Vessel

This was one of my favorite places during my stay in Manhattan. I'm so thankful a friend recommended it. I actually liked that it was closed so no one was walking on it. Made for some gorgeous pictures! You can still go right up to it, and they had a farmer's Market on Tuesday and Thursday plus a fun mural and nice tables and chairs in both the sun and the shade. One day there was even Jenga on one of the tables. I was told that when it's open, you need to book your ticket months in advance.

This is definitely a go-to place if you are visiting NY! It's an extraordinary architecture. I loved being there. The atmosphere was wonderful. There was music, people enjoying their afternoon. A wonderful sight in this busy city.

Looks interesting, but unfortunately they had the upper levels closed and you could only go into the base. They have free concerts in the summer in the plaza by the vessel and there is some nice shaded seating around the perimeter too. Close to the highline and shopping and restaurants in the Hudson Yards and Edge observation deck.

It's beautiful. The architecture is stunning. You have to get tickets pretty far in advance at the moment, so check their web site. Pay special attention to their Terms and Conditions which allow them to use your posted photos for free in their marketing without paying you. There is an elevator but only for people who are disabled.

The architecture is like nothing I’ve ever seen before! I love it. It is so unique, and a really fun way to enjoy Hudson yards. I love the whole atmosphere, it really feels self contained. I love everything about The Vessel and climbing it is something everyone should try!

Amazing place! The building is really cool, and the surroundings are also pretty cool and decorated ( benches, and trees and lights everywhere). At the time being, climbing up the building is not allowed, but you can get inside just on the base of the building, which offers a pretty amazing view! The staff working on the entrance of the building were really nice too!

Incredible stop! The different views of the city were incredible!! My brother and I probably took about 200+ photos while there, and we were able to get a nice walk in! It has ADA accommodations for those who can’t do stairs. And, for just $10 per person, you can get a view of the city that’s postcard worthy. This place was incredible. As my brother said, “the best $10 I’ve ever spent”

This building is amazing 👏🏼 Bravo to the architect 👍🏼 It was closed when we were there. But we enjoy the backyard movie and food trucks are good. FYI bring your own water $5for small bottle water there😜 THE SHOP the high end mall below THE EDGE building across from the vessel very nice area. No homeless when we were there. The HUDSON Station definitely one of the iconic inside too👍🏽

The vessel!! Definitely a spot to check out. You can head over to the Hudson yard mall to do some shopping, grab coffee, and hang out!

Visually it's a architectural feat reminiscent of Escher's staircase lithographs, when the Hudson Yard developments were completed several years ago, this became a focal attraction and originally was free though now (whether due to long lines or people unfortunately using it as a venue to end their lives), access is now via pre-booked time slots for $10 per person. Basically you're walking a lot of stairs in a circle while appreciating (or subsequently unappreciating due to the amount of stairs) this polygonal multi-level architecture. It's also a favorite subject of photography for most passerby, every tourist, amateur or professional photographer. Tickets can be booked in person at a ticket kiosk next to the small plaza the Vessel is located in, or at digital machines inside the adjacent mall. Hours are 11am-7pm Friday thru Sundays. For NYC residents tickets for Thursdays only can be booked free starting Thurs March 6, 2025.

3.5 stars. The Vessel has reopened as of October 2024. I've first experienced the Vessel in 2019, before they closed it due to some unfortunate situations. The structure is beautifully designed and looks like a honeycomb. I love the architecture and the photos you can take with it. With the reopening, they have put up nets to prevent anyone from jumping. It kind of ruins the aesthetic of the structure and you can't go to the top level due to lack of netting, but it's understandable for safety reasons. When we went Thanksgiving weekend, they didn't have enough staff so one side of the Vessel was closed. $10/person and choose an entry time or $15 to enter anytime. There is an elevator, if you can't go up/down the stairs.

Really glad this is finally open to the public! It's a fun experience to go all the way up. You can see some good views and the architecture is cool to look at. We waited about 20 minutes in line even though we had timed tickets. It's easy to buy tickets online or you can buy in person. I recommend checking this out if you're in the Hudson Yards area.

Glad this has finally reopened! It's was such a nice attraction to visit especially since Thursdays offer free admission for NY locals (just be sure to sign up for tickets online). It's a pretty nice place outside of Hudson Yards and good for a photo ops. For the those that want to experience the view but aren't able to climb flights of stairs, there's also a slow moving elevator (though I'm not sure if a different type of ticket is required, I guess it depends on the staff). About half of the Vessel is open, the other half is sectioned off with a metal nets. Besides the view from the top, it's basically a 20 minute cardio workout climbing all those steps! We visited during a December morning so it was quite cold to be climbing up the Vessel. Luckily Hudson Yards is right in front to escape from cold.

Pretty cool tourist site to see. We actually lucked up getting the chance to go into the Vessel, we had an early morning walk planned for the High Land by Hudson Yard & noticed the Vessel fresh off its grand reopening in mid October of 2024 had a short line with an admission fee of $10 (along with a free admission for my NYC Marathon runner). Some parts of the Vessel you can't access since those areas haven't been updated safety wise (let's say to get people from "falling" off on purpose). There's also a security screening process before you go in, to make that quick if you have a bag take anything from your pockets and put it in the bag so they can check it and get you through the line quicker. For the price and the views it's totally worth doing, and if you had plans to visit an observation deck The Edge is located in the building right next to the Vessel so that's two attractions you can knock off your list in just a few hours.

Update 2024: They've added safety nets/fences to the exterior and upper interior areas. The very top sections are also closed as they are unable to add nets/fences to those areas. Still a great experience but the views can be a bit obstructed with the nets/fences and inaccessible top floor. Reservations are available every 10 minutes. $10 for timed tickets and $15 for flex tickets. Free on Thursdays for NYC residents. The screening (metal detector and baggage check) was quick.

Vessel reopened in October '24 after being closed for a long time to make the structure safer. You can purchase tickets online or at the entrance. I recommend purchasing them online and pick a set entry time ($10), or choose a flex ticket where you pick the day but don't need to pick a time ($15). Tickets are free for NYC residents but you should still get your free ticket through the website. Tickets will be emailed and contain a QR code to be scanned upon entry. There is more security at the entrance (body scanner, checking bag contents) and more staff on the structure. The top level as well as some stairs on the outter sides are closed off to the public with gates. Nets cover the openings on higher levels but the holes in the nets are big enough to get pictures without the net showing. I recommend visiting Vessel if you have some time to kill in the area, for example before you visit Edge or the High Line.

The Vessel is open again and you can walk around to some degree. There are jump nets to prevent the jumpers but they hamper your ability to take photos. Parts, especially the top floor remain blocked. Nonetheless this is an architecturally interesting spot to visit in Hudson Yards.

It was a quick and fun experience. It has recently been re-opened with safety measures put in place. Now there's an entrance fee of $10 you can purchase the ticket in line. Safety netting has been installed on every level, as you walk up. The top floor has been blocked off and there's no more access to that area.!you still get an awesome view. Kimberly, one of the workers there was super friendly and informative and gave us the history behind the building!!

What a great interactive art installation in NYC. I enjoyed my views of it from the bottom, as I was walking up, and at the top. As someone who hates doing stairs I found this super easy and I wasn't winded at all since the landings were spacious and you could admire the view (both up and down). It is super shiny, and even though it was busy it wasn't packed. We were able to walk up and purchase immediate entrance tickets at 11:10 am on. Saturday. Incredible experience.

PROs - fantastic architecture , photogenic place .. CONS.- closed for public to enter inside , not many good places to eat around . THE VESSEL has become one of the iconic buildings in New York . They just recently built this but because of its amazing architecture , this has become a photographers paradise . It has almost become one of the MUST SEE places in New York .. it is also next to Hudson yards EDGE , which is yet another To-Do place .. it is a bit expensive though. Vessel is temporary closed to enter though. Wish we had a chance to see it from inside . I heard it is really colorful during Christmas time . Not many eateries around except a few food carts which are super duper expensive and tastes average .. there is a mall next door but I didn't see many eateries in there . There is a coffee shop though and also a Starbucks close by. Loved the open theater setup at the rear and loved those seats . Very comfortable . Parking is a bit tricky . We had to park few blocks away . Do not park anywhere closer to vessel . There is also a train station next door for anyone using public transportation. Overall loved this place ..

For all New Yorkers, it's free for us on Thursdays. The only catch which I really should have read the website more clearly. You have to reserve tickets online ahead of time. Unfortunately, we didn't and they were completely booked. So what to do. We took a few pictures and walked around because is was a gorgeous day we were able to see a sunset. We also went to the Hudson Yard Mall which was very nice and had a bunch of high end stores but as you go up in the mall the stores become more affordable. Coming here is a perfect way to spend a few hours plus getting here on the 7 train is just so easy.

This cool looking bronze honeycomb-like structure was built to be the centerpiece of the Hudson Yards neighborhood. It is 16 stories and 150 feet tall and is comprised of 154 interconnecting flights of stairs. I have seen pictures of the Vessel before and wanted to check it out after walking on the High Line to Hudson Yards. Vessel is a visitor attraction that was part of the Hudson Yards Redevelopment Project in Manhattan Midtown West and opened in 2019. The plaza around Vessel is really nice with lots of trees and plants and a cultural center. I got to see this structure during the day and at night. It is a sight to see at night with the New York City skyline behind it. There are a lot of stairs and you get great views of the nearby Hudson River from the top. Despite some of the criticism surrounding it, Vessel is still an impressive piece of architecture. Even though it is closed indefinitely, I was able to stand underneath it and get a glimpse of its interior. Hudson Yards is a luxury real estate development near Chelsea and Hell's Kitchen. It has several structures that contain residences, office buildings, restaurants, hotels and a mall. The highest outdoor sky deck in the Western Hemisphere "The Edge" is in the 30 Hudson Yards skyscraper next to Vessel. The Vessel was built during Phase One of the Hudson Yards development at a cost of around $150 million.

I had the chance to go inside a few years ago and it was super cool to look down. I think it will reopen later this year

Very cool artistic modern contemporary sculpture which you can actually go inside and climb. For $10, its a pretty cheap activity for NYC. But it also means climbing up lots and lots of stairs, which you might already be exhausted from a a full day of sight seeing. It is very awesome though with great photo ops. I'd recommend going a sunset or night when the lights go on. I wish they had built a circular slide for going back down...that would've made it a 5 Star!

The Vessel is a really neat structure to see. It will most likely be closed from walking to the top for the rest of time due to unfortunate incidences. Here's some facts about the Vessel to peak your interest. The structure of 16 stories costs around 200 million dollars. Consists of 154 interconnecting flights of stairs. The staircase is made of bronzed-steel and concrete. Majority of the structure was fabricated in Italy. It was built as an attraction to capture the world's attention. It even has an elevator on the located on the inside of the structure. Had a limit of holding 1,000 people at a time.

It is really sad that this attraction and interactive art piece is closed even more sad as to the reason why. We were not aware of this, of course, until we got there and ultimately decided we didn't want to walk all around the structure due to the high level of walking we were already doing being in NYC. Seeing the structure was beautiful all in itself, so we weren't upset about not climbing all the stairs. Even with being closed, spending time around the art piece at different times of the day gives you gorgeous different views, especially during Christmas time with all the trees around the piece lit up. Wish I had the time to go back and take those pictures at night. Maybe one day, they will be able to design some additional safety measures that wouldn't subtract to the views or designs of the piece. You can walk around the bottom level, but I did read that during the winter months, even that is closed. Regardless, it's still an amazing structure, and I am glad we got to see it in person.

Looks cool but it's shutdown so no one can enter or go up to see the views. But still a great place to take photos.

I can't believe the vessel is closed! Unfortunate the reason why but this super cool attraction was amazing to be a part of. When I first saw it, it looked like a true beehive. The best part was being able to climb the stairs and see the city in every angle I was at. Nonetheless I feel like despite not being able to climb stairs, seeing it is already startling.

It looks very pretty from outside! There is an elevator inside that goes up after every 15-30-45 mins and only 4/people at a time, depending upon the rush. for us it was 15mins wait time. You can take the stairs to go to the top as well. Honestly, the view was okish from top. It's a $10 tick + taxes. But not worthy the wait time. Get a picture outside and be done lol.

We took the High Line to Hudson Yards and we saw the Vessel from the park as we were approaching Hudson Yards. It looks really cool from the High Line. As we came off the highline we started entering a larger space which looked like a park which was surrounded by offices, residences, a mall and I believe what's the largest outdoor observation deck in North America. There were also a handful of food trucks outside the Vessel. As we got close to the Vessel we noticed it looked like it was closed as there was a chain link on the entrance of it. We walked up and didn't see anybody around. We decided to do a walk around to check it out and it looks like a pretty cool walk up if it was open. It doesn't look like it serves any other purpose besides just being a structure you can walk up. The views from up top must be great as the Hudson Yards area has really been built up and there has to be a great view of the river.

What's it look like to you? Maybe a beehive? Looks like al pastor glistening on a spit to me! All in all, the Vessel is an extraordinary art piece made of towering, interlocking staircases. When I first visited in 2019, tons of visitors climbed its staircases. As of my last visit in 2023, no one was allowed to walk on it anymore due to unfortunate events. The ground level view still provides worthwhile views :)

She's back! After several years hiatus I was finally able to climb the vessel. If you're a local make sure to get your free Thursday reservation ASAP online. They're already booked out a month and don't accept walk ups. I ended up paying the $10 GA ticket because I'm scared of this thing closing again. I thought it was worth it and the views were pretty good even with the new netting.

Cool to look at. Unique art. Used to be fun to go up on it. I was one of the lucky ones years ago before they closed it down from walking up. I recently visited again and heard it's been closed as an attraction for a long time.

Ever since I saw this sculpture on Project Runway, I placed it on my bucket list to check out. This art installation did not disappoint, when I saw it, I just remember thinking... WOW. From the exterior to the interior of this statue was incredible. I understand why we can't go passed the first floor. As many other reviewers have called this an Instagram or Tik Tok opportunity for the "influencers". From the Vessel go check out The Edge since these two attractions are in the same area.

This is a must-see landmark to add to your sightseeing bucket list whether you're a tourist or a local New Yorker in the area! The Vessel, an architecture that looks like a giant honeycomb from whichever angle you're standing at. Love seeing the beautiful sunsets, scenery of all sorts and just generally the skyline views of what Hudson Yards really has to offer! Would definitely make a memorable photo/keepsake for those who choose to snap a shot under the remarkable landmark! You might even want to challenge yourself and race to the top with your friends. Plus, the Hudson Yards Mall is right next to The Vessel. So if you're ever tired and want to rest your feet, just grab a chair to sit down and relax. If you're hungry, go grab something to eat on different levels of the shopping center whether it's dine in or just a quick bite dining out.

I was disappointed that the Vessel is still closed. I've seen pictures of the interior, and I'm sure I would've gotten a different experience had I been able to enter the Vessel and seen the 360 degree views of the city from it. Regardless, it was astounding to see the structure from outside. The sculpture looks otherworldly. It definitely is quite the centerpiece at Hudson Yards; I saw it from far and next thing I knew, I was being pulled straight toward it.

Very stunning art piece. Free to go into, and the line was not that long; took about 5-10 minutes to get inside. Once inside, there's very limited time to take pictures. There are several staircases you can go up, but only to one level. The security guards/workers try to keep the flow of people continuous, so there's not too much time to take pics inside. Very beautiful piece of art that is free to enjoy!

You can no longer go up in the Vessel since too many people have jumped from there - sadly. So you just get to look at it from a far. The 150 ' vessel is still a huge attraction at hudson Yards. It really is beautiful. Thomas Heatherwick, architect and his group build this and it is wonderful. I love walking around it and love looking up at the spiral staircase. It does have 2500 steps with 154 flights of stairs and 80 landings. You could really get a lot of selfies with all of those angles! Enjoy it from a far and take your pix!

This place has been a bookmark since it opened in 2019. At the time, it was all over social media and I just thought it was so cool-looking. After opening to the public in March of 2019, the Vessel was closed indefinitely to the public after three suicides at the site. With 16 floors and standing 150-feet-tall, visitors can now only enter the first floor of the structure. Even though you can't go any higher, it is still very cool to look at in person and there are still plenty of people who want to see it.

Finally got to see this wonder! The Vessel is a must-see for anyone visiting New York City. On my next visit, I will make the trip to the top!!

I was disappointed that Vessel was temporary closed when I visited on 5/1/2023 due to four people have died by jumping off the sculpture. It's so sad! This is a remarkable and unique architecture. We were able to go in the ground level and take few pictures and of course the exterior. I was hoping to climb up to the top and enjoy the view. Hopefully, they can find a way to re-open it. The Vessel is located in Hudson Yards. The honeycomb like structure has 16 stories with stairs and landings for visitors to climb. A short walk from the 7 train 34th Street-Hudson Yards station.

Meh...it was ok but I was honestly disappointed. You can't go to the very top. The view down is ok but after one look, you're pretty much done. The view outward towards the water is ruined by a train yard. It should also be free bc there's really nothing to it. Looking at it from the outside is good enough honestly.

Stopped by the vessel the other day for the first time and it is so pretty! I'm really sad you can't go up it anymore, but they were letting us in the very bottom of it with no tickets needed. There was also not a line for it so we just walked right in and out. We stopped by in the daytime before going into hudson yards and then got to see it again at night when we left. It's got some lights around it right now for the holidays so it was really pretty in the evening as well! A cool but quick stop!

Whenever I take trips to NYC, I like stopping by Vessel. Hudson Yards is a great place to walk around and to start a trip down the High Line to Chelsea Market. I wouldn't say there's too much to do in this area (other than Shopping and maybe seeing the Edge), but all in all it's not a bad sight!

Illenium and The Chainsmokers is what brought me here! Such a beautiful work of art. I really really wished we was able to walk on it, but I understood the reasoning. Little to no wait to take a photo instead of the vessel. I wish the staff handled the room in the vessel more and some were just stilling around and taking up space while others where trying to find a spot to take a photo or take in the moment. Overall, a beautiful building!

The Vessel is "closed," but it is free to look at the exterior and go into the very first level. Workers are kind of rude and aggressive. The Hudson Yards mall is right next to the structure, which was more entertaining in my opinion.

I always pass by here when I'm going to work but never had the chance to stop and enjoy it. The other night my daughter and I went to an event and had a couple of minutes to stop by. It's beautiful at night, plenty of people around wandering and enjoying the view. We didn't need tickets for the bottom floor, they allowed us to walk around but people were saying that it is not allowed to go all the way to the top anymore for safety reasons! It's a nice view and would definitely recommend passing by at least once to experience!

I did not commit suicide here, but I did die of boredom. Not sure what the point is - mediocre views made more mediocre by nets. Just another long line to wait in in NYC.

This beautiful architecture in NYC is definitely of different aspects. Great to see. Wanted to see it although it was close. There no admission to climb the top due accident that previously occurred. The vessel is definitely good to admired from the bottom and great to take pictures.

The Vessel is interesting, because it is an interdisciplinary piece. It is an outdoor public park, a sculpture, and an architectural work. Currently, people can not walk up the stairs in the Vessel.

Being renovated so we couldn't walk inside today. Security is very visible in this area.

This has to be one of the most unique landmarks to see in NYC! If I draw a parallel, this would be the NYC equivalent of "the Bean" in Chicago. Walking along the High Line, when you finally catch a glimpse of the Vessel, it really is striking and stands out. This multilevel observation platform that really catches the sunlight reflecting off of its metallic surface. Truly is a sight to behold amongst all of the surrounding skyscrapers. Definitely put this on a list of must see locations in NYC :)

Pretty cool looking set of stairs in my opinion. But it does have some dark history to it, unfortunately.

One of the new- esh addition to Nyc's always changing landscape. The Vessel is a soaring, spiral architectural centerpiece of the Hudson yard area. The vessel like structure is 16 stories, 2500 steps climb to the top. I was fortunate to check it out on its first week of opening. Too bad its temporarily closed for now for safety reasons. Despite its closure, the Vessel is still interesting to view from the bottom. wow inducing backdrop for pictures for locals & visitors alike Just behind the vessel is a high end mall , with clean bathrooms & food stores. The vessel is not to be missed if you are visiting nyc!

This structure is located in Hudson Yards and near Ground Zero. It was opened in March 2019 and definitely demands your attention. I had to go visit. The structure is astounding. It is not really a building, but an interactive piece of art. It is virtually a spiral staircase comprised of 154 intricately interconnecting flights of stairs. Visitor can get remarkable views of the city, and the river from here....If it was open. It reminds me of a space aged bee-hive. It stands 150' high and is the work of architect Thomas Heatherwick of Heatherwick Studios. Unfortunately, you can not go up because it is currently closed due to a wave of suicides being committed there. Access is restricted to the ground-level base, which is free. There is no plan to open it back up until they can figure out how to stop the suicides there. Even though you cannot really go in, and I understand why, it is still a nice piece of art to visit. I consider it a large sculpture and a place to get some good pictures. I would recommend making it part of a larger itinerary though as you would probably not spend a lot of time there. Getting here via the subway is relatively easy, as there is a subway station across the street. There are garages nearby, but they can become pricey. I really like this place and hope that they are able to safely open it back up fully. It is deinitely a must see while in NYC.

This is a unique piece of architecture but it's design is really nice. I came here after leaving The Highline and I did some shopping inside (located behind the vessel). I also came back to watch TV later that week and it was like being at the movies, they have food vendors nearby to grab a bite while you watch shows and they also have lounge chairs around. At the time you're not able to walk up the vessel due to reasons I won't mention here, but until the city can figure out a better solution to make it safer they have closed that part.
