"In case you’re unfamiliar with “Detroit-style” pizza, it’s all about the super thick crust that almost makes it something completely different from a pizza at all, and more akin to a cheesy bread-based casserole with toppings on top. Despite sounding like a bad experiment by Pizza Hut’s marketing team, Via 313 objectively puts something together that is simply delicious. Be warned - the sheer volume of bread in each square slice can put a hungry human under the table after three or four helpings. For pizza, it’s a little bit on the pricey side, but they can get away with it because the quality of food is so good. Food Rundown The Cadillac Our favorite pizza here: gorgonzola, fig preserves, prosciutto, parmesan, and a balsamic glaze. It’s heavy, sweet, and savory. The 500 A remixed pepperoni pizza with added jalapeños and pineapple slices. We’ve never been a believer in pineapple on pizza until this one. The Herbivore Their veggie option is stacked with olives and mushrooms and is one of your only creative vegetarian options beyond a simple cheese pizza." - Jordan Haro
"Via 313’s signature Detroit-style pies have become a rectangular staple in the Austin dining scene since they first emerged in 2011, and to this day they still serve the same purpose as they always have—an excellent vessel for soaking up drinks during a night out. It’s thick crusted (but still nice and airy inside), with a thick layer of crispy cheese around the edges where it hits the pan. Orders can take a while when they’re busy, so plan accordingly." - nicolai mccrary, raphael brion
"If your group is looking for a quick and easy dinner spot, Via 313 isn’t just efficient—it’s some of our favorite pizza in Austin. The Detroit-style (a.k.a square and thick) pies will also shut up the New Yorkers and/or Chicagoans in the group who won’t stop talking about what city makes the best pizza. This is a more affordable dinner option, if you’d rather spend your money on drinking later on." - adele hazan, raphael brion, nicolai mccrary
"With two trucks and many physical restaurants, Via 313’s Detroit-style pies are well-known in the Austin pizza scene. The thick-crust square pizzas are actually baked in auto-part pans from the Motor City. Pickup orders can be placed online. The restaurants are open for indoor and outdoor dine-in services; the truck’s host bars are open for on-site services with outdoor areas." - Nadia Chaudhury
"There isn’t a lot of Detroit-style pizza in Austin, so it’s a good thing that the people at Via 313 are pros at making it. For those unfamiliar, Detroit-style pies are rectangular with a super thick crust and basically a cheese casserole on top. After your first bite, you’ll forget that the Chicago vs. New York is even a thing, and be very glad there are a few Via’s around town. All are great, but we like the Guadalupe Street spot best for group dinners." - Adele Hazan
