The 15 Best Restaurants At Newark Airport 2024 - New York - The Infatuation

"This tavern near Gate 81 has a huge menu that covers just about every traveler’s needs, minus noise-canceling headphones. There are sandwiches, steaks, salads, and snacks like sidewinder fries—a cross between steak and curly fries—that can tide you over during a quick layover. The salmon kale grain bowl is one of those rare airport dishes that keeps you full but is still kind of healthy, and has a gochugaru glaze to keep everything zingy and moist. " - Anne Cruz

I ordered a Bloody Mary ($21) and club sandwich ($24). The fries were soft and soggy. The sandwich had a few small diced tomatoes, small soggy pieces of lettuce, and the meat is all clumped in the middle. No one waits on you. You order through the QR code and they deliver the food. No one asks you if you need anything or how the food tastes. When you order the food, you’re asked to tip right then. Personally, I don’t think tipping is appropriate when no one waits on you, let alone even says “hello” or any other word to you; however, I didn’t really want the people who are cooking and bringing my food to the table to know I didn’t tip. Music was blaring entirely too loud and the restaurant was very warm.

Google
I loved this place. The service was quick. I got the avocado toast with an extra side of bacon and everything was of good quality and well made. The only bad thing is the ordering system they have, which works weird if you are not connected to their WiFi.

Google
The vesper at the airport sucked for me. I ordered the poached eggs with hollandaise and they were hard as a Rock and very little sauce. Plus it took 20 minutes and as you can see from the photos, they were very slow. Several orders of pancakes came out ahead of mine. It's like the cook could only make one order at a time. Dont waste your money. The only bright spot was the waitress gave me a refund and took the plate directly to the cook and complained as I was leaving. I left her a nice tip.

Google
Good airport restaurant & bar. I was early so it wasn't busy. The bar staff was nice and attentive, food was fast and good, and prices were normal for being in an airport. A good chill place to sit and eat while waiting for my flight.

Bryan Travis

Google
TL;DR: avoid this place. You order food at a kiosk or QR code on a table. One person cooking food. Been waiting 20 minutes for a Caesar salad, so I can’t rate the food. The person who watches over the bags of chips and bottled water appeared, and she’s currently checking on my and someone else’s orders. Meanwhile I have a flight to board soon.

Google
This place has pretty good food. I got a breakfast burrito which was cooked nicely and a side of potatoes. The potatoes were also cooked well but they were sliced super thin. I imagine this made cooking quicker and they were a good mix of crispy and soft but they also were extremely hard to eat with a fork. Service here was fine. I don’t love how no one greets you and you are expected to sit yourself and order through a QR Code. No one came by to check on me for quite some time. And you were asked to tip before receiving any service. I generally don’t like QR code ordering. The interior is clean and they have plugs for device charging at every table for both computers and cell phones.

Google
The breakfast burrito was tasty and filling. The salsa verde was a nice spice level for breakfast. The old fashioned could benefit from a cherry and simple syrup.

Matthew

Google
This was a nice dinner spot for our layover. The ordering process started on the kiosk. I ordered sweetish meatballs and my partner ordered wings, Mac and cheese, and shrimp. The Mac and cheese had a distinct flavor. The meatballs did as well. The wings were good. If we ever return this is what I would order. The pricing is on par for airport food. The service was good though.

Yelp
Looks great when you walk by but not worth the $$ It was nice to be able to sit in a booth while I waited for my flight. I also enjoyed the jazz music they had playing. It was at the perfect volume. Food wasn't terrible but I'd give it a 1 for presentation. 3 stars for the waiter who checked in on me and got me a new glass for my wine he gets 5 stars. But I spent too much money to give more than 3. I didn't really eat the food it wasn't great :/ I'd pass the next time

Yelp
It's a nice place to grab a beer before or after your flight. I stopped in last month on a layover from PR to PIT. It's a decent sized place for being inside of an airport. I sat at the bar and enjoyed a Blue Moon draft. The lady working was nice. Cool place! I'll be back. Thanks :)

Mike D.

Yelp
Had steak and eggs it was probably the worst steak and eggs I ever had the eggs are okay. The steak was overcooked burnt small portion. For $34 it was the worst meal I think I've ever had for breakfast. No wonder they have you pay up front .
google avatar

Yelp
Note to self: never ever come here again. Half the staff ignores you, and then there's the QR only ordering with tipping before serving: hated it before the pandemic and it's inexcusable now. Put the two together and it's a no brainer: no tip for you and no future business from me.

Donna D.

Yelp
Very expensive airport full American breakfast that was served cold, amazing that there is no interaction with any service staff before ordering via their computer system. How do i judge a tip amount without receiving and testing the food which was cold and old. I don't normally say it but never again. Get rid of the computer system and get real staff to interact with.

Yelp
I ordered the steak sandwich wish was chewy and I had a salad instead of fries and the dressing was tangy and not very good. I give it two stars for the food. I ordered an Arnold Palmer which was made from lemonade in the soda gin and brewed ice tea, no refills!!!! Diet Coke yes but ice tea and lemonade no! The service wasn't much better you have to tip before your food comes, in the process of writing this review she tried to clear my plate twice and I'm not finished. The guy sitting next to me sat down after me but ordered a drink and got served first after she tried to give me his drink! Overall I understand airport food is airport food but this is a nice place and 50 bucks for a sandwich and a tea/lemonade and a bottle of water I expect a little more. Let's not talk about the flys that kept swirling. I asked for a manager and there was not one to be found. Should have stuck with fast food! Lesson learned two thumbs down for this place:(

Yelp
EWR is getting out of control with the crazy pricing and this place is no exception. $75 for 2 sandwiches and 2 cokes with food straight out of the freezer :(

Yelp
Heading out of town, so airport food it shall be. It could have been worse. It could have been better. Makes sense though. lol. Friendly service for sure.

Yelp
This restaurant is located in Newark Airport. The staff were friendly but busy. You must scan the barcode to view the menu and order and pay for your food and drinks through the app. The staff does not engage much because of this service and it was a bit difficult to try to get recommendations or substitutions because of this. Tip: I make sure that you know everything that you want ahead of time including drinks and dessert as you will need to create multiple orders if not. Each time you order, gratuity and tax are added.

Mike K.

Yelp
Food was ok. Staff was less than enthusiastic. They have a system that is nice until you realize it sets the tip automatically. Not cool.

Yelp
Not sure how you can mess up French fries, but this place did. Seriously?! disgusting fries? ??How is it possible? Avoid this place... many other options in terminal c

Karen L.

Yelp
Service and the food were great, not sure why the reviews are so low. I travel frequently & this was definitely one of my better airport dine in experiences. The staff were all kind and smiling. Service was quick and easy on a Wednesday evening. My burger was great, no complaints. If people are upset about the prices, welcome to the airport. Even the convenient store pricing is higher, this is just standard.

Yelp
Vesper Tavern is one of many fancy looking restaurants in Newark Airport that reinforces the idea that airport food is mostly terrible and overpriced. I wasn't super hungry. So I opted for the crispy chicken wings appetizer, which I thought was a pretty safe choice. Well, they found a way to mess it up anyway. The wings were flavorless and as dry as the Sahara. That's one place I'll make sure to stay away from next time.

Yelp
Good food. Good service. Nice music playing while dining and good vibe in the airport but the prices are high.

Yelp
This restaurant is our broken society in a microcosm. Sitting at the bar and NO ONE is here. Of course in 2025 no one greets you, say hello, ask if you need help. Scan the barcode on the counter, place your own order, pay ahead of time. I know you get screwed at airports but $83 for a 9oz wine and chicken cesar salad is f'ing criminal. Not only it's outrageous of the food pricing, they have guts asking for a tip ahead of time AND they add a 3% tax to pay for their employees "healthcare and retention". lol. and btw tip for what? this is literally conner service. i had to wave the guy down for my wine 10 min after i placed the order at an empty bar. food gets dropped off in front of me, no one asks if i need anything else or water. give me a f'ing break. oh and everyone is playing on their phones with a puss on their faces speaking spanish to each other. This is America and most of the Westernized world in 2025. Good job folks! oh and top of that my $37 salad chicken was dry. wish i had some water to wash it down.

Yelp
I visited Vesper Tavern on 04/30/2023 while waiting for my flight. You order via the QR code on the table and they bring your food within 10minutes. The food was great, but very expensive. I placed an order for the sausage as an add-on and upon them bringing my food I was told that they were out of the sausage and asked if I wanted to replace it with something not of the same value. I'm not one to make a big deal so I replaced it with fruit instead. They could've informed me of this after receiving my order instead of waiting until they brought my food out.

Yelp
This place was an exceptional find unexpectedly as I was stuck in the airport for much longer than I hoped. You order from the kiosks and then the servers bring over your food. Yes it's a tad expensive (airports, ammirite?) but the good news was the Margs were strong for $18 each! The wedge salad initially came with blue cheese but I was able to sub cheddar and get a side of ranch! Hallelujah! It was perfect. I then got a side of mashed potatoes (really good but could do without the green onions / chives), Mac and cheese (this almost felt Cajun forward in the spices they put in, LIVED for it) and not even kidding you the best wings ever that I actually took home on the plane. They were falling off the bone and so tended, but also crispy, the best dry rub I've ever had! Add that to the most amazing white bbq sauce which had a little kick but was also sweet. I couldn't stop raving about these things. If you find yourself in the Newark airport, I'd check this place out! Worth the extra $$$ unlike some of the other spots!

Yelp
Stopped here to grab a bite for breakfast. My order took forever to come so I finally asked about it and they went to check. Upon checking my French toast was in a to go back sitting on the counter. I didn't order to go and my sausage wasn't even there. So they had to ask for my sausage in which they made. Instead of giving me fresh food they just dumped the old cold French toast that was sitting for a while in that box on my plate. I was hungry and had to catch my flight so I ended up just eating it but was not satisfied. My sausage was nice and fresh but had old cold French toast.

Yelp
Beyond Overpriced and total garbage It's amazing that just cuz your in airport that this price gouging for crap food still exists and price gouging for basic snacks It's borderline theft Servers were nice at the establishment

Yelp
Eating at Terminal C at Newark seems like a choice of which terrible place is marginally better than the other awful places. I had hoped that a chicken sandwich would be hard to entirely screw up, and chose Vesper over some of the other equally low rated establishments. Alas the food had no discernible flavor other than grease, and I found a long thread that had been fried into the batter of my sandwich. Steer clear of this place.

Yelp
When I ordered my beer I noticed all the bartenders having a full blown argument with management. This went on for about 5 mins. I got my 12 dollar beer that should realistically be about 8 a few mins after their argument finished. This place is incredibly overpriced, overrated, and fully staffed with people who really don't care. Sadly this spot is the same every single time we come here. We have come early morning and late night and regardless of the time, it's the exact same service.

Yelp
This was one of the worst eating experiences I've had in recent memory. I get that it's airport food, so I was by no means expecting a gourmet meal. However, I was also not expecting something of the caliber of a lunchables pizza. For my meal I had the impossible burger and fries. The bun of burger had enough bread to be used for 5 additional burgers. It was so thick that each bite you tasted nothing but bread. A good thick bun would have been ok, if it would have came with a thick burger patty. It instead was a thin patty that had no flavor. The toppings were also ridiculous. The amount of lettuce I was given would have been enough to make a side salad out of. The burger was topped with a slab of cheese, that not only wasn't melted, it wasn't even warm. The burger and cheese could have been put in the microwave for 15 seconds to at least make it appear like they cared. The fries were also cold and came with bottled ranch. Pretty much the worst of everything with this meal. Cool setup to watch a sporting event, but make a stop at a nearby vending machine before spending money on food here.

Yelp
Bottom line: A disappointing visit at Vesper Tavern in Terminal C EWR recently. Not being able to get a club sandwich made then eating an overly covered with tartar sauce fish sandwich while having to endure the usual higher prices and tablet ordering experience just left me...disappointed. The Deets: When I stop at an airport restaurant/tavern, I usually accept that the price will be more than usual, you have to use one of those accursed tablets to order with and the experience might be a diminished one. But with stopping into Vesper Tavern in Terminal C of EWR recently, I can report that it was mainly, disappointment. After a couple of hours traveling already to get to EWR, I was a bit hungry. I sat in Vesper Tavern and entered in my choices of a club sandwich with a soda. My soda came out and the person that brought it out was helpful and cheerful (she is that second star here). After waiting a bit for my food selection, I had someone else come out to inform me that station was no longer open/available that made the club sandwich and I could make another sandwich selection. I was a bit disoriented to be honest...it took someone at a specialized station to make a club sandwich, and even beyond that, no one was available at all to put together a club sandwich for me? Well. OK. I chose the fish sandwich instead. It looked nice when it came out, but when opening it to remove the tomato I found it had an overly applied amount of tartar sauce. The fish itself was a bit crumbly so I surmised that it would defy being eaten as a sandwich but it would be best to eat the fish by fork, which I did. The fish itself was not too bad even covered by tartar sauce and the fries were decent, but the whole experience was just a let-down for me.

Yelp
Great EWR airport restaurant! Modern design, ordering is digital with scanning the QR code. Staff is friendly and helpful. Had the avocado toast w/ pouched eggs; very well made with a ton of avocados. Delicious especially after a unwarranted overnight layover! Expensive, yes, but as with any restaurants in the airport. Will definitely visit and try other items in the menu if given a chance. Keep up the good work Vesper Tavern!
google avatar

Yelp
This airport deli in Terminal C has predictably obscene airport prices. A 12 oz. soft drink was $4. Because we arrived before the 11am lunch start we could only order from the breakfast menu. Then, there was the automatic tip assessment of 18% for a server helping us place our order on a tablet. Well, she did also bring our meals. The portion sizes were very large--overly so. Large portions of scrambled eggs with a bagel like we got make it easy to understand why Americans are generally overweight. The meal could have been split by two--especially if they're not very hungry. The food was acceptable. At other times of day you can choose salads, sandwiches, sides, apps, and full meals.

Matthew D.

Yelp
Wow, might be the best restaurant in the airport! Food was so good. Loved how we scanned the menu and you can order and pay right on your phone! The service was nice and quick, and found seating very quickly. Will definitely be back here!!

Yelp
Checked out the reviews, got a bit nervous but it was the only half decent resturant located in this part of the terminal. I must admit, I'm not a fan of the iPad ordering system I like an experience, however I was pleasantly surprised. I arrived at the bar, was greeted and handed a glass of water. This was a perk, a bottle of water will cost you here - so it was much appreciated! I'm not a fan of fried food unless I know it's going to be good so I stuck with the brown sugar roasted carrots and grilled shrimp. It was perfect, just enough food, nicely seasoned and cooked to temp. I had a martini, made with Tito's the bartender did what needed to be done. Chairs are a bit close but what can you expect. If I'm back in this terminal again, I would definitely come back.

Yelp
Terrible experience today here. Ordered at 11am Cheeseburger 2 chicken fingers 1 salad 1 side of green beans Couple sprites and a pellegrino 94 bucks. 40 minutes later the burger and one chicken finger arrives. Salad arrives with ranch dressing though red wine vin is described on menu. No pellegrino in sight. When asked for red wine vin (after some hearty attitude from the waitress) she brought over a ramekin of what seemed like canola oil and sugar. Waitress seemed very confused as to what our order was and in a terrible mood. We had to catch our flight so canceled the chicken fingers to which the waiter responded that we still had time and that we were overreacting. They begrudgingly refunded the chicken and salad. Would not recommend to anyone. It was embarrassingly bad. Not busy at all. It was quite evident the staff didn't want to be there.

Matthew L.

Yelp
The food was pretty tasty (I liked the crispy chicken sandwich). friendly people and prompt service, nice atmosphere, good drink selection (including beers) and plenty of TVs.

Yelp
I really don't like leaving bad reviews but we had a horrendous experience here. This restaurant/bar is located in the United terminal. We were delayed and decided to get some food before the plane ride. We sat at the bar and were told to order off the tablets that were there. No problem. We sent our food order and waited....and waited...and waited. For 30 minutes we sat there with no one checking on us. When my fiancé's food came out I was finally able to get a glass of water. His sandwich came out before mine and we were told mine was in the way. I told him he could go ahead and eat his before it got cold. Little did I know it already was. I mean ice cold. The fries tasted like they had just come out of the fridge and the fried chicken sandwich he got wasn't much warmer at all. What is super disappointing is the flavor was really really good for both. The sandwich, if it was hot, would have been excellent. My fiancé started a timer from when he got his food to when I got mine. 20 minutes! It took 20 minutes for my club sandwich to come out and he was already finished eating. The sandwich was good and my fries were at least fresh. Overall, the food struck out since it took forever and my fiancé's was ice cold. The service wasn't good since no one checked up on us before or after our food. Thank goodness we could pay though the tablet otherwise we might have missed the plane. I'm really disappointed and wish I could give a better rating.

Yelp
Picture speaks for itself. I was served this undercooked chicken two days ago, praying I don't get sick (food poisoning usually takes 3-6 days to hit)

Yelp
Appetizer & Dinner we fantastic for us - one of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had. The online ordering system will drive me to not come back to this place. Eliminates any type of connection with bartender/waitstaff. Suggestion if they keep it : when the customer orders, keep the card on file after the first order is placed. Haven't to place three (3) different drink orders and being taxed on each is outrageous. Also - if you keep it and you order from the "Appetizer" menu, the kitchen or waitstaff should ask if you'd like the app and dinner to come at two separate times.
google avatar

Cat M.

Yelp
Corporate needs to get their act together. You can only order via an app but the app doesn't work well as there is no internet. Even when you shut the internet off your phone, the app literally spins for over 15 minutes. The bartender was wonderful with getting our drinks while we waited for the app to work. Very frustrating to force people to use an app that doesn't work.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped here for breakfast after a red eye flight from the DR. Everything here must be done by ordering on their iPad which is located at the table. I was luckily to flag down to the waitress to ask a few dietary questions before placing my order. My husband ordered the breakfast sandwich with potatoes home fries. He said it was good but definitely overpriced. He wanted an omelet but for every item it costs even more money. I ordered the two eggs, bacon and fruit. The fruit was an additional charge and my meal was over $20. My meal was not worth it at all but I needed some food. We both ordered coffee at $5 per cup. We were able to get a refill which was nice. One good thing is you can use your United card to pay for your meal with points and get 20% off your bill. Note you can also purchase pitchers of booze for your party
google avatar

William T.

Yelp
It's kind of a given that the prices here are jacked up because it's an airport, so I'll mostly ignore that the Cobb salad my wife ordered was ~$21 before tax (!) and was kind of tiny. Service was quick throughout the meal, although the tablet I used messed up and charged us for a failed transaction. My steak sandwich was pretty tasty and only cost $15 because it was part of the value lunch deal (which I ordered at 6 PM). Beer was overpriced, of course. Would probably not come back here because of the issues with the tablet, and sit-down restaurants in airports are usually not worth the cost in my opinion.
google avatar

Jeff D.

Yelp
Way overpriced for very mediocre food and the worst service I've ever had anywhere! You have to pay in advance, including tip, so they don't care if you liked your food or not, and forget about refills! Waitress was annoyed when I went up to the bar and asked for a refill of my $5 16oz Diet Coke ( which was mostly all ice). I wish I could take my tip back cause they didn't deserve one.

Yelp
Jazz cocktails decent food and nice folks working. 4 things you don't expect to find in a airport bar. 11/10.

Yelp
So this is a tough one. depending on your perspective, it could've been pretty much 5 stars, or could've been no stars at all (read below). I continue to be surprised by the quality of food at the Newark airport. Yes, it is expensive airport food (we paid $93 for dinner for a family of 4), but then it is still a sit-down place, somewhat similar to the restaurant, so then less than $25 per person is not bad. The high point is that the food was very tasty, well prepared and well presented. Burgers were outstanding, big and loaded. Roast beef panini sandwich was also excellent, with very tasty fries. Seared tuna salad was perfectly executed. The food was really 5 stars almost until the end until I saw a hair sticking out of the sandwich - nicely baked in, so it was not one of ours. This definitely brought the whole experience down. As we were close to our flight, there was no time left to bring this to someone's attention, so this was not addressed in any way. If not for that experience, this would be a pretty much a five stars meal, considering the flavor and execution - so yeah, I'm going down to the three stars. I can't really recommend this place, but things happen, so hopefully your experience will be better.

Erik L.

Yelp
Avoid!!! Crazy cashless ordering. Kitchen is disorganized. Food is sub par. Expensive

Kelly C.

Yelp
Airport food is never known to be very good, but this was exceptionally nasty and very expensive. I ordered a house salad with pepper grilled chicken and artichoke dip. My mom ordered a kids grilled cheese and fries. The salad dressing was horrible, and the grilled chicken was clearly out of a package as there were no grill marks. It appeared to be boiled with horrible flavor. The lettuce was good. The artichoke dip looked like mud on a plate and was made with what tasted like picked artichokes, not good. My mom's grilled cheese was delicious, but the fries had clearly been sitting for some time. The salad and artichoke dip came to $50...insane

Yelp
Vesper tavern is located in terminal C located by gate 88. It was our first time going any place other than Wendy's so we decided to give this place a shot. First off it's the airport so the prices are going to be skyrocketed but we were not in the mood for fastfood just an appetizer. A positive side of this tavern is that the waiter was very attentive and helpful with ordering with an iPad. The questionable part of the tavern is our food came out 7 minutes after we ordered it which I guess is both a plus and minus. I couldn't help but wonder if our food was premade and just sitting under a hot lamp or. They were just really slow. Regardless my husband ordered the Boneless wings and I ordered the buffalo chicken spring rolls. They tried to do an Asian fusion twist on there menu items but I feel that the name tavern is a little deceiving. My husband thought the wings were decent and I just felt that the buffalo chicken spring rolls were questionable in tasteand super small portion (3) For $9.95. I'm thinking your better off at Wendy's or Dunkin' but it was an experience.

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
Please avoid this place! I ordered the Caesar salad today and got very ill on my flight. Also, my husbands order was severely delayed.

Yashpal A.

Yelp
Ordered a avocado toast with coffee. The potato fried wedges were ice cold, no coffee refills, yet the tip is taken while orderin. Not a surprise the servers don't even come to check during the meal.
google avatar

Yelp
My rating is based on value for money for the most part - food is ok . A chicken Caesar salad ( with practically no chicken ) and a Jack and coke ( with practically no Jack ) equals $46???? Come on - I get it , it's the airport but at least serve a normal portion for almost triple the price . They should give you a free glass of wine before they screw you - no bueno

Yelp
Paid 55 per person at airport for drinks food and tip. Horrible service, couldn't get table cleaned. Waited long time for food. Average food.

Yelp
All throughout EWRs Concourse C are updated eateries with individual charging stations and tablets on which to order your food and drink. Nice. This is one of them. After we sat down, a waiter approached to guide us through the process of putting our order in the tablet and making sure we included everything. Then, you pay right after you order. Convenient, especially if you have just a short time to eat, but you're prompted to tip before your service which I don't really like. Anyway, the food came out quickly and turned out to be pretty good. The tempura fried chicken sandwich was hot and tasty but could have used some salt and pepper, which is not on the tables. Fries were fresh and hot, but also needed salt. Soft drinks are served in small glasses and refills will be necessary, but you have to get your waiter's attention. My husband's beer was generously served in a large mug. I liked the games on the tablet to pass the time, and the ability to keep track of your flight by scanning your ticket stub. Overall, a good experience.

Yelp
Hands down the worst experience I have ever had at a airport restaurant. The food was fine however there is no service. Why have water glasses if no one is coming, why have a "help" button if no one actually comes. The ordering app's "convenience" is ruined when you can't get basic service.

Yelp
Beware: The QR Code they use slams you into a paid service called Fraavy. It captures your credit card info first as you create an account and it appears you are providing it for the restaurant. Charges immediately hit my card.
