The 12 Best Tapas Spots In Madrid

"Big-time chefs don’t often collab with tapas bars, which is one reason to put Vi Cool on your radar. This restaurant, located on the lively Calle Huertas, is ideal for those who want a little more creativity with those typical Spanish ingredients of potatoes, cheeses, and meats. The €22 per person set menu includes plates like a woody mushroom carpaccio, beetroot and burrata salad, stewed meatballs with manchego fondue, and a more minimalist take on patatas bravas: a line of eight stand-alone crispy potatoes, each shaped like cylinders and topped with a dollop of bravas sauce. Vi Cool - Review - Barrio de las Letras - Madrid - The Infatuation

"Michelin-star chefs don’t usually collab with tapas bars, which makes Vi Cool especially unique. This place is ideal for those who want a gourmet and creative take on tapas at an affordable price. The €22 per person set menu includes plates like mushroom carpaccio, foie gras with raspberries, stewed meatballs with manchego fondue, and a more minimalist take on patatas bravas: a line of eight stand-alone crispy potatoes, each shaped like cylinders and topped with a dollop of bravas sauce." - Lori Zaino

Went here for dinner and it was incredible. The staff were all lovely, super helpful with the menu and even advised us when they thought we were ordering too much (they were right)! We ordered the tuna tartare, shrimp carpaccio, guacamole, prawn ravioli and white chocolate fondue with chocolate truffles. Every course was 5/5, highly recommend!

This was our favorite meal in Madrid. The ambiance was amazing, the food was delicious, the presentation was beautiful and the service was great! Highly recommend. We got the tasting menu and a few other things. Make a reservation!

Google
This little restaurant is an absolute gem. The place is small so get a reservation or take your chances. It's crowded for a reason. We each had the fixed menu at 15 Euros per person. It included a starter, a first dish, an entree, and a dessert. Everything, from the service to the presentation of the plates to the flavors, were simply divine. I started with the blended pea soup, had the wings, then the entree was the squid over pureed eggplant. After a week in Madrid, this was, by far, the best food we had, and we ate out every meal. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation.

A cute small place to have dinner in Madrid! We ordered the set menu for two (€24 pp), which included 2 cold dishes, 3 hot and dessert. The food was very creative and tasty! The staff was very friendly and even the chef was suggesting how to eat everything in order to taste the dishes to the maximum. Very impressed! Highly recommend it ☺️

Google
Great fixed-price menu during lunchtime. I would recommend booking a table before the visit since it gets crowded. Service was correct, the portions were quite generous, and the food was delicious. For dessert, go with the greek yogurt with granola—it is amazing!

Google
Service was great . I didn’t like something and they had no problem in changing it for something else . Loved the tacos , chicken wings and best torrija I ever had . They have a great lunch deal.

Yelp
This review is overdue. We went to Vi Cool several weeks ago. Small restaurant with unique and elevated tapas menu. Great service too. The food is excellent but I apologize as I can't remember what we had. They also have a great wine and cocktail selection. Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Food here is amazing! Was on vacation and found this place on a whim. Everything we had was great. We loved the patatas bravas and desserts the most! Please go if you have a chance!

Yelp
I had my one of my best meals in Madrid here. It's upscale Spanish-ish restaurant. It's classy, but not stuffy. Service was really good, and they didn't make me feel bad for rolling in at lunchtime in jeans and hiking boots with no reservation. I had the classic tapas tasting menu. Surprisingly, it was way more vegetable heavy than every other meal I had. All the courses were all really good and really different from one another. They were also light enough that I felt full by the end, but not too full. I felt like the kimchi chicken wings didn't fit with the rest of the meal, which was decidedly European, and they certainly didn't belong on the classic tapas menu, but they were good. I think they forgot to bring me one of the courses, but since I'd already had five or six courses, I didn't want to sound like a greedy American pig by complaining. Though now I kind of wish I had. I would have given it five stars if not for the measly wine pour, the possible lack of one of my tapas, and the chicken wings being a weird insertion into a European meal. But otherwise, it was excellent, and I'd definitely go back and try some more dishes.

Yelp
I love this food. The food was so good. It was the perfect combination of spicy, savory, and sweet. I ordered the 22 euro a person tapas mix. The chicken wings were incredible and i don't normally eat kimchi. The waiter would give us advice on the best way to eat a dish and was a great help. The entire staff was very serviceable and the food was incredible. I would definitely return every time that i am in Madrid

Yelp
Definitely go here and do the tapas lunch or dinner. So good. Everything is so fresh, unique and delicious! When we were here we ordered each option so we could try everything on the tapas lunch. Wow!

Yelp
Everything that I ate here needed salt, which is weird since I don't like salt. The only thing that I really love here was the complimentary bread with tomato puree. The food also made me a bit sick - too oily for my tastebuds.

Yelp
The 21 euro per persona completa meal was redic awesome. 4 tapas platos including gambas, patatas con queso, jamon iberico, pulpo y dulce de leche was all I needed after a long day of sight seeing. Great ambience as well.

Yelp
Great small restaurant centrally located in Madrid. Make a reservation, it's very small and eating is at a leisurely pace. Elegant dishes with flavor and presentation. Good wine selection. Not a lot of space between you and other diners, so if you're not interested in meeting others, you'd be better off elsewhere.

Yelp
Walking near Plaza Santa Ana, stopped in for lunch and enjoyed the pre-fix Menu of the Day. Potato croquettes were delicious along with the good sized portion of veal tenderloin; followed by a luscious scoop of mango ice cream. Hit the spot on a warm day in Madrid.

Yelp
Went based online recommendation.... we had the patatas bravas, Bombas and kimchi wings. All were very, very salty, especially the wings! We were only able to eat 3 of the 10 or so lollipops. We let the waitress know and she claimed it's because there's kimchi so I let her know that I'm Korean and that was by far saltier than any kimchi I've ever had. She told the manager (I think?), but he didn't bother to come by to recognize our feedback, apologize, offer substitute or to take off the bill. Instead he just had the waitress bring us our bill. We even ordered water just to offset the saltiness and were charged 2 Euros for it. Talk about adding salt to the wound! Ouch.

Yelp
It was fine. It was giving off that "cool" vibe and the food had that feel without being really good. There is a twist on all the dishes but I didn't find any of them to be that tasty. The tapas were modern--like burrata pizza, wedge ceasar salad--I just did not find anything to be that good. My parents had the tasting menu--it was fish heavy--raw fish mostly--it was okay. The patatas bravas were different and good. Expensive though for six of them. Almost no vegetarian options. I would never come back here.

Yelp
Best Tapas food I've ever had. Period. Got the fixed price tapas menu. For 22€ you get a panoply or flavors and dishes. Every bite was extraordinary. Struck up a conversation with the young Americano next to me. He told me he'd paid 80€ for a pris fixe tapas meal in Florence that was not nearly as good as this one. Service was friendly and helpful. Come early if you want to avoid the inevitable crowd that streams in every night. Mucho sabor!

Yelp
Popped in here for a quick taste. The service was top notch and friendly. The wine was really good. The odd thing was the food, while tasty it had an odd missing ingredient, as I will explain. The ceviche lacked any visible sign or taste of fish. The calamari lacked any taste of calamari. Very strange for a city that is not shy about ample portions. So to be clear, only two dishes both yummy but no taste of the actual ingredients.

Yelp
Everything was so very right about this place. The greet and seat was friendly and quick, without reservations early-ish on a Saturday night. Wine by the glass came first and was simple and tasty. Our waiter and his helpers were spot on. He knew the food, made a top quality wine recommendation and had a lot to say on the food and wine. His English was fluent and he was more than tolerant of my halting Spanish. Chef Arola's crew puts out amazing food. The highlights for us was the smoky eggplant and especially the marinated sardines in tomato oil. As the waiter said, those sardines are 'the chef's caviar'. Stunningly good. I am looking forward to returning to Madrid and Vi Cool will definitely be a stop.

Yelp
I had the seafood set menu, and I was totally underwhelmed. The food is certainly not worth the price. I've had much better food and wine at Tempranillo in La Latina.

Yelp
This is the new venture by über chef Sergi Arola and as most the über chefs trying to brand there name on everything, it is disapointing. This "cool tapas place" is not better than any other tapas place, it costs more and food is OK but not great. Won't come back.

Yelp
The food here was so flavorful, it made me stop talking just to pay attention to it. Creatively crafted, beautifully plated and surprisingly affordable (we went with the tapas tasting menu). The chocolate fondue (with fresh fruit) was so good--it ruined going out for churros and chocolate later on. Wasn't going to risk anything not being as good. The smoked egg plant was amazing. Shrimp, chicken wings, meatballs...all incredibly good. If I could only have dinner at one restaurant in Madrid, this would be the one. Every time. Notice the "Uncle Sam Wants You On A Harley" sign when you walk in the front door? Make sure to show them a picture of your Harley--if you didn't ride up on one--and you'll get a 10% discount. Seriously. The owner is friends with the largest HD dealer in Spain. Anytime I get food this good, wine this smooth and a discount for being a biker...it's my new favorite place of all time.
