The 11 Best Cuban Restaurants in LA

"Versailles Cuban Restaurant shares the same name as the world-famous restaurant on Miami’s Calle Ocho, where you’ll frequently find Cuban abuelos sipping on a cafecito and yelling about politics in 80% humidity. You won’t stumble upon political commentary or too many grandpas at this Palms spot, but you definitely will find some excellent food. The house specialty is the roasted garlic chicken that comes generously seasoned with lemon juice to the point that the acidity coats the bird’s golden skin. The entire half-chicken is super juicy and gets drenched in Versailles’ garlic sauce that is strictly reserved for garlic’s top 5% of fans. This sauce is intense, but delicious when paired with the chicken’s lemon juice and the sweetness of your fried plantains that come as a side." - sylvio martins

Versailles Cuban Restaurant Review - Palms - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Versailles Cuban Restaurant shares the same name as the world-famous restaurant on Miami’s Calle Ocho, where you’ll frequently find Cuban abuelos sipping on a cafecito and yelling about politics in 80% humidity. You won’t stumble upon political commentary or too many grandpas at this Palms spot, but you definitely will find some excellent food. The house specialty is the roasted garlic chicken that comes generously seasoned with lemon juice to the point where the acidity coats the bird’s golden skin. The entire half-chicken is super juicy and gets drenched in Versailles’ garlic sauce that's really strictly for garlic’s top 5% of fans. This sauce is intense, but delicious when paired with the chicken’s lemon juice and the sweetness of the fried plantains that come as a side. Food Rundown Garlic Chicken Ask yourself if you’re into garlic, and then ask again for safe measure because this chicken is no joke. The marinade that coats this glossy chicken is very pungent, and the side of mojo is there for the real garlic enthusiasts in need of some more heat while the white wine also helps bring some nice acidity. In case you need a break, you can snack on the side of fried plantains for some sweet relief. Ropa Vieja Versailles’s ropa vieja is cooked until it pulls apart effortlessly and sits in a savory tomato sauce with some sweet bell peppers, plenty of onion, and a splash of white wine that adds some delicious tartness to the dish. If you’re looking for something hearty (or a plate of food that’ll hug you back), get this. Rabo Encendido This oxtail stew is a mish-mosh of textures and flavors from its tender salted meat, bits of fat, bright tomato sauce, and hints of acid from the dish’s wine. The beef pulls apart effortlessly in its salty sauce that most definitely should get scooped up with the side of white rice. Beef Empanadas There are fried empanadas, and then there are these empanadas, which redefine what it means to be golden brown and crispy. The fried dough has a bubbly texture and the ground beef filling comes cooked in a sofrito that’s sweet and savory. Make sure to order some extras for later." - Sylvio Martins

We went to Versailles Cuban Food for dinner and had a great experience. The restaurant offers authentic Cuban cuisine at very reasonable prices in a relaxed, comfortable setting. The staff was friendly, attentive, and laid-back, making for an enjoyable evening. Three of us shared the empanadas and yuca fries as appetizers, followed by two main dishes: Versailles’ famous garlic chicken (half a roasted chicken served with rice, beans, and plantains) and the Bistec de Palomilla (grilled flank steak with rice, beans, and plantains). The food was excellent—flavorful, plentiful, and satisfying. We visited on a Friday night. Although it was busy, we were seated right away. The atmosphere is casual and inviting—perfect for a relaxed meal with family or friends.

Google
Lots of sourness. I don’t doubt it’s authentic Cuban food, but if you aren’t used to very acidic dishes, it can be rather off putting. The chicken was well seasoned but overcooked and dry inside. Oxtail stew was lovely, tender and flavorful, nicely rendered fat without the meat being overcooked.

Google
Visiting from out of town. This place is amazing. The service was great. The food was amazing. We had their specialty chicken and the beef stew. So flavorful. Prices were good, about $20 to 25 per dish but we could have shared a plate and not leave hungry. Will definitely recommend.

Google
Hey you guys I have been going to Versailles for years now since I was younger and I will say out of all the years I been going I mostly get great food and service when I actually dine in but baby that delivery be kicking my butt sometimes because it's so hit and miss they do package it well but sometimes I think the driver might have to many deliveries because the food be mediocre and I do not like that but when I dine in or have a great driver the food is really good. They are always very nice when I order. I always get the chicken with extra sauce because that sauce be hittin every time. And I the pork with the beans and rice omg it's so good when it's good right that damn sauce they use is just so 🔥🔥🔥. The one on LA Cienega is smaller. The salad is just ok nothing spectacular.

Google
Really great food and serving sizes. My friend and I had the garlic chicken with the rice and bean mixture for the side. Was super tasty. Very reasonably priced for the amount of food you receive. Attentive staff and easy to find parking (if it’s not too busy). Empanadas were a great appetizer!!

Google
We ate here last night for the first time and it was yummy! We had the garlic chicken and the shredded pork. We also had spinach and beef empanadas. I loved the shrimp ones and a friend loved the ground beef ones - they were all delicious! The entrees come with black beans, rice, plantains - which are a meal in themselves. Definitely worth visiting!

Google
Revisited one of our favorite restaurants in LA after moving away nearly 20 years ago. The food was as good we remembered. For a family of 4 we should have ordered 3 entrees as the portions were huge.

Google
We've enjoyed the food and service here for a few years, but yesterday something was off with our food. The server was extremely friendly and his smile was infectious. We sat outside and it was a nice sunny day in LA. Our waiter after checking on us observed that the tamales sat untouched and I said " not tasty " The Corn Tamale with pork was dry, tasteless and sat in a bath of liquid with raw onions scattered over, not appealing to the eye at all. My chicken wings were overdone but I was able to eat them, the pesto sauce made this doable. The salad and the bread were the best of our order. Perhaps someone was having an off day. We'll try again though.

Yelp
It's been years since I've been to this Versailles location which brings back memories. Versailles is total comfort food. Tasty proteins, black beans, rice and fries are basic but with some love and tasty when garlic is involved. The infamous garlic chicken is a go to dish. It's roasted in a garlic sauce and served with sliced onions. I get sick of eating chicken sometimes. So, I crave a tasty pork dish. Lechon asado is served similarly as the garlic chicken. Nice tender pork with that tangy, buttery, garlic marinade is a great alternative. Along with a side of fried plantains gives some contrast to the savory flavors. Great to see this place expand from years ago which was like a can of sardines. The added booths and bar area make the experience here a bit more breathing room and comfortable. Service here is on point and warm.

Yelp
The food is seriously so good, but I got insanely sick after eating the chicken dish (which they are most known for) literally down for about two days with food poisoning and the worst stomach pain I've ever had. Unfortunately can't trust coming back here to try again after that first time, but it was delicious no doubt. I haven't had food poisoning in over 8+ years so they need to quality check.

Yelp
I have been coming to this restaurant for the past 10 years, ever since my son attended UCLA. It has always been a favorite spot for me, offering a comfortable and familiar atmosphere. However, my recent visit was disappointing. I invited friends to join me on a Friday, and despite the restaurant not being very busy, we were not attended to for about 15 minutes. The service felt uncoordinated, and the team did not seem to work well together. As for the food, I noticed a decline in quality. The oxtail dish was overly salty, and my wife couldn't finish her meal. It's disheartening to see this change, as I used to enjoy the flavors here. I truly hope the management takes steps to improve team coordination and ensure better quality control by tasting their own dishes. I would love to see this restaurant return to the high standards I once appreciated.

Yelp
All of my LA-based Cuban friends have said that this is the spot, and they were not wrong! We ordered way too much food, but could not help ourselves because we wanted to try a little bit of everything. The Ropa Vieja was cooked to perfection, the yucca fries were addicting, and the black beans were so delicious! The portions are plentiful and you will leave very full or with leftovers. My husband and I were impressed and satisfied and will be back next time we visit LA.

Yelp
This place has so much culture and the food is so delicious. I would love to come back and try more from the menu! Empanadas 5/5 Chicken dish 5/5 Oxtails 5/5 Plantains 4/5

Yelp
Food was great! It well prepared and very flavorful. I enjoyed the tamales they were nice and moist and the ropa vieja was very filling and hit the spot! The papa rellenas were yummy! Service was on point; we were greeted multiple times by different staff and were very attentive for drink refills. Came with a party of 6. Everyone enjoyed their meals and took some home. Portion sizes are pretty big and can be split between two people of moderate appetites and enough for a hungry teen. Con: Parking is extremely limited so might have to park on the street. I would come back again!

Yelp
Cuban cuisine is definitely on my food carousel! Pork, beef, and chicken. With knowing guests ordered Ejemplos De Versailles Sampler Plate, consisting of Ham Croquettes, Papa Rellena, andTamales y masas de puerco. Broke da mout! I had to have the Famoso Pollo Versailles, Famous Garlic Chicken (lunch) A juicy 1/4 half chicken marinated in a delicious garlic sauce garnished with sliced onions. A side of moros y cristianos (rice and beans cooked together) and fried plantains. Goodness!

Yelp
Versailles on Venice Blvd is a vibe! The minute you enter you'll be welcomed by delicious scents coming from the kitchen, the hustle of the waiters and staff trying to make everyone comfortable. I drive by almost everyday and you'll always see their parking lot full. My first time I tried this location was during the pandemic. I only ordered a cuban sandwich for pick up but I knew I had to come back to experience inside. We tried the lomo salteado, chicken wings, salmon filet, fried plantain, and cappuccino. The logo and salmon come with white rice and black beans. The lomo salteado which it's actually a Peruvian Dish, was good... beef could be more tender but it was decent. The chicken wings were delicious! Highly recommended. The Salmon filet was basic, nothing special but cooked well and very good. The cappuccino and fried plantain (plantain maduro) was delicious :) Great staff who seem to know people by name! TV screens available if you want to catch a Dodger game. Bar sitting also available.

Yelp
Every time my parents are in town, they insist on coming to Versailles for Cuban food and I'm not complaining. The food is always good and the portions are always generous. Among my and my parents' favorites: Ejemplos De Versailles Sampler Plate - always so good and has a great variety of appetizers. Chicken Wings - the wings have amazing flavor and I love the sauce it comes with Famoso Pollo Versailles - Versailles Famous Garlic Chicken - definitely famous for a reason! Always excellent Sandwich Cubano - Really delicious! Carne Con Papas - Beef Stew - My parents especially love this one; if you love beef and/stews, this one's for you! Dulce de leche cheese cake - Heavenly! Definitely order it if you see it in the dessert case. You won't regret it. As for parking, Versailles has a parking lot in front and there are usually spots available.

Yelp
The lechon asada was juicy and tender. The crispy edges were a nice addition. I was impressed with my meal and left full and happy. The service was quick and efficient.

Yelp
We had lunch here today. They are known for their garlic roast chicken, served with rice, black beans and plantains. The meal was good. The customer service was outstanding. They make sure you have a good meal and experience. Parking is a bit difficult, but it's worth it for the food.
google avatar

Yelp
I personally always enjoy the half chicken dinner with all the garlic and onions. My wife likes the pork dinner. The quality of service can vary a lot here from good to poor. They've been around here for a long time and they definitely have a consistent crowd.

Yelp
I hadn't been to Versailles since I first moved to LA about 25 years ago, but not much has changed. The Garlic Chicken is still their number one offering. My hubby had it and enjoyed it. I had arroz con pollo which was also tasty - I'm a big fan of the plantains. The ambiance is more diner than dining room and not much has changed over the years. Service was friendly and attentive. Prices have gone up, but it's still a good value.

Yelp
It was my first time trying Cuban food and it did not disappoint! The food was delicious! I got the spinach and beef empanadas, yucca fries, and lechon asodo. Everything was super flavorful! I really loved the lechon asodo-- it was juicy and super tender to eat. The place always comes with complimentary garlic bread. Staff and service were super nice and quick! This spot welcomes large parties.
google avatar

Dominic N.

Yelp
I liked: Free Bread Ham Croquette Arroz Con Pollo This was ok: Garlic Chicken The free bread being the #goodeats here should kinda tell you how I feel about this place lmao. The garlic chicken is super lemony. With or without the sauce, it's still not good enough for me to recommend over other chicken, especially at $21 bucks. Parking sucks here but that's expected for LA. Service is good. They checked up on us often and bussed plates as we finished. There's a surprising amount of space inside and it's quite busy.
google avatar

Katrina V.

Yelp
The service is of course very good And the ambiance at this location to me kind of soaks up an Old World vibe. You must try the Cuban lechon, it's a must have. Cuban lechon is probably Versailles restaurant's house specialty. The waiters and the people here are very nice. The Cuban flavours of the food are so delicioso.

Yelp
So we been going to this place for quite awhile , we go here for the #6 Versailles Famous Garlic Chicken!!! Also we tried #10 Top Sirloin Steak. We also tried #2 fired Pork Chunks. The Famous Garlic Chicken never disappoint every time we come by the food I how I liked it to taste but it's on the lemony some times I get more sauce and sometime I just keep it they way they serve me! The other 2 dishes are good as well but can't make a full review on the food yet but soon enough! Did not eat too much so I will order again and I'm sure they won't let me down to have more favorites! The location and parking is sometimes a hit and mis. I'm sure there is valet on the weekend. The employees that work there are doing their best, but it would be great to come more often to give us some water fill before we asked you and you forgot to get coke where one of my family members had to ask 2 times as our server was doing to many things to focus on the order. Would I recommend this place yes the food and the location and atmosphere is something to go and see but if your interested on some lemony and garlic flavor then this is the place for you!
google avatar

Robert G.

Yelp
Francisco was our server and he did a great job. The service was prompt and professional. The restaurant was clean and the ambiance was there. I had an early starter of plantains, and later got the traditional chicken plate along with the beans, rice, and more plantains. This place is legendary, and for good reason.
google avatar

Jenny T.

Yelp
Service was a bit curt today, but the food delivered as per usual! It was pretty busy since they closed off Venice for bikers and pedestrians so everyone was at Versailles. There was a line for the bathroom LOL. Got to try the oxtail stew which was super beefy and rich in flavor. Favorite dish is still the lechon asado. Pro tip: ask for a side of the garlic sauce with onions to enhance any dish you get!
google avatar

Anthony D.

Yelp
GET THE CHICKEN! Best chicken around. Always juicy and flavorful. We usually do pickup orders but have dined in a few times. All locations are always helpful. Great for families as well!
google avatar

Yelp
Papas Rellenas 4 deep fried mashed potato balls w/ minced meat inside Chicken Empanadas 4 non-spicy, juicy inside Plantain 3 normal Cubano sandwich 3 lots of ham, cheese

Yelp
I always stop her when I am in town and have been eating here since 1987. The food is always consistently delicious and staff is pleasant. Dining inside is always a good experience not too loud. All in all a great place to eat when in culver city
google avatar

Rocio C.

Yelp
Super delicious, I will continue to drive an hour for this delicious food. If you have a significant other make sure they eat this delicious garlicky food too lol because it's garlicky yumm!! We tried the garlic chicken and chicken fillet yum yummy. Staff were fine no issues with their customers service. Music is fine, not too loud, just fine. There's plenty of seating inside and out side, parking on site. Check them out

Yelp
Haven't been to Versailles longer than I can count, but I've always had a fond memory of this original location. I'm glad they're still open and they did not disappoint. The place is simple and rustic. There's ample space so it doesn't feel crowded. Servers are friendly and attentive. We ordered Tamales stuffed with pork, which was very good and Yuca Frita - which was a bit dry for me. I had their Lechon Asado, which our server recommended as their specialty, a Cuban style roasted pork and my friend ordered Rabo Encendido - Oxtail Stew - which for me, was better than the roasted pork. All in all good food. Easy parking right in front of the restaurant.
google avatar

Donna A.

Yelp
Still a great place! We dined in tonight, 8/24/24. I ordered the famous chicken and my hubby ordered the lechon plate. We both really enjoyed our meals. The bread is garlicky. The plantain was good. Service was good as well. Parking is easy. Ambiance was relaxing. Highly recommend.

Yelp
My wife and I went here with friends of ours, a group that wants to try different Ethnic foods, and when I used to live in the Valley, we came here about once every month or so. Since we moved away, we hadn't been back in a while, and when our group asked me what we should try, everybody agreed this would be a good choice in Encino. We had Ejemplares De Versailles - Versailles Sampler Plate, Lechon Asado - Cuban Style Roasted Pork, Famoso Pollo Versailles - Versailles Famous Garlic Chicken, Pollo En Salsa Barbacoa - Barbecue Chicken, Bistec a La Colombiana - Colombian Style Steak. All the dishes were very good and everybody enjoyed sharing the dishes. Waiter was attentive and did make some suggestions. We didn't rush our lunch and chatted and enjoyed ourselves. All agreed that this restaurant is worth repeating. ---- I wish I had taken photos of our meals, but unfortunately, I had a camera malfunction after the first couple photos of the restaurant interior.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place but it's disgusting. We were served rancid beans, and meat that was swimming in so much oil it had no discernible flavour. They somehow made meat that is drowning still dry. It was a horrendous miracle of sorts. The rice was dry and old, the beans were rancid, and the meat was vile. The plantains weren't bad though. Service was kind so I gave two stars, otherwise a pure 0/10.
google avatar

Stephanie H.

Yelp
7A for the past 25 years!!!! It used to be $7.50 and the line used to be out of the door and we were waiting with dizaine of families. It's more upscale now and of course things got more expensive but it still taste the same. Some of the waiters have been there for so many years, it's nice to see familiar faces.
google avatar

Audrey I.

Yelp
Delicious food. Friendly and attentive service. I like the vintage feeling inside the restaurant, I also really enjoyed the fresh sangria!
google avatar

Jennifer H.

Yelp
This is my first time at this location, and it's been a few years since I've been to Versailles, but the food is still on point. We ordered chicken and spinach empanadas and ropa vieja to share. Portions are generous, and everything is well seasoned and delicious. I'm no empanada expert, but these are quite possibly the best empanadas I've ever had. They were hot, flavorful, and delicious! The ropa vieja was ok, not my favorite but not bad. The plantains and moros were delicious! I also always enjoy their free buttery bread. Overall, I would stop in again if I were in the area.
google avatar

Yvette S.

Yelp
Food is good. However, this is not the first, this is the SECOND time they mess up my to go order. Last time they "forgot" my chicken soup, and this time they "forgot" my plantains. I shouldn't have to verify that my order is correct before driving home! And since it's too much of a hassle to drive back I take the loss. Horrible for to-go ordering and would never do it again, unfortunately. If you choose to, check before leaving and don't trust that they will include what you paid for.

Yelp
This review is meant for the La Cienega location. Not the Palm location. I remember dining here three times, loving the food in the past before the pandemic lockdown. Passing by on La Cienega, i saw it was open on a Saturday esrly evening so i pulled into the small mini mall parking lot. Usually the parking is a challenge, but so thrilled a parking space right at the entrance...happy to have another great dining experience. A casual place...not much in the way of decor or ambiance. I was approached but not greeted at the door by a tall male grumpy waiter who didn't seem too pleased I wanted to order takeout. Understandable, no tip right? Anyway when I was ready to order, he brushed past and told me to wait. Happily another waiter kindly and immediately took my order: he was very friendly and welcoming. When I paid, I tipped him 15 percent for being friendly and treating me like a valued customer. The three stars for a mixed service experience and the food was average ..chicken was dry and the yellow rice super gummy. ....basically disappointing and expensive. The arroz con pollo....a lot of random chicken bones not attached to any meat found underneath the yellow rice. The pork and chicken combo with black beans were better, but in both cases, the pieces of plantains seemed old hard and leftover. Really was so excited to eat here again. ALAS.

Yelp
Open coming here for many many many years, I understand that after we had that problem with the germ in 2020 things have changed. This place was a great restaurant and now , just a mediocre place with average Cuban food. I could not recommend this place there are many other places in the city of Downey that are much better. I wish them well Service ok
google avatar

John F.

Yelp
This place is the Bomb! Hands down. Good themes , service , never been disappointed! Since I started going there the prices have probably but hey I've been going there 25 years at least! Owners are no longer visible but I love them. I understand by way of one of the waiter we lost the dad, who started the place he was a treasure, and what a sense of humor! You decide which is better the chicken or the pork! Can not go wrong either way! One last thing now that I'm in San Diego, I get mine most to go and they don't provide in my opinion enough rice (moros) for me always!

Jasmine U.

Yelp
Undeniable great, flavorful food. Ordered the Chicken & Yellow Rice - but the meal was overpriced! $20 for an over serving of rice, small chicken thigh and leg. Why am I paying $20 for rice?! Benny's Taco's which is just down the street offers TWO chicken breasts and two sides for the same value.
google avatar

Andie B.

Yelp
(Re-posted: I mistakenly posted this in the Pico-Robertson Versailles last night. Haha) My favorite for Oxtails. They have an Oxtail Stew in their menu. I've continued to patronize this place including after I moved a bit farther from here. Since I moved, I have used the delivery services (Doordash or Grubhub). Last weekend (August 20), I did a Grubhub pickup and it was a pleasant visit. The hostess was nice and even asked if I wanted utensils. Many restaurants/eateries don't provide utensils anymore even if you checked the box. Other popular items here are their Garlic Chicken and Roasted Pork. They serve them with rice and black beans, and fried plantains. Parking spots have been less since the pandemic because they had to create an outdoor-seating area. Which is fine since covid seems to never go away. Anyway, delicious food and nice hostess.

Yelp
Always a favorite. Food is still the same as we remember 20 years ago. Perfectly garlic chicken and fall off the bone oxtail stew. It is a cozy family restaurant that accommodated our party of 8 on Sunday night without a reservation.
google avatar

Yelp
Food is amazing, service is very good. Ambiance is ok but it's their vibe. Margaritas are very delicious. Happy hour deals are great. Easy parking. We definitely enjoy going often. I would highly recommend trying out!

Yelp
The food was fantastic. I think the service could of been better upon arrival (if took a while like 10mins @ bar b4 asked.."what drink u like?" Of course while waiting 4 a table b/c it was starting to get busy for a Saturday night. The location is so so but it is what it is... I would definitely come back & tell others.

Yelp
This establishment has been at this location for quite awhile; long before the pandemic. The restaurant has remodeled, Always clean an inviting. Service is always excellent. The Garlic Chicken is one of their signature meals. Many other dishes I have tried, were also very tasty. The garlic sauce over meals makes an excellent dish more excellent. Their Plantain, Steak, Black Beans, all excellent. Over the years, the taste has not changed. A wonderful place to dine in or take to go.

Yelp
We come here when we have a family dinner with my parents. Food is always good. Service is always excellent, everyone who works there are always nice & kind. I don't recall when service was bad. I look forward to the frijoles negros my favorite so i get the vegetarian plate. The vibe of the place is so positive it's a family environment. I give it a 5 out of 5.

Yelp
I love the plantains and rice, it goes with everything on the menu. My go to is that breaded steak dish.
google avatar

Yelp
I would die for the food here. This may be the closest I get to comfort food. Their arroz con pollo is my life line.
google avatar

Yelp
It's nice to see some things have never changed. Great service and great food and unlike the original. They have a nice size parking lot. It's bright it's open and it's tasty and reasonably priced.

Yelp
Took my son for his birthday because he loves the food. Family and friends loved the food as well. I usually order the Bistec De Pollo which is my fave but I decided to try the White Fish w/ garlic and butter sauce, that was yummy as well. Don't forget the complimentary butter bread . The service has always been great w/ family oriented vibes. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
Went to celebrate a friends birthday after having visited Havana with them I didn't like the rice and beans. They were very dry I thought the plantains were a little bland too They have some things for vegetarians but the options are ok

Yelp
I ordered using UBER EATS with 3 other co-workers. They all got the sandwiches which they loved but they all said " The fries were trash, rubbery, and no flavor. I was a little confused on how my oxtails could be fall off the bone but still be tough. This was a new talent that I haven't discovered. Now you know/ feel that the oxtails need a couple more hours put them as not available and let them cook to perfection. Money is too tight to be spending on a half a$$ job. People work to hard to paid $30.00 for four pcs of tail and have to use their teeth and someone else's to chew their meat. I gave this a second chance and I will not be ordering the oxtails again. Now in my previous post I stated that " I wouldn't order the fish unless God came down and cooked it himself because it was $60.00. They drop the cost to $40.00 and I got it. Haven't tried it yet but I'll post an update later. The fish was in much need of seasoning.
