Mile End Taqueria Maïs Is Closing, But Its Owners Have New Plans | Eater Montreal

"I read on social media that Mile End taqueria Maïs will close its doors by the end of the year; its final day of service will be December 28, and in the lead-up tequila and mezcal will be discounted. Opened in 2012, it served a respectable seven years on the Main, offering classics like carnitas and Baja-style fish tacos alongside creative tacos such as a carrot-almond option. I was relieved to learn that some of the restaurant’s owners are retaining the space on St-Laurent and planning something new, so the storefront won’t become yet another empty, for-rent spot. Maïs also made a name of sorts with the Parasol pop-up, which drew solid write-ups thanks to the work of chef William Cody and sommelier William Saulnier." - Tim Forster

I visited the wonderful establishment at Claim 52. We parked our car right in front of the establishment, and we were there for about 15 minutes. I didn't read the parking signs well enough to realize that I parked in a spot for Venue 252. There were many empty spots and no events going on, but we were still nailed with a $50 parking ticket. Terrible end to what was a lovely day Christmas shopping, which we barely have enough disposable income for in the first place. Anyway, Venue 252 is negatively affecting the other businesses with their stupid policy. My partner said he may not want to stop at Claim 52 again because of this.

My Event Service Rental Company, Caught In The Act Entertainment, has done many events there, and the staff is very polite, and attention to detail is their middle name. No matter the size of your event, they'll be there, but you'll hardly notice. Great job, Venue 252!

Beautiful atmosphere, polite and wonderful staff. This is a great place to hold company parties, large catered events, holiday parties, wedding receptions and any kind of party you can think of.

Very cool venue with loads of space! The lobby area is vaulted and has ample open room for a cocktail hour. Bathrooms are high-quality with plenty of stalls to accommodate a big party. I attended an auction for a local non-profit and had a fantastic time. The staff were floating around without a sound (important at an auction) and giving excellent service! I would 100% recommend this space!

The venue is wonderfully unique and versatile. The location and parking are more than convenient. The food is exquisite. The staff is curious and friendly. Amy, the sales manager, good far beyond her duties, to make sure her clients are happy and the event is amazing.

Yelp
This place has tqken the entire parking lot which was used by Bounce. Bounce is a gymnasium for children, they have classes all day and charge very little. It is a local small business. PC "market of choice" or Price Choppers as they should still be called are a bunch of rich greedy jerks who don't care if parents have to walk children in the dark for a block because there may be an "event." Sucks on principle. The end.

Yelp
We recently had my son's wedding and reception here and it was great. Jennifer and all the staff were very helpful and accommodating. The food was good and the facility itself is clean and trendy. I highly recommend it.

Yelp
We booked Venue 252 for an evening wedding reception in July 2017. I recommend them highly. The staff was very accessible over the months leading up to the event and worked extensively with us on the layout of the rooms & lobby, decorations (which we did ourselves), catering (we met in person with the chef & an assistant), where to locate a marimba band, how to arrange intimate seating groups, and many, many other details. One example: we had fabric wall hangings for one room and they used a scissor lift to install them for us. No matter what we asked, the response was "let's try to make that happen" and they almost always could. The outdoor marriage ceremony was the same morning & Venue 252 was prepared to quickly set up to host the ceremony if it rained (it didn't; but they were ready). Other features: there are 2 large monitors in the Gallery Space, where we looped a slideshow of the bride & groom; the wireless PA system was good; servers were polite and cheerful; buffet food was well prepared and nicely presented; the building is historic but the interior space/decor is urban chic, which is a nice alternative for Eugene. Lots of natural wood accents. Tons of free parking right across the street. All and all, we give them a big thumbs up.
