The 17 Best Vegan Restaurants in Sydney, Australia | Eater

"At Annita Potter’s Thai restaurant, Good Food Guide’s 2023 chef of the year fortifies her vegan fish sauce with fermented pineapple and offers one of the city’s best vegan tasting menus. The multicourse, plant-based meal starts with a mandarin appetizer electrified by lemongrass, makrut lime, and shallots, followed by items like green curry wafers stuffed with coconut-braised radish and longans, red curry potatoes, and stir-fried corn and asparagus showered in golden garlic." - Lee Tran Lam

Viand located at Woolloomooloo is not your traditional Thai restaurant. Annita Potter, head chef puts her own twist on flavours with her seasonal menu. We shared the eight course chefs tasting menu. Standout dishes were the crispy rice noodles with Moreton Bay bugs pickled garlic golden shallots and chillies and the coconut and galangal soup of black lip mussels assorted mushrooms and chilli jam. There’s an extensive wine list and a private dining area for larger group bookings.

Dinner at viand is a very tasty and unique experience. From the welcoming staff to beautifully thought-out layout of the restaurant, we had a wonderful time. Food was very fresh, visually appealing and flavourful. There's also a cute art gallery to explore between courses if you wish!

We went to this restaurant to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. For me, I am a person who doesn't like Thai food, but the experience this restaurant gave me was extraordinary. I have never experienced such delicious Thai food. Every ingredient is used very cleverly, the design of the restaurant is also very beautiful, the overall color tone is very harmonious and atmospheric, and the chef's service is particularly enthusiastic. It can be seen that she is a person who loves her industry very much and puts the needs of customers first, which makes me feel at home.

My husband and I had an amazing dinner at Viand last week, and we were absolutely blown away by the experience! Annita and her team were exceptional, providing top-notch service that made the evening even more special. The dishes were beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. It was clear that so many carefully selected ingredients went into each dish, all cooked to perfection. We can't wait to return to Viand for another unforgettable meal soon! 😍

Nice atmosphere. Arrived at 12:45 half of the restaurant was seated yet there’re only ONE server & one chef for the entire restaurant. Stir fried beef was super salty, meat was too well done hard to chew. Curry prawn was watery.. Food were not even to the standard and the server claims they serve royal thai food not street food but hello even street food have better taste, texture n authenticity. She also said only dinner time food are much better and different. So disappointing.

Last night 14 of us have the wonderful experience of dining at Viand. The food was amazing and beautifully presented. The subtle favours were mouthwatering! The courses were well paced so we had a nice amount of time between each one. There was only the one sitting so we didn't have to be conscious of finishing our meal by a certain time. Even although there were 14 of us nobody had to wait for their serving as everybody was quickly served at the same time. The staff are friendly and very efficient. The atmosphere is gorgeous. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough.

Dining at Viand was an absolute delight! Every dish, from the fresh, zesty salads to the smoky, tender grilled skewers and bold, aromatic curries, showcased meticulous craftsmanship and premium ingredients. Chef and owner Annie's warm hospitality, along with her attentive staff, made the experience truly memorable. Special thanks to the gentleman and his family for inviting us to this delightful dinner. ⭐ Highly recommended!

We were eager to try this restaurant after the chef Annita Potter was awarded Chef of the Year - it did not disappoint. The food is a slight departure from the norm one expects from Thai food. All the correct notes were present : sweet salty sour piquant bitter and the amazing aroma of Thai spices but what Viand does is take it a notch higher and with food items that one does not expect (the duck in a ball with betel nut, the quail curry are examples of the out of box combinations). The open kitchen is nice. So we get to see the action and the chef taking charge - it’s obvious she has a deep understanding of the flavours of Thai cuisine & well deserving of all the accolades she has received. The restaurant itself is inviting, charming and the tables nicely spaced out. There is a nice partly covered courtyard and if you have a lager group - it would be nice to occupy the long central table here. Service is warm and friendly. Only set menus are offered and although it does alleviate you from making choices, we would have liked to see a small Ala carte menu. 5 course menus are only offered Wed and Thur. All other days - you have to take the 8 course menu. Overall, we found it a little expensive and wished a few small tidbits or snacks were thrown in the set menu. We did enjoy our meal overall.
