The Giant Eater Map of New York City Slices

"I like pizzerias squished into tiny spaces, where the ovens dominated the visual landscape and a single employee serves as pie wrangler and cashier. Just down the block from an important subway stop, Village Pizza is just such a place, with a surprisingly large collection of slices for its cramped premises. The Buffalo chicken is one the best, featuring a cut-up chicken cutlet and tart sauce that delivers a spicy and vinegary tang. Some say this slice was invented by pizzerias trying to get in on the football-party delivery action without actually doing wings." - Robert Sietsema

Eater Critic Robert Sietsema Picks His Favorite Pizza Slices - Eater NY

"This shoebox of a place with a faded sign offers the West Village’s best slice, which isn’t that much of an accomplishment since the pizza in this neighborhood tends to be terrible. But care and experience goes into making pies that fall way short of ostentatious, with a thin, crisp crust and generous quantities of cheese. It’s a toss up which I like better, the plain cheese or the Buffalo chicken slice — so I give you both." - Robert Sietsema

The crust is perfectly crispy, and toppings are generously portioned, creating a satisfying flavor balance. The friendly staff adds to the overall positive dining experience. Village Pizza is a top choice for delicious, no-fuss pizza in town.

Google
I stopped by after smelling the pizza from outside and it was worth every minute! David and Laura gave us great customer service and put extra love into the pizza! Would definitely recommend for a late night bite or a quick meal on the run. Fast, easy, and delicious :)

Google
The pizza was nice. I tried the bacon and pepperoni pizza. The flavor was nice and it was a good option as a late night snack. The servers were friendly, too.

Google
I had a really disappointing experience at this pizza place. We came in as a big group, all ordering slices to go, and the staff member behind the counter completely lost his cool. Instead of being accommodating, he started raising his voice at us because we needed several boxes for our slices. It was honestly embarrassing. We were just trying to enjoy a quick meal, and he seemed frustrated by the simple request. I get that handling a large order can be a bit much, but there’s no excuse for treating customers like that. The pizza was decent, but I won’t be coming back after that experience. Definitely not worth the hassle or the bad attitude.

Google
Village Pizza is the tiny pizza place that most folks are sleeping on…the pizzeria is clean, has a couple of tables for dine-in, and has that old school vibes in an updated space. takeout and delivery seem to be the bulk of the business here. this pizzeria serves classic NYC plain cheese slices—and that is the only pizza you should get here. a somewhat thin crust, flavorful sauce, and a smooth melty layer of cheese. the crust has crispness and the eventual soft chew; the sauce has isn’t sweet or salty, but nicely balanced; and the cheese is stretchy and blobby. the thin layer of grease/oil that doesn’t need to be dabbed off completes the taste experience of a NYC slice shop. there are topped slices and pies but the magic is with the plain and simple. plain slice runs $3.27 + tip the service is friendly and relaxed.

Google
A basic pizza place that is worth a stop if you are going through the west side looking for a quick bite. I had a simple slice that told me to grab another

Google
Warm, cheesy slices for cool wintery walks. The perfect spot for a quick slice on the go—though there are some indoor seats if that's your thing. Service was fast, friendly, and delicious, just the kind of place to pop in mid commute. Take your slice across the street and enjoy it on a bench at Jackson Square. Share some with a squirrel or a sparrow even though the signs say not to, help a lost tourist find there way, or joy soak it all in with a delicious slice from Village Pizza in your hand like I did.

Google
First they gave me the wrong order( which they did correct). The pizza itself was served lukewarm and tasted low quality and old. The buffalo chicken pizza was terrible. It was drowned in sauce and just gross. I have never met a slice of pizza that I won't eat until I went here. I took a couple bites and threw it out, I didn't know it was possible to make pizza so bad. Stay away, do yourself a favor and just go around the block to Rosetta pizza for a better slice!

Yelp
It's been some time since I've been to Village Pizza, while not exactly as great as my go-to excellent pizza places elsewhere downtown. However, I'm happy to see this "old school" place still in business considering how many places have been pushed out due to increasing commercial rent. Passing by, decided to give Village Pizza another chance for a plain slice. This time, the crust was definitely better, crispy and tender, yet the sauce and cheese were just OK and due for improvement. Regardless, if you're in the neighborhood looking for a reasonably priced, true New York-style Neapolitan slice, then Village Pizza works well! Note - It doesn't have much seating, but that's all right especially if you're getting a slice to eat as you go! That being said, so many pizzerias have opened up relatively recently in the West Village with definitely 5-star slices. However with this classic, long time solid Village Pizza, it's unlikely you'll have deal with a wait behind obnoxious people creating a ridiculously huge line out the door so they can add an IG pic of their visit to show their friends how trendy they are!

Yelp
Very surprised to give 5 stars to such a random spot that had like 7 leftover slices. But wow, the chicken bacon ranch was insane! Well reheated, the sauce of ranch was terrific, the chicken was tasty. The crust was super soft. $5. So good. Ate in the nearby park.

Yelp
We recently visited this establishment with a large group of 30 college students. Unfortunately, upon arrival, there was some confusion. An adult from our group inquired about accommodations for our large party, intending to give advance notice. Man do we regret coming in. the situation became chaotic, with misunderstandings and tension arising between our group and the staff ( the younger Hispanic guy spent a lot of time yelling at the adults and the students) We would have appreciated clearer communication if handling a large group was challenging for them. Despite the issues, we are grateful for their efforts in feeding our students. We hope this feedback reaches the owner to ensure smoother experiences in the future.

Yelp
Best kept secret very surprised by the plain slice. Old school pizza place with very little room for indoor dining. Very old school ambiance. Very fast service

Yelp
They say locals don't frequent the "busy" pizza spots so I went to where the locals go... Rec by a local herself. It is a small shop, no wait on the more nicer side of town. The worker was super nice and had a great sense of humor. I was so bummed my bf took the last sausage n pepperoni... insert sad face. He only had pepperoni left and was like I CAN MAKE YOU ONE. My face immediately lit up! Only to realize... he just needed to add sausages ontop. We all laughed so hard. Regardless, A + for effort and customer service. Pizza was thin with a nice crunch to it. I love pizza with a crunchy crust. Cheese was not as melty as we'd all like, but it also was very cold out. One ny slice is more than enough.
google avatar

Nicole B.

Yelp
It's a pizza joint and its ok not the best but still a very tasty nyc slice! The spot is small so seating is real limited. There is a park across the street. so on a nice day a slice or two in the park to people watch a good lunch day.
google avatar

Bruce K.

Yelp
There's nothing wrong with a slice of pizza to go. Easy in, easy out. Pizzas already on the counter and ready for a walk after a brief time in the oven. I got my slice and enjoyed it very much. A little doughy but a delicious combination of crust, sauce and cheese. It needed nothing except the plate it was served on. [Review 18336 overall - 336 in New York - 1858 of 2022.]

Yelp
A great and classic New York pizza experience! It's a small shop with only seating for about 10 so it's mainly a take out. The staff were kind enough to cut my toddlers' pizza into smaller cubes. Overall great experience!
google avatar

Alicia B.

Yelp
Really good sliced pizza in New York. Just what my family and I needed on a summer day. There's seating on the inside but not much. Just a grab and go scene. The guy who served our pizza was kind enough to cut one of the slices into smaller pieces for my toddler son. This was greatly appreciated. We had a slice of cheese, broccoli and chicken, and the Hawaiian slice. All were yummy tasted great. Definitely check them out in New York.
google avatar

Yelp
I have to say pizza has been spotty in NY. Trying to always find a cheap and decent slice is not easy but I LIKED THIS PLACE. Got a pepperoni slice as well as a mushroom slice. Both great and highly recommend. Small shop, great people.
google avatar

Suresh D.

Yelp
I was in here around 2 today. No other customer there. I looked at what was in the display. I saw pepperoni pizza slices so I asked for one to go. Once it was heated, the man behind the counter asked if I wanted to put any seasoning on it. I don't recall many pizzeria employees asking that unless they know you. I liked that. Now to the pizza. It was greasy but in a good way for pizza. The crust was firm enough to fold and hold the topping without bending. There was enough cheesy without being too much. The sauce was good too.
google avatar

Markus D L.

Yelp
Maybe I'm just used to real New York style or New Haven style pizza, but this just wasn't good. The ratio of cheese to sauce was off. Extra cheese, yumm, but the sauce was ummm... idk where it was? maybe they were running low. I only ate 1/2 the slice and threw the other half away. Such a waste of $4.75... Also, My brother had a Sicilian slice and said it reminded him of a cheese sandwich... and he threw his away as well * this place earned an extra star for manners! Their customer service was on point!

Yelp
Cheap, solid, fast slice of New York pizza. Everything we were looking for with nothing extraneous.
google avatar

Trevor J.

Yelp
Good, fast and helpful staff! And we're kinda pizza snobs. So good, even made the cut on our YouTube video at Lyfe Untethered!
google avatar

Jenny S.

Yelp
The pizza was nothing out of the ordinary of what you expect for NYC style pizza. Was very good and quick served as well. There was not many people in the store that night but a good flow of people coming in and out which was fine. Overall the flavor was good and was not bad at all. A bit more doughy and the cheese was pretty generous which was a good change of pace compared to the regular $1 slice pizzas. Would come back for more.
google avatar

Todd C.

Yelp
Great pizza by the slice with roli's and hero's. Thin and thick pies. Canned and bottled drinks Pepsi and Snapple. Rustic condiment tray and limited seating. Quick service. Plenty of toppings, good basic pizza.
google avatar

Peter T.

Yelp
There are several pizza spots on 14th, and I've tried them all. They're all terrible. I finally went to Village Pizza and I've never looked back. Their pepperoni pizza is the best slice in the neighborhood. It's delicious. The crew that works there is super nice too.

Noella M.

Yelp
Good pizza, great price. $14 for 2 tasty slices of pizza and two cans of coke...Bargain!
google avatar

D M.

Yelp
I mean it was more like a $1 slice ...it was a small slice..doughy and just overall meh. It was busy Ofcourse considering it's location. It's casual, and the decor has a cool old school vibe. I wouldn't come here again because there's too many other great options in NYC

Claudia M.

Yelp
This pizza is delicious!! I love a classic Nyc slice and it can be pretty spotty around the city. I stumbled upon Village Pizza today and was so happy to find them, since I just moved into the neighborhood. The guy making the pizza was also super nice! I will be back regularly!

Kyle K.

Yelp
Worker is extremely rude and we had a massive misunderstanding that when we tried to rectify he started yelling at us and no matter what we tried to do he just kept yelling at us. Pizza is very good though just had a bad experience with a worker.
google avatar

Richard P.

Yelp
Good pizza and relatively good value. Would definitely go back again next time I'm in NYC.
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
Used to be the best pizza place in the area. Not so anymore. Pizza is different from one time to the next. Today I called to order a meatball sub and the woman who answered said they didn't have meatball subs. I asked if the were out and she said no we don't make them. I asked again saying you have had them for the last 20 years. She finally asked someone but it was too late. This place has really gone in the toilet since the gentleman who ran it for many years stopped working there. Maybe hire someone who can read the menu board?
google avatar

Lucy M.

Yelp
I still don't think their sauce is very flavorful, and they use too much cheese on their plain slices for me. But the slice with pepperoni, bacon, and ham is bomb! The toppings are really fresh and they're generous with them. Stewart's root beer in glass bottles. Friendly service. They also are the only place I've seen with all the Italian spices mixed into one container - what a time saver! Oregano, garlic, red pepper flakes. They're also available individually if you don't want all that flavor, you'd be wrong, but it's still your choice.

Tom P.

Yelp
BIG FAN OF THE ORIGINAL OWNER. A perfect NYC slice. He moved to Hawaii, bless him. He earned it. New Management - still a good slice. Love the younger energy. However, does this slice still compete with Joes (or even better)? Joes is only a few blocks down the road! Only you can decide. Change the price. Never change the pizza.
google avatar

John W.

Yelp
This was our "go to" until COVID hit. Despite safety requirements they have allowed folks to parade in with masking which can be dangerous and is utterly annoying. Still, three stars for great pizza. Now we go to Joe's which is quite phenomenal and has complied to safety regulations.
google avatar

Anne W.

Yelp
Solid slice joint. Service can be a little curt, but they're here to make pizza, not friends. Some seating, but don't come expecting to sit as it does get tight. And definitely don't expect table service. I appreciate their chicken and broc slice but all pizza is appreciable. Cash only.
google avatar

Tammy K.

Yelp
This pizza was so good. They were super fast and hit the spot. When you are hungry and tired of walking in NYC, we came upon this in the nick of time. Lol. It was packed and looked delicious and the price was right. A legit NY slice of pizza. No complaints here at all!

Anne H.

Yelp
Mediocre on the night we visited. Maybe it's because it was nearly 10pm and the pizza had been sitting there a while - it was definitely ok and good for a quick bite, just nothing to write home about.
google avatar

Lydia W.

Yelp
I absolutely enjoyed my visit to little Italy and Village Pizza. I ordered a 10" Margherita pie because they do not do individual slice. The sauce to cheese to topping ratio was perfect and the pie was fresh and delicious. I will definitely visit again to try their different pie options. You cannot eat in because it just a small location but, there are plenty of places to eat outside and around the area. Overall, great pizza, awesome staff, and I loved it.

Richard S.

Yelp
Excellent NYC classic pizza. Slices @ $3.27, room to sit, and great friendly service. Enjoy!
google avatar

Paul M.

Yelp
This seems to be the closest pizza slice to the south end of the High Line Park. I got a fast reheated broccoli and chicken, which is my favorite NYC slice and it was really good. There's very little seating but the fat guys behind the counter are very nice.
google avatar

Barrett B.

Yelp
Decent. The pizza was straight forward. NYC style for sure. Our friend made the mistake and folded in half in the beginning. It's grease dripped down the back and front of her hand, in a classic New York style. We pestered the manager so he kinda got irritated with us but its food and when something goes wrong with our food we complain. Let me explain. We simply wanted pep and one cheese. He was busy so he kinda snapped back. Then we asked for two drinks, changed our mind and asked for three. But its all good. We sat at Jackson Park and ate the box of 6 pizzas and fed some pigeons and finches.would I recommend this place, yeah. Its good. Its a do again if you live here BUT I don't so i wont be back

Marci K.

Yelp
Their food is excellent. This is our go to for takeout. Their food is consistently tasty, their prices are reasonable and it's a family-run business that I like supporting.
google avatar

Lisa A.

Yelp
Always saving a slice for you. Foldable $2.50 cheese slices with ever so slightly sweet sauce. Its better than any of the other late night. slice places I've been to. I'm a fan!
google avatar

Chris H.

Yelp
This was the only place I went for a slice while on a recent week-long vacation in NYC, but boy oh boy was it a good choice. Village Pizza was my girlfriend's neighborhood pizza joint of choice when she lived in New York in the early 2000s, and I can see why. The place itself is about the size of two claustrophobic broom closets...I would order to go 10,000% of the time. We got there right around lunch hour and it was well-ordered chaos inside. Orders are called back and forth over the counter to 4 hard-working pros working the kitchen, and lots of Italian was being spoken too. As others have noted, it's cash-only and quite affordable. We each ordered plain cheese slices, sprinkled a bit of pepper flakes on them and then ate in the little park across the street. The slices were amazing--hot and juicy but not greasy (I used my napkin but I didn't need it to save my life or my clothes or my pride or anything like that). The sauce was super flavorful and I'd say just a tiny bit tart, and the cheese was the perfect amount, texture, and flavor...cheese like this is probably the highest hurdle between me and veganism. They serve cheese like this in the Dairy section of heaven. The crust was foldable at the point/middle and crispy/chewy at the edge. An outstanding first-time New York pizza experience.
google avatar

Marisa G.

Yelp
too expensive for one slice- sauce and cheese was fine, crust not special. i wouldnt seek it out again unless i was desperate for an overprices single slice of pizza
google avatar

Susam B.

Yelp
Always come to village pizza when I come to NY. Excellent and very affordable! It's a small walk in place. A couple tables. Great place for lunch on the go.

Samantha F.

Yelp
Most obnoxious Staff here in all the city. I walked in and asked if I could have some napkins as my child was in the car with a terrible nosebleed. He glared at me. I waited as he wiped a counter and got out some plates. I asked again he goes "i heard you." I said but you didn't get me the napkins. He says is your child bleeding to death? Should I call 911? Im helping my customers." There was one man in there. I walked out and went to the deli next store who gladly gave me a napkin. The patron at the pizza shop saw me outside and gave me his napkins! I wouldn't care if this place had great pizza - I wouldn't go there if the last place on earth.
google avatar

Mary S.

Yelp
Solid pizza spot! Easy to miss and limited seating inside. Didn't look like there was a minimum credit card fee. I had a classic slice of cheese and it was perfect. Not recommended for groups because very limited seating, but if you're just looking for a quick slice of food NY pizza this is a good spot.
google avatar

Roy C.

Yelp
Happened to be in the area and went in for a pair of slices. For NYC pizza it's good, but not great. The bread needed to be crispier. The sauce needs a bit of work as well. Salt, pepper and few other spices. The cheese was a bit too heavy. Overall, it needs more love. What they have going for themselves is location. I won't say it was a disappointing lunch, but definitely wouldn't say you need to get to Village Pizza.
google avatar

Scott D.

Yelp
Great NYC Pizza. Fast service!! Meat lovers pizza was excellent! Prices are good and it was enjoyable.
google avatar

Adrienne D.

Yelp
A lowkey small pizza joint in the village...The perfect option after a work event in the Meatpacking District. I ordered two (cheese) slices for $6, it's a small spot with a couple tables. If you're looking for a solid, no-fuss slice or two and in the area, this is a great option- a step above the other cheaper fast pizza places.
google avatar

Joel H.

Yelp
I always go here for a real slice right before work. In the cut so you can miss it if you aren't looking. Not like rockys at all. This pizza has a classic feel.
google avatar

Ro J.

Yelp
As I always say sometimes customer service it is everything. Thre PIZZA here is Amazing 5 starts always good!!! however the service could get better. I came few days ago for a pizza, they do not have a prices on the pizzas, so ofcourse I asked how much the slices, the gut asked me wich one, I was like all, he looked at me like (do you Really want me to go over all the price). He asked me to point on the ones I want to get, I was like it is depends on the price. Anyway Ended up asking only on a 3 slices. (I could of get one of each) but he was too tiered going over all the 7 selections he had. So the pizza are ready he asking me to pay, before I'm handing the money I asked how much, I told him I thought it is would be less, so ask him to rep it the prices, in which he did, BUT WITH HUGE ATTITUDE and then say ed something in Spanish to his coverker I think It was very disrespectful!!!
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
My fiance and I went here on a recommendation a few years ago - BEST CRUST I'VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE! Light, flaky, tasty, amazing!! Everything else was really good but that crust was incredible!!

Salas R.

Yelp
This place is the reason I got Yelp just to leave it a review. The pizza and the service was HORRIBLE. Me and my boyfriend ordered a slice and asked to add another slice the guy got bothered that he didn't even heat up the pizza correctly.

Rob L.

Yelp
Not sure what happened to this place but got 2 cheese slices last night and couldn't eat the 2nd on at all, gave it away to homeless guy. The flavor was awful, the dough was gross - not sure how to even describe it and the cheese didn't seem melted. Not sure I'll ever go back when there are so many good pizza places out there.
google avatar

Grace S.

Yelp
Randomly popped in here this evening and was glad that I did. The place is a no frills pizza shop with your basics - cheese, pepperoni pizzas with a few other varieties and, of course, a sicilian. Ordered a pepperoni slice and it was $3.75, not bad, and around the same price of most similar pizza spots. There's minimal seating inside, but let's be real, in classic NYC fashion, everyone's folding their slice and taking it for the road. Pizza was definitely bigger and cheesier than expected, but not as saucy as I would've liked. Delicious nonetheless. The pizza was chewier than your typical Joe's pizza, which my friend loved (he likes doughier than crispier). This pizza joint embodies the quintissential NYC pizza, and think its one of the better slices I've had in the city so far. Also, this is my friend's new fav pizza spot, which was a huge plus. Also, doesn't hurt that this spot has Julianne Moore's stamp of approval. Not bad at all.
