Via Emilia by Food Roots - Review - Shoreditch - London - The Infatuation

"Alert the press! Sound the sirens! It’s another bloody handmade pasta restaurant. This one’s located off little known Hoxton Square, and you would have called it a hidden gem a quarter of a century ago. We’ll stop bitching though because there’s some good stuff going on here. The gnocco fritto - fried bread - with charcuterie is very nice, as is the tomato spaghetti and the pork ravioli. Some of the other pastas are quite forgettable compared with nearby competitors, but the room is nice and it’s got an intimate (but not too intimate) vibe that makes it good place for the next time you’ve convinced someone to go on a date with you, or for a quick plate and a glass of wine with a small group of friends." - Jake Missing

U.S. Burger Chain Five Guys Heads Into Canary Wharf — Plus More New Openings | Eater London

"A Hoxton Square restaurant focused on the traditional cuisine of Emilia-Romagna, celebrating regional icons such as Parma ham, Parmesan, Mortadella, Aceto Balsamico, lasagne and Lambrusco. Many dishes are titled in the local dialect — for example turtlèin in brôd (tortellini in brodo) and tajadèl bulgnaisi col ragó (tagliatelli al ragù) — but the standout is gnocco fritto, a revelatory fried bread served as the perfect foil for fatty cold cuts and creamy squacquerone cheese." - Andrew Leitch

Started with the Gnocco Fritto (fried bread). You must try it, plain or dipped in olive oil and balsamic, it’s perfect! Paired the Gnocco Fritto with the three cheese and traditional meat platters. So good! The mains included the Tagliatelle with bolognese and the Tagliatelle with mushroom and garlic sauce. So well prepared, fresh ingredients and flavourful. The location is unassuming and petit, but absolutely worth the visit!!

Giulia was an incredible server. She was so helpful with food recommendations and really showed her passion for the food. The food was amazing. I feel like I’ve been eating Italian food wrong my whole life up until now! The added touch of a Tiramisu on the house for our anniversary was lovely, too. Such a wonderful atmosphere and great experience all round. Would recommend to absolutely everyone.

Needs sound-absorbing panels installed on the ceiling; all the surfaces are hard and bare and with two large work parties it’s deafening. Charming and funny service but long wait for food when full to capacity (2h from booking to final main dishes). Nice pasta! I understand the price was fair.

The food was great. The portions are on the smaller side, but the quality is top notch. The al-dente cooking is perfect. The staff was very friendly. Definitely a good address to know!

The food was unbelievably good, we loved both pastas and the starter. The staff were really kind, and definitely made sure we had the best experience.

I've visited via Emilia for lunch break as it is close to my office. The service was super quick, just perfect if you don't have that much time. The food is fresh and tasty and Giulia really took care of me. The starter experience is slightly pricey, but, hey, it's worth it!

Vibe is a great combination of british fine dining and authentic northern Italian. Pasta was homemade and had a great bite. Although we ordered the spaghetti pomedoro and cappellacci di zucca, the bread/cheese plate, lambrusco wine, and cacio e pepe were stand-out delicious. The service was great: personable waiter, seated us without a reservation, gave us the tour of each dish, and was very accommodating of my severe nut allergy.

Lovely little spot! Fresh pasta made on site with authentic taste and feel. Sharing type set up. Went for a work lunch. Wish we tucked into the wine menu! Friendly and timely service too with other watering holes close by for before or after. Go for the spag bowl, cheese/ham/bread, spinach ravioli and the soup gnocchi.

Yelp
I have eaten here 3 times on this stay and each dish has been excellent and not too much food. Portion size is spot on, but freshness is over the top. Definitely recommend. Service was outstanding as well.

Yelp
Great little restaurant with true home style Italien pasta. I had two different gluten free pastas that were both great. The service is exceptionally good. Portions are not too big so if you want to share they recommend one or two per person but we found it just right. Staff is friendly and the experience was really enjoyable. Recommended!

Yelp
Via Emilia is a Northern Italian eatery around the corner from Hoxton Square, a short jaunt from the Old Street tube stop. Food: Delightful, simple, yet elegant and delicious. We began with a bread order each, paired with the mIxed cheese for two. Warm, delicate puffs of bread, which you'll then use to warp around the cheese selection. For two people, they recommend 2-3 mains to share. We ordered the 3, 5, 6. I'm quite positive you can't go wrong with any of the choices. Pasta is made fresh, and it is divine. Service: Friendly and accommodating. We did not have a booking (highly advised as we showed up at 7:45pm on a Wednesday to a full house,) but they managed to squeeze us in as some folks were leaving. Attentive, and food comes out as it's prepared. Cost: Breads, cheese plate, three mains, two drinks, ran about £56. Overall: A neighborhood gem, and a must try. Only nit: don't sit by the two top next to the front door. It doesn't shut the whole way and either the cold air (January here) will get you, or the cigarette smoke will. Takes cards/cash.

Yelp
Amazing restaurant with food from Emilia, very authentic flavors. I had Pisarei e Faso' and Gnocco Fritto with a mixed platter of cured meats and they were both delicious. The restaurant itself is pretty nice and service is good and friendly.

Yelp
This restaurant is amazing! Small, cozy and really warm and friendly service. The food is so, so good - especially the bread! I love that the portions are smaller - they're just perfect. It's very reasonably priced as well.

Yelp
This place is just wow! The food is outstanding, the portion are a bit small, pasta prices are from 5 pounds to 11 pounds, this last one is not a great value considering the area but definitely recommended.
