Vermillion Restaurant and Watering Hole

The half order nachos with steak & guac were solid and good amount. The roast beef sandwich was mediocre. Service was decent. The wine not good qualityand limited selection.

Went for my birthday lunch with my work crew. As always, food and service were great. Always hits the spot. And the whole restaurant sang happy birthday. That made it even better. Thank you for the hospitality

All my life living in Brownsville (34 years) and this is my first time here! Flavorful fajita, soft and good portion on my Tampiqueña plate…all the were good. Only thing is the tortillas, if you don’t eat the tortilla fast, it gets hard quick. (Maybe just mine that day) I didn’t mind at all I just left it. My husband got the Nachos, he enjoyed his meal as well.

Well, first, my bad for not taking photos, but each of the 3 times I went, the food looked so good that I just jumped in head first. The last 2 times I had the Pancho Villa with a hand order of guac. Though I would not be able to eat the entire dish I still get it because of the option to add beef to the cheese enchiladas, to have refried beans over charro, rice 2 corn tortilla & beef tacos and some tasty crispy chips. The service is great and don’t overlook the other half of the restaurant that has bar and several televisions. The service is impeccable and friendly. The food is good to look at and even better tasting.

Wonderful place for a great meal. Prices are reasonable, portion sizes are plentiful and service is outstanding. We stop here every time we are in town. Highly recommend this restaurant.

7•27•25 It's good hadn't been here in quite some time but felt like the their traditional fajita nachos deluxe the half order very well served bit pricey for beans and cheese yet good. The enchilada plate was good to they do not do the sauce homemade just FYI it is like chilie sauce for hotdogs so kinda give n take so you get the idea. Like I said food is good but over priced, only because this place been here forever way to over rated for the main course is just a bit yet you will be served rice and beans galore..

Went twice in one week, food was great. Large portions. Wings were really good. But liked it all. Salsa was nice and hot too. Good burgers and sandwiches. No wonder they have been open as long as they have

A big shot out to this place. One of my favorite places for years. Last night I had the pleasure to celebrate my wife’s graduation it was the bomb. Itzel took care of us and the staff were perfect. I appreciate it everything came out super beautiful. We enjoyed it with out family and friends…. Thank you Ale

Iconic restaurant with excellent Mexican American food and reasonable prices. Chill vibe in the bar area and in the dining area. It's a one of a kind kinda place! The service is always impeccable. Everything on the menu is tasty from ceviche to their patty melt. They serve generous portions so come hungry. The fajita nachos are a popular staple and a large can be a shared appetizer or a shared meal. Their enchiladas are also popular with locals and come with some nachos so you use your nachos to eat your plentiful side of refried beans. The shrimp plate is fabulous with big beautiful Golden Gulf shrimp and comes with 2 sides. All the meal portions are generous. You will not leave hungry. They can accommodate large parties but it's best to call ahead. Pop in for some good hometown grub and you'll know why Vermillion has survived over 90 years.

This restaurant was my first stop when I visited Brownsville. It is lively and opens late, luckily. Not your typical tex-mex restaurant if you frequent them throughout the rest of Texas. The music bumping in the background is definitely not Mexican either, but had plenty of bass and made the place lively for sure. I made a reservation about 45 mins beforehand on a Friday night and was able to get seated within 5 minutes while others who arrived at the same time were just waiting around. They are known for their Pancho Villa plate and Fajita Nachos Deluxe with avocado. Well many reviews say avocado but they brought us guacamole. Some of the more interesting and unique menu items: Homemade fried pickles, hand-breaded onion rings, Vermillion wings (which are double fried), Homemade beans a la charra, and Zucchini melt. They also have lunch specials ranging from 8.99 - 16.29 depending on the day. We ordered the fajita nachos with guacamole, a fajita plate and Pancho Villa platter filled with beef. I also added a cheese enchilada. Of course I added a cold draft beer and one of their wine-based margaritas. Unfortunately they do not have a full bar...which is a bit of a surprise considering how long they've been in business and most Mexican food restaurants do. The fajita meat - this restaurant is not famous for their fajita meat, and it was dry like I was expecting but it did have fairly good flavor. I prefer mine cooked medium rare. The nachos - was only able to eat half of the half platter, it was just too much and reminded me of chalupas. The Pancho Villa was a pretty large plate, and the beef tacos were the real winner. The enchiladas, similar to the nachos, seemed to have a processed cheese blend on top which I wasn't a big fan of. Overall, I loved the atmosphere and ghe food was decent. Nothing really blew me away but the service was good so I will round up for yelp purposes.

The food is authentic and delicious. We love visiting this spot every time we visit the area. The server was friendly and everyone in our party enjoyed their meal. The prices are unbelievable and large portions. I needed to get a to go plate. The Mexican food is my go to order but they have other options.

I've eaten here twice for lunch with my co-workers and twice is enough for me. First time I went I had a burger that came with bbq sauce and it was absolutely drowning in the sauce. The sauce was gross in my opinion. I couldn't make myself eat it. Fries were basically raw. Second visit I got the fried chicken sandwich. It's very large, but not much taste and again the fries were under cooked. My co worker got the double fried wings and I tried one and we both agreed they are overly salty. Both visits we ordered the fajita Nachos and those were pretty good. I like how every chip had the toppings. Service is good, but I'll try other places before choosing to go back.

This place is a must when in Brownsville Texas! Food: The "nachos deluxe" are to die for! They are spot on every time. The beer is the coldest in town and served in nice frosty glasses! Service: Everyone feels like a local...great service, friendly wait staff! Ambiance: It's a place that as soon as you enter, you feel like a local! It's been around since 1934 and they haven't lost their touch!

I was in Brownsville for 3 days & nights for business meetings and an event. I Had the best Mexican food ever, amazing tacos with delectable flavors. At vermillion , the food was delicious, fresh and served quickly with a smile. A bit noisy and crammed, the place is a great lunch spot where locals come to get great food.

Vermillion is a must when visiting Brownsville. They food is always good. We get the Irish Nachos for appetizer and Pancho Villa for dinner or tacos. Absolutely delicious!

It just was not the same.... Maybe there is a new cook or something but the taco meat was tasteless. They do not have flautas anymore....i was disappointed

Always love the nachos, shrimp and ceviche is delicious. Hamburgers are huge and yummy. You wont be disappointed.

Great service and friendly waitress. Wife had the Lite Fajitas beef which she said was very good. The bowl of beans really stood out as well. I had the Panch Villa which consisted of 2 beef tacos in a perfect soft shell, 2 cheese enchiladas with a side of chopped white onion and rice (outstanding) and refried beans (Yum). Both were on the Tuesday special and again I'd recommend. I had driven by here so many times (we are Winter Texans) but lot was always packed and I have a big F250 which is hard to fit. My wife said park across the street. She sometimes has the best ideas. Sorry we are leaving soon and if possible will try to get back before that. Oh, I got a millionaire pie to go and it looks amazing. Hope to have it tonight to satisfy my sweet tooth. Highly recommend. Not Fancy but lots of regulars so you know it's going to be good!

This place is not bad, my wife liked the grilled shrimp tacos and would get them again. I had the beef fajita nachos, the waiter said they are a top seller. I was a little disappointed, they had way to much guacamole on them and not like a traditional nacho chip. Also, not sure what the vibe vibe this place is working on..... Mexican or American? They had zero chips and salsa as you wait for your food, I was disappointed.

I am only takin' 'bout the panchos since that is the only thing I have ever ordered here I've seen their other plates but never tried 'em I'm sure they're good but let me tell you, you can't go wrong with their panchos. Staff is friendly and atmosphere is pretty quiet.

Clean, organized, and well maintained environment. The staff were very attentive and friendly. As soon as we sat down, they wasted no time with helping us. Food was delicious, well priced for such big servings. Very satisfied! I will visit again!

Another recommended place. We were in Brownsville to hang loose, and we got turned on to this place. Not too familiar with the history of the restaurant, but around for 60 years. Our recommendation had been going there since he was 4 years old. Now he's 44. We had to make reservations, but not needed, but recommended. I finally had a yuenling beer, draft, it went well with my meal. Bathrooms are clean!

I came here to have a dinner with my colleagues while I was visiting Brownsville for work. The menu is written in English and Spanish. They have two separate sections. One is a regular restaurant and other is bar. They have a music band play. I asked the waitress what she would recommend. She recommended Enchiladas. So I had it. I loved the sauce over it. Also the chips are very tasty. The portion was pretty big. I could not finish everything. The service is super friendly and I highly recommend this place.

Found Vermillion on Yelp! and we are really happy that we did. The customer service is amazing (we mentioned that this is our first visit; we're not from around here). Remember to allow at least 10 minutes to read the menu. The. Best. Rice. Of. My. LifetimeCharro beans to match. Everything homemade daily from scratch, and free password-protected WiFi. I'm traveling with an impatient companion who is not amenable to delays, even Yelp! review posting type delays, but here is the bottom line: we live in Austin, and we will be back to Vermillion Brownsville (there is a second location in Harlingen). We will ask for Daisy, but you can't go wrong: we had amazing service from everyone.

Best fresh nachos ever! Not one soggy mushy nacho. All crispy crunchy nachos. Brought our entire family here and everyone loved it. Great place and excellent mexican food.

Hadn't been to this Brownsville gem in quite some time. Their nachos and ceviche are STILL AMAZING! The customer service was beyond friendly. The ambiance was lively ...even though they were pretty packed... they handled it very well.

Good value for the money, good food quality but not very creative, just same oh same oh. Come here in 10 years, and nothing will change. Service was extremely slow even though it was 3 in the afternoon. The staff was very busy talking to one another.

Centrally located in Brownsville near businesses and main roads. i went for lunch with 3 other Winter Texans. We all enjoyed out meals and will come again

I have visited vermilion for the last 10 years and today was the last. The only good thing about the service was the young man that brought our drinks, friendly and customer service was great. Our waitress was okay. We always order the deluxe nachos because they are good but not today, they were flavorless and so greasy that my party had bad indigestion. I notified the waitress and stated she would discount the smaller meal but when she handed us the ticket she stated she couldn't and we would have to talk to the manager. I even told the cashier and she stated 'oh, no' but didn't state she would let anyone know. I remember when the full deluxe was a big portion but the potion size has gotten small but the price has increased. I get it, prices are higher since dumb and dumber have been in office but at least serve the same quality as before. Good bye Vermilion.

They were packed when we visited on Sunday. The food and the service were good. My friend and I paid closed to $60 including the tip for lunch without alcohol. It's so overpriced for the quality of the food and ambiance.

The food is hot and good, the service is excellent. My wife and I will continue to visit this place till it exists. The restaurant is comfy and cozy suitable for families and buddies having a few. The ambiance is just perfect. Beef Fajita, Fajita Nachos Deluxe, Beef ribs, Chicken Fajita and many more.

Classic old time diner with comfort food. Our first visit here and the staff was excellent. Friendly and truly customer service focused. They were absolutely the BEST staff we've encountered in five years of wintering in South Texas. Hand breaded on premises onion rings were a hit - as was the Mexican food platter with enchiladas. Food was served hot and promptly and the portions were generous and priced fairly. We will try turn.

This Brownsville staple never seems to disappoint when it comes to friendly service and tasty food. If I would you I would get the Fajita Nachos Deluxe -- I'm a big boy and when I order the "full" portion I can barely get it all down. They are amazing!

Their Ribeye nachos are the best along with their tasty salsa. If very hungry, the tampiquena is an all time favorite too.

Went here while visiting out of town per instructions from a close friend who is a Brownsville native. At first, the parking lot is a bit crammed, but it can actually fit quite a few people once you set in and settled. This place had been around a long time, and for good reason. Don't think you're going to get a basket of free chips and salsa here. Then menu is vast and the inside is rather small. They are currently requiring all patrons wear masks upon entering. We were instructed to get the fajita nachos and then I elected for the fajita salad. The nachos were superb, minus the few greasy chips on the bottom. The guacamole they serve, which you ask for on the side, was massive. The salad has so much water on the bottom, that I had to be careful not to slosh it in the patter the salas was originally served it. It was literally dripping from the lettuce, so please, maybe strain the lettuce before serving to folks. Water was tap, so for anyone not a fan of that, there's that bit of info. The waitress was very nice, and had been there for 38 years. They must treat their wait staff well!! We will likely come back, just take off some of the water from the salad. Highly recommend the nachos and the pricing was really fair for what you get.
