18 Best Indian Restaurants in Raleigh, Durham, Cary | Eater Carolinas

"Viceroy is a little bit London and a little bit Mumbai, with a dark, moody interior reminiscent of a British pub and a menu serving what they call “modern Indian cuisine”. There are momo bhel (vegetable dumplings with crispy noodles and a housemade Szechuan sauce), peri peri boti (grilled beef kabobs in a Goan-inspired marinade), and aangara tikka (smoked and spiced chicken kabobs). For the true British-Indian experience go for the London mixed grill, a combination of hariyali chicken, lamb, masala shrimp, and the English classic — chicken tikka. The specialty cocktails are some of the most unique in town, and there is an extensive beer list and wine offerings as well." - Matt Lardie

I went with a group of 10 people after an event at American Undergound. We arrived around 9 PM. It took a while to get a table but the wait was worth it because our server was very friendly and patient with our questions about the food. I got myself Sarson ka saag, medium spiciness. It got just the right amount of heat. My friend got himself chicken vindaloo and unfortunately it was too spicy for him, even with naan, so I helped him finish his plate. The highlight of the night was the Pani Puri! I've never had it before and wasn't sure about the correct way to eat it, but I liked how crunchy the wheat bowl was and the sauce had a nice kick. Everything was on a more expensive side, but totally justified for how big the portion was! We appreciate that this restaurant opens pretty late. Definitely good for businessmen and other night owls. Side note: make sure to order the turmeric mango lassi! That beverage goes well with almost any meal.

Cadbury rice pudding is really where this review needs to start and end. Divine. Excellent beer and wine and cocktail list too - but the star is the British style Indian food with a twist here and there. Service is excellent. A must visit in downtown Durham.

Really glad we went here. Food is next level and while on the pricy side is very, very good. Chicken Korma and Saag Paneer were incredible. Very friendly service and a terrific place to eat. Definitely will be back.

We dined at Viceroy on a Sunday evening and were thoroughly impressed—from the charming art-deco façade to the nostalgic interiors lined with colonial-era portraits and warm lighting, this place hits all the right notes. We began with the Momo Bhel, a delightful Indo-Chinese street-style mashup bursting with spice, crunch, and tang—definitely a fun starter. The real showstopper, though, was the Angara Tikka: juicy, smoky, and marinated to perfection, it quickly became our favorite dish of the night. We followed it up with the comforting Paneer Mykanwala, which had a rich, velvety tomato-based gravy and soft paneer cubes, served with cumin-infused basmati rice and Garlic Naan that was pillowy and fragrant. Everything paired beautifully with a chilled pint—reminding you this was the British-Indian fare. The service was just as warm as the food. Our waitress was kind, attentive, and made sure everything was served just right. The pacing of the meal gave us time to appreciate the cozy ambiance and enjoy the layered flavors. Parking nearby is street parking, but in case you run into issues finding street parking, you can park in the nearby Corcoran St. Garage(parking is free here on the weekends), which is a 3-4 minutes walk to the restaurant. Viceroy is the kind of place where both the food and the setting linger in your memory. Whether you’re after a romantic dinner, a comforting Indian meal, or just want to try something different in Durham—this place delivers. We can’t wait to be back here!

We had an exceptional Indian dining experience in the RTP area. Our server was attentive and accommodating, providing the table we requested and ensuring our comfort throughout the meal. The food was exquisitely prepared and remarkably flavorful. Overall, the quality of both the cuisine and the service was outstanding.

The food is amazing! Staff is accommodating and well versed in dishes offered as well as having fabulous recommendations. They do a great job describing spice levels and won't leave you disappointed. The drinks are fun and delicious too, you can tell the curators love what they do. We had Ki on a Friday night and she was the absolute best! You can't go wrong trying out the food here 10/10 would recommend. We've been multiple times and each time planned our next visit before leaving.

Looking for great vegetarian options but came on a Saturday without a reservation (highly recommend reservations). The staff was VERY accommodating to find us a table. The food was amazing! Tons of traditional Indian food and some fusion with British Pub options. Service was excellent (thank you Kai!) Highly recommended! Warning- no “non spicy” options but the “mild” was very nice and definitely mild even by my standards (I’m very sensitive)

Having heard mixed reviews from a few of my friends, I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious the food was. Smoked daal was great but I loved the Mykanwala better (good balance between cream and tomato). The gobi was super fresh and food came out fast. Highly recommend. I’m excited to try the drinks next I come.
