Berkeley to Charge Restaurants Thousands of Dollars to Keep Parklets - Eater SF

"Peter Chastain, owner and chef of Via del Corso, spent about $100,000 to build the restaurant’s parklet and is willing to pay a fee to keep it, as it increases the restaurant’s seating capacity by about 20 percent." - Lauren Saria

Via del Corso - Review - Berkeley - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"For anyone who loved Corso and felt a weighty crush when they permanently closed fall 2020, allow us to bring good news. The new iteration of the fine dining Italian restaurant, which is located in the exact same space, is a great spot to drink some wine and eat some excellent regional dishes, like gnocchi alla norma, soffritto and beef-stuffed ravioli, and brown butter basted chicken breast. And sure, the cozy trattoria may still be a bit too cramped with tables, but the service continues to be warm and attentive and overall this place continues to feel both laid back and just slightly upscale. If you’re planning a special occasion dinner or date night around North Berkeley, Via Del Corso is a top pick." - Lani Conway

My husband and I enjoyed an incredible multi course meal last month with our dear friends! The service was AMAZING! We felt cared for, with thoughtful gestures from the moment we entered the restaurant. The Chef and his team created mouth watering dishes that absolutely delighted our senses! Cocktails were perfect! My God what a wonderful experience! We WILL BE BACK!

Our dining experience at Via del Corso was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and professionalism. The meal started with an array of delectable appetizers that set the tone for what was to come. The steak was cooked to perfection, the pork chops were tender and full of flavor, and the seafood pasta was simply outstanding—each dish a masterpiece in its own right. To top it all off, the chocolate dessert was the perfect sweet ending to a flawless meal. What truly elevated our evening, however, was our server, Emma. Her attentiveness, knowledge of the menu, and friendly demeanor made the experience even more memorable. Emma went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect, and we couldn’t have asked for better service. If you’re looking for a restaurant that delivers on both food and hospitality, Via del Corso is a must-visit!

Still the best staff, the best drinks, the best vibe, and hands down the best Florentine steak in Northern California, all coming from a open-air kitchen with a heartbeat, and chefs and administration that know what people want and keep everything on point. Highly recommended for your next special day. Place is kind of small, so I would recommend bringing an intimate date there as opposed to a huge family. Justin who works the bar makes some of the best drinks in the East Bay. All in all 10 of 10. So good in fact, that I utterly forgot to take pictures. And there it is! Maybe when I dig up some of my old Florentine pictures from when I went there a couple of years ago I will post them

The branzino was excellent! The combination of the slightly sweet corn puree with the pickled onions & cucumbers, with the salty delicate fish with crispy skin worked very well together. Excellent dish with an unexpectedly delicious combination of flavors and textures that didn't feel heavy. The steak was also very good - great flavor, cooked perfectly. Nice outdoor patio with heaters. Service was great. Cocktails were good as well.

Wonderful restaurant with a great bar and relaxed atmosphere. The rockfish and grilled bread were absolutely amazing — full of flavor and perfectly cooked. Great spot for a casual meal or drinks. Will definitely be coming back!

Came here because of the reviews and was disappointed. First off the service was not good. We stood at the greeting podium for a good ten minutes before anyone even acknowledged us while staff ran to and fro. After we sat down it was a solid 15 to 20 minutes before we were asked for our order. I understand the not rushing but at least come say hi? We ordered only water and were never offered refills. We did notice other tables had bottles of water at their table to refill themselves but our table was not given one. I had to ask someone to please refill our water. Just felt neglected. The food was decent. We started with a salad that was crunchy and well seasoned. My husband had the grilled shrimp. He said it didn’t taste right. It was slimy too. Perhaps it was pre cooked? I had the beet ravioli which to my taste was undercooked. I think al dente is great but when it is hard no bueno. It was only hard at the folded end. The other end was cooked fine.

Google
This restaurant is one of our top choices for date nights and special celebrations! We've returned many times, and each visit confirms why we love it. The food is fantastic, and the servers are friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Due to its popularity, the place is always bustling, and the tables are a bit too close together, but the experience is well worth it.

Google
Via del Corso is a gem that consistently delivers excellence across the board. From the moment you walk in, the warmth and professionalism of the staff set the tone for a stellar experience. The customer service here is truly superior—attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable without pretense, and always genuinely welcoming. The drink program is nothing short of masterful. Craft cocktails are thoughtfully composed and expertly executed, showcasing both creativity and balance. Whether you’re in the mood for something bold and spirit-forward or light and refreshing, the bartenders will guide you to something exceptional. The wine selection is equally impressive, offering a well-curated list that highlights both local standouts and distinctive international varietals. The menu is a beautiful blend of comforting staples and innovative seasonal offerings. Longtime favorites like the house-made pastas and perfectly roasted meats continue to shine, while the rotating seasonal dishes bring fresh perspective and excitement. You can taste the care in every bite—the ingredients are top quality, and the execution is consistently flawless. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick drink or settling in for a long, leisurely dinner, Corso is a place that gets everything right. A true neighborhood treasure.

Yelp
Fantastic! Last time we went, wife and I spent the next 24 hours talking about how great it was. This is a classy date spot, but not stuffy or formal. The rib pork chop is our go-to. Always amazing. We loved the crab pasta on our last visit too.

Yelp
We were recommended to Via from friends and we're riding high from a fabulous gift card we received for here. We had been to Italy just a year ago and were told this restaurant would be a close fit to a local Florence or Rome establishment. The that description was spot on from the lovely lit cafe tables outside, to the warm lighting and constant murmur of happy customers inside, but mostly with the truly delizioso food! We were early and asked to wait by the bar, which was also packed with those drinking and having a meal. I had The Ruse which was this over the top concoction of bourbon, bitters, honey, lemon, almond orgeat and orange bitters. It was beautiful and addicting. My husband had lemonade which looked to be made fresh by our bartender. We went all out and had prosciutto and melon- served very reminiscent of our Roma Christmas dinner, with slices of very high quality, subtly smoked, prosciutto over sweet cantaloupe, and a crostini with tuna and cannellini beans with sweet red onion. So good! I had the thin pasta with calamari and my husband had the thick noodles with a meat ragu. The pastas were definitely home made, and the sauces delicate and hardy at the same time. The calamari was so tender, which is a tell for the way it's cooked, and there was a lot of it with my noodles. I tasted my husband's and the sauce was creamy and light, if you can imagine. They also served just enough to enjoy, where you truly can indulge without feeling bloated. We had the ricotta cake and affogato with chocolate gelato for dessert. The cake was not overly sweet, but soft crumb and sweet cream and berries on the plate to bathe each bite in. I've been looking for a recipe to recreate it at home since we ate there. Lastly, I splurged on a dessert wine called Recioto della Valpolicella, to settle my meal. It was the perfect accompaniment to the meal and the dessert. What an experience! It was like walking into Rome. Our waiter was fantastic, as well. He was very prompt and could make easy suggestions when asked. I'm already fantasizing of when we can go back. It wasn't the least expensive meal we've had out, but a lot cheaper than hopping a plane to Italy! Bellissimo!!

Yelp
Came here for a valentines dinner date, the service was amazing, our waiter was very helpful with giving us opinions on what to try from the menu as well as offering refills for drinks. The ambiance of the resturant was very lovely & cozy, perfect for a date night. I would definitely come back and try more dishes. I had the Pollo alla Sostanza , the chicken was tender and juicy and paired perfectly with that butter. For dessert we shared the Pera al Forno which was great for after our meal. A bit pricey but was expected. Had a wonderful time and will be coming back.

Yelp
Been here multiple times and this Italian gem continues to impress, maintaining unwavering quality that show their dedication to excellence. During our most recent visit, we had their the crab meat salad. Even though it's slightly pricey, the generous portion of crab meat ensures the satisfying feeling of having a mouth full of crab meat in each bite. The ragu tagliatelle was another standout dish - with layers of flavors and textures, it's a dish that leaves a lasting impression, lingering on the taste buds long after the meal is over. Don't forget to leave room for dessert, as the true star of the show was the panna cotta. With seasonal flavors that elevate this classic dessert to new heights, this is the best panna cotta in the Bay Area. They have the perfect silky smooth texture, holding its shape without being too firm or too loose. Looking forward to dining here again soon.

Yelp
Went there last night with another couple. Beautiful neighborhood and we found parking around the block quite easily. Service is on point! Everybody was attentive and gave us the best advice when the right time comes! We tried as many dishes as we could and the chef didn't disappoint. Everything was delicious and tasty. Fresh ingredients is what you will get here. Our favorites are their pastas, especially the ragu tagliatelle! You have to give it a try. I would 100% come back! One of the best Italian restaurants in Berkeley!

Yelp
This is a small neighborhood Italian restaurant with outdoor seating in a curbside parklette, a nice carryover from the pandemic. Mike was our server. He was a good guy, but stretched between indoor and outdoor tables he was responsible for, so service lagged from time to time. We started with cocktails and a few appetizers. The complimentary fresh bread and salted butter (5/5) was terrific. The small charcuterie (3/5) was pretty good, but the tuna crudo(1/5) wasn't fresh enough and was fishy, with the avocado was a starting to turn brown and should have had more lime juice. It appeared to have been made a few days days ago. Our main course was much better. I had the grilled pork chop (5/5) with asparagus and finished with a drizzle of balsamic. Nice grilled flavor cooked to the right temperature. Amazing! My wife enjoyed her gnocchi(4/5)...and so did I. Soft, well made potato pasta with a brown butter-tasting sauce. The other diners in our party had the braised lamb with polenta, papperdelle (sp?) with meat sauce, and the pesto pasta dish. All said they enjoyed their main courses. Desserts were almond cake, cannoli, and affogatos. All were very tasty. Generally we really enjoyed Via del Corso. I would recommend having a salad for a starter and definitely order the pork chop. Give them a try if you are in the Berkeley area.

Yelp
Wonderful food, great service! My daughter took me there for my birthday, and it was a knockout!

Yelp
Paid $19 for a glass of wine that the server said was Italy's answer to Pinot Noir. It tasted like a French table wine, the kind that you're drunk on the floor before you realize you are not drinking water. The food was superb. The first plate in front of me was not what I ordered. I was so hungry dog food would have been great. This dish was just exquisite. It was more than half-consumed by the time the server realized it was a mistake. Then, "I'll get you what you ordered." But another dish came out which was once again not what I ordered, but wow, was it good, too! It's bad communication between servers and chef. I'll be back, putting up with any nonsense just to get magnificent food.

Yelp
Vito was our server tonight and he was amazing. Could see "super worn out, in need of a stiff cocktail" mama mode and I really appreciated being able to just tell him I like gin and he brought something perfect out. He also recommended the tuna appetizer when I said I have decision fatigue and that was super delicious. Also appreciated being able to call ahead and pre order the steaks since we have been here a few times before and I know it takes a while and I had hangry kids that devour steak. Thank you!

Yelp
We have frequented Via del Corso since they opened. It is a little jewel hidden in a neighborhood with impossible parking and the noise level is crazy but we love it, for the staff and for the food. The menu is light, has just the right amount of choices, changes seasonally and is always superb. Great bar, we have lemon drops on our table virtually 5 minutes after we have been seated. This week we devoured the Tuscan Style Chicken Liver crostinis and loved the Pan Roasted John Dory, a fish rarely found on the West Coast. So light, perfectly baked, with a delicious tomato, caper sauce. The service is impeccable with a congenial and charming staff. We are so thankful to have discovered this remarkable restaurant.

Yelp
Service was friendly and the food was very good. A few of us ordered the pork chop and we all loved it. It was cooked perfectly and was very flavorful. It also came with Romano beans which were good. The pastas looked good too. Others in our party had the pesto or meat sauce pasta and it was clean plates at the end of dinner. I'd come back to try other items.

Yelp
The ambiance, food and service at this place was amazing! I went with 3 other friends and Noelia our server was just the best. She recommended the best of the best in the menu and we were so happy with the food and drinks. I am definitely coming back to try everything else I didn't try. This place is a gem.

Yelp
We went to the Claremont Hotel for our anniversary a few years ago and our room and spa treatments were fine but the food was terrible! And, the restaurant was closed on Sunday, our anniversary! This turned out to be lucky, because we found Via Del Corso was open and had a great meal and wonderful time! The staff were friendly and so were the other guests. We just recommended them to a friend. We live down the peninsula, so it's pretty far from us, but we will be back!

Yelp
Actually debating between three and four stars so it's more 3.5 but grading up to give them a benefit of doubt. Maybe it was an off night? Go easy with that salt shaker or the vinegar jar spout, will you? Food : We started with 3 salads/appetizers shared by three of us: zucchini starter; little gem lettuce salad; and their seasonal watermelon salad. Zucchini and lettuce salads were dressed way too tart. Too much vinegar which was regrettable. To offset our disappointment, watermelon salad turned out to be a win- it was refreshing and dressed perfectly. Mains - we each ordered our own dish - (1) grilled pork chop with figs - a bit salty but luckily the sweetness of figs apparently worked to offset. The green pea snaps were very tasty cooked just right. (2) tagliatelle al ragu; simple basic and tasty pasta (3) taglioni with fish slices folded in. This was my order and as much as I wanted to like it more, it was a bit off. Pasta and fish seemed overcooked to my taste; flavors too spicy. There's no need for red pepper in my humble opinion. Overall the flavors lean towards the salty and I prefer a style that enhances and showcase the natural flavors of the ingredients. The waiter was friendly and charming- and observant to offer another basket of bread which was eaten more probably to accompany the tart and a bit salty dishes. We don't normally eat desserts but as it's a birthday dinner, we each ordered a dessert anticipating a birthday recognition as I shared this when I made the reservation. While highlight for our dinner was the dessert, they appeared to have forgotten to add the birthday touch - learning a lesson here that perhaps one needs to remind them as there appeared to be few other birthday dinners being celebrated. Desserts were excellent. They have a full bar with array of drink options- and I realize if you drink alcoholic beverages, accompanying foods tend to be flavored with a more punch to better match. Perhaps the restaurant caters more to those who have a glass of sweet Riesling or sherry to pair with their supper, thus theorizing our impressions.

Yelp
I oscillated between two and three stars for Via del Corso. Taken on its own, if the food were presented under different circumstances, it might have merit 3 or even 3.5 stars. But taken in the context of what they purport to offer, this eatery is a disappointment. In terms of ambience and setting, VdC is loud and buzzing; hard floors and poorly insulated ceilings makes it sound and feel like a frenetic spot. If you want to feel like you're in a busy, happening urban trattoria, this is it. I personally find such places fun and energizing. My senior citizen parents found it uncomfortably noisy. This is not a criticism or a compliment of the venue; it is what it is. But it does cultivate a certain vibe. In terms of the menu, it is also reasonably good. Prices are high, but not unreasonably so. They have a good, although not wide variety of wine choices; and of course, a selection of the now ubiquitous "house" cocktails. The food offerings themselves have a definite northern Italian bent to them (pasta vongole, bistecca Fiorentina, etc.), although there are some more generic dishes. All are well-conceived and described as if something special was being prepared. To the eye, they are indeed appealing. Service was spotty. This may have been to due to the sudden uptick in restaurant patrons after we arrived and ordered. Starters came out in good order; mains took a bit too long; the bill we had to chase down. I will give staff a pass on this one, but it certainly did not enhance the dining experience. Our waiter did say something prophetic, however. When I first inquired about the daily special--a boneless rabbit stuffed with sausage and wrapped in pancetta--I wanted to know how salty it was. His laconic response: "It's present." I chose not to order it, but his comment had legs. And that's where the real problems came: the contrast between the promise of something special and what one actually got. To be fair, there was one good dish: the insalata rossa, with radicchio, olives, oranges and anchovies. It was light and tasty, although the anchovies might have been integrated better into the dish. As for the rest? Non è possibile. The chefs are clearly using quality ingredients, but don't quite know how to use them. The biggest problem boiled down to this: all dishes were far too salty. We ordered three different pasta dishes, and while each noodle was perfectly al dente, the sauces suffered from the overuse of the salt shaker. The converse was true for other condiments: flavors were coarse, as was the case of the cipollini onions and marinated crimini mushrooms in the Antipasto Toscano. Or they were lacking entirely: the vongole tasted of nothing but sodium and a touch of clam; the tagliatelle with a "Tuscan-style" ragu was bland to the point of tasteless. Sadly, dessert was no better. Ordering a slice of the olive oil cake with rosemary, it turned out to be unsubtly sweet, lacking flavor, and unfortunately undercooked. In and of themselves, all our dishes were edible. In the context of a restaurant that seems to bill itself as a bit of Italy in North Berkeley, it was highly dissatisfying. One must wonder whether the owners of a "real" trattoria in Florence (or my Tuscan nonna) would feel good about serving the fare offered here. Or charging for it. Meals garnished with hubris need to deliver. Andiamo.

Yelp
Essentially, a neighborhood Italian eatery. Not a huge menu, but a number of items that piqued my interest. Had the spinach salad to start, and it was excellent. Generous portion. About fresh bread: Too many places bring overly-buttery bread, or buttery-cheesey sticks, or something that one is trying to pass off as garlc bread. This was just great, Bay Area sourdough. The way we used to have it all over the Bay Area (less is more, people, less is more). I had the house negroni to start. Wow, did I pick right. Great drink, not cloyingly sweet, with more than a touch of amaro. Would order again. My main was the cod, which included a thick, generous portion in a large dish of Italian beans and peppers and other vegetables. I also ordered the rosemary patates side dish at 10; while very good, just too much food. My one complaint is the noise level. Hard to hear the people with whom I was dining. It was comedic as we frequently mis-heard each other and needed repeats and do-overs all night. Outdoor seating next time. -- workingman's gourmand

Yelp
Disappointed in this dining experience--overrated and overpriced As some other reviews had said, the tables are uncomfortably close and you can fully hear and conversations of tables next to you. It was so hard to converse because everyone was yelling over each other trying to be heard. The starter bread and butter was completely cold and the other starters were both minuscule in portion size and underwhelming. The tuna bread was slightly better with its interesting combination of beans, tuna, and herbs, but the risotto balls were flavorless and about the size of a quarter. The Tagliatelle Ragu was fine but you can get the same thing (that's fresher) from Italian homemade for half the price. On top of all of that, the waiters were dismissive and kind of rude which might have been because we were younger. Overall, a regrettable experience.

Yelp
Outside, you see, sort of a blend looking parklets where seating is outside as authorized by the city after COVID. When you walk inside, you step into another world of customer service and elegance. The whole time we were there. The bar was full, and the restaurant tables were full. We were immediately greeted by a hostess at the front door, and one of the hosts opened the door for me as I walked with a cane. Very nice first impression. As I looked around, I noticed high ceilings, and the atmosphere inside was buzzing with energy. It was a little loud, yes, but people were having a great time. The hostess took us to our seat, the three of us, and immediately we met Victor, who brought us a picture of water and set us up with our glasses and bread and butter. Victor was cheerful and welcoming, and it was a very, very nice service that he provided all the way around. We had our menus for a while. Alexis, our waiter came and introduced himself to us and was able to answer precisely what the items on the menu were. And how popular they were, it was extremely helpful. It helped us narrow down our selection. As I looked around, I saw a happy diner seating sumptuous looking meal, and the bars remained so full. The whole time we were there that it was a beehive of activity throughout the restaurant. As our food arrived, I took care to look at presentation quantity and freshness. As I ate it, I made sure to taste all the levels of crafting that they placed into each portion. And we had agreed beforehand to taste off of each other's plates, so we would have the complete experience. First, we received the Antipasti Insalata, which was the Insalata di Spinaci. This is made with baby spinach, grapes, gorgonzola, and champagne vinaigrette. Next, we had the Spuntini arrive, which was the Sfizio di Formaggi. Consisting of Pecorino Fresco and Parmigiano Regggiano cheese. Also, a Squash Blossom stuffed with Ricotta Cheese, Marcona Almonds, the unique Tarallini, and summer Truffle Honey Drizzle. Then our Primi and Secondi Piatti arrived. I had the Tagliolini al Tonno. These were the thin pasta strands, with Tuna Conservato, Castelvetrano Olives, Anchovy, Capers, Tomato, and Calabrian Chili and mint. Our friend tried Trofie al Pesto. This has a Rusticchella d'Abruzzo Pasta "twists,"Genovese Pesto Basil, Pinenuts, Garlic, Pecarino Cheese, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Green Beans, and potatoes. My wife had the Branzino alla Grillia. This was a succulent grilled whole boneless Mediterranean Sea Bass in herbs. With garlic, baby arugula, lemon, and extra Virgin Olive Oil, too perfection. Everything we ate was incredible. It was all understated a little bit, so you weren't overwhelmed by spicycheat or too much garlic but romanced with underlying flavors that were delightful. We finished with the house Tiaramisu and Gelato with big smiles. Service atmosphere cleanliness was incredible. Yelp
This spot is popular. On a Saturday night it was packed, so atmosphere was fun, and service wasn't affected, which is always a great sign. Appreciate I was able to book a party of 4 at 7pm a few weeks out. Pro's: - The apps were solid and mains were good. The apps we ate were the tuna crudo and the chicken liver toasts. While nothing was unique per se, both were tasty. The rabbit and fish entree's both were really good and thumbs up for having rabbit on the menu; something you don't see too often in these parts. My party and I were disappointed with the pastas. While not bad, they were forgettable. We ordered the lamb al sugo and the ravioli and while they were cooked well, they were both pretty bland. For the price, I think they could use a bit more development. A decaf espresso martini to the end night alongside some solid desserts was a great way to end the dinner. Overall, a nice night out.

Yelp
Food is excellent, and ambiance relaxing and foody-ish. Dinner served was great but the dinner server moved my drink by covering my drink over the top and touched five fingers on the rim of my martini. Meh. Come on... I had to wipe it clean. That guy could use better training.

Yelp
Another delicious meal at Via del Corso! Perfect Caesar salad, olive appetizers. And the branzino is back on the menu (yay) and was superb. Service was excellent, as usual. Thank you, Via del Corso!

Yelp
Group of six for dinner. Excellent choices. Loved the Lamb Chops. Very attentive service in a pleasant setting. Will be back.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I went here on a Thursday night with no reservation - did not have to wait, and were offered a drink as soon as we sat. The piatto del giorno was cooked to perfection. The Costata De Maiale was delicious, the sweet and savory fusion was what really tied this dish together. The portion for the tagliatelle al ragu was perfect and did not feel too heavy. Will definitely have to come back!

Yelp
We went for a celebratory dinner last night, and had a nice time overall. Everything we ordered was good, though I do think a bit over priced. We both loved the beet salad, and the squid ink pasta was delicious. We didn't really appreciate being rushed out at the end with the check handed to us while we were still eating, and a family hovering over us while we were finishing. We did not take a long time and all 4 tables to the left of us had been there longer than we had, but they wanted to combine the tables to the right of us and add ours to accommodate a big family. Wasn't a nice way to end an expensive dinner.

Yelp
Many customers dining here get pretty dressed up, so I was glad I got a counter seat on a busy Saturday. The bartender Justin was really fun to chat with, and I am really glad I tried to pork chop he recommended. I usually avoid ordering pork chop dishes because restaurants make them too dry or use poignant sauces to spice up the flavor, but at Via del Corso the cut was really tender and the flavors complement each other really well. The ice cream in their affogato is from Almare down the street! Overall really warm and welcoming vibes, and it was fun to people watch the big tables and fellow solo diners at the counter.

Yelp
Via del Corso is as good as ever! I have not dined here in years, but an evening in Berkeley for a show at the Greek Theater prompted an early dinner, along with many others! We arrived early for our reservation, but no problem they promptly seated us. The service here was excellent. Our server made some excellent recommendations as he knew the dinner menu and wine list very well. Leave your fancy California wines at home for your meal here. Corso has some really fun and tasty Italian wines, served by the glass, carafe or bottle. I asked for two recommendations based on my preferred style and he was spot on, both were fantastic! We dined on the Lattuga salad (an incredible version of a Caesar salad) with lovely and bright lemon and parmesan dressing and crisp baby lettuces. On to the Tagliatelli with their in house made meat ragu, complete with beef, pork, proscuitto and more! It was heavenly. The main courses were the fresh halibut and the porch chop. I devoured every bite of the tasty and tender chop and my dining companion said her halibut was delicious as well. I can't say enough about the service here. This restaurant is definately a 4-1/2 star experience, and very well could be 5 stars. I hope to go back again soon rather than in a few years :)))

Yelp
My dad and I had dinner here before we saw Alvin Ailey. He had the tuna tartare appetizer, I had the warm olives. My dad had butternut squash (very yummy) pasta and I had the pork chop. I also had the olive oil martini and my dad had the Negroni. The Negroni and the pork chop were out of this world! Had to take some bites before I snapped a pic lol. Will come back here soon!

Yelp
The place was popular and crowded. Our table was a bit small for 4 people and it was right up the kitchen / prep area. Our server was nice, friendly and attentive. For starters, we had the Crostone con Stracciatella e Pomodorini and the Prosciutto e fichi and they were very good. For our entrées, we ordered the Tagliatelle al Ragù, Branzino alla Griglia and a couple of Costata di Maiale (grilled pork rib chops). The food was very good. Unfortunately, they messed up one of our guest's pork chop order. He got the Pollo alla Sostanza (chicken) instead. The server quickly realized that as soon as they set the plate down. He apologized, told us to enjoy the chicken dish on the house and he would get the correct entrée fired up asap. The dish took a while and by the time it came out, we were pretty much done with our meal. That was a bit awkward as we can see our guest hurriedly consumed his meal. We decided to try the desserts. The tiramisu was delicious! The gelato was good. But the panna cotta was awful. The texture was not smooth or creamy, kind of watery and tasteless. The strawberry sauce did not save this dessert. Not sure if it was just from a bad batch but surprised that they served it. Although our overall dining experience could be better, we did enjoyed the tasty entrées.

Yelp
My family of four dined at Via Del Corso last Saturday evening to celebrate my bonus son's birthday. The entire experience was excellent. Our Waitress, Emma, was a major sweetheart and really made it a night to remember with great conversation and a lot of laughs. We will definitely be back and will be requesting Emma's section.

Yelp
Excellent food - loved it. Unfortunately forgot to post sooner so I recall much. I know I had the pork chop and ate every morsel on my plate. It was tender, juicy, flavorful. The sauce matched perfectly.

Yelp
LOL so this place is within walking distance from my partner's place and we only just found it. AAAAAAAHHHH For COVID safety purposes, staff wear masks & hand sanitizer is provided. Not much social distancing. We walked in a Friday evening & somehow got a table when another party serendipitously canceled-- after getting seated, we saw other parties turned away....... PURE LUCK. Their outdoor seating consists of a few tables paired with heating lamps, tucked away from the adjacent street & wind by a wooden frame. BROCCOLINI DI CICCIO: How they manage to pack so much flavor into broccolini, I will never know. + super tender. INVOLTINI do SALMONI AFFUMICATO: Love these plump little rolls! The creamy ricotta + briny capers + smoky salmon = mouthwateringly good. CASUNZEI: My first time trying this & having trouble figuring out the correct terminology (Is it ravioli? Is it something else?)-- tasty nonetheless. Sweet & earthy. PANNA COTTA ALLA GRAPPA: Impeccable! My bf's never had panna cotta before. Silky, rich-- yet oddly refreshing. We loved the sauce & candied fruit. Vito was our lovely server-- he's the best! We were wowed by how effortlessly he greeted incoming regulars, gave detailed recommendations, and made conversation with everyone along the way. A true professional!

Yelp
My first time eating here tonight and it definitely won't be my last. From the time I walked in, the hostess greeted me with a huge smile and she was able to accommodated me with a table even though I didn't have a reservation. Then after my friend and I were seated, another worker greeted us while pouring our water. And then comes our waiter Veetor (sp?). He was amazing! I appreciated his service, his recommendations and his humor. Everything we ordered from the two appetizers (grilled bread with sliced peaches, zucchini and pine nuts), the two entrees (grilled lamb and pork chops) and finally the two desserts (flourish chocolate pudding, pistachio and cherry gelatos) were ALL AMAZING! The presentation and taste for each dish was simply beautiful! The head chef and crew did a fabulous job!! 5 stars all around

Yelp
Food and service were excellent. We've been here previously for our anniversary with mixed results. Two downers: the chairs are horribly uncomfortable they have cushions available if you ask ao they must be aware of this and we had mussels but there were no shellfish forks. I can figure the forks, but the seating is unforgivable in a fine dining restaurant.

Yelp
This was simply the very best pork chop I have ever eaten. And that's saying a lot...

Yelp
We had a 7:30pm reservation and we are still sitting outside, standing in the cold waiting for our reservation at 7:55pm. Unbelievably bad service, we got one apology when they sat another party ahead of us, no other consideration for our wait time. We were finally sat and were told that they had no more steak and had one order of the linguine with clams, which was what I wanted so I asked to put my order in. This is absolutely not my waiters fault, she was great, but she came back and said she was too late. It just felt like one thing after the other with only "sorry for waiting" and nothing to actually make us feel like we were being taken care of. At a restaurant of this caliber it felt pretty frustrating to see that nothing was comped at the end of the night. We tipped our waiter, Emma, 20% as she deserves but man... management really dropped the ball here. After such a frustrating wait and a lack of menu items, it felt pretty crazy to not have anyone apologize to us, especially because this was a birthday dinner for me and they knew that. Will not be returning.

Yelp
It's a great place with great food , all the workers there are friendly and nice and helpful. It was a busy night so it's took a long time to get the food so if you are hungry, just be prepared to wait just a little to long , at list that was our experience. Will go back there again for sure

Yelp
Came for date night recently and the starter (shaved zucchini) was delicious but quite small; my pasta was good but my partner for the duck and it was pretty underwhelming. Staff was lovely and nice atmosphere, but felt overpriced for the quality of our meal.

Yelp
My husband and I were wandering Berkeley one evening looking for a bite for dinner. We were going to the Italian place a few doors down but the crowd was a little too mature for us so we decided to try Via Del Corso instead. A cozy lively restaurant that fills up quickly. We were seated by the kitchen and got to see them make the food. I think that made the food even better. I've not had a bad meal yet!

Yelp
Excellent food. The lugata was basically a Caesar with a lite vinaigrette instead of the usual egg and oil mix. Very tasty and light. The taglione and meat sauce (not tomato) was superb and savory. The squash ravioli was perfect. The tiramisu was the best I've ever had. Great service. Loud.

Yelp
Came here for my 32nd birthday. Service was quick and all the employees were very attentive. Parking is difficult in this area though. The branzino sea bass was cooked to perfection. The appetizers (sliced yellow fin tuna, warm olives) were both seasoned well and came out in a timely fashion. My boyfriend ordered the chicken breast in brown butter w/ lemon. It wasn't dry and had a good amount of lemon so it didn't just taste like pure butter. My birthday cake (ricotta cheese cake) wasn't dry, but I think it needed a little bit more blueberry compote.Fun time for my birthday!!!

Yelp
We were in the area visiting our daughter and she recommended Via del Corso based on a previous visit...we are sure glad we went! Here is what we liked: - Comfortable, cozy atmosphere - Nice selection of wines at varying price points...we started with Prosecco and then got a nice Chianti for during our meal - The food was excellent! We started with the Bocconcini and Gamberi appetizers, which were a great combination. My wife got the Gnocchi, my daughter got the Agnolotti, and I got the Pappardelle. All the dishes were very tasty. And, we finished with the Torta di Mandorle and some Limoncello...what a fantastic meal! - The service was superb...attentive, helpful, but not overbearing. Bottom line: I would go back to Via del Corso in a minute next time I'm in the Berkeley area.

Yelp
Oh wow what an absurdly yummy meal! We shared the panzanella salad. Yummm! My mom had the pork chop. Said she couldn't imagine ordering anything else again. I had a half tagliatelle and half sea bass, though it came as a whole fish so I don't see how it could be considered a half dish and we were in such a hurry to leave (theater tix) I didn't check the bill. Either way, both were fantastic. I generally don't order pasta but I'll definitely get that again. The homemade egg noodles was verrrry tasty. The service....wow. It was by far some of the best I've had. It really makes for an enjoyable evening. The food wouldn't have even needed to be as good as it was for me to go back. That's how important good service is. I don't remember our waiter's name but we sat outside and he was the only one out there. We'll definitely request his tables again. We also had ppl checking in. Not disturbing us but u could see they were on top of their game, making sure customers were happy. Pretty sure it was the front of the house mgr (or maybe owner?) that was always checking on things but he wasn't the only one. I really appreciate that and it shows they really care. The bill was $160 (incl 2 glasses of wine, 1 ginger beer). A little pricier than my regular go to's in Oakland (Almond & Oak, The Wolf) but it could also be because I got 1 1/2 main courses. ‍ Either way I'll definitely head over from Oakland again. Very much looking forward to it.
