Village Yokocho

Nice low key Japanese spot that offers some Korean dishes as well. I liked the vibe I know it gets super busy on weekends. It’s fairly large and offers a pretty expansive menu. We enjoyed the squid legs and unagi rice dish most of all. I appreciated that they serve Orion which is a fantastic beer. Service was spotty once our food came out.

The environment here is pretty awesome. It is very Japanese with a teriyaki grill and bar taking up most of the restaurant space. It gets busy but the service is friendly and fast. There's a variety of foods, mostly grilled meats and vegetables on skewers but also sushi and sashimi dishes, Korean foods, tapas, and entrees. they serve beer and some wines, sake, but no whiskey. It is connected to a speak easy called Angel Share through a door in the restaurant. While the foods is overall pretty good, it's not amazing. Some dishes are very good but most are just kind of okay. the entire staff speaks Japanese here and so it's an interesting environment to pretend you're in a different country while hanging out with friends.

We ordered from the reccomendations and got a cold ramen and a cold bibisomen because it was a really hot day. Both were pretty bad. We got a set for the yakitori, and only the squail eggs were decent. the beef was tough and the chicken was overdone. Best thing all night was the pork belly. I'll give this place another try on their other selections since they offer over 50 things here. But based on what I had, it was really bad.

One of my first suggestions whenever friends come to town. Great izakaya experience and vibe with a friendly and accommodating staff. Food is delicious with a lot of variety and pairs great with their selection of beer and sake.

One awesome hidden gem in the east village. Down to earth Japanese izakaya style with a full menu as well. Just a fun and delicious place to be for any occasion. The price is a bargain given the central location. Izakaya pieces are grilled right in front of you. The staff, all of whom can speak Japanese fluently despite different backgrounds, are extremely friendly and quick on their feet. This place has the current rating of 3.5 stars on Yelp, so you can guess that they didn't want to do promotional business with Yelp and it punishes them. Anyway, the difference in the review of this restaurant in particular is another reason to move away from Yelp.

Great Japanese restaurant atmosphere! Some dishes were better than others. Pitcher of beer was refreshing. Lines are long but moves quickly!

For a Japanese bbq and small dishes it is not bad. Think of it as the Japanese bar food after drinks. Lots of small tapas like dishes and some favorites include the chicken skin skewers and takowasa cold dish. Beer and drinks a plenty and it fills quickly.

Overall it’s an uncrowded place to dine on a Friday night. The steamed egg in tea cup is pretty good! Pig foot tastes particularly good with the shrimp sauce. The bamboo is very tender and fresh.
