Where Frybaby’s Sunny Hatch Eats in Portland | Eater Portland

"Cited as a go-to pizza spot: described simply as “super solid.” He pairs that local praise with a personal confession about national chains: “My favorite pizza in the world is pan-crust from Domino’s. You can taste how engineered it is. But it’s engineered so beautifully.”" - Thom Hilton

Downtown’s old-school Italian standard where tuxedoed service meets tableside classics. Recognized with AAA Four Diamond status for 2024 and still going strong, it remains a celebratory favorite praised by Louisville media and visiting critics.

This was our first visit, we reserved a table for two and we sat at a high top in the bar. The service was excellent, (the timing of food was off a little), but our server compensated accordingly. We loved everything we ordered. The calamari was amazing as was the seafood pasta -both recommended by the bartender. The entire staff was professional & friendly. We will definitely be back.

I went on Saturday evening with my mom and my aunt for a celebratory birthday dinner. Everything from beginning to end was excellent. We were greeted warmly and taken right to our table. Throughout the meal we had top notch service, great recommendations from our server for my aunt who is gluten-free, our water were never less than half full, and the meal was paced well. Our server was attentive without hovering. Before our meal, we tried the espresso martinis and they were excellent. I started with a half Caesar which was really good and for dinner I had a filet which was excellent and cooked a perfect medium rare. And finished with a delicious Belgian white chocolate cheesecake. The chef even wrote Happy Birthday on it and the server lit a candle for me. It was an unexpected touch that put a big smile on my face. At the table next to us an older couple was celebrating a birthday. Their server was taking their picture for them, laughing with them and clearly making their night special too. Great experience all around, highly recommend.

Food was amazing, staff was very professional and very knowledgeable and friendly. I never felt like a burden or like I was asking to many questions. Beautiful restaurant with great menu options and hospitality the only negative thing was the lobster was slightly over cooked but the rest of the experience was so good I didn’t even care to complain and I had no issue with tipping generously and have every intention of returning in the future. Best experience in any restaurant in Louisville and they are absolutely worth the money. They are doing everything right and my drinks were stronger than I ever could imagine for $16 I ordered another and didn’t even care because I was confident in the staff at that point my server was an African American man around early 30’s and I regret not recalling his name. He deserves a raise for customer service alone. Keep up the great work I love it and hope they continue doing well for a very long time it’s well deserved. Thank you for reminding me that you can still have a great time at a great restaurant

Dinner on May 1st was likely the worst meal I have ever had in my life. The price fixe menu was $200 person and included tortellini with what I think was chipped beef on it, salad that was so warm that the leaves were limp and some sort of pale, greasy chicken. I complained to my waiter after every course and his response was “okay”. I literally feel like Vincenzo reached into my purse, stole $500 and tossed me some old freezer food. Absolutely without a question disgusting.

What a gem of a restaurant. Made me feel like I was in Chicago or New York. Wonderful family atmosphere. Food all prepared table side. Staff are abundant and all smiles. Met some really cool people. Veal chop was outstanding!

The restaurant was serving a price fixed menu due to Kentucky Derby week. This was without any doubt one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. The quality of the food in no way reflected the price of $162 per person. My salmon appetizer came to the table room temp, covered in an oily mess of greenery. When the waitor took it say the caesar salad was quickly brought out. I am not sure if it was premade earlier in the day or premade when my appetizer was ordered. But it took was room temperature and the croutons were soft like pieces of bread, not crunchy like a crouton. For an entree I had the veal saltimbocca. Which was floating in a pool of its own oil or grease. The only thing edible was the dessert. Which I had tiramisu. It felt like the were busier then they’re use to. And using the price fixed menu to expedite table turn over. To maximize their revenue from those visiting for the races. The lesson is price does not dictate quality, quality dictates price. And referring to the brown puddle my veal was floating in as a “light white wine sauce” is not quality, pic included.

You are paying for the building and location, more so than the dining experience. The staff were all very pleasant and attentive. Their spiffy attire and table side service was my favorite part of the experience. However, our meal from top to bottom was lackluster. The complimentary bread and rose shaped butter was our favorite meal item. The Caesar salad was sweet and wet, but didn’t have the zing I come to expect with a good Caesar dressing. The fettuccini would have pleased a young picky eater. I had hoped for elegant simplicity, but it landed on boring. The beef tournedos resembled a frozen tv dinner in both appearance and flavor. We shared tiramisu for dessert. It was surprisingly dense and yet was easily dismantled when cutting through with a fork. We desired more coffee and chocolate notes. It tasted primarily like white cake with cream cheese frosting. The single berry did what it could to brighten the flavors. Over all, the meal felt akin to what you may experience at a nice wedding. Nothing repulsive, just won’t knock your socks off. I cannot comment on the cocktails as I didn’t have one. I had a glass of the house Pinot Grigio and it was adequate. Service flow was nice. Plenty of water refills. The waitress asked about after dinner plans to be sure we were out in time. The building read event space/business casual. Nice proximity to Kentucky Center for a show. Glad to have tried this Louisville staple, but wouldn’t return on own dime.

WE HAD AN EARLY Anniversary dinner with great company. The ambiance was very nice, business casual. Nice paintings and art work throughout the dining area. Servers were all in black tie/bow tie with jackets and slacks. The seating was close so privacy between tables was not really attainable. The server recommended choices for drinks accompanying meals. The appetizers and some entrees were finished at table side by the serves which was a really nice treat. Portions were also decent. Food tasted very good. Desserts were also very good. The cheesecake was a bit bland the sauce helped to add flavor. Coffee was aromatic and tasty. All in all very good.

Yelp
As an international traveling food critic and unbeknownst to the staff, the following is what I experienced: + Very comfortable and elegant atmosphere. + Quality of food was exceptional high with nothing but the finest of meat, seafood, and vegetables. + Extensive bourbon & wine bar. + Veal was superb! + Server Mark E. (91) was outstanding throughout. If you are in the area and don't take the time to dine here, you missed out on a fine experience.

Yelp
I had not been here in a few years and had a great experience last night. I was slightly concerned considering I read some mixed reviews in recent times on here, but it seemed like the same great place to me. Yes, the menu prices are higher than most places. But I'm not sure why this is a complaint for many when the menu is clearly posted online, so you should know going in. This has always been true here. Not sure why so many people on here are fussing so much about it, nothing new. Anyway, it seriously was a great experience. Myself and my Fiance were celebrating some recently life events and we decided this was the spot. I had some linguine with meatballs and it was so good. Every single bite from first to last was piping hot. Very savory and delicious. We had a house Cesar salad and it was good. The desert tiramisu cake was delicious. One of my favorite deserts to have in town. The service and experience is one of the best you can get in Louisville. Few places locally are as attentive to detail and your needs as this place. You never have to ask for refills they just do it for you without asking. You really feel prioritized.

Yelp
We had a fantastic experience at Vincenzo's! Our group of 12 was handled seamlessly by the staff -- they were incredibly kind, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. The space was clean, nicely set up, and quiet, which made it perfect for our team gathering. I had the ravioli mascarpone, and it was absolutely delicious -- rich in flavor and just the right portion. Great service from start to finish. We'll definitely be back! * P.S make sure to try their Tiramisu. One of the best I've ever had!

Yelp
I have been a patron of Vincenzo's for more years than I can remember. It is exactly the same every single time! Amazing service, like no other, topped by wonderful, perfectly cooked food! Last night we came to celebrate my daughters birthday and we were all 100% happy with the whole experience! The filet would melt in your mouth and was perfectly cooked and hot when delivered! My sister had the salmon and loved it.You just cannot go wrong eating here and if you had anything you were not happy with(I never have) I have no doubt they would make it right. You are really missing out on a lovely dining experience if you don't give them a try!

Yelp
A Louisville institution for many years...maybe a hair below the pre-eminent status it once held, as I see reflected in some reviews, but still a splendid option for a classic night out (or a somewhat hidden gem of a spot for a business lunch). Vincenzo's is Italian fine dining, pure and simple. Excellent pastas, veal, chicken, all the classic dishes. Tortellini Buddeke is a dish that one can never go wrong with. The Crepes Agostino are magical. And while I don't know if there's a particular prompt to cause it, they do tableside prep at times that provides a delightful mini-show with the meal. Quality wine list, cocktails are good but not their best offering (they do have a good overall alcohol selection). Elegant space, and the service is what sets this place apart. The staff is welcoming, efficient, a brilliantly balanced in their attentiveness. And Vincenzo still makes the rounds as he has for as long as I can remember (probably since they opened), which is always a welcome touch.

Yelp
I've worked downtown for more than two years, but had never experienced the iconic Vicenzo's before. It's right on the corner of 5th and Market, which is experiencing a lot of development right now. It's located by a number of offices and Whiskey Row, so you'll run into a healthy mix of tourists and office workers. We went for a Wednesday at lunch. I'm from New Orleans originally, where business lunches are extremely popular and are much more approachable price-wise than dinners. Vincenzo's with its throwback atmosphere and attentive servers certainly made it feel like I was back in NOLA. The bread came out right away, and drink orders were taken quickly. People who knew I was going there all recommended the chicken Alfredo, so that's what I ordered. It was pretty good! And the portion was huge. I wish I could share more food insight, but that's what everyone at my table ordered. I'd be curious to come back here for a dinner date or even another lunch. The room we were in was fairly empty because most guests were in a different room for the monthly Louisville Forum. I'm looking forward to a return.

Yelp
We've been here for my birthday and for a special date night and have been pleasantly surprised both times! What an elevated experience. We felt so special. The fettuccine Alfredo was incredible and they warm the dish right in front of you for the freshest meal. Both servers we've had were helpful, kind, and fun!

Yelp
We went here for a business lunch. All the staff were very friendly and professional. Our waitress was great, she was personable and knowledgeable. I had the Caesar salad with their signature dressing. Note: I do not eat anchovies, but the dressing was great, I could not taste them. For the entree I ordered Crepe Agostino (tender veal wrapped in a crepe, with a bechamel sauce and marinara). It was absolutely delicious. It was served with steamed vegetables and seasoned small potatoes. Everything was flavorful and cooked to perfection. Mr. Vincenzo stopped by to wish us a Merry Christmas at the end of the meal. It was a great experience.

Yelp
As we walked in the entire place smelled like Butane and stale carpet. As a pretty empty room we were sat at a tiny table by the door with so much on the table we couldn't even sit the menu down. The menu was large but paper and dirty. The dining room had multiple light fixtures out and they visibly had dust on them. Both drinks were over priced and super sweet like no alcohol was added. Waitresses clearly were over whelmed. Caesar salad was split and overwhelming with dressing and no Parmesan cheese pepper at the table tasted old. Dinner brought out in skillets and sat on a tray next to us while we waited for it to be reheated with butane heaters (weird and awful smelling) they were turning them off with the pepper grinder. Fettuccine Alfredo was WAY overcooked and noodles were soggy!!! Chicken tasted like it was out of a packaged bag! Parmesan cheese was served out of a bowl with a spoon for this to be authentic Italian it sure doesn't seem as such. Complimentary bread with plain butter was best Husbands asparagus and chicken dish was ok he said chicken was just ok asparagus was cooked good caused bathroom issues that kept him up. I have the worst ingestion of my life. Will NOT be returning. I would rather eat at Stony River or Repeal

Yelp
One of the best dining experiences in Louisville- great Northern Italian Food. Service was perfect along with a great atmosphere. Started off with table side appetizer Tortellini Buddeke Crepe Agostino- perfect order made right in front of you. Lamb Chops was cooked to perfection and Lobster Spaghetti is one of the best meals in the country! Love Vincenzo's - Highly recommended

Yelp
The best thing about this place was the service. The poor servers though. They dressed in tuxedos and there was no air conditioning (or very very weak). And they were all sweating. Beads of sweat on their faces. The wine was wonderful if overpriced. The food was ok. Nothing amazing. It feels like a place that has passed its prime and is just running on an older reputation from a better day. Nothing about this place feels modern or comfortable. But the people were so nice. And like I said, the wine was good.

Yelp
Went to Vincenzo's on New Years Eve and had a spectacular time! The food was some of the best I've ever had even in Italy and the service was fabulous. Professional wait staff. You can clearly tell. Also the restaurant itself was modern design with a warmth to it. I had a wonderful time, all staff was fabulous and the prices were less expensive then I thought. Really can't say enough about Vincenzo's except we'll be going back and soon.

Yelp
Was looking for a sit down place for lunch and came across Vincenzo's. You walk in and are greeted with friendly staff. Walking further in you see peaceful table settings that are accentuated with big, bright windows. For lunch I had salmon that was nothing spectacular. The service however was top tier. My server was beyond accommodating with the biggest heart. I'd come back just for him.

Yelp
I've been here before and had great service and good food. I went there again this past Friday and was disappointed. When we were seated the tablecloth was stained and a piece of fruit was left on the table. When we brought the concern to our waiter he seemed unbothered and didn't even remove it. Food was good.
google avatar

Ishara F.

Yelp
The service was nice. Food was very tasty. I love the meatballs and the ravioli. I will say the valet parking was pretty strange. He got our keys and parked a few spaces down and when we finished eating we were given the keys to walk back to the car.

Yelp
We made a reservation for a large group on NYE. I love to look at the menus ahead of time and had already decided on calamari for a starter and Caesar salad. We were presented with a limited menu. Not sure if it was due to our party size or the holiday. Regardless, my meal wasn't memorable nor worth recommending. Unfortunately, everyone in our party felt the same. Drinks were good, space was lovely.

Yelp
They truly go above and beyond to make your experience something unique and elegant. The staff was kind, attentive, and professional. We came here for my birthday on a Thursday night around 5:30PM. We had made a reservation so we got seated right away in the perfect intimate corner spot of the dining room. There was quiet elegant music playing (which I love- really set the mood for a good dinner!) Dining room was spacious. There were a few couples also dining in the dining room the same time as us, but they sat us all far away in the room, which I appreciated so we could each have our own "private-like" dinner experience. Butter on the table was in the shape of roses. Bread was good. We got two Caesar salads which were large and out of this world! Now let me talk about the fettuccini Alfredo.... IT WAS THE BEST I HAVE EVER HAD! Which is a lot coming from an Italian girl who has eaten a lot of pasta in her life. Truly genuine and delicious. They even finish cooking the pasta on a little server right in front of your table on open flames which means HOT pasta on your place. It was exquisite. At the end they brought me out a birthday dessert with candle. So special of them to go above and beyond. Truly grateful. Come here for any special occasion. Date night. Birthdays. family gatherings.

Yelp
Always a great meal at Vincenzo's! Went here for lunch and it's the same great quality food and service for a very affordable price.

Clay M.

Yelp
We've been sitting here for an hour and a half and our entrees are nowhere in sight. They aren't even that busy. I had a Caesar salad that was $18 for wet croutons and a bag of lettuce. The bread they served was hard and lukewarm. On the plus side I've been able to enjoy two $30 cocktails while we wait. Updated: the entrees finally came and it was actually very good. Not worth the wait but quite good. When the bill came, it was not itemized, so we did not know whether they had already applied gratuity. $300 plus and they put us in the awkward position of having to ask.
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
The best service! I had lunch here with a group of six people. The linguine meatballs and fettuccine alfredo were both delicious. Portions are generous and the lunch prices are very reasonable for the quality. But the star of the show was our server, Ruben! He has the most positive energy and really made the lunch special! Thank you!

Yelp
Ten years between visits, it's not nearly as good as I remembered. The service is great, super attentive with table side preparations. There is literally a team of waiters catering to your every need. We went early evening, there were 2 other tables and the restaurant didn't impress in the light of day. Again not as elegant as I remembered, it looked aged and a bit weathered. There are small windows on one wall giving the feel of being in a basement. They had some unique signature cocktails or so I thought but to be honest giving a standard Manhattan or Old Fashioned a cutesy name doesn't necessarily improve it. Vincenzo's is pricey for Italian, making it a poor value given the taste of their food and is the reason for the 3 star review. We started with the Cesar salad, which I recall was prepared table side. This time it wasn't, maybe because it takes too much time so they've dispensed with this practice. Nothing special and certainly not worth the $16 price. We had some risotto with a medley of fish and shrimp, crazy salty. For entrees we selected linguine and meatballs (my wife's taste are simple), the noodles tasted homemade and they along with sauce were good but the meatballs were rubbery, so rubbery we could probably use to play pickle ball, which we did... just kidding, but they were rubbery. I got the lamb chops covered with rosemary and bourbon demi-glacé. Umm the sauce was a little off and there was some gaminess that came through, perfectly cooked though. So there you go, sans the dessert, pretty expensive not so great tasting Italian. The service is awesome though, well... they serve like 6 lamb chops, I only ate 3, they boxed up the remaining 3 and placed the 3 bones of the chops I ate in there too, so there's that....

Yelp
I came to visit family and this restaurant is high end classy casual. The waiters are dressed in formal attire and the atmosphere is very nice. I loved the smoked salmon appetizer with an arugula salad that had a wonderful balsamic reduction dressing. My entree was so flavorful!!! I had the Ravioli Con Pollo Spinach Funghetti Mascarpone. The service was great if I ever cone back this will be a definite dinner spot. I do recommend that you dress up a bit. There is some street parking and a parking garage close by.
google avatar

Yelp
Food was really good. It's what you would expect of an Italian eatery. I highly enjoyed my ravioli it was full of flavor! I will be back when I revisit the area!

Yelp
This place is superb! The food was absolutely delicious, from our Tortellini appetizer to our salmon and chicken. We will be back for sure! Also, the dessert was magnificent, which unfortunately was the only picture I took.

Yelp
We had a lovely Valentine's dinner at Vincenzo's! They have a dress code for the dining room, a coat check with numbered tickets, and the servers wear tuxedos. If you are looking for a "fancy Italian dinner" experience, this is the place. We were serenaded by live piano music throughout the evening. The decor was modern but reminiscent of Italy - think Galileo / maps instead of village family life art. As to their menu, Vincenzo's is known for outstanding pasta, so we had the seafood spaghetti and ravioli with mascarpone. It did not disappoint. The shrimp & lobster in my pasta were a flavor explosion - my compliments to the chef! ⁣

Yelp
My son graduated high school and he wanted to go to Vincenzo's because of the mention in the Jack Harlow song What's Poppin. He made a nice choice and got guess what for dinner, if you guessed fettuccine you are correct. Everyone enjoyed their dinner and the appetizer. We got a shareable appetizer that consisted of a beef/veal crepe and cheese tortellini. I had the Veal La Madeira which comes with vegetables and a potato which were all very good. They even went above and beyond and brought complimentary desserts for my graduated son, my daughter who just had a birthday and her best friend whose birthday was at the beginning of May. Vincenzo's impressed and we will be back as a result.

Yelp
Food was good nothing really to write home about hence the 2 rating . Presentation to the table was nice in the pots to warm plates. Service was terrible. Waited 1.5 hours and all tables around us were getting served in 15 min-20 min , we inquired and Daniele informed us it was the rigatoni. Now i am a chef and know it takes 10-12 min for rigatoni. We asked for the manager, he came over when the food was being served to the table to apologize and tell us the pastry chef was preparing something very special apologized for the delay. Well. The masterpiece from the pastry chef was a serving of the white choc mousse tart cut into 3 serving. Shameful and no communication about the delay. Terrible Service. I have never had such horrible service Ambiance was ok however loud and large group could be heard all over the dining room floor from a private area. Will not be going back to this establishment.

Joe B.

Yelp
Excellent! Had Gouda stuffed veal and it was some of the best ever. They even reheat the dish at your table just to ensure it is piping hot. Very tender. Had a good salad. Great hot fresh bread. Delicious white chocolate dessert. Excellent service. Absolutely noting but positive comments to make. I just wish I didn't live 200 miles away or I'd be here much more often. Very good value for the money.

Yelp
Had a wonderful holiday dinner with a large group of friends at Vincenzo's. I've previously been to Vincenzo's for corporate events, but this was my first traditional dining experience. I wasn't blown away - the staff is very attentive, but the food was not what I expected for this dining experience. The best part of the meal was the caprese salad and artichoke appetizer. Both were fresh and flavorful. I ordered the veal medallions with melons and the veal was rubbery and did not have a great flavor. A vegetarian at our table ordered a pasta dish that did not have pancetta in the description. Some other pasta dishes at our table did not stand out. Another diner at my table raved over the salmon and was very happy with it. The desserts were amazing - we had the almond joy pie and white chocolate mousse, and both were fantastic!

Jacqueline B.

Yelp
Went here for Valentine's Day. They were very busy (of course) and did seat some people with a 9:00 reservation before us (we had an 8:30 reservation) but it was a holiday and they seemed so busy that they didn't really know what they were doing. We didn't have to wait too terribly long despite all the people and food and drinks came out in great timing. Expresso martini is amazing and the Alfredo my bf got was pretty good! I got a pasta dish with meatballs and it was good as well.

Maegen C.

Yelp
Valentine's Evening. I always go into Valentine's reservations expecting very little. It's a busy time and I try to give grace. This was pathetic. First off we were seated in a side room with 4 small tables. It was dark, felt dingy and seemed like they added it to be able to seat more people. I should have spoke up and said this is not acceptable but I didn't. My mistake. We were seated. The waiter never came. I thought hmm well it's valentines. 15-20 solid mins passed. Some bread was thrown onto our table during this time but nobody said a word to us. The bread was hard and not good. I am not critical and this was bad. Still No waiter. My husband ended up going to the bar to get us a drink. The drinks were all terrible. 1 bartender. When she was busy, the hostesses were making the drinks. So, in a fine dining restaurant you have young girl hostesses looking through a book trying to figure out what goes in drinks. They served me a lemon drop martini in a bourbon glass with zero alcohol. Straight lemon water. I thought well I'll try to drink. I finally told my husband to try it. $15 lemonade. He took it back. They remade. The next drink came out and I couldn't drink it. They put bitters or something strange into it? My son ordered a Shirley temple. They ran out of sprite so they made it with club soda instead? Why wouldn't you say, we are out of sprite??? Our waiter finally shows up. I give the guy credit, he is obviously exhausted, sweating profusely and tired. It was sad. We ordered an appetizer. It was really good!! The star of the entire show. A heart shaped ravioli with seafood. I was thinking well, maybe things will go up from here. No. That didn't happen. We suffered through dinner. Nothing was great...even good...especially for the prices. Lobster ravioli was not edible, it was so tough. I gave dessert a chance. I always remember their almond joy dessert. It still tasted good. This used to be a stellar restaurant in Louisville. We celebrated our engagement here back in 2008. We spent many anniversaries here but it has gone down. If it is here in a year or so, I will be shocked. The bill came and we honestly felt robbed by the food given and the service. Olive Garden would have blown them out of the water. I don't blame the poor waiter. He was over worked. Management here is terrible. I would assume the good wait staff recognizes the decline of the restaurant so they are going other places. I hate to give bad reviews but I also hate throwing away my hard earned money. This really wasn't 1 star. It was 0.

Andrea H.

Yelp
Celebrated our first wedding anniversary here. Excellent service, amazing food quality and great atmosphere. Love that the side items were prepared right in front of us. The service was also unparalleled. Since it was our first time in the restaurant, we felt a bit overwhelmed with the menu. Everything seemed great! Our server went above and beyond as he gave us recommendations on what to order and also his favorite salad. We ended up ordering the tomato salad (I forgot what it's called but it's delicious!), their special for app, Vitello Saltimbocca for my husband, and Branzino for my entree. I loved everything that I ordered. Everything tasted authentic and fresh. The vegetables were also seasoned well and cooked just right. It complemented the sea bass that I ordered. Overall, the whole dish tasted light yet very satisfying. For the finale, we were surprised with an anniversary dessert plate which really touched our hearts. It was the perfect ending to our Italian dinner experience. We promised ourselves that we will go back!

Yelp
Vincenzo's hosted a recent business event I attended, so note that this review is specifically related to a larger party, private room and fixed menu offering. The overall experience was above average: lovely decor, gracious staff, spacious private room, and impeccably timed delivery of courses, table-bussing, and drink-refilling. In regards to the execution of a private function, there were some hits and some slightly off target aspects. This was the first group event I've attended where the menu was entirely fixed, without several options from which to choose. There was one salad (Caesar), one entree (pairing of breaded chicken and salmon), and one dessert (white chocolate mousse torte). This was a problem for me, as I try to eat as plant based as possible, and each course had an element of dairy, eggs, or meat. I inquired whether vegan offerings were available, and initially felt chastised because I had not requested this when I RSVP'd (not an option). Eventually, however, they were accommodating and provided a salad of greens and tomatoes with balsamic vinegar, an entree of breaded eggplant with veggies, and lemon sorbet with berries for dessert. The salad and sorbet were good, but nothing special. The berries were huge and fresh, and the eggplant was spectacular. The veggies were disappointing - unseasoned and with a suspiciously recently unfrozen texture. For a business event it was fine. I don't expect perfection with a large group event, however when I am considering options for dining on my own I do take prior experiences into consideration. Based on this experience alone, I don't think Vincenzo's goes above and beyond, and would likely chose a different venue for my next Italian adventure.

Yelp
The historic building, clean and elegant colors, white tablecloths, and black tuxedos. Vincenzos has the look to set itself apart from so many other restaurants downtown. The appearance is impressive without being intimidating. The menu is straightforward, offering a decent number of options which focus on breadth rather than depth of any particular food type (its not all pasta or anything like that). We ordered a couple of appetizers, entrees and drinks which all delivered. The entrees were fun, but not amazing. Some of the food is prepared tableside. Your sides are prepared in pans, heated by the flames on a rolling cart for the freshest possible taste. Service was excellent! Attentive enough to keep my drink topped off without being bothersome. I really enjoyed the experience!

Yelp
This place is a true gem! We went for our Anniversary and had a wonderful time. Caprese salad, artichoke salad, seafood spaghetti and veal. All finished by this dessert that we destroyed before I could grab a good photo.

Yelp
WE HAD AN EARLY Anniversary dinner with great company. The ambiance was very nice, business casual. Nice paintings and art work throughout the dining area. Servers were all in black tie/bow tie with jackets and slacks. The seating was close so privacy between tables was not really attainable. The server recommended choices for drinks accompanying meals. The appetizers and some entrees were finished at table side by the serves which was a really nice treat. Portions were also decent. Food tasted very good. Desserts were also very good. The cheesecake was a bit bland the sauce helped to add flavor.

Yelp
Vincenzos never disappoints! It had been a while since eating here so we were really looking forward to it. Service was great and at the speed necessary to slow down and enjoy our experience. Cocktails came first. An Old fashioned for him, a lemon martini for me. Then a beautiful antipasta dish if shell pasta, some seafood, and red sauce reduction. To die for! We split that along with splitting a Caesar salad. I would say the Caesar was "fine", but nothing to write home about. Store bought croutons etc. this is an area they could improve. Dinner for me was a pork dish wrapped around a stuffing of apples and vegetables covered in a red sauce. My husband had a veal stuffed with Gouda spinach and some other yummy things. As we were celebrating our 22nd anniversary, we were treated to a dessert of two samples. Their take on tiramisu was phenomenal! Really loved it. And the other dessert was a cheesecake with Oreo crust and raspberry coulis. A bottle of wine with dinner finished us off, fat and happy.

Yelp
Last night my colleague and I took clients out for dinner at 6:45pm. It was absolutely the worst dinner, we have had to pay for in a long time. The appetizer was supposed to be a pesto with cheese ravioli - it was really oil saturated cheese raviolis with chicken thrown together ( beyond stomach turning ) . My colleague ordered the Chicken and asparagus. She received a platter of mushed sauce over a chicken like meet and no asparagus. One client ordered bone chop ( no bone and cold ) client #2 ordered spaghetti and meatballs - the platter was beyond horrible. It wasn't spaghetti and the meatballs were tasteless cold and hard . Actually have had better at Olive Garden . I ordered the fillet medium rare with Gorgonzola and received an almost raw cold fillet in a gravy brown sauce . The salads were all saturated in dressing. Our waitress disappeared after the first drink order and only returned to hand us the astronomical bill considering the horrific meals we were served . I was beyond embarrassed and disappointed. Words can not describe what a terrible experience this was all around . It's sad because years ago on my first visit to Kentucky for work Vincenzo's was definitely different . Sad to have chosen them and also to experience their rapid decline in food and service.

Yelp
My husband and I visited to celebrate our anniversary on Saturday. He had called to make reservations the day before but when we arrived, they did not have our reservation listed, but luckily they had a table for us. Menu selections and service were great. Food was delicious. My biggest disappointment was the ambience. On the positive, the dining area is elegant with white tablecloths and servers are all dressed in black tie. This is our 3rd time dining here, the first time being the night my husband had proposed to me In 2012. We have always had nice experience before. So naturally, we wanted to revisit for a quiet, romantic atmosphere, however we found it to be quite loud. Had a hard time hearing our server. There were fussy young children and babies in our dining area. I am not sure why one would take children, especially young children to a fine dining restaurant, but we were not expecting that when we selected Vincenzo's for our occasion. I was also disappointed in the very casual attire of many of the patrons, which may or may not be something that Vincenzo's can control, although they do have listed on their website a "suggested" dress code of: "casually elegant attire is encouraged" but I observed people in shorts, t-shirts, ball caps, excercise leggings and tennis shoes and jeans with holes. I know some restaurants adhere to stricter dress codes and if Vincenzo's describes itself as "fine dining restaurant" it would be nice if they would adhere to a fine dining dress code or at least business casual dress code (no jeans, shorts, exercise leggings). It's a higher price restaurant so when you pay for special occasion and look around and see people dressed as if they are at any more casual family style Italian restaurant, it just takes away for me, from the full experience of making it feel special.

Yelp
Beautifully decorated, great service, authentic Italian food. Cannot go wrong! Highly recommend if you are downtown.

Yelp
Vincenzo's was extremely disappointing. I'd describe it as 5 star pricing, 4 star ambiance, 2 star food, and 1 star service. If you judged by the restaurant's appearance and prices (and the sheer number of staff), you'd expect an amazing experience. Yet the menu is extremely limited, the taste of the food is subpar (honestly no better than chain Italian restaurants), and we had servers who just were inattentive. We arrived very early -- 5 pm on Saturday, yet it took more than an hour to get our main dishes. The appearance of the food was nice, but the actual taste was meh.

Yelp
Old school vibe, white starched tablecloths, Eugene the waiter was the best. Food was excellent and not overpriced. Didn't go to bar as it was lunch time- but wanted to!!

Yelp
The food here is actually spectacular. I ordered the ravioli at the recommendation of my server. I LOVED it! Also, the staff at this restaurant is so great. They were very kind and even brought me a sponge cake for my birthday. It was delicious and not too sweet. The dining room is beautiful and there definitely is a nice ambiance. Dress nice!

Yelp
When I think about going to a fancy place to eat, Vincenzo's usually isn't the first place I think of. There was a Groupon and my girlfriend loves deals so off to Vincenzo's we went. This place has been around since 1986 so it can't be bad, right? The good news is that it's not bad but it's also not something to rave about. Their website states business casual dress in which we went in business casual dress. It was apparent when walking to our reserved table that some of the patrons had the holier-than-thou attitude... as I noticed some quick head/neck jerk looks our way. Since this is in the middle of downtown, I assume that's par for the course. There were a few tables of men in suits but the majority of the restaurant was filled with comfortable people in business casual attire just enjoying a meal. I knew it was "fancy" but I didn't realize it was a white tablecloth place. Complete with a table captain... which from my experience didn't do anything but watch over the servers at each table while they were cooking your food. As soon as I was told that we had a table captain, I honestly wasn't sure how to act. It seems super weird in general and especially weird for Louisville. The food was good but it didn't take long to notice that this place was all about the presentation. I'll cover the food in a minute. I do think you're going here for the service. It's hectic and you see servers and food runners everywhere. We were greeted by what I assume to be the owner or a manager when we were seated. He told us to enjoy the meal so that was nice. They prepare the food before it comes to the table and then set up this stovetop area in front of your table to finish off what you order. It's part of that presentation that makes it unique. I could see this being perfect for the steak lovers out there. Our Food: App - Smoked Salmon Con Capperi E Cipolline - Slices of smoked salmon garnished with capers, shallots, extra virgin olive oil, and lemon - This was a good appetizer. I wanted seafood but I didn't want a full entree of seafood so this worked. While it was good, I'm not sure if I would order it again. The smoke overshadowed the rest of the taste. Salad - We split the Agostino salad. You get a decent amount of salad for the price. I'm usually not a balsamic vinegar lover but it was delicious in this case. Girlfriend's meal - Linguini Con Gamberetti - linguini with shrimp and zucchini. It looked and smelled good but 30 dollars for a plate of pasta is always a hard sell for me. Even 10 dollars for a plate of pasta is a hard sell. It's so much cheaper to make your favorite pasta dish at home. My meal - I wanted to try a few things but eventually went with the Maiale Infarcito - Berkshire pork tenderloin stuffed with walnuts, spinach, carrots, apple, and Brie cheese. Served in an Evan Williams Single Barrel reduction. It was good but again... I doubt I'd order it again. We also decided on dessert this time around. They have a cart they bring around. Since we were full of food we went with the cannolis. Three small and simple cannolis; They can't be that pricey, right? 12 bucks for three and they didn't even taste that great. They were easily the worst part of the meal. Something else to note would be the service after the meal/dessert. People were making sure we were taken care of during the meal. As the meal closed, it was this weird atmosphere like we were being avoided but also pushed out so that they could flip the table for the next people... I'm not one to stick around after a meal. We had to end up flagging them down/asking for the check. Overall, I think you'd be safe to go here once if only for the show but honestly, there are much better white tablecloth restaurants in town. I'd much rather have Buck's, 610, or Butchertown Grocery.

Yelp
I came in here for lunch because I've been really wanting some authentic Italian quisine. The ambience is wonderful and this place is a perfect establishment to take a date. The lighting was slightly dim, but not dark. I ordered the smoked salmon which consists of Scottish smoked salmon with capers, shallots, olive oil and lemon. The food came out quite expeditiously, but that's not surprising because fish cooks extremely fast. When I bit in to it, I noticed the salmon had a nice sear on the outside, but was juicy, and flaky on the inside. The olive oil is always a nice choice in my book. I love olive oil probably more than I should. The fish wasn't overly greasy or soaked in the oil but it was just the right amount. The capers added just the right amount of saltiness without the fish absorbing salt like they would if it were cooked in a pan and over salted. My only complaint is the parking situation. I will typically avoid most places that are known for having precarious parking, but that did not impact my dining experience, just the lethargy after eating a heavy meal then having to trek back to my vehicle made me think that this may be a place to go to, on a less frequent basis.

Yelp
Such an amazing experience. I never normally eat alone but this gave me the confidence and happiness from doing it. Fettuccine was incredible. Chicken was cooked perfectly and the sauce was so unique but classic. This Caesar salad was maybe the most amazing one I've ever had in my life. I'm not sure what they do with the dressing. It was in a league of its own. Would go back everytime I'm in Louisville.

Yelp
There with friends. First time for all of us. Didn't start smoothly as we had a 7:00 pm reservation and weren't seated until 7:30. However, Vincenzo himself took charge and actually set the table himself! Service was really good. A real team effort. My wife and I split a Caesar salad. It was very good and 1/2 was plenty. My wife ordered the ravioli with chicken and she says it was delicious. I got the fettuccine con pollo. Also very good. Our friends ordered pasta and red sauce w/o meat (he is vegan and there are no vegan entrees on the menu). They were very accommodating and allowed him to essentially special order his meal. He must have like it since he ate every bite. Our other friend had veal, and loved it! Ambiance was too loud for my taste, but some of that was due to another table of other friends having a great time. Interestingly the semi-prepared meal is further prepared tableside. I definitely recommend Vincenzo's if you are in Louisville.
