Yelp
Bummer!! Looking forward to a new restaurant experience in Great Bridge, and Vino got pretty good Yelp reviews (4-star average from 240+ reviews when I checked).
I REALLY try to make my reviews fair and consider all things like staffing shortages, bad days, etc. And I truly believe this is fair.
Party of 4 with reservations on a Friday, early summer evening.
FOOD:
Apps: Complementary bread was hot and crusty, and while the rest of the party enjoyed it, I found it a little stale and "musty". Maybe it was just me. The Olive plate was fine, although the large cherry peppers far outnumbered the olives, which were all "Greek"-style.
Arancici were HUGE (2 on the plate)! Sauce was decent, exterior nicely fried, but the inside was pretty bland without some of the sausage in the bite. I also expected more of a binder from cheese, but the inside was pretty loose.
Entrees: Lasagna noodles and structure were really nice, but again - bland. Also, the rectangular pieces were served in a bowl. Why??
Eggplant Parm: Ginormous portion!! Easily 3 meals. Breading was great and fried well. Four HUGE pieces were served with at least a 1/2 pound of Capellini underneath. It was WAY too much, and sauce was barely mixed in, making the pasta difficult to get a complete bite in the fork. I waited for quite a while until another server brought a spoon for mixing/twirling. And again, the overall dish simply lacked flavor.
Mediterranean Penne: It was okay. It came with no sauce, which was unexpected, although sauce is not listed as an ingredient, to be fair. Ordered a side of marinara to give the dish some help with moisture. Added a meatball, which you might be able to see in the photo lacked texture and flavor.
SERVICE
Ours tried to be friendly, but was aloof at best. Also saw him running hands through hair in the bar after we had given our drink orders.
After ordering our food, we didn't see him again until he came back to ask how everything was tasting...while we were finishing up and asking for takeout boxes. They were not that busy.
Had to ask other servers for a pepper shaker, a pasta spoon, and a side of marinara (which was 1/4 cup). They were all very nice and responsive when we asked though!
We asked for a dessert menu along with the takeout boxes, and he brought one. When we asked for more than one he said he'd try to find another, but "there's only like 4 of these laying around in here." ???
Dessert: The menu mentioned Seasonal Gelato. His answer was they only had Choc and Van, and were out of Strawberry. I don't consider Choc/Van/Straw seasonal, but maybe that's just me. We all shared the Brownie sundae (it was called something else), which was very good.
CLEANLINESS
Ladies restroom was unacceptable. The sink mirror border had several large areas of dried soap foam, which made it very obvious they hadn't been touched since at least the day prior (they open at 4). The mirror glass was also very spotty and dirty, and there was a layer of what seemed like construction dust all over the place. The porcelain fixtures are black, so it's unfortunate that you can see everything, but it was legitimately not clean.
My party knows I'm a Yelper, and when I reported that back to them, one person then directed my attention to the dirty mop/cleaning bucket that was propped up in a corner of the dining room. Really??
PARKING
Not their fault, but it's tight! Highly suggest pulling into the extra parking towards the back, which is for the separate strip mall (Jersey Mike's, etc.). There is a HUGE pothole before the rear of the restaurant. I didn't see it on my way in because it was early, and the lot not very full. But on my way out, I detoured through that strip mall lot. Good thing it was still light out, or that pothole would have been a very unpleasant surprise.
OVERALL
Underwhelming. Maybe it was just an unfortunate snapshot, but there were too many down-checks on the basics to make returning worthwhile. Sad face.
