VIa Della Scrofa as road is a small Italian cafe serving up a menu of savory eats and coffee drinks as well as Italian grocery items. The cafe is located on a quiet street, so it’s a nice spot to grab a coffee and eats and stroll around the East Village or elsewhere. The interior is clean, well organized, and welcoming—has that local store charm as well as ton of high quality food items. no seats, grab n go only
The sandwiches menu contains a number of savory bites. Last time, I tried the “Porco Deddena”—porchetta (roasted pork), sun dried tomatoes, and smoked mozzarella on a small soft chewy baked roll. The sandwich is served warm. The porchetta / pork is amazing—fatty, flavorful, and savory. The sun-dried tomatoes has that intense tart sweet flavor that cuts through the sandwich. The smoked mozzarella has that subtle scent and taste of fiery smokiness and an earthy meatiness to it. The roll is has that soft chew carb-y grain that folds the pork, sun dried tomatoes and mozzarella together. This is a small sandwich that is worth every calorie because it uses such high quality ingredients and really shows off that simple can rival complex any day of the week for a meal. Porco Deddenna, $9.99 + tax + tip
