing green juice that is so delicious. I think it's a spinach juice but it tasted like orange juice and felt VERY refreshing and I recommend it with your meal! I went with the Waffle Sandwich Chewbacca which is avocado dough waffle sandwich with vegan bacon and cheese, homemade mayo, pancake, tomato, caramelized onion and pesto and works really well together with a side salad of tangy sauce. I love it. For the price it was pretty good and enjoyed it.

Yelp
The food was delicious! The corn tortillas were fresh and ohhh so good. The portions were reasonable and the prices were good. I had the enchiladas with red sauce, my kids had the Mexican bowl, and my husband had the açaí bowl. All was devoured with no leftovers. The service was very kind and accommodating and the restaurant was very clean. We sat in the outdoor seating which was lovely and surrounded by potted plants. Would def recommend!

Yelp
When you're in another country, you can't be picky. But the food was excellent for a small vegan place. It's almost a hole-in-the-wall experience, a nice and cozy place to enjoy some light lunch. Even with language barrier, the service was good. We were glad to find this place while in our trip. Definitely worth the experience.

Yelp
Very good vegan food. My wife loved her chilaquiles, I thought my pancakes were super dry and not as good. The oreo milkshake with whipped cream was AMAZING.

Yelp
I had a 4 hour layover in CDMX and I decided to give this place a shot and I'm glad I did. I'm Impressed by the presentation and the amount served not to mention it was delicious! It satisfied my savory and sweet cravings and l enjoyed every bite. From the time I ordered to the time I received my food was about 30 minutes, thankfully I was not in a rush however it was worth the wait.

Yelp
Solid vegan spot downtown. Not too much seating, was pretty full when I arrived with a friend, but we got a seat at the window bar. We ordered: -pozole (very good soup with a nice kick, much bigger portion than we were expecting) - enchiladas verdes - really fresh and delicious. Highly recommend asking for additional hot sauce and pouring it on. - Oreo milkshake was pretty good - quite heavy - horchata was good but nothing to write home about. Would be curious to come back and try the waffle sandwich.

Luci R.

Yelp
Toda la comida que probamos aquí fue excelente! La horchata y el pan de zanahoria también eran muy buenos!

Yelp
Finishing my DF reviews. This place is absolutely fantastic. I wanted to try everything on the menu after seeing food come out. I settled in the enchiladas and I was not disappointed. The portion size was perfect where I was full but not stuffed. Everything that came out looked like a work of art. Their pastry and dessert case looked delicious, saving that food adventure for the next time I come back. My friend got a salad that looked like a rainbow. Our smoothies were also delicious. The staff was kind and gave us lots of suggestions- I am coming back for the pastries, desserts and the chick'n and waffle! Thank you for such a delightful vegan experience. Seating is both outside and inside.

Daniel F.

Yelp
Tasty food with great service. Price was reasonable for Mexico City. Outdoor seating and indoor dinning, too. I came for a second experience. It blew my mind! The best meal in Mexico! Off the charts fantastic. Incredible flavor, beautiful and artistic platter presentation, wonderful service. And vegan. And I am not a vegan. I had a religious experience eating here the second night. What a find!

Yelp
Great vegan food, friendly service, hip atmosphere. Occasionally there are a couple of cute, well-mannered pups hanging around. Las enchiladas verdes and chilaquiles have been my favorite dishes. The "Cacao" (vegan hot chocolate) is exceptionally well-executed. The waffle sandwich looked promising but needed a LOT more sauce. (I kept asking for more, getting just a couple tablespoons at a time. It was so dry!) Sweet potato fries were delicious, but also needed more sauce. Downside is the limited seating: tables are close together and people are constantly walking by on sidewalk without masks. But since I moved out of the neighborhood, I find myself missing Vegamo and hope to make a return trip soon.

Yelp
Muy bonita lugar con gente muy attento y amable! La comida eran mega, mega rico! ¡volveré !

Russ H.

Yelp
Tasty Vegan food. Great presentation. It is a very small place though. It looks like it maybe does a coffee and pastry business in the morning. It's hard to tell if they started as that and then ended up making meals. Either way, just know that it is limited seating but great food.

Fod D.

Yelp
Service was great and the food was delicious. The fact it was vegetarian was baffling.

Yelp
I came here by myself for lunch on this quiet Sunday afternoon. I had found this place online after doing a search for vegetarian restaurants. I quickly found a table outside along the sidewalk, and it quite warm and peaxeful. Their menu is fairly extensive, and I wasn't sure whether to order a vegetarian pizza, special salad, or a vegetarian burger. I ultimately decided on the double cheeseburger that is made with beans and quinoa which is a type of seed. This cheeseburger platter included papas which are basically French fries. For the drink I got a regular orange juice. The Server who took my order was super helpful with some of the menu translation, and he was moving quickly to take care of me and the other customers. I went for the fries first which is what I always eat first, and they were cooked just right. The double cheeseburger was a decent portion, and it tasted just like any regular beef burger! I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
google avatar

Jo M.

Yelp

Yelp
We were looking for a place to get brunch (the wait at El Cardenal was insane) when we stumbled on Vegamo. There seems to be an increasing number of fully vegan restaurants in CDMX, but Vegamo has to be one of the best! They serve classic Mexican dishes like chilaquiles and enchiladas along with more trendy options like waffles and acai bowls. I added soy chorizo to my red chilaquiles and they were delicious! My vegan friend was finally able to try mole here. There are a lot of gluten free options on the menu, too! The beverage menu is also pretty extensive, with lots of smoothies and tonics. The horchata was so tasty! The interior is really cute and hipster. It's pretty small inside so you may have to wait a few minutes for a table. The location is not necessarily somewhere you would happen to walk past, but it's pretty close to the Palacio de Bellas Artes and historic center. Overall I would definitely recommend Vegamo as a cute brunch spot for those with dietary restrictions in CDMX!

Yelp
Amazing vegan food!! With Great selection ) Get the green enchiladas ) Highly recommend it!
google avatar

Jon R.

Yelp
Nice little café that serves all vegan food. Has a few tables outside that was part of their parking lot and also on the inside second floor. The food is good I had the beyond burger and the enchiladas. And also a smoothie. I also tried their guacamole. Was a big serving. The service was fast and friendly. Also the prices were good for vegan food. Will be back when I'm in Mexico City. Thumbs up

Yelp
This is a vegan's dream in Mexico City: Mexican vegan food. Of course any cuisine would be fine but there's nothing like tasting the food of the land. I had the chilaquiles and they were fantastic. Service was quick and friendly and the vibe was on point.
google avatar

Cici B.

Yelp
This is... hands down my favorite restaurant in CDMX. I went either every other day or more to grab something. I love the atmosphere and the workers are so kind and are easy to speak to. The food is AMAZING! Every single thing I had was to die for. Vegan food made into literal art at an amazing price. You honestly can't get any better. Definitely get the waffle sandwiches they are so good! And the VEGamo salad is amazing.
google avatar

Jennifer D.

Yelp
Another amazing vegan brunch spot in cdmx! The interior is a two story well decorated cafe with tiny tables facing a big open window. We tried a range of coffees, smoothies, and entrees which were all super yummy. The red chilaquiles with soy chorizo was a table favorite, with great sauce and mix of textures. The green chilaquiles were somewhat sweet which some liked and others didn't. The Jedi comes with a mix of foods, and we really liked the tofu scramble and mushrooms but we didn't really like the vegan hot dog. The order of hotcakes were beautifully adorned with apple compote and berries though the hotcakes themselves were a bit thick and tough. The smoothies were delicious with a really nice, healthy mix of ingredients! The coffees we mostly liked, though the regular coffee with almond milk had a bit of a bitter flavor. Another highlight was their homemade vegan Snickers! With all the right flavors, but healthy and filling!

Yelp
Tiny hole in the wall restaurant not far from Museo de Arte Popular. Staff is friendly and makes fantastic hot chocolate. I ate here twice -- they best chilaquiles I've had ever - I had chocolate mole and my friend had verde. Super cute tiny space, very clean and friendly service. On the right day - you might get to see the cute pup who belongs with one of the staff!

Kirenjeet B.

Yelp
Location is a bit tucked away but as with there other location the place itself is really cool vibes. Some seating outside and inside on both flowers. Menu is online https://www.vegamomx.com/english-menu.html if you want a preview. The walk from historic core was intense so many people crowded together keep watch of your bag and phone. Speedy service. Breakfast is not served all day fyi.
google avatar

Lindsay C.

Yelp
I'm debating between giving this place 3 or 4 stars. The food looks way better than it tastes. Pretty disappointed in the red enchiladas, I didn't finish them: but the salad was delicious. I'm gonna give other vegan spots in the city a chance before I return. Maybe my expectations were too high and I ordered the wrong things. Doesn't hold a candle to the vegan options we have in California.
google avatar

Premila M.

Yelp
A bit of a walk from the main historic street, but it was worth the cab drive. A small and tiny space on a busy street offering all vegan menu is the place to be for a hungry vegetarian! The Enchiladas was delicious. I dint miss real cheese at all. The tacos beans and tomato sauce were all lip smacking. Very fresh and great potions size. The protein bowl with quinoa was decent, not extraordinary but yet healthy and fresh! The service and fast and the people are very nice! We enjoyed this place!

Jorja H.

Yelp
expensive, bad dirty chai. Good service, but the menu was only online and I had no signal inside.
google avatar

Gaby G.

Yelp
Everything was delicious & the service was also excellent! The wrap had a good balance between texture and flavor, the rosa limonda was refreshing and the morning tonic was just was I needed on a cold and rainy day. The only small recommendation I have is perhaps changing out the cold white rice served with the wrap. It felt a tad out of place with the rest of plate. Other than that my overall experience was fantastic. I will definitely be back to visit next time I am in the area.
google avatar

Scarlett F.

Yelp
Cute little spot to eat! I liked dining upstairs because the staircase is kind of scary and exhilarating. My husband had enchiladas in a wonderfully flavorful sauce. I had some kind of fried cauliflower dish and loved it. The drinks were good as well. We took some pastries to go and ate them for breakfast the next day. They were pillowy and delicious. The waiter gave us a free little cookie too!

Xiaorong D.

Yelp
Delicious food and warmly service. It is happy to find a vegan restaurant just near hotel.
google avatar

Bianca G.

Yelp
This place is the bomb!!!!! So, I went ahead and ordered the waitresses favorite menu item (per my experience at last torta place) and it was much more than I expected. The presentation was impressive and the flavors were out of this world. Mind you, I am a green enchilada sauce type gal and this was made with red sauce. I felt like personally thanking the chef thats how amazing it was. Prices are super amazing as well. If you are in the area stop on in, you will not regret it!
google avatar

Summer D.

Yelp
Enmoladas with sweet potato and carrot. Spicy and delicious. Just enjoying a layover in the city!
google avatar

jennifer a.

Yelp
I had the detox smoothie and quinoa bowl and they were both really good. The detox smoothie is by far the best green juice smoothie I've ever had- and thats crazy to say because I drink those a lot. So I'm very excited to go back

Leo J.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem, everything was fresh and tasty, healthy dishes for anytime of the day. My only negative comment is that they were short of staff in the kitchen and our food took ages, but food was so good that we didn't mind the wait. Enchiladas were great and we also tried the lemon, mint & ginger water and some smoothies... delicious!!

Mariana I.

Yelp
Yummy, hipster vibes, good food. The food is not BLASTING with flavor, but it's healthy and hearty. Pretty good. I would recommend to people. We also got the cheeseburger- we would not choose this next time since it has a weird taste.
google avatar

Philip S.

Yelp
I loved this tiny and quirky restaurant but only gave it four stars probably because I am not a vegetarian! An example of what I mean by this is their ceviche puerto; this vegetarian dish had great acidity but was not as good as a well prepared fish ceviche. I then followed with Pad Thai which was good but the noodles were a little too al dente for my taste. As for the service, the staff were super friendly which when combined with the interesting building created a good ambiance.
google avatar

Keisha M.

Yelp
Where do I begin....I ordered the black bean burger and some potato soup. The black bean burger came with a side of fries but upon delivery the side of fries were so small that I thought they had run out. The bun on the burger was soggy and the burger and soup was lacking in flavor. The restaurant had a great ambience and a staff member that spoke English.
google avatar

Ann X.

Yelp
Delicious, friendly service although it's a busy cafe - at 4:30pm on Saturday it was nearly full the whole time I was there. I got the enmoladas and a mango smoothie and was more than satisfied.

Dan K.

Yelp
I had been meaning to try this place for the longest time. Finally made it and glad I did. First off, it's a cute location about three blocks from the Alameda. The store front is small: two tables on the sidewalk, two inside and three upstairs plus counter space to eat. If you go and have mobility problems, count on a wait as then upstairs tables are not accessible. The stairway while incredibly designed is a little hazardous. Now to the service, very friendly staff, a little confused by why this fat American was gorging on enchiladas but more in the " now I.ve seen everything" way. I had the enchiladas with cashew cream and they were delicious! As you can see from the photo it was a lot of food. My only wish was a little more heat but I was halfway through before I thought to ask for salsa so that says a lot. The crowd runs hip and going to but again no one gave this old queer key y any side eye. And, as I now do frequently, the leftovers fit perfectly into my ziplock bag to eat later with chips at the airport! I will definitely be back and was pretty inspired by their menu to try this at home
google avatar

Marie-Jeanne M.

Yelp
The place is cute and the staff was friendly. To drink I had a ginger and mint lemonade and to eat, I ordered a salad, it was supposed to have sprouts and linseed but it just wasn't there. They put complimentary sesame seeds instead. THANK YOU! I couldnt tell what the dressing was because it had no flavor. Everything else was fresh, the cucumber slices were so big that I had dressing on my face but you know what, its fine, they use them at the spa.
google avatar

Mark L.

Yelp
So far, I've only eaten here once. But this I can tell you, the vibrations are wonderful. It's clear the proprietors and staff work to make this a healing place. I walked in the door and was cheerfully greeted. The menu features vegan versions of traditional Mexican dishes. I intend to go back and try them, but at the tIme I just wanted a salad. And what a salad it was! Fresh, crisp, colorful. Just perfect. I also had a detox smoothie made with water rather than a vegan milk, and it was also perfect. Perfect degree of chill and not sweet. I'm going back!
google avatar

Jackie V.

Yelp
I am an American and came to visit Mexico city during thanksgiving break. We were so excited to find that this place was so close to our bnb! Vegamo is a super cute place that is all vegan! I had the best chilequiles I've ever had here! The oreo frappe was also very good, it came cold. It doesn't taste like Oreos but kind of has a banana chocolate flavor lol I would recommend this place to any vegans traveling to Mexico city.
google avatar

Bianca M.

Yelp
Ordered an order of paperas just to find out 30 minutes that the order was never placed. The waiter completely ignored us and didn't even ask if we needed anything. The only reason I found out that my order wasn't placed was because I had to flag him down and ask him. For being a small place and it not being busy it was horrible service. Definitely not a good first experience and will absolutely be the last.
google avatar

Denise J.

Yelp
The food was so tasty! The menu had lots of options for breakfast and lunch. They even had fresh doughnuts yum!
google avatar

Enio M.

Yelp
Nice place, with a great environment. Food was delicious. I got the protein bowl 100% recommended with a great smoothie. Definitely I will be back.

Yelp
10/10 Food was DELICIOUS, had to come back here again for the great breakfast and friendly service. Bilingual and more then willing to help, great atmosphere and great food/smoothies/coffee
