Unpretentious counter serve featuring a range of vegetarian & vegan dishes, plus smoothies & juices.
"The original Veggie Castle in Little Caribbean has been an institution since before veganism became a thing, so I knew I had to try Veggie Castle’s other location. Right next to Sybil’s, you’ll find this unpretentious juice bar and restaurant with a juice selection named after body parts, ailments, and remedies like Eyes, Allergies, and Skin Bright. If you’re eating curries, stews, pepper, and sweets nearby, know that Veggie Castle has your back when you need a healthy option to balance it all out. I was dying to try a juice cure and opted for the Cleaning Cocktail, a refreshing blend of carrot, apple, ginger with aloe vera and vegan fish and chips and was pleasantly surprised that the flavors and textures were on par with their legacy and lived up to the hype." - shelley worrell 31
"Legions of longstanding loyalists would easily crown Veggie Castle king of vegan cooking in New York. Since 1998, Viburt ‘Cookie’ Bernard, current owner of both his mom’s eponymous Sybil’s bakery and Veggie Castle, has been doling out Caribbean vegan fare favored by local Rastafarians at the latter. The soy-based garlicky ginger “chicken” is a hit here. Other menu highlights include jerk “chick’n,” vegan “fysh,” lentil patties, stewed black eyed peas, collard greens, and a creamy rasta pasta. A medium-sized meal with two sides and two proteins will run you $11.43. Dishes can be paired with beverages at the juice bar, which proposes antidotes to life’s ailments like the Hangover (watermelon, ginger, orange, and cucumber). A second Flatbush location that closed last year is set to open soon." - Caroline Shin
"Located at 106-13 Guy R Brewer Boulevard, it joins a select group of vegan Caribbean restaurants such as Richmond Hill’s Veggie Castle II and Crown Heights’s Ital Kitchen BK, which specializes in Rastafarian food." - Caroline Shin
"Veggie Castle II opened in Flatbush in 1998. That storefront is now closed, but at its second location in Richmond Hill, Queens there’s a steam table loaded with Ital delicacies catering to the local Rastafarian community and the restaurant’s devoted followers alike. Finish off the mix-and-match plate with a few BBQ drumsticks, which are made of soy chicken and married with sticky-sweet sauce. Or just order a dozen and call it a day." - Emily J. Wilson
"All vegan New Yorkers should try a vegan chopped cheese at some point. And at Veggie Castle, a restaurant and juice bar in South Richmond Hill, you can order one that looks good enough to change the way the world sees cashew cheese. This Queens spot is open for takeout between 10am and 8pm every day except Sunday. And if you’re interested in other things like jackfruit burgers or fresh juices, you can call 718-641-8342 to order those too. Just keep in mind that they’re only taking pick-up orders right now." - Nikko Duren
