went for the hot chocolate - I had it with oat milk. it was good, it did taste dark. It’s also not too sweet (it was served with toasted marshmallow so that’s the only thing that made it sweeter). you can also taste the bitterness, which I Prefer, but temperature wise, it wasn’t that hot. i also got a dark almond and it wasn’t too sweet either. This is one of the hot chocolate spots in Jersey I would recommend for a dark hot chocolate that is not too sweet

The best hot chocolate I've ever had. I also tried their apple cider and it was delicious. It's a little bit pricey but it's totally worth it. 5/5 for costumer services, the girls are very nice.

Over a month ago while on a day trip to Upper Montclair with friends, I spied an artisanal chocolatier. Inside were bars, confections, hot chocolate and bark. I bought three bars for each of my friends. For myself, I took a Dominican Republic bar of organic single origin 66% and a packet of orangettes. I decided to eat both in Pune. The bar was enjoyed with every bite. The chocolate was smooth, non acidic and imparted a tasty finish. The orangettes I regrigerated due to the hot weather and have been eating and savoring each morsel slowly. Both my friends enjoyed their bars. The lady helping us was informative and gave us samples. When I return home, I plan to make another visit as it's far nicer than buying it online.

Google
Excellent customer service! Pricey but good quality chocolate and chocolate products. I expected more vegan and/or dairy free options, especially for the baked goods. Using Planet Oat oatmilk (not organic, filled with gums) for the hot chocolate was a big NO for me.

Google
I only got a couple beverages but each time I entered the space, I adored it. The lady behind the counter was a ginger girl who helped me decide what I wanted. The apple cider beverage was BEAUTIFUL. The price was not bad at all. Less than $6.50. It was warm, flavorful, and the marshmallow on top was a glorious touch. Next time I went I got a cold pumpkin spice latte. I frequently forget I don't like coffee so I didn't love it, but that's because I keep trying to convince myself that I can like coffee. But if you do like coffee, then the beverage is a must. Good price for that too, it comes warm and you can choose a marshmallow as well. The chocolate and food they've got is so tempting. I want to buy some every time I pass by but it is priced high. I know it would be worth every bite and a lot of work must be put into it for such a masterpiece. Maybe one day I'll give it a go. Lovely place!

Please come visit here if you want to experience an Absurd example of shrinkflation. Seven dollars for a teaspoon of flan. Seven dollars for a hot chocolate that was barely room temperature. Spent $50 here for a family of four, I feel like I got robbed. Not even a stool to sit. Dear owner, in response to your reply, I would like to share that I am not as much disappointed on the transparent pricing and quantity, as I am with the quality of your hot chocolate. As I said above, it was barely room temperature, if you’re gonna charge a fine price, at least get the temperature right and how you serve it. It seems like you take great pride in quality and miss the biggest portion of hot chocolate where it doesn’t need to be too hot when it burns a tongue, but your beverage was barely warm.

Finally got a chance to visit Vesta to grab some sweets and was so satisfied! I had their six pack sea salt chocolate chip cookies and they were delicious! The cookies were soft and had good quality chocolate chips which were rich in flavor and complimented well with the sea salt. I also tried a slice of their basque cheesecake which had such beautiful flavor. It was silky creamy and had that nice chocolate ganache on the top with a tiny gold flake. I actually liked that there wasnt much chocolate on top as it would have taken over the entire cheesecake flavor. There are other items such as their brownies, barks and hot coco. You could tell these items were of very good standards. The truffles were so elegant looking and looked perfect for gift giving. The bag our orders came in with was so presentable that its like Vesta is the Tiffany and Co. of chocolates! They are pricey for such small desserts but I’am aware that here its quality over quantity and its also for that experience of premium quality small batch chocolates. I had to knock off one star unfortunately as I didnt have the best experience with the latte my husband ordered. I know coffee is supposed to be hot okay but the one he got was just piping hot. Having tried so many lattes in so many different cafes I understand that that it has to be at a right temperature where its hot but can still be readily drinkable. But regardless, I would love to be back as I have been eyeing their iced mocha latte. Hopefully some time during warmer weathers.

Google
Came for the Matcha bar and really enjoyed it!! Staff was nice and helped us choose what to try. My husband loved the truffles, particularly the carmel, coffe, and vanilla. The hardest part was deciding what to try. The desserts also looked phenomenal. Overall a little pricey but delicious. Will definitely be back for more treats!!

Yelp
This was the BEST hot chocolate I've ever had in life! Seriously. I'm from NY and had my share of food but this one, 10/10 recommend, bring a friend! LOL. I have a hot chocolate with skim milk and a roasted marshmallow. BRUH! The service was lovely and the ambiance was cool. It's not a dine in place but rather a stop and grab spot.

Christina T.

Yelp
I've brought in desserts/chocolates store and online. Online is usually a gift and the recipient has always love the bon bons. I've been in store multiple times and customer service is always lovely. The employees there are always very kind, patient and very knowledgeable. Some of my favorites treats are the double cream flan, chocolate chip cookies, basque cheesecake, and their jasmine bon bon. Their chocolate cookies are my favorite. The affogato is a delightful summer treat. Their ice chocolate milk is good but too rich for me, if you are a dark chocolate lover, this is your drink. I can't wait to go back to try new things especially the blueberry basil sundae. Definitely come in for a treat or buy someone else a treat. Would make great gifts. My friend loves the chocolate hazelnut spread from here and they package everything beautifully. It's a wonderful experience and the store is beautiful.

Meghann A.

Yelp
Cute place! Service was good. The chocolate bark was good but it was very pricey for what we received. The hot chocolate was very tasty and the marshmallow was a nice touch.

Morlene C.

Yelp
I just love Montclair. I'm so charmed by all the shops and restaurants and that it's a liberal utopia within the state of Jersey, home to many journalists who work in the city but want a suburban enclave to go home to. To top it off, this street with so many of the cute shops has this incredible chocolate shop, and everything is absolutely fantastic. I dropped by with some friends for some hot chocolate, but with it being a hot day, many of us opted for iced mocha instead. The chocolate complemented the coffee super well. We couldn't resist also getting some truffle chocolates-- delicious. I'm used to nyc prices so I was pleasantly surprised to find the drinks a dollar or two cheaper than what they'd charge a state over. Even lovelier!

Evin G.

Yelp
The little chocolate bon bon things are not great. They taste like the ones from a Valentine's Day box at any convenience store. It's $25 for 6 but honestly I would rather get a bag of Lindt balls for like $6.

Rama M.

Yelp
Not much of a seating type of place, you order and leave but the decor was pretty. The coffee itself is strong and tasteful. I enjoyed it because it was actual coffee rather than 90% milk.

Kathleen C.

Yelp
I came here spontaneously as I was about to walk to the grocery for a bar of dark chocolates! Who knew that this was a chocolatier right next to an ice cream shoppe... what a great spot to be haha. Besides their bon bons & beautiful truffles & Oprah's favorite choices... they've got an espresso machine & HOT CHOCOLATE made with I think it's 63% chocolate with mylk alternatives! BAM got myself my treat fix instantly & the barista made it like a latte, topped it foamed, and pretty & super delish. I wish the large size was larger but I should have enjoyed it much more zen. Next time again!

Yelp
Cute little chocolate store in Montclair. The store smells divine.Definitely a place to visit for chocolate lovers.Tried the chocolate tart and a sea-salt chocolate chip cookie. The tart is delicious. Very rich and decadent. Not overly sweet. The quality of the chocolate shines through. It is a bit pricey.12$ for a small tart. And the cookie,OMG it is heavenly.Perfect in all ways. Will be returning to try some of their drinks and bonbons and to pick up more cookies. People who work here seemed friendly.

Yelp
What to do with an old bank building? Ditch the tellers and bring in the chocolatier! Serious chocolate here. Impress your partner or reward a client with some seriously beautiful chocolate. However, if you're not craving their phenomenal hot chocolate, splurge with the apple cider with fresh cream (hot chocolate, opt for the homemade marshmallow). And oh, that blue Vesta sign is now a Montclair icon.

Xhan H.

Yelp
Excellent customer service! Pricey but good quality chocolate and chocolate products. I expected more vegan and/or dairy free options, especially for the baked goods.

Yelp
Small but super cute chocolate shop. The teas are seasonal. Pretty wrapping. Ordered a latte - they added a good amount of sugar- it comes in the prettiest cup. Latte with sweetening 5/5 Chocolate truffle 5/5 thin crisp on the outside - gooey filling on the inside Metered street parking but it does accept quarters. Closes early.

Yelp
I came back again second day in a row lol. I had the hot chocolate w/oat milk and 4 chocolates. At this point, I need to gift myself a box it's just that good. I had the mango/vanilla/marshmallow and orange. All were delightful, subtle and smooth. The hot chocolate was my least favorite but still good and thats mainly because I'm used sugary hot chocolates. The service and chocolate were consistent and will be a staple stop when visiting family again!

Ashley R.

Yelp
Delicious high-quality chocolate! The staff were helpful and courteous, and the interior is gorgeous. We will definitely be back

MJ M.

Yelp
The chocolate is pretty bland. The mocha is not chocolate enough. Although the service is great.

Nandini B.

Yelp
Excellent hot chocolate in a cute store which used to be an erstwhile bank vault in the vibrant Montclair neighborhood.

Lesly R.

Yelp
The hot chocolate is so rich and creamy and so are the chocolates. I love coming here every time I'm in montclair. The service was also very good.

Umar K.

Yelp
Ordered a caramel macchiato -- by the time it was made and handed to me it was cold. I went back in to inform them and they made me a new one. Once it was made I stepped back inside and the Owner, I assume was sweet enough to apologize for the mistake and offered a complimentary chocolate brownie - which by the way are very decadent and delicious. Highly recommend. While enjoying this another person came out to offer me two chocolate chip cookies as an apology - I happily appreciated the gesture but indicated the brownie was more than enough. I wanted to commend the Owner and the staff for really going above and beyond in customer service - this gesture alone will make me revisit the establishment and praise it amongst friends and family.

Anna O.

Yelp
Friendly staff, beautiful display. The hot chocolate was delicious. You can choose any type of milk which is great if you are dairy-free or lactose intolerant. Highly recommend adding a homemade marshmallow!

Jill C.

Yelp
The cappuccino was delicious. I tried the vegan sexy bar (maca, ashwa, gandha). For vegan chocolate it was good but I wouldn't get it again. Bobbons available only by the box and not individually, which I wasn't thrilled with. Minimum box price was $25 and based on the chocolate bar I purchased at $9 they might not be worth the splurge. Chocolates felt more aesthetic than tasty. I'll definitely be back for the coffee and overhead a customer saying she regularly gets the brownies. Lovely interior. Felt like an oasis.

Kimberly G.

Yelp
Vesta has the best hot chocolate and chocolate chip cookies in town. They are both seriously good! We come back time and time again for both items. Service is always good too, they are very kind! Regarding the vibe, it is not a sit down place. During the warm weather they put 4-6 seats out. It's a grab spot but totally worth it!

John D.

Yelp
Overhyped and disappointing, sadly. I was excited to try some things after reading about this place but it failed to deliver. The things I tried ranged from good to not very good, and for the prices it's definitely not worth it, because you aren't getting a product any better than the top competition. Maybe in Montclair there is nothing to compete but that doesn't change the fact that I won't be going back. The chocolate chip cookie was the best thing I tried, and it wasn't that great. Chocolate chip cookies are subjective of course, but this one was saltier than usual but in a good way. The edges had a nice crisp to them but the majority of the cookie in the middle was lackluster. It was fine, good even, but why bother? It's not anything unique or better than many other cookies. The brownie was ok. It has a very soft, almost ganache texture, but the flavor did not impress. Cocoa nibs on top were different but did not elevate it enough. The bonbons were most disappointing. I tried a few flavors and none were good. At almost $4 each it was criminal. The earl grey was borderline awful. It had so much bergamot it tasted more like licorice than earl grey. Truly the last straw if this little attention is paid to the products.

Miriam I.

Yelp
Loved this place! So happy to have found a cute little chocolate shop in Montclair. Came here for some good hot chocolate and this place did not disappoint. The hot chocolate was rich and high quality and not too sweet which I loved. Also got a box of holiday truffles and they were all delicious with such great flavors. Everything was delicious. Highly recommend!

Nathaniel P.

Yelp
TLDR: if you love chocolate and desserts as much as I do, you'll love this place! I've been following vesta for a while on social media and I actually made the trip to Montclair just for it! I got several items: the chocolate tart, signature cookie, brownie, chamo-mint tea, and a couple of the dark chocolate barks. The chocolate tart was so great. There were hints of bergamot and a hint of salt in the caramel. My favorite part of it was actually the tart crust. I will say it was a little difficult to eat with plastic utensils and a plastic tray but other than that I can't wait to have another. The chocolate chip cookie and brownie will probably be some of the best you've ever had! I also quite enjoyed the chamo-mint tea; it was so refreshing. If I lived closer I might skip the chocolate and just grab an iced tea. The chocolate barks were quite thin and broke easily in the heat so perhaps keep them in the fridge. I got the cherry and pecan as well as the fig and hazelnut. If I had to choose, I'd get the cherry and pecan again only because I found the figs quite hard. In sum, a great place for chocolate, desserts and iced tea. The owners who were working that day were so affable and helpful. If they had a location in New York I'd be a frequent customer but I don't mind traveling to Montclair just for it!

Andrew L.

Yelp
Great little chocolate shop! Tried their hot chocolate w/ oat milk, brownie sundae, & a vegan maca ashwagandha bar. Everything was fantastic!

Wesley T.

Yelp
I cannot express our family's obsession with Vesta. Every gift we get now comes from Vesta. Most recently, their product line has expanded while keeping the quality top notch. They go to the farm to see the beans they will purchase and ship. The beans are processed in-house. It is a premium price point but you get what you pay for. Make sure you grab an iced chocolate and a chocolate chip cookie to go. You gotta spoil yourself too.

Susan N.

Yelp
I accidentally discovered Vesta when walking by one day. I could smell the chocolate from the sidewalk and went in. I actually remember the bank that was previously there as my dad grew up in Montclair and we visited almost every weekend as children in the 60s and 70s . I cannot say how much my sister and I love this store. We come from Virginia and Pennsylvania each weekend as we close down my uncle's house after his recent passing. We are in awe of this store and especially those brownies. There is nothing we have bought there that has led to any disappointment. We were so excited for them winning an "Oprah's Best" nod in her magazine. We rue the day when we are unable to shop here but we heard they will be offering chocolate making classes in the future. We will sign up for sure! Thank you to the owners of this store for representing what is best about small business.

Amy R.

Yelp
Im done with this place! Pretentious and rude for no reason especially given how expensive everything is!! I have been a suportive patron since moving to Montclair, but the only thing that has gotten me was poor service and an attitude. Dont waste your time, plenty of other talented chocolatiers to support. Take your business to Jayce Baudry French Pastry instead!!

Gab G.

Yelp
Got some bark as Christmas gifts and it was delicious. The peppermint bark was the best one, though the fig and hazelnut bark was also great. I want to visit the store in person one day and try some of their pastries - the brownies and cookies look amazing!

Heather H.

Yelp
I think I've had all their bars, and they are high quality and delicious. I'm not usually one for white chocolate, but these artisanally flavored bars are absolute confections. The single-origin chocolate bars are a delight. Even more fun is to get Julia to describe what kind of boyfriend they are.

Laura R.

Yelp
Amazing, amazing, amazing! It smells heavenly when you walk in the door! The owner and employees are so welcoming. I ordered a decaf mocha and since I had never been there the girl gave me a wrapped brownie sample. OMG the brownie was out of this world! Quality ingredients for sure! I sat outside and was happy to see the foot traffic. I heard people stopping and saying that they are going to go in and support the business. The one guy came out with a brownie. They opened right before the pandemic hit, and I hope they continue to thrive as the second wave is among us. Oh and the decaf mocha latte was superb! Side note, even their bathroom is really nice! Definitely worth stopping in and supporting. I look forward to going back!

Hadley H.

Yelp
Everything at Vesta is thoughtfully curated for a truly special chocolate experience. The first thing you notice when you walk in is an enormous vault door - the property used to be a bank. The vault is now used for gifts like custom ceramics and chocolate packages. Vesta's 72% Dominican Republic Brownies are phenomenal. I love their topping- nibs and sea salt! Their vegan hot chocolate with oat milk is a must-try, but I especially loved the lattes served in Fefo Studio ceramics. Each bonbon is a gem too beautiful to eat. But ate them I did! My favorite bonbon flavor so far is Strawberries and Cream. I look forward to trying the other creative flavors that the Vesta team will introduce in the future. You can tell that Julia and Roger truly love what they do and want to get their customers excited about the chocolate creation process. Guests can watch the chocolate being made from behind a glass window. With Roger's chocolate expertise and Julia's eye for style, this shop is sure to be a sweet success!

Terence B.

Yelp
The smell inside alone is worth five stars. Stopped by for a simple cup of hot chocolate. Five bucks - decadent, high quality and perfect for a chilly fall day. Win. Will be back to try more.

Nicole G.

Yelp
This is a chocolate experience for chocolate lovers. They were out of the Carmel. So now I have to eat the strawberry and cream.

Jennifer T.

Yelp
I bought a brownie and a chocolate chip cookie here, and both were delicious! You can taste the high quality chocolate they use in every bite! Even the base of the chocolate chip was perfection! The only complaint I have is they were both small for the price. The next time I'll try their truffles and chocolate bars and update my review. I recommend Vesta Chocolate in Montclair!

Bloss C.

Yelp
Vesta has been on my to try list for a while. The packaging is very nice, if you are looking for a smart looking gift for someone, I would definitely check Vesta out. I got the 12 pack of bon bons which was $50 or about $4 per bon bon. My favorite of the bon bons was the Earl Grey which was really good. None of the other flavors really spoke to me (Vanilla, Sherry, Passion fruit, Strawberries and Cream, Salted Carmel).

Arianna U.

Yelp
Vesta chocolate is a cute small shop that has authentic chocolate goodies. I ordered hot chocolates and truffles for the family and they were all delicious. This is a must try.

Danielle I.

Yelp
We love Vesta! As soon as you step inside, you're enveloped by the most amazing smell of chocolate. Hot chocolate, mocha, chai lattes -- all delicious. I love that their pumpkin spice latte is made from pumpkin purée, not syrup. And the bon bons are all wonderful but our favorite is the 12 year aged miso caramel bon bons they made for Lunar New Year. So good!

Jil K.

Yelp
Do it for the gram! Pretty place with amazing hot chocolate, perfectly sweet and the right amount of chocolate and milk. Your insta will be happy and so will be your tastebuds

Mikaya S.

Yelp
First, let me fess straight up that I am both a coffee and choco witch... Meaning I love both dear bean-y affairs equally. So in a place like this, no other explanation is needed for the next thing I'm about to say, which is: Mocha. Did you all get the message clearly? If not, then the rich, yet not-overly-sweet treat itself can help you spell out its very existence to its very last sip...regardless if you'd end up being partial to a charming little pink cup or its taller, more formidable gray counterpart... -- this is the time, by the way, that you'd want to thank the not-so-sweet things from ingratiating my long-been hopeless, sycophantly sweet tooth and the rest of my life by extension, esp. when it comes to my health, which if in any way compromised, I sure woudn't be here to yelp about any more of my gastronomical longings further. But never you mind that, but this instead: the particular choco bars therein (the shop, of course -- where else might I have been referring to? Hello??) can also readily attest to their choco's sensibly subtle sweetness. Give it a test yourselves and ask the pistachios... Though the guy and I initially trusted the espresso... Turned out for good reason: for it remained faithful to my attestation about my Mocha by meeting the bar for a even a rich choco's sensibly subtle sweetness -- Second, let's all say iced hot chocolate so loudly it reaches the heavens that'll send forth this sinfully yummy and refreshing Liquid Choco to shower down upon us on a mere tilt of our heads, mouths hanging wide-open, our buckets clutched tight in both hands on either side...to catch more of, again, this not-so-sweet, but simply refreshing drink for us all to soak in, for really good measure. Though, if that were the case, then we'd have no further need for heavenly decadent, humble little spots to remain open. Such as this fine, local shop. Last and in summary: let's all relax. And, again, this type of relaxation is simply spelled by this particular Mocha. And after that, we may also very well all chorus: Iced. Hot. Chocolate from Vesta! And once more, the CHOCO bars therein can attest to all the sweetness claims herein. That this artisan shop isn't really for mere indulgence(s) of any hopelessly sycophantic sweet tooth, as much as it is an unapologetic indulgence(s) of hopeless bean-y romance*. (See intro for this reference.) Additional notes: may four stars ever be your heavenly guide here on earth till we all get to the real heaven... And if you are still lost and/or a bit put off by these vague allusions, for the umpteenth time and I have only often repeated myself like a broken record -- if any of you have followed my meandering yelpings at all as I wander here and there in search of good, not-to-sweet, 'ol magic since I first began: four stars is the highest high I have ever shared of all my utopian experience(s) that have turned me into a believer of the said encounters. Further notes to consider: Just before spilling out these sentiments, I thought I saw "Ice Cream Sundae" while quickly scanning the page for the button for me to start typing... Which may very well be something to look into -- look into the Sun...and not necessarily my yelpings, esp. in the warmer, Sunny days... If any of you haven't yet by then, that is. Which case I doubt.

Mayuri K.

Yelp
Chocolate paradise are the words that come to mind when you step foot into Vesta Chocolate. The smell when you walk in is just intoxicating that you don't want to leave. I walked in and was greeted by owner Julia and a new trainee. I've seen their page on Instagram so I knew what they were all about. She prompted me to check out the bank vault which was filled with their treats including their chocolate nut spread and their hot chocolate. Then I checked out their various bon bons and the other desserts by the front register. I decided to go with an earl grey bon bon because it's my favorite tea and a brownie. I couldn't wait to get home and try it. The earl grey bon bon was a rich creamy soft centered chocolate with a hard exterior that had that hint of earl grey. The chocolate just melted in your mouth. The brownie was so decadent. It was fudgy, chocolatey and had a nice crisp element on top with the cocoa nibs and I'm a sucker for cocoa nibs. Overall, I would recommend this place to all chocolate and dessert lovers. This is a place you just have to check out.

Steph C.

Yelp
Such a nice shop, friendly staff. Smells very good. Very pricey for small portions. I love that they are eco-friendly. Ordered a coffee and hot chocolate. Very nice place to try.

Alice A.

Yelp
If you love chocolate you need to come here. A delicious and unique select of bars of chocolate. Beautiful treats. My boyfriend and I often go in for a coffee and a brownie. Never disappoints. Owners are very friendly.

Teju P.

Yelp
The vegan hot chocolate is to die for! So yummy and rich. Must try. Pair the hot chocolate with their decadent brownie - and you are on your way to heaven. Only thing missing is the bubble bath? :) The location is unique and well organized - stop in sit for for a few and take it all in. Lovely couple passionate about their shop are a treat to chat with!

Mitch L.

Yelp
Vesta Chocolate is unique. Unlike any other chocolate shop I have ever visited. Organic chocolate, made from scratch in this charming shop on Valley Road in the heart of Upper Montclair. The chocolate brownie is amazing. The chocolate chip cookie, outstanding. The chocolates are a work of art and are simply delicious. The couple that runs this business know their chocolate. A charming couple that are welcoming and professional and are a welcome addition to Montclair!!

Vanessa J.

Yelp
Vesta Chocolate is definitely the spot to go to especially for some one of a kind confection creations. The staff are so knowledgeable and extremely kind. The bon-bons were amazing and highly recommend you to try one or all especially the caramel flavor. Their hot chocolate is very rich so definitely ask for water when you finish or ask one of the staff members for milk to thin it down. Along with the hot cocoa, their brownies are to die for! It's fudgy, salt and sweet combo, and enjoyable to eat. They have other chocolates too and even have a small retail space if you'd like to take some home.

Babs V.

Yelp
Recently visited the shop with my sister, I had purchased some very delicious chocolates on my last visit to the shop. patiently waited for the couple ahead of us to be served when another couple walked in. The owner promptly took the other couple ahead of us. We just sighed and walked out , no attempt was made to stop us or apologize. As An African American women this seems to happen quite frequently

Merilyn M.

Yelp
I love Vesta! I've tried a few things on their menu, from their sundae, brownie, mocha latté and the chai tea latté! My favorite is the brownie - so moist, fudgy and rich without being overly sweet! It has left me wanting more, but at the same time satisfied. Definitely worth the $7 because of the high-quality ingredients involved in making them. I can't wait to try other stuff on their menu, and more drinks! Still have yet to try their chocolate chip cookie. The ambiance of the café is also great- love that I smell chocolate right when I enter the shop and it gives me a happy and cozy feeling. Hoping Vesta is here to stay for a long time because I'm in love!!
