Cafe at Villa San Michele Review - Anacapri - Capri - The Infatuation

"Over 100 years ago, a Swedish doctor named Axel Munthe visited Capri and loved it so much that he built a home on the ruins of an ancient chapel. Today, Villa San Michele includes a small museum filled with Roman, Etruscan, and Egyptian artifacts, a garden with sweeping views of the Sorrentine Peninsula and Vesuvius, and the 1,000-year-old Barbarossa Castle that’s perched on the mountainside. After exploring the grounds, climb the steps to Café Casa Oliv for a glass of prosecco and a slice of a chocolate torte. In the summer, the cafe hosts evening drinks after 7pm—they call it Apertivo con Billy, a tribute to Munthe’s pet monkey who was known for stealing sips of whiskey." - Gillian McGuire

A true gem of Italian experience. The tranquil energy is immediately apparent with the wooded setting that one reaches only after climbing the mountain (I did it on foot from Greve so my arrival was especially magical). The hosts are kind, generous and fully committed to you having a wonderful stay. The property, meals and rooms were exceptional. I cannot wait until I can return!!

This is a wonderful place to stay. You are in a Park where you can walk for miles. The rooms are fine. The people who run it are lovely, knowledgeable, and skilled. Daniel has a wide and deep knowledge of wine that he shares so sweetly and Alice is warm, sweet, and a brilliant chef. The food is amazing. Don't be discouraged by the dirt road, it's not difficult. I am so grateful for our stay.

Truly fabulous place to stay in Tuscany. Location, room size & quality are all top notch. Up on one of the highest hills in the region and directly next to a national park, Villa San Michele is a great place to relax in quiet nature or get active & enjoy the excellent hiking, cycling, etc the area has to offer. The restaurant is fantastic -- home cooked and local food along with great wines from the area. Recommend coming for dinner even if you aren't staying at the hotel. On top of everything else, the hospitality from Daniele & Alice really makes this place magic. Our stay felt like spending a few nights at a friends house. They do everything they can to make you feel at home and they are just lovely people to get to know & spend some time with. We hope to be back soon!

The place is authentic, nestled amidst nature and Chianti vineyards. The restaurant also offers an authentic experience, with quality products even for breakfast. The owner provides excellent advice on Chianti wines, which are high-quality and well-priced. Exceptional value for money for those wishing to immerse themselves in authentic Tuscany.

A wonderful oasis in the middle of Chianti region. If you are looking for a soulful, quiet, peaceful, breezy, full of colours and nature, beautiful and full of wildlife place, this is it. Just try not to come with “city life” attitude, for this is not somewhere fast and furious like everyday living; it’s an ancient place, rooted here like an old olive tree and you must respect this and its ways. If you are open to enjoy this kind of slow living and feeling, this is the place for you. Here you will find Alice and Daniele, a super cool couple full of joy and respect for this place: they are true hard workers and will be always there for your need, no matter what they are. P. S. Be careful on the way in, because google might send you through an awful road: If approaching the place the path becomes too harsh, there is a small chance you’re on the right but for adventurers path, and might wish to get to the regular one, way easier.

100% recommended! My wife and I have stayed 5 days in this wonderful place. It is a very quiet and rustic place, in the middle of the woods. The owners are Alice and Daniele, they are a beautiful couple who put a lot of effort and attention to make you feel like at home. Alice is an amazing chef and everything she cooked was fresh and tasted so good. Daniele made great wine recommendations during our dinners and suggested us a beautiful hiking track which we enjoyed a lot. No matter if you are a family or a couple, I recommend everyone to visit, stay and eat in this place. Grazie mile Alice and Daniele! Carles

Hidden gem in the Tuscany mountains. Fantastic experience in nature, in lovely decorated, spacious, clean rooms and by the super friendly owners. Dinner was an absolute highlight with local & seasonal ingredients and delicious local wine. Many hiking and exploration options. This property has been our best experience within Tuscany! Please make sure that you follow the address description you receive from the owners after the booking. Yes, they are in the woods as they say but it is quite easy to reach them 😊 If you find yourself climbing the mountain and having offroad experience, you are using the wrong way 😉
