How Black Chefs Are Leading a Vegan Fast-Food Movement | Bon Appétit

"Founded in 2019 after the owner re-created family and regional recipes as plant-based versions, this Black- and family-owned fast-casual spot in Shreveport serves vegan takes on local favorites that aim to convince even meat-eaters — especially family members — to try plant-based cooking. Standout plates include BBQ jackfruit brisket, vegan shrimp and grits, a banana-blossom “catfish,” and jackfruit-seitan “chicken” wings glazed in a spicy lemon-butter-pepper sauce, all rooted in the owner’s experimentation with grandmother’s cookbooks and Southern classics." - ByKayla Stewart

This place is definitely a hidden gem with the taste of food, clean restaurant and friendly staff. It just takes a bit longer to receive your food but worth it. I will definitely be back to try something else the next time I'm in town.

I ordered on the app and picked up my order. I arrived for the pickup time that I set and waited over 40 minutes for the order. The burger was large and delicious. I was a tad bit disappointed in the fries, they were the frozen kind. The tomato, pickle, lettuce was fresh. There was no condiments on the bread but there was a sauce added. I also ordered the peach cobbler...AMAZING!!! If you go, make sure you another enough time for pickup.

I have finally tried the infamous plant based restaurant in Shreveport VoTR! It was a small challenge getting my lunch plans in order according to their schedule. I made their preorder on Tuesday for a pick up meal on Wing Wednesday and I must say the meal I had was more filling than I anticipated! The buscuit was tender too. I ordered the spicy wing plate and a Mac n cheese side with an extra ranch. The ranch is distinct and full of flavor! 👌👌I enjoyed my meal and will order from them again. On a side note, it’s curbside pick up only which did not occur to me 😅Even though I was offered to wait indoors, the offer wasn’t quite welcoming so I accepted the curbside option. I now know how to approach this restaurant to get some good eats! They won’t answer their phones. Their hours are very short so plan ahead, set an alarm! Nice little spot on the outskirts of downtown. I hope to see more prosperity in that patch of downtown outskirts area! *edited to update my rating to 5 star. Food has been super great since the first meal!

Google
An absolute GEM of a vegan restaurant. It is so very hard to find delicious vegan comfort food. Vegans on the Run hits their meals out of the park! The flavor is amazing, the food is cooked fresh. If you are in Shreveport, you MUST eat here.

The customer service was a 10/10 but the food was a 3/10 and that’s me being generous… I came for the wings Wednesday I was super disappointed I drove a long way to try it. It tasted like a vegan frozen chicken finger stick thing they tried to coat in hot sauce or some type of sauce. It was a long wait and they still got some things on my order wrong... The Mac and cheese was a 5/10 and the peach cobbler was the best thing I’ll rate it a 6.5/10. For $30 of my hard earned money I was disappointed.

Let me start by saying they were closed at the time but took time out of their closed day to make lil ole me some food!! Great Customer Service, Black Owned, Family Oriented!! I ate the Red Beans and Rice 1st and let's just say you cannot tell the difference, had me trying to make sure it was vegan lol the cornbread muffins we good, and the chicken was good too! The Lasagna Soup was eaten the next day and whew chile it was FYE!!!!! The Grilled cheese was a perfect match with that soup! I was upset a little because when I made it back to Texas with my leftover soup and grilled cheese my grilled cheese fell on the floor lol and I couldn't drive to go get any since I was home. Overall AWESOME experience, AWESOME food, and just AWSOME all around! I definitely would recommend them!!! Oh before I forget that PEACH COBBLER, was cobbling if that's even a saying LOL YUMMY!!!!

Yelp
Fantastic! The photo doesn't do justice. Today's soul food menu included chicken fried cauliflower (tasted very much like fried oysters... hmmm poboy option? ), cabbage, corn bread, mac n cheese and sweet potato pie. Even the meat eaters in my family gobbled it up. So wonderful to have this option in town. Let's support them so they stick around!

Yelp
My husband and I have recently gone Vegan so we decided to try out Vegans On The Run and it was DELICIOUS! We had the Cajun Chick'n with mashed potatoes with gravy, cornbread and collard greens! Y'all it took me back to country cooking before we went vegan, I could barely taste the difference. I would highly recommend Vegans on the Run to anyone not just vegans!

Yelp
EXCELLENT AND DELICIOUS FOOD! The BBQ Chik'n Sandwich is my favorite! So much flavor and love that's put in the meals. The owners are truly passionate about recreating our favorite foods in a vegan option. Truly a gem in the city and can't wait to try more!

Yelp
The food was delicious and satisfying! When I say these guys can cook...they can COOK. Friendly staff and everything was seasoned perfectly. We will definitely be coming back.:)

Yelp
I really like the idea of Vegans on the Run. For my review keep in mind that I am not vegan. To me the shrimp and grits was not it. The main reason for that is because of the name. Honestly it has no resemblance to normal shrimp and grits. That made me expect something that it was not. The bacon was a weird texture reminiscent of dog food. The I guess shrimp was a weird little faux meat. It wasn't nasty but comparing it to shrimp made it seem worse than it really was. The lemonade tasted vegan too lol. It wasn't gross but I was expecting loads more sugar. It wasn't bad at all though. I was expecting the chicken and waffles to taste amazing since there are lots of vegan alternative for waffles. This dish was good but it was DRRRRRYYYYYY. I needed more syrup and the lemonade came in handy. The waffle was a little too dry. I couldn't finish it. I liked the chicken though but I'm a huge fan of tofu so that could be why. Overall the food was okay. It's not the best for a nonvegan but for vegans I'm sure it's delicious! That's why I gave it four stars. For non vegans it's more like a 3 or 2 star restaurant. It's a decent vegan restaurant for VEGANS!!! For people use to eating shrimp and grits issa no. They should change the names so people don't expect the traditional dish and receive something drastically different.

Yelp
Eating healthier has not been necessarily fun or tasteful, but this place offers multiple food options with taste. I would definitely recommend their vegan seafood broil.
