In HBO’s ‘Succession,’ Food Exists Only to Create More Misery | Eater

"A bottle from the pair’s own wine property is opened in a hotel suite and inspected more for status than terroir: initially impressive because it’s biodynamic, the wine loses its glamour once a screw-cap is revealed and the tasting notes — “earthy” and “agricultural” — lead the couple to conclude the bottle simply isn’t very good. The episode uses the experience to show that ownership of luxury things doesn’t guarantee enjoyment and that for Tom these indulgences are among the few sources of genuine pleasure." - Amy McCarthy

This was a nice experience and great wine! The lady working was extremely friendly during our wine tasting. She even gave our four year old a little grape juice tasting so he could have some fun as well. We had a great time and enjoyed the wines. We may have purchased a bottle.. or four. 😀

Google
This was the CUTEST little wine tasting shop! Plenty of jewelry and art from local artists, and the wine was phenomenal. We got 6 bottles to go! Rachel was the sweetest and made the experience all the better. Juice to try if you’re pregnant as well!

Google
I got a wine slushee to go (peach something) and it was good! I also bought some local jam, and it is a little sweeter than we prefer, but still really good. The place was quite busy, but the person working was calm and relaxed. Be prepared to wait a bit for your turn to check out, especially if there are people doing wine tastings. It was just a few minutes wait, so it wasn’t too long.

Google
It's a cute, modest little shop with some cool local art things and some good wine to try. We especially liked their sangria and peach wine! Come in and sample a few things, and I'm sure you'll be walking out with a bottle (or a frozen sangria slushie for those hot days!)

Google
Excellent wine if you like them sweeter as we do. The Girls of Summer , the Peach, and Corolla light are our favorite. Friendly staff and cute shop. It is small inside though so get there early! We even ordered more wine online. Definitely worth a visit each year!

Google
Place is nice. The gentleman working was wonderful. He managed several people at a time. I have been looking for a particular cranberry wine for over 2 years and they had it in stock!!! I will make the trip there every year we are in OBX just for this wine. I appreciate great customer service. Keep up the great work.

Google
Very good customer service with lots of local artwork for sale. The wine was wonderful. We ended up buying 3 bottles! It is just a tasting so, there isn't an actual place to sit and drink a bottle but the town is awesome!

Miranda Brownlow

Google
Actually enjoyed all three of the free five wine samples, including the two red which I am not normally a fan of. All five were sweet in case you only like dry. Bottles were very reasonably priced as well, $15-17 each. Bartender was easy going charismatic without being awkward.

Yelp
Free wine tastings! Tasting counter is in the back. I think we tried 3 or 4 of the wines. They each were sweet and refreshing. Since it was a hot day I chose a wine slushy to go. The employee working the counter is friendly and helpful. She told us about the wines and answered our questions. The shop is dog friendly and sells wine and local goods. Good place to stop while in Manteo!

Mike M.

Yelp
The place is much more than just local wine. There are some great local art and jewelry that are priced very reasonably.

Yelp
Love this little wine shop in Manteo. There's a small area near the water front that has some shopping. The tasting room and wine shop also has some artisan items. The jewelry and art is made locally. The winery is local in Columbia, NC. We sampled 3 summer wines. They were all delicious and refreshing. The bottles were reasonably priced. It was nice to chat with the proprietor who gave us some nice explanations of the vineyard and the local crafts.

Yelp
Located across the street from Tranquil Inn, this tasting room is small but the wines are worth trying and even buying. The three we sampled were sweet and we purchased 1 Sangria and 1 Peach.

Yelp
I didn't know what to expect when we stopped here. It's a small vineyard store. We arrived and they have some items you can purchase but a small winery stand in the back of the store. When we arrived the woman was on the phone. She asked if we were doing wine tastings and said she can help 7 people at once. She said will only take 5 minutes. The phone rang and she answered, I would have started the wine tasting and let it ring. Customers are here and can be potentially buyers. She started the tasting and only 4 wines were available for tasting. She sled what we like and I said dry, she said one is a little dryer. It wasn't they were all super sweet. If I had to guess probably 3% residual sugar or more. They were all good but too sweet for me. We purchased the peach Chardonnay for my wife. The lady was nice and included the pamphlet with the main winery in Columbia, SC where's they have dryer wines.

Yelp
Omg the lady running the store Was awesome I'm not a wine person but Everything she described Was. Point Bought 3 bottles Will mail order more

Yelp
When walking in, this "vineyard" looks more like a souvenir shop than a place for wine. We walked in and the host was friendly and kind. However he stated "I hope you aren't those girls that only like dry wine because we only have sweet". Unfortunately we all don't prefer sweet wine and there's not one dry for you to taste test! It's not a bad spot to walk by and check out but we drove 40 minutes for a vineyard and it ended up being more like 5 shot glasses of grape juice.

Yelp
My partner and I did a little shopping around here and had to stop in and taste the wine. We were not disappointed the black Beary wine was amazing the best wine I've ever had. The hospitality was amazing and I loved the atmosphere. High recommend!

Yelp
Lovely little shop and tasting room. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. We tried all of the wines they had today and were pleased with all of them. If you like sweet wines this is the place. They also sell local art that was great. We left with 3 bottles and 3 new paintings. Pet friendly.

Yelp
While in town to visit the Aquarium, we stopped here to get some apple wine. Unfortunately they were out so we decided to expand our horizons and pick up some a white sangria and a red sangria. Picked up a wine glass and a stopper. Also a couple of pins for my jacket. All together cost us about 100 with tip. The gentleman behind the counter allowed us to sample some of the wines prior to buying. He was very knowledgeable and courteous. The whole experience was great. Been here two times now over the last two years. We will certainly be coming back here again next year.

Yelp
Stumbled across this little wine shop while walking around Manteo. Went in for the free tasting and loved their wine. Ended up buy 4 bottles and then went back a few months later to get more. If you like sweet wines, this is the place to go.

Yelp
The wine was just what I was looking for I love a really nice sweet wine and this was perfect

Yelp
Get the peach wine. It will be excellent with club soda for a peach wine spritzer! Well done Scuppernong!!

Yelp
Fabulous place to stop in on the way home from the OBX! The staff was so sweet and had really great wines.

Yelp
If you like sweet wines it is definitely a good place (albeit a bit pricey for local wine) but it is award winning. It is good, nice flavor but a little too reminiscent of the last time I had a cold and enjoyed a tasting of cold syrup. The shop and selection of jams and sauces was good, not local but good and well priced. The lady who I assume is the owner had that sweet southern charm I've come to enjoy and let us sample as many wines we wanted which is not something many places do. The wine I preferred was a dry riesling that wasn't on the menu. It was very nice. Crisp apple taste and the least sweet of all.

Yelp
We were halfway to nowhere driving from OBX to Myrtle Beach and happened upon this place. I had never even heard of a scuppernong, but Mrs. Yelp apparently loves them, so we stopped. The building is a nice cabin-looking thing, and right in the middle is a big tasting counter. A super friendly woman greeted us and gave us samples of all the wines we cared to try, no questions asked. I learned that a scuppernong is basically a grape that has elephantiasis and is slightly more tart. In addition to the scuppernong-derived wines, they had fun fruit varieties like blackberry and apple. I expected them to taste like juice or Maneschewitz, but they were actually great dessert wines. We ended up leaving with three bottles with a nice carrying case for $29. As mentioned, the service was noticeably excellent. Worth a stop if you happen to be in the area!

Yelp
Cute tasting room of muscadine & scuppernong grape wines by the waterfront in the small town of Columbia. It was my first time trying these very sweet whites & reds, but the proprietor was friendly and happy to let me sample a number ... ended up with 2 bottles of blackberry (as a dessert wine) and their driest red (still pretty sweet). They also have lots of little gift items and gourmet food snacks. Minus 1 star for the fruit flies.

Yelp
What a cute place. They do "tours" of the winery, meaning you can check out their decanters and explain the basic maceration and fermentation process, which is more profitable in the cooler weather for temperature regulation. The actual vineyards are down the road on 94 (travis rd) off of the 64. They import an number of Canadian muscadine grapes for their blends. The tasting room is downtown, right on 64, visible from the road. The lady running the tasting room was super friendly and easy to talk to. She let me try pretty much everything. The have a variety of muscadines and of course the Scuppernog varietals. For the whites: there's the crisp Catawba Belle, Girls of Summer is a sweet muscadine blush best chilled, Simply Scuppernong is a sweet white Muscadine, but my favorite was the Riesling (a blend of apple). For the reds: standard red Jackass easy table wine (not named after the owner) and Jingles with a hint of chocolate (couldn't resist a bottle of this) They also have a peach, blackberry and apple wines which are very sweet and fruity- very much dessert wines. Their showroom had a good variety of other items to browse, well maintained and presented, impressive for a small production. Some of the labels have a local artist's designs, which are also featured on cards and other keepsakes in the store, which is nice. Definitely worth a stop.

Yelp
Some of the best, local wine. You can try the wines before you buy them for free and everyone working there was so friendly and nice!

Luke W.

Yelp
Outstanding wine and outstanding staff! Tastings were free and we were given a complementary glass of wine to enjoy due to their Christmas open house. Would recommend to anyone!

Jess S.

Yelp
They do not respect the hours of operation on their website and telephone. I'm on vacation and it took an hour and half to drive there and they are closed. Super disappointed!!!!!!!!

Yelp
A great tasting experiance in a quait old reclaimed building. Friendly and kmowledgalbe staff, good wines free tasting and reasonable prices.

G M.

Yelp
Not so bad at all. Although the weather was cool and wet when we visited, I really liked the outdoor seating. Glass of wine...nice view...works for me! The tasting is free. Wider selection of wines than expected. I'm a dry red kinda guy so there wasn't a lot there for me but they did have a couple of unique wines. The peach wine made me want to make an adult peach slushy! Friendly staff. Good prices. I also liked the coffee shop in the back. Nice addition.

Yelp
We happened upon this place on a day trip to the outer banks this weekend. While I am not fond of sweet wines the woman conducting the tasting was very knowledgeable and made you feel very welcome. The tasting room is a quaint reclaimed building with a feel of comfort and sophistication. If we had more time we would have sat around for a while. They also offer a variety of olive oils. We will return with friends and family.

Yelp
I had a great time at this place with a great host in a great shop, but I just like to have a vineyard in plain sight when I am tasting wine. Its about a mile and a half away. I think it would have gotten 4 stars if it had been on site of the vineyards. 5 stars if I liked the wine. we all have different tastes though and I am not a sweet fan.

Karen R.

Yelp
Great little winery . loved the" Girls of summer " strawberry wine and unfortunately they were sold out of the peach wine... maybe next time. Also my son was very happy with the peach smoothie and strawberry cupcake at the coffee counter. All in all a very positive experience.

Tami C.

Yelp
Best tasting wine I've ever had. I'm a beer drinker but if I could find this locally I would change my mind. From Perry, Ohio
