"Housed in the luxurious EXCELSIOR by Geisel hotel in the centre of Munich, not far from Stachus, Vinothek is a relaxed establishment done out in a cosy rustic style. The high cross-vaulted ceiling certainly has the wow factor, as does the array of decorative wine bottles. As you might expect from the name of this restaurant, delicious dishes that are inspired by the region and the Mediterranean, eg golden trout from the Birnbaum fish farm, parsley risotto, beurre blanc, are accompanied by a terrific selection of wines with a focus on Germany, France and Austria. Tip: Check out their reasonably priced lunchtime set menu including coffee and water. Cookery courses and "kitchen parties" are also organised." - Michelin Inspector

A Delightful Evening at Vinothek by Geisel We recently had the pleasure of dining at Vinothek by Geisel in Munich, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. From the moment we walked in, we were met with impeccable service. The crisp white linen napkins, the attentive staff dressed in elegance, and the waiters with white gloves added a touch of sophistication to the evening. Each dish was a masterpiece, served with care and attention to detail. The flavors were exquisite, and every bite reflected the restaurant’s commitment to culinary excellence. We were particularly impressed by the seamless balance between traditional Bavarian influences and modern European cuisine. The atmosphere was intimate yet lively, making it perfect for both a special occasion or a relaxed evening out. Vinothek by Geisel truly exceeded our expectations, offering a dining experience that was delightful from A to Z. We can’t wait to return!

Excellent meal! Very happy to have found this restaurant through our search process for a top quality meal in Munich. From the opening, the service exceeded my expectations. The staff were friendly, dedicated, and extremely knowledgeable. They helped provide recommendations, wine pairings, and worked well together. The food was top notch. From their on-site prosciutto meat slicer, to their appetizers, and of course wonderful execution of main dishes, we were over the moon with this meal. Highly recommend the veal cheek. Their extensive wine list is impressive, so you'll certainly find something you love.

As an avid food enthusiast, I'm always on the hunt for dining experiences that offer not only exceptional dishes but also impeccable ambiance and service. Recently, I discovered a German restaurant that checked all these boxes and more. Nestled in a bustling yet charming neighborhood, this culinary gem boasts a cozy, warm, and luxurious setting that instantly makes you feel at home. The restaurant is usually filled with patrons, a testament to the quality and popularity of its offerings. The mastermind behind this gastronomic haven is a renowned 3-star Michelin chef who has elevated traditional German cuisine to new heights. With his culinary genius, he has crafted a menu that can only be described as pure perfection. One must-try recommendation is the asparagus with tiger prawns - a harmonious medley of flavors and textures, with the succulent prawns perfectly complementing the tender asparagus spears. The dish, like every other on the menu, is a testament to the chef's attention to detail and passion for creating unforgettable experiences for his guests. For seafood lovers, the fish with risotto dish is an absolute delight. The fish, cooked flawlessly, melts in your mouth, while the creamy risotto provides a rich and satisfying accompaniment. The flavors are impeccably balanced, and the presentation is nothing short of artistic. The crowning glory of this restaurant, however, is its unrivaled selection of local red wines. Each wine is carefully chosen to complement the dishes, enhancing the overall dining experience. The knowledgeable staff are more than happy to guide you through the extensive wine list, ensuring you find the perfect match for your chosen dish. The ambiance is an integral part of the experience, and this restaurant does not disappoint. With its warm lighting, plush seating, and elegant decor, the atmosphere is both inviting and intimate. Despite the restaurant's popularity, the attentive staff never fail to make each guest feel like a VIP, delivering service that is second to none. In conclusion, this German restaurant is an absolute must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in a memorable culinary adventure. The combination of exquisite cuisine, unmatched local red wines, and a warm, luxurious atmosphere make it a dining experience you'll want to savor time and time again. I wholeheartedly recommend the asparagus with tiger prawns and the fish with risotto dish, but truthfully, you can't go wrong with any choice from this masterfully curated menu. Book your reservation now, and prepare to be blown away.

Excellent resto. Very nice wine list by bottle and a surprisingly good selection by glass. They were able to provide a decanter for the bottle. Food and service were both excellent. Would certainly go back next time in Munich.

The place is popular. The food is good and the service is meticulous. We ordered different courses, so the service asked how we would like the courses to be served. When my soup was served, there was a small portion served for my partner. We were happy surprised and we also liked the soup very much.

The restaurant is a German-Italian fusion. Service is impeccable, but for a Michelin guide restaurant I must say disappointing. Pasta was extremely over-salted (also pasta from a cheap box), vegetables out of season (probably frozen or pure).

Google
We had a fabulous meal, excellent service and a diverse choice of wines by the glass on our recent visit. Our server ( young man with beard) gave great recommendations and was obviously very into his work. Great to see the passion in providing an awesome experience. He made a difference. We loved our visit so much we came back the next night for dessert again.

Google
Beautiful restaurant. Lovely decor. Right by Hauptbahnhof. Pappardelle main dish delicious €22-28. Cosy with old Wine cabinets. Candle lit. Attentive staff. Extensive wine list and delicious 25 year old rum ! Beautiful and romantic!

Yelp
This is the most charmingly awesome place! The food is excellent and the old world ambience is terrific. We arrived at 3:03 and the restaurant had closed at 3 for a private party. Nonetheless we were served cold dishes in the lobby of the hotel which was so kind of the kitchen to provide because I had been talking about the chicken liver crostini for weeks as we planned our trip. We never miss Vinothek when we come to Munich and because the house made an exception for us, my streak continues.

Yelp
We enjoyed our complimentary drinks from the hotel and a small snack after a day of exploring the city. Interesting decor in the restaurant that could definitely use some cleaning. Service was very good!

Yelp
Came here for a relaxed evening to sip on hood wine. Definitely loved the experience. Had the large cheese platter along with the wine ... great selection. Overall, I would recommend this place.

Yelp
I have been meaning to go here for a few years now and we finally made it with some friends for an evening. The wine bar is located inside the Excelsior hotel and there is no visible sign on the door when you walk in. It also has an outdoor space for the warm days. To be honest the location of this hotel is not great so sitting outside is probably not an option I would choose. When you see the photos of this place it looks huge but in fact, it's relatively small with seating for about 30-40 people. The menu is limited with very limited vegetarian options but the kitchen was kind enough to prepare a vegetarian meal on request. You have a small selection of sharing plates and main courses. They also have a daily specials board. The wine list here is fabulous but prices are on the high side. I would give the wine list 5 stars as they have a good selection of European wines including many from the DACH region. The food is nice but nothing special. The cheese tray was great and so was the prosciutto San Daniele. My main course was a Forelle in bouillabaisse and it was nice but lacked the punch of a real good broth. The dessert of trio of Creme brûlée was also ok nothing special. Service was nice and friendly but lacked a bit of the warmth. It was efficient service but took a while to get orders done and to receive the food. I would come back here for a glass if Wine or two. In a town with slim pickings for Wine bars this is not a bad option. It's gorgeous inside and has a nice ambience.

Yelp
Great ambiance, great food and service. The sliced ham and meats were amazing and the wine selection was excellent If you are looking for a traditional German restaurant in the center of Munich city check out Vinotek by Geisel

Yelp
Do not go to this restaurant unless you are prepared to spend a lot of money ! There are 2 parts to the restaurant: the public part on view from the street, which is very crowded, and a small part at the back of the hotel, near the bar, which isn't. We went to the latter and had an excellent meal. We started with crostini, and my wife then had he bouillabaisse and I had the veal cheeks, all washed down with a delicious bottle of Riesling. For dessert we both had chocolate torte with a glass of Kuchner sweet wine. The service was impeccable: friendly, attentive, quick. The food was all excellent. The only thing not to like was the bill (210 Euros) but of course as English people we are crucified on the appalling exchange rate resulting from the crazy decision to leave the European community, so we only have ourselves to blame. If you apply the exchange rate of 18 months ago the meal would have been very pricey, but good value. As it was, you just had to suspend your disbelief and concentrate on enjoying yourself, perhaps recalling that our European colleagues are now able to enjoy relatively inexpensive food when they come to the UK !

Yelp
Excellent wine, friendly staff, delicious food. Cannot ask for more!

Yelp
Super torn about this review because the food was really good, but they WAY over charged me. And I believe it was intentional. For the food: I got the prosciutto with melon and some bruschetta. The prosciutto was sliced right in front of me and it was fantastic. I'd definitely recommend both. Also, there's a really good selection of wines. For the overcharge: the waiter helped me choose what to order based on what I was craving and whah he recommended. Once I asked for the check, I noticed that I was charged for things I didn't even order. I'm thinking they assumed that since I didn't speak German and didn't order directly off the menu I wouldn't question my bill (which I didn't) but that doesn't make it okay. All in all, they added ~$15 in items I didn't ask for or receive. Looking back, I should have had them correct the bill, but I was having a great lunch and didn't want to ruin it. Instead, I'm recommending that all of you double check your bills if you go there!

Yelp
The restaurant is nice inside with a big wine selection. Service was great! The issues I had were the menu is limited and the portions are extremely small. Chef did a good job making the food, just expected more on the plate.

Yelp
Came here twice. First time lighter bite, got prosciutto and roast beef. Both were good and a lot of meat. Second time, we just got crostini and the 3 course dinner, in which I picked the tartare, a pasta dish, and cheeks. Fave was the tartare. Pasta good, didn't like the cheeks. Sauce too heavy and sweet for me. Service wasn't so great either.

Yelp
So good. Loved the wait staff, the food, the ambience. Just great.

Yelp
My wife did the homework, finding Vinothek (pronounced Veenoh-Tek) as part of our Munich-Venice holiday sojourn. Her research was affirmed with a strong recommendation from our concierge (superb) at our excellent hotel (Eden Hotel Wolff). Barely a five-minute stroll found us rewarded with a restaurant combining classy with cozy...underscored by terrific cuisine. Our foursome had dishes ranging from seafood risotto (saffron seasoning A+) to beef tartar to saltimbocca to lamb. MVI (item) award to the singularly succulent warm, olive-oil-infused bread. MVI #2 - prosciutto w/buffalo mozzarella. MVI #3 - our server, Lita (sp.) and the entire serving staff. Proficient, courteous, personable and overall dedicated to making sure our meal was satisfactory. It was memorable. If you are aiming for a dining variation on the standard Bavarian fare (read sausage), within a comfortable, unhurried setting, find your way to VinoThek. Vielen Dank, All!

Yelp
Very good food, friendly service, excellent advice on wine. Very good wine selection, the name Vinothek is legitimate. The business lunch offer for about 20 Euro incl. starter, 0,5l water and coffee or tea is the best value for money. Even with the business lunch offer mostly an alternative starter, fish instead of meat (or vice versa) for the main course can be chosen therefore 5 stars.

Yelp
The food was great and service exceptional. I went in for the first time as an international traveler and felt like a regular. I thoroughly enjoyed it and every one of the staff I interacted with.
