"Tacoma’s Lincoln neighborhood is the city’s epicenter for Vietnamese dining, and this long-tenured spot is a great example why, serving steaming hot bowls of pho that travel well, plus abundant bún noodle bowls, stir fry, and more. Phnom Penh noodles topped with a raft of cilantro are a must." - Meg van Huygen, Sue Kidd

"A Lincoln District institution, Vien Dong is recognizable by its corner lot and angled brick facade set with floor-to-ceiling windows. For almost 30 years, this local establishment has offered huge portions of Vietnamese standbys like rich beef-broth pho, vermicelli noodle bowls, and lemongrass barbecue beef with broken rice. The weekday lunch hour is hopping, and no wonder: A large pho is twice the size of an adult’s head and not much pricier than a cup of coffee." - Charlotte Muzzi

Google
We came in right after the parade of Lunar New Year, and got lucky to beat the crowd. There were a lot of tables and space, and the waitstaff was really quick and all friendly. I will say, this was probably the fastest I’ve ever seen a bowl of pho made, and I had my doubts. But it did not disappoint at all. The egg rolls were hot and homemade, and our meals were delicious.

Google
Very fast service once seated, popular place during lunch, reasonable prices for serving size of pho, highly recommended. Definitely a repeat, servers were very polite and attentive. Had 7a medium, very delicious reminded me of Vietnam.

Google
Everything here is so yummy. We got Bun Bo Hue and Hu Tieu Kho and officially entered a food coma in Tacoma. Highly recommended!!!

Google
I eat so much tofu pho here, I love it so much, I feel like the veggie mix has more stuff than most places, and their coffee is legit with the little dripper thing and not from some super sweet mix. Delightful

Google
I love the food and prices. nowhere else beat the prices here. The owner is very friendly. I would recommend trying this place. What I got was number 41 on the menu

Google
Although the waiter was very nice to us, this is about all I can say that was positive. This place also didn't strike me as very clean. Unfortunately, food here disappointed us. Couldn't finish our meal. Boneless grilled chicken turned out to be an undercooked chicken breast. Egg rolls didn't taste good. On the bright side, chicken pho was okay.

Google
I love this place it’s like home I have been going here to eat for 23 years either my family it’s definitely a place everyone should visit!!! I even got my husband addicted to vien dong he loves to come here sooo often! It’s such a good family friendly place and the food is soo good and worth every penny

Google
Quick service, great food and the atmosphere was ok. Prices are at 12.50 and I had yakisoba with tofu. You have options such as chicken and beef if you don't like tofu.

Yelp
Love Vien Dong, I have been eating here for like 3-4 years and used to drive from Olympia just to get their food. Now we live just down the street so I can eat here as much as I want!

Yelp
Food taste was as expected but the meat was seemed a little overcooked . Not sure. The noodle dishes were lukewarm unfortunately. Service could leave much to be desired. The space is small so please be aware that a large party is not going to fit here. It's on the street corner so there's some parking in the lot next to it but will most likely be full since it's shared with other businesses. Going to pay was a bit of a nightmare because there was a line waiting to get seated and a line to pay and there was no space. In addition, we waited quite awhile to get the check because we thought it would be better to stay out of the way but no one ever came to check on us. My friends and I discussed that maybe this place got some popular views online and couldn't handle the foot traffic. So please consider a time where it might not be busy to get a more pleasant experience! We arrived around 11:30am and got a seat right away but the lunch rush picked up quickly.

Yelp
I saw this hole in the wall place off IG. My friends and I thought, wonderful it'll be a cold day and soup is always nice. We went on a rainy day and the place was pretty chilly because of where the entrance is located. The place has a little wear and tear and could use a bit of sprucing up along the walls where customers are seated. As soon as we sat down the restaurant was busy. I was really looking forward to eating my Phnom Penh noodles, the broth was good but soup was warm and cool, halfway through my meal. My friends also said the same about their soups. Another said her meat on her rice dish was dry. I had asked for hot tea and no hot tea arrived. By the end of our meal we sat around looking to see if our check would be brought to the table or we had to get up to pay. We went up to pay and it was just hectic with no space at the register.

Yelp
This location is a typical pho place in the south Tacoma area. The pho soup broth is flavorful and really does not need any additional flavoring. The service is fast and friendly and location is clean enough to enjoy. I would recommend you drop in if you are in the neighborhood.

Amanda L.

Yelp
Went here based on good reviews. We were basically ignored from the minute we walked in, waitstaff helping other people, walking past us, table busser walked past us. Some other waitstaff finally came and sat us. We ordered before another couple of tables but they all got their food first. Waitstaff eventually told us they forgot about us! Coffee was cold. Food was just ok. On top of the poor service, we will not be returning.

Cher B.

Yelp
I had the 7a combo pho. Broth was savory and good ratio between meat and noodles. The service was great and fast ( I did go early though so not sure how it is when it's busy). The place was clean and welcoming... I like to stop by a good place like this when I'm visiting Tacoma and get my pho fix!

Debbie N.

Yelp
Delicious food priced favorably. I will drive 20-30 minutes here versus go to other places closer. Food was plentiful for bun thit nuong cha gio. Authentic Vietnamese. Husband and I both enjoyed our food

Project Pat H.

Yelp
Y'all.....I have tears in my eyes. Look at my collections, I have an entire collection devoted to finding the best Banh Mi in Tacoma. I have found it. I truly mean this. Been to almost two dozen Banh Mi places in Grit City and I can't lie this place is best. As to why? You might ask... Best bread Most meat Freshest vegetables Perfect amount of Mayo Trillest service Best prices ($6.00!!!!!) I damn can die a happy man now. I cannot imagine any way you could improve upon the Banh Mis and spring rolls that Vien Dong be peddling. Stay trill y'all. 5 stars.

Vanessa B.

Yelp
Small, no frills shop with a surprisingly big menu selection! There were a lot of veggie options, which I always appreciate. I got the medium veggie & tofu pho but opted for beef broth - veggie broth was an option, though, for any vegetarians out there. It was delicious, flavorful, and I left feeling full and warm on a dreary, rainy day! I also tried one of the pork skewers which was alright, but the pho was the star of the show. There was plenty of street parking available nearby, with lots of angle-in parking on Yakima Ave. It was pretty quiet on a weekday afternoon and I was seated and served my food probably within 10 minutes. I will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
Disgrace of a com tam, at this point I'm just typing to meet the minimum character requirements

J T.

Yelp
Great authentically nolstagic taste for great price. This place could be a regular stop for me

Sam L.

Yelp
A small mom-and-pop Vietnamese restaurant. I think this place is more known for its pho, so try to get at least one pho dish when you're here. Arrived around 10 AM and it was easy to get a seat and wasn't difficult to find parking as there's angled parrking in front of the restaurant. ..... BUN XAO CHAY: 4/5 personal noodle to veggie ratio was off, but the sauce was very tasty - a lot more veggies than noodles CAFE SUA: 4/5 be prepared for very strong coffee taste

Frederick U.

Yelp
This place definitely hits the spot if you're looking for a warm home made meal! No frills Vietnamese restaurant and it took my sister and I a while to find the place as it is pretty secluded and the entrance is on the side. We both got pho w/ brisket & tendon and also their chicken skewers and it was very tasty. Price is very good value given the huge portions and staff were very helpful. Will definitely come back again.

Derrick G.

Yelp
This is a good, no frills Vietnamese Restaurant. I ordered the combination vermicelli noodle bowl, which had pork, shrimp and egg rolls; also, I ordered yakisoba with shrimp, both dishes were very good. My meal came with hot tea, which was a nice accompaniment. The staff were very helpful and courteous. Overall this was a good experience.

Trent S.

Yelp
Went to Vien Dong Restaurant for the first time today. Being Sunday lunch, I figured it'd be hard to get a table. Nope! Walked right in and the food and service lived up to the hype! I'll definitely be returning!! Had the pho with fresh spring rolls. Incredible.

Saori T.

Yelp
Their house fried rice is amazing! The pork chops were great. It is a tried and true Tacoma staple and never disappoints. We ordered the fresh roll, house fried rice, pork chops and the pork skewered vermicelli bowl, the portions were quite generous.

Jason S.

Yelp
Our go to place for the best pho in Tacoma. Small place with great flavor, been going here for over 20 years and still the best pho, I also like their vermicelli bowls are yummy too. Thanks for the great food

Fay R.

Yelp
Love this place. The food is delicious. Easy to find parking. Kinda old building, definitely wear a sweater if it's cold outside because it will be cold inside. Good size portions. Friendly staff

Eleanor W.

Yelp
The pho was great and we enjoyed the grilled pork banh mi. However, we didn't enjoy the fresh spring rolls as the pork was not very flavorful. Plus the restaurant was really dirty and I just wanted to leave as soon as possible... the server brought out a high chair for my son to use and it must have been covered in about a year's worth of grime. We didn't use it. The floors and the tables were filthy. I'm Asian and I've eaten at some pretty dirty restaurants. But this one really threw me. I thought that overall it was a decent meal. But not so good that I would want to go back. There are better Vietnamese spots around

Gabby R.

Yelp
I come here every Saturday and order takeout. I discovered while i was pregnant and Vien Dong had been a staple craving that satisfied my wants and needs during my pregnancy and recovery. I love the incorporation of vegetables in their dishes. A family favorite! Best pho around me!

Erika R.

Yelp
I really like the rare beef and the spring rolls. Those are my favorite. I always go there during the daytime and see Kevin he's the owner and it's really nice I like the location I like the restaurant itself it gives you that home feeling.

Judy M.

Yelp
Food and service is great. Decent size portions and price point! A family owned restaurant and service is always great.

Veronica P.

Yelp
If you are looking for a welcoming, authentic Vietnamese restaurant, you need to visit Vien Dong. We are always greeted and welcomed in by name! We usually order their special pho and eggrolls, but also enjoy their vermicelli bowls.

DaYonnah A.

Yelp
Normally the spring rolls are very good but this time the rice paper was very dried out . As if it was sitting for almost 15 mins or so. Normally they're fresh but this go around i wasn't too impressed on one of my favorite things from this place. The customer service is always great and quick . Just wish i had better spring rolls .

Rene D.

Yelp
Never disappointed here. Sunday afternoon and busy but not too busy. I decided for #25 today porch chops and broken rice. It was soooo good. Bf usual 7a and a Bahn Mi today. Man that Bahn mi was super crispy too. It's the same sweet pork as my chops! Love it!!

Devin T.

Yelp
As a Viet raised in Houston, take my word when I say the food is AMAZING!!! The waiters are nice and knows the area well And you get very large portions of delicious authentic food

Anna Z.

Yelp
We have been here a hand full of times. Pho broth is amazing, very light on the meat toppings though. Rice plates are always good. We always bring the family here when we are in the area.

Brena A.

Yelp
Ok, I'm a PHO and Hu Tieu snob. I lived in the Portland Metro area for many years and learned what was good and bad. I also worked at a Pho Restaurant during my college career and learned about the process and what it takes to make a good broth. Can I tell you, I drive an hour to come eat here! Everything is amazingly delicious and the ingredients are fresh. The owners are wonderful to talk to and every now and then I get to say hello to their children who are now in college and still come and help when they can. I am never disappointed when I come to eat and my meals are always so tasty. I wish I lived closer and it might be a daily takeout location.

C.M. D.

Yelp
The seating area is very small and cleanliness was not great. I got the #32 fried rice with Tofu and the onions were not cut well compared to the ones in my other 1/2's dish, on top of being undercooked. I'd go back to try other dishes since the place seems to service authentic cultural food. However, the parking situation is a bit stressful

Aaron G.

Yelp
I have been eating here since the owners daughter who is a waitress now, was wondering around learning to walk. The food has always been great and the owners are the most delightful people. 10/10 would recommend.

Rachel L.

Yelp
Bomb ass grilled pork banh mi. Great flavor and a little sweet (good way). Also their Mayo in the sandwich was fire. Prob mixed with sweetened condensed milk and prob best banh mi in Washington.

James S.

Yelp
I'm surprised I have never reviewed this place. When ever someone ask me where is good Pho, I always recommend Vien Dong. I truly believe they have the best Pho. My wife and I both ordered Raw beef soup Pho. She had a small and I had a large. We also ordered their summer roll. We have never been disappointed when coming. I highly recommend this place. I love their broth. You can tell how fresh their food tastes. I have come to this place for decades and still enjoy how consistent their food is all the time.' Their customer service is always excellent.

Elliot J.

Yelp
The pho and ban mi I had might have been the best I've ever had. The service is great as well.

Sharna E.

Yelp
The food was very good at decent prices, however the service left something to be desired, all of our food came at different times and the beef salad was the last the last to come to the table, everyone else was done eating ! Would go back because the food was delicious, one more chance on the service.

Sasha T.

Yelp
Very delicious Vietnamese pho restaurant! We came here from Atlanta to visit family in the military base nearby. We really wanted some Vietnamese food since we didn't go into the city. We stopped by this little unassuming place. It is a very modest size, but I can tell it can get very tight inside. It reminds me of the Vietnamese restaurants I went as a kid. Menu is what you would basically see in any Pho restaurant, so there were no surprises there. We both got the medium bowl with beef flank, raw steak and I got the tendons added. It was really great because we came when it was chilly. It took a little bit for the food to come in, but we were in the middle of a dinner rush. Food was just what we needed when we were there. We recommended the place to my husband's brother and his wife because it was very delicious!

Tiffani A.

Yelp
Vien Dong is hands down the best! They've been in the neighborhood FOREVER & their food is just amazing.. Pho, yakisoba, chicken katsu are my personal favorites but they have so much delicious food. They're always my go to & they never disappoint. Everyone is super friendly & they truly appreciate your business. The food is ALWAYS flavorful, no matter what you choose to get there!! 10/10 alwaysss

Hannah Y.

Yelp
Good food, big portions, low prices, and customer service! The medium size felt like a large and it was only 8.5. I like how you are able to customize your own pho and what you want in it!

Julia L.

Yelp
Still okay. Had pho bo last week and the service is friendly, there are a few updates to the space. One big tip though is to NOT sit close to the bathroom. I could smell it and it was unpleasant. I just didn't move because I already sat down. That and you will be in front of their fridge. Which when opened, is quite cold. I happened to be there when they were stocking so I learned my lesson. But with a mom and pop restaurant like this passed down a generation, it is what its is. I started coming here when I was a baby so there's lots of nostalgia for me.

Jason P.

Yelp
The place is not much on the eyes but they have great food, a large selection and it is affordable. Friendly staff and our orders always come out fast. No frills but great grub.

Terra C.

Yelp
Great food, prices and friendly staff. We got the seafood, chicken and tofu/vegetable pho. We also got the potstickers. All were delicious!

Crystal T.

Yelp
I order from this place all the time. The owners are awesome and the food is bomb & consistent.

John C.

Yelp
Really decent Pho restaurant in the Asia city. The Pho was delectable with excellent pieces of meat in it and a smooth not so greasy broth. The veggie plate also nice. What they fell short on was the Phnom Penh soup with the wrong type of noodles and broth. 1 out of 2 not bad. :-) will be back when in the area.

John S.

Yelp
The best Vietnamese food and the best pricing for the last 30 years at least. Consistent high quality, tasty authentic food at great prices. .

Teiana T.

Yelp
Food tastes good but after leaving, I saw that they had left the back door open. That was the door for the kitchen, and it was literally disgusting. I feel like the health department should definitely come and check out that place because it literally looked like there was rodents living in that kitchen

Benjamin T.

Yelp
A bit of a hole in the wall, lackluster decor, well worn chairs, and tables that are held together with glue and tape. Our waitress didn't seem to want to work. But for the price of what you pay, I can say it's a pretty large volume of food and overall pretty tasty. Disappointingly they didn't have the chicken wings which is one of their more popular dishes. The eggs rolls are crunchy but taste like they were frying for way to long. I got the pork chops and rice dish, and it was well seasoned and had enough for two portions. It was not enough to convince me to stay for dessert. If you looking for a lot of food that pretty affordable it meets that mark, but I would look elsewhere for a meal that knocks your socks off.

Hannah T.

Yelp
This is absolutely the best pho I've had. Real, authentic, Vietnamese food. The prices are so affordable for both the quantity and quality. There was so much noodles and meat in my medium sized pho, it was huge. There's lots of variety of pho and customizable too. They also serve southern style noodle soup (Hủ tiếu)! This is a real hidden gem in Tacoma located near Bambu. I'm so excited to try the other dishes. Overall, the best true Vietnamese restaurant. Amazing service, food, and price! Highly recommend visiting and supporting this wonderful family owned business!

Adam P.

Yelp
Don't think too hard about what to eat. Just go here. Food is excellent and fresh. Prices are great. Staff are friendly. Call ahead for takeout. Was so good I went twice in 3 days in Tacoma.

Cross S.

Yelp
Ok, for the most EXCELLENT Vietnamese food Sacramento is the place to go. Washington has some really good Vietnamese places but Vien Dong is at the highly raved Sacramento level! The flavors! So far this is THEE best Vietnamese place in the state. The prices are NOT overly inflated. I WILL most definitely come here again.

Sharon C.

Yelp
Love the inexpensive prices here :). The lowest prices I've seen for a pho place by far. I used to come here all the time with my family 10 or so years ago. Pretty cool seeing the same man working here (Kevin I think). They've slightly raised prices but not by too much. Pho noodle soup ($6.50 for small): Pho gets a 4/5. I got the chicken pho. The broth was refreshing and clean. A bit darker than other chicken phos I've tried. There's tonsss of noodles in here. The small is definitely pretty small, but it's similar to a small/regular size you would get at another pho place. So it's a good portion for the price. The basil and bean sprouts they give are fresh too. #20 skewered BBQ pork vermicelli bowl ($7.25): This gets a 4.5/5. Again, TONS OF NOODLES!! There's romaine lettuce under this mass of noodles, and there are also carrots, cilantro, peanuts, and bean sprouts in the bowl. I used about 3/4 of the fish sauce they provided which was enough for me. The BBQ pork was serbombbbb. I was craving both pho and vermicelli bowl, so I got both. But there's a dish that's basically vermicelli bowl that comes with broth on the side. I would get that next time instead of getting two whole dishes LOL. Finished them both nonetheless! ;)
