The Best Coffee Shops & Cafes In Chicago - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Vigo Coffee may seem low-key, but it high-key wants you to be productive. This Lincoln Park coffee shop has strong wifi, big windows letting in tons of natural light, and a quiet semi-private conference room you can reserve (for free) for your next Zoom 1-on-1. The coffee is decent, and there are beautifully laminated croissants plus chilaquiles and avocado toast to snack on. Despite all this—and the fact that it’s open until 5pm—Vigo Coffee is rarely crowded, which means there are zero excuses to avoid finishing those slides due tomorrow." - adrian kane, john ringor, veda kilaru

Best coffee shop in town! In a neighborhood with a bunch of options, Vigo is head and shoulders above the rest. Super friendly knowledgeable staff. Great, clean ambiance that's perfect for remote work. They even have a private room for conference calls! Good selection of pastries and even some lunch sandwiches as well. And super creative drinks (outside of coffee) My wife and I took our kids there when they first opened, and their owner was so kind to our family, that we've made it a point to keep coming back.

Came in first time to get a coffee really quick. Seen they had horchata everything so got it in a latte. BEST drink ever. Not too sweet not bitter at all. Love it. Def will be back to enjoy again. Super friendly and nice quiet study spot

Owners were so incredibly sweet and kind, you can tell they put their heart into their food and business. The espresso in their latte’s is bold but smooth and their homemade syrups are incredible! My favorite was their prosciutto toast it paired sooo well with the smoothie. 10/10 recommend and there is plenty of space to hang out from!

VIGO Coffee in Lakeview is a hidden gem that’s quickly become my go-to spot for a chill vibe and top-notch coffee. I grabbed their horchata latte and it was a game-changer—smooth, just the right amount of sweet, and the cinnamon hit perfectly. Paired it with a chocolate orange brioche, which was flaky and had this zesty kick that balanced the richness. The space is bright with big windows, making it ideal for working or people-watching. They even have a semi-private conference room you can reserve for free, which is clutch for meetings or focused work sessions. The staff is super friendly and clearly passionate about their craft. All in all, I spent around $10, and it was worth every penny.

Cute little spot with some great drink and pastry options! The chocolate orange brioche was tasty and felt seasonally appropriate. The horchata latte was good as well. Good variety of seating options, nice light and fun music!

I lovedd visiting this coffee shop! There was a clean and pleasant atmosphere with plenty of seating. The counter seats were comfortable and you get a great view for people watching. I tried the vanilla bourbon iced latte and my life has been completed, I also tried their hot matcha latte and while I'm not the biggest matcha fan it was definitely one of the best matcha lattes I've tried. Hope I can find the time to visit again soon! 😊

Google
This place has lovely lighting and a great chai latte—super spicy and not very sweet. The croissant tasted like day old on a Sunday at 11 and they didn’t head it up until we deemed it inedible without warming up (if yours not baking in house then all croissants need to be warmed up). The smoothie was also a glass of milk. So given this whole experience 3 stars feels fair.

Yelp
This was a modern and fun cafe. I was impressed that they make their own horchata. I ordered an iced horchata chai latte which was pretty good. They had some games and cards available for customers to use. I love that they had a small enclosed space with a table and chairs which would be great for group study or work sessions.

Yelp
Grabbed a caramel latte yesterday in this convenient spot in Lincoln Park. Clean inviting interior with two friendly baristas. I was in and out in no time and the latte was expertly crafted.

Yelp
Bright, airy coffee shop at the busy corner of a 6 way intersection with a good selection of coffee and non-coffee bevs. Not the easiest to park but good for walkers or those who take CTA (bus stop in front). Coffee is strong and smooth and they offer Vereznay pastries - yum! Minus one star for profanity in multiple songs playing rather loudly overhead - not a family friendly coffee shop? Not tasteful when I'm trying to enjoy a slow morning coffee and pastry and have to hear f bombs. Tons of seats and a bar but I was the only customer. Competitive corner - there's Big Shoulders at the same intersection & Coffee Lab on Lincoln (both of which are a must try & always busy). If they changed the music (at least during earlier hours), I would come back to try their horchata espresso and work in this naturally lit environment.

Yelp
I was really excited to try this place, because I like how unique the idea is. I ordered the Cafe de Olla latte, which is supposed to taste like vanilla, cinnamon, cloves, orange peel, etc. It just tasted like vanilla. For $7, I expect better. I didn't order it iced, but it came iced (which I was glad about as it was 90 degrees outside). However, it was half ice, which again feels like too much for a $7 drink. Very disappointing. Save your money.

Yelp
Horchata chai tea was seriously so good! Only 3 stars cause the worker was kinda rude but I'm willing to come again and hope he's in a better mood!

Yelp
What a lovely little spot!! My toddler and I visited the other day for tea and pastry and it was really good!! The barista was really accommodating- he found some tea without caffeine for my son and iced it for us and even offered to add a little sweetener- just nice and above and beyond! Our almond croissant was soooo yummy- I wasn't especially hungry but I couldn't leave it alone. My cortadito was really tasty too and more importantly, provided enough of a jolt for me to make it through the rest of the day. We sat in the cafe for about an hour, enjoying the music and the bright atmosphere while I read to him. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Stopped by Vigo Coffee for the first time this weekend because I was looking for a good avocado toast, and on Yelp it looked like Vigo had some great looking toasts! Unfortunately when I got there, there were no toasts on the menu. Not even the prosciutto toast or any toast was available.. maybe they took toasts completely off their menu?! I was pretty bummed.. but ended up getting a croissant instead. The croissant was good, but definitely not what I was looking for. The service was so great though, the girl working the counter was so friendly and made the visit so enjoyable. There was also plenty of seating, I loved that they had couches but also the counter space with extra chairs as well. Overall, I hope they bring the toasts back, but I can see myself coming back here to get some work done!

Yelp
I am so impressed with this coffee shop! The space is beautiful, tons of natural light and good vibes. So essential especially during Chicago winters ;). The owner and staff are so friendly, kind and helpful. The coffee was delicious - can't wait to try more of their homemade syrups and flavors! Such a unique and fun change . And the croissant sandwiches were amazing. Looking forward to returning to this local coffee shop!

Yelp
VIGO is a gem! One of most consistently good coffee spots I have found all over Chicago. The employees are knowledgeable, patient, and friendly. I especially appreciate the meticulousness of the employees (weighing the espresso grounds, etc) to ensure a consistent drink. They have a delicious bourbon vanilla latte that I frequently get. Definitely a great place to pick up a coffee, and an even better place to bring some friends to chill and catch up!
google avatar

Yelp
Great new coffee spot in west Lakeview. They make their own syrups . My latte was delicious ( not to mention beautiful). Standard coffee options available too of course and lots of hot chocolate options too ( including spicy wicked hot chocolate which is my favorite!). Spicy mango smoothie on the menu sounds intriguing too. So many more items to try - will come back for sure and try the food too. Friendly service and ample seating available too.

Yelp
Was walking around the neighborhood with a friend and we decided to stop for a bev! She wanted an iced coffee and I wanted a matcha (with oat milk)! We liked our drinks. One thing that stood out to me was the conference room! There's a quiet room if you need to come to get work done or meet with a small group. That's pretty cool- and an appealing option for the WFH crowd or students! Congrats to the new business! We're rooting for you :)

Yelp
Cute coffee shop with such nice baristas! I had their almond milk matcha latte and it was delicious.

Yelp
Honestly pretty solid spot in my opinion. I'm not tryin to be a hater but I actually prefer this spot over the other coffee place near by. I eventually will try all the flavors so I'll update this review whenever I do but I really liked my iced vanilla bourbon latte. It was pretty good, it costed me about $7, I for the larger size and it was extra for their syrups (which don't quote me but I think it said they made it in house which is cool). Also service was really nice and welcoming, I didn't feel rushed or feel bad asking questions about things I wasn't sure of. Ambiance- when I went in there was not many people so it was kinda like your average quite-ness aside from music playing and maybe one other group of people talking. They also have Wi-Fi which is nice bc it's a nice spot to do your work, chill, people watch, and drink some coffee. Oh they also had food there like pastries and I think birria which is interesting- again once I try more from this place I'll definitely update my review but for now, it was pretty solid!! Definitely will be coming back.

Yelp
Food and coffee are great. I love that the ambiance and the cafe is open and so bright with sun! They have an open room that you can use if you want to do some private call or video meeting. What a gem!

Yelp
10/10! Well deserving of the 5 star rating. Unique toasts, awesome pastries, even better service. Great location, make sure to stop by! We got the prosciutto toast (it even has brie on it!), blueberry muffin, almond croissant, and latte with horchata syrup

Yelp
Rarely do I leave reviews on Yelp, unless I feel compelled. I also don't mind paying $8 for an iced latte so long as it doesn't taste bad and it doesn't take an unnecessarily long amount of time. I came in on a Friday morning and it wasn't too busy, maybe 3-4 other patrons who had already ordered or had been served. I ordered one iced latte and started waiting. After waiting for about 15 minutes and seeing another patron who came in 5 minutes after me receive their order of 3 drinks AND food, I went to to the counter to ask the girl if she had the latte. Within a minute of me asking her they made it. That was the frustrating part, I think they just forgot about my order and it wasn't even busy in there. Disappointing because the coffee was alright, just poor service.

Yelp
Expensive stale pastries. Rude, slow staff. No concern for customers. Avoid. There are many much better options nearby.

Yelp
If I could give partial stars, this would be a 4.5, but I would round up to 5 rather than down to 4! the short of it: i had the dark chocolate vineyard latte and the capresse croissant sandwich; both were very, very good! the latte i would absolutely get again. it was almost exactly $20 for coffee and sandwich both. i would say the coffee was worth it, especially since it was a specialty drink. the food i would probably pass on next time. For more detail, Vigo does a lot of things right. The menu has a few interesting options while also having some staples. It has the seating for working and also plays the music at about appropriate volume to facilitate that (i can't even begin to say how much i appreciate that; i have sensory issues and most cafes are HELL for me because they are playing the music at club volumes). they have clean, gender-neutral bathrooms and an interesting but sleek dining area. it took a while to get my order, though, and my barista forgot to warm my croissant. this leads me to my one criticism which is that, while there seemed to be at least 3 staff members around, there was only one barista. and this was during lunch hour! poor guy knocked it out of the park and was really fast for being the only person working the front, but this would easily be solved by having two people at the front.

Yelp
Great space, friendly service, lots of seating! I had the iced mocha and it was one of the best mochas I've had recently. Would definitely come back!

Yelp
Cafe de olla is superb! Great ambiance and set up. Really friendly staff. Welcome to Oak Park!

Yelp
So clean, so vibrant! This lovely little spot needs more people rolling through! Service was excellent! The staff was incredibly kind and friendly, offering up a recommendation at the sight of our ambivalence -- it did not disappoint! Refreshing, cool, revitalizing; if we hadn't already eaten I would have tried the chilaquiles they have on the menu. Definitely need to come back! Plenty of seating and outlets too if you wanted to work from here!

Yelp
Great coffee and service :) Nice ambiance and lots of space. Would recommend their Horchata or Cafe de Olla flavors!

Alikssa A.

Yelp
I've been hunting for a new coffee shop and I was so excited to try VIGO since it's a Mexican coffee shop. I ordered a "Brunt Caramel Coffee" as well as the "Horchata Coffee/Mexican Culture" both iced. When I say I was disappointed I mean I was disappointed. The coffee wasn't that bad but nothing special. One coffee tasted like straight up like syrup the more I mixed it and the other tasted like a watered down horchata with a weird aftertaste. Overall I spent $27 for 2 iced coffee 20oz, 1 concha, and 1 Chipotle torta. I will say the chicken torta was pretty good.

Yelp
It is currently 4:20 on a Sunday, online it says they are open until 8pm and not a soul in sight. Very disappointed, was looking forward to it.

Yelp
Incredible coffee! My boyfriend and I love this place. Really dope people work here too.

Yelp
Awesome new coffee shop right on the corner of Lincoln and Diversey - killer cold brew (both light and dark roast) and friendly service. Big fan! Glad to have another great local business in the neighborhood.

Ken S.

Yelp
They're still working out the kinks. I appreciate the manual espresso makers. But service is slow for a coffee spot. The flavorings were anemic. Hopefully they get it together.

Alexandra Y.

Yelp
Nothing too special. Kind of slow making the coffee. The chocolate orange brioche was kind of dry and lacked flavor.

Kelly P.

Yelp
Great corner coffee spot in Lincoln Park/ Lakeview. The atmosphere is inviting, staff is friendly, and they have a great drink and food selection, my favorite is the matcha latte.

Lydia H.

Yelp
A great WFH cafe! There is a quiet room to take calls, and great lighting. The vanilla bourbon syrup was awesome. Would for sure go back!

Sabrina K.

Yelp
Amazing margarita croissant, super fresh! Nice space, quick to stop in on a walk i the area

Anusha T.

Yelp
Cute new spot, great to work from and has delicious coffee and plenty of seating near outlets.

Ashlee A.

Yelp
The service and coffee here is AMAZING. The coffee + prosciutto toast was delicious. The staff/ownership was welcoming and very kind. New favorite coffee shop!

Marina M.

Yelp
New little coffee shop with great vibes, creative flavors and most importantly great coffee! Can't wait to become a regular.

Sanna E.

Yelp
Delicious coffee and super nice staff! It's brand new so they're still working out some kinks, but overall it's a friendly, affordable addition to the neighborhood. Definitely an upgrade compared to La Borra Café.
