Silver Lake Wine Hit Vinovore Grows Scope With New Eagle Rock Outpost - Eater LA

"Silver Lake’s female-centric wine shop Vinovore has scored a second location, taking over a former corner store at 4627 York Boulevard, on the edge of Eagle Rock and Highland Park. The original outpost on Virgil, which dates to 2017, managed to push through the early days of the pandemic thanks to robust takeaway sales, and now owners Coly Den Haan (the Must, Perch) and Angelica Luna are ready to branch out further east. The space, which opens Saturday, November 20, will keep daily hours from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. selling wines from global female winemakers as well as other products from women-owned businesses across a broad spectrum. Perhaps most interestingly, the new location will expand into the takeaway food space, taking a page from other Eastside-ish takeaway markets in the area. And while this new Vinovore won’t carry the same type of robust deli and produce section as, say, Cookbook Market, it will offer an expanded array of goods like Atwater Village’s Wine & Eggs, including ready-to-eat items and take-home meals. There are sandwiches from Otoño chef Teresa Montaño out of Highland Park and sourdough doughnuts from former underground bakery Gemini Bakehouse. Locals can also find frozen take-home pizzas from La Morra and bags of coffee from Canyon Coffee. The new Vinovore is well-placed, too, just blocks from Occidental College and a slew of incoming restaurant tenants including a Charleston-styled seafood spot from the Found Oyster team and a pizza and bagel operation from chef Bradford Kent — and that’s to say nothing of all the other attractions further down York, from vegan sports bars to Kumquat Coffee and Taiwanese favorite Joy. Eagle Rock’s new Vinovore opens this Saturday." - Farley Elliott

Google
My all time favorite wine and gift shop!! The staff are super helpful (and hot, for what it’s worth). Love the variety of card and gift and N/A options - something for everyone. I’ve been shopping here for years and feel so lucky and grateful that we have a location in our neighborhood.

I left here with a not so great feeling. I went in there and bought one item, which I brought to the counter where two people were standing talking behind the counter. When I was putting my card in the machine and was going through the payment process, one of them pointed over the machine “oh this is where you leave a tip”and without think I left a tip but later I was thinking wow I just paid $30+ in total for 4 small cans of Ghia Spritz. Why should I tip on something that A. Is already marked up slightly at a boutique market and B. Which I chose and carried to the counter myself without any assistance? It’s one thing to have that tip option, but to point at it and imply that I need to tip was obnoxious and caught me off guard and made me feel pressured to leave a tip. As someone who has worked in the service industry, I’m more than happy to tip servers that are on their feet serving plates of food and cleaning up and working hard. I also believe in supporting local small businesses. I also know I’m not alone in finding all this “tip on everything everywhere you go” situation to be annoying, but the only interaction I had with the staff in there was when they made sure I was aware that “this is where you leave a tip.” Tip for what?

Google
Highly recommend! I put together a gift box for a friend and it was so easy + actually really fun to do online - they have a great selection of goods beyond liquor and the packaging was so well done. The delivery was also such a breeze - the driver texted me directly to confirm the timing and once it was actually delivered.

Google
hadn’t been to this location yet until recently! really big selection, way more cold stuff. keeps the wonderful vibe of the first location and transports it and gives it a little more of a put together, orderly feel. altogether just as special as the first spot, highly recommend for natural wine and small snacks and goodies.

Google
Very good selection of wine couched in a cozy little corner store, complete with select craft beers, sake, specialty cheeses and all the 90's nostalgia you can shake your fist at! Great atmosphere, great little gift boxes, great people!

Google
Great local wine shop with the best wine descriptions and curation to make sure you pick the wine you are craving. Great little gift shop too.

Yelp
I LOVE coming here to wander around! They have an amazing wine selection, great gifts, and little trinkets. I love that they showcase women wine makers and am more than happy to support them! They have cute descriptions on each of their wines which is A) informative but B) entertaining. They also have a few cheeses and meats to pair, along with some cute little ice creams. The last time I cam here I ended up buying 4 bottles and I only came in for 1 Definitely check this place out for your wine needs!

Yelp
Vinovore is a women owned natural wine shop that opened in my neighborhood in November 2021. Their first location was established in Silver Lake in 2017. They carry a nicely curated collection of wines made by female winemakers and frequently host "Meet the Makers" wine tastings. I finally had the opportunity to check this adorable place out during the Launch Party for their Winesplaining Podcast - hosted by Coly Den Haan (Co-Owner & one of L.A.'s first female sommeliers). Guests were treated to wine based "Emotional Punch" and free tacos from HomeState (also women owned.) In addition to wine & beer they also sell snacks, cheese, and packaged food items. There's a seating area outside so you can sit and enjoy a glass of wine and a nibble. Each bottle has a little tag that tells you about the wine and the tasting notes, which is very helpful. They also carry a variety of fun, clever gift items. There is a small parking lot in back and free street parking. Check out the podcast at www.winesplainingpodcast.com

Yelp
SUCH an amazing selection of low or no sulfite, organic wines! They also have cool events, such as wine tastings and a membership where you can get wine delivered monthly! LOVE everything about Vinovore.

Yelp
Vinovore is a wine and goods shop with a focus on female winemakers and natural wines. We stopped by for a bottle of wine after a hike at Mount Thom. They can't open a bottle of wine for you, but they have chilled bottles, outdoor tables, and you can buy a bottle opener. Just sayin', The selection was amazing. I wish we had been able to buy/enjoy more, but we were leaving the next day to start our road trip up the coast of California. Otherwise, I could have done some damage to my credit card at Vinovore. The store is small but so well and thoughtfully stocked! Great vines, interesting vines, diverse wines, natural wines, and more! One of the best, most fun wine shops I've visited, even if one of the smaller. Would go out of my way to shop here again.

Yelp
We were walking in the neighborhood and decided to stop by. So glad we did. I love the well curated collection of wine, beer and unique gift goodies in their space. There even sell the half bottles if you want a sampling before committing to a full bottle. There even a little outdoor are where you can drink. This is a female owned space.

Yelp
Incredible wine selection with fantastic hand written write up's for every bottle. Sometimes I take a long time in here just reading everything and imagining what everything tastes like. YUM CITY! They also have sandwiches from Otono, the best restaurant in HP. Don't sleep on those! Also, they have a really cool logo which I think would make a cool sweatshirt. Hopefully they start selling merch!

Yelp
New spot around the block. Stopped by and the vintage charm is awesome. The variety of wines, cheeses, and charming collectibles is on point. It is in a fantastic location and bound to have returning customers given unique offerings. You can also buy to go sandwiches. If you are near by, give it a try and fall in love :))

Yelp
Love them, love the their selection. So many yummy pet nats and funky orange wines female owned and run

Yelp
Love the products, wine obviously is a huge draw but they have books and snacks and all the trinkets. The downside as others have mentioned is the customer service sucks. Despite their lack of acknowledgment when we walked in, I asked for help because I was looking for their ~professional recommendation~ but I felt like I was bothering them and they were not so open to chatting/sharing their knowledge about the selections available. Overall I'd return if I were looking for a cool, meaningful gift.

Yelp
I went for a Sake & cheese tasting, it was nice. Very charming place with lots of interesting items and wines and cheeses. Some of the staff could use a smile.

Yelp
Great shop with lots of really interesting wines including natural wines! Wish I lived closer, I'd be here all the time!

Yelp
This shop is full of organic, unfiltered, incredible wine. The service there is stellar. Everyone is always kind, incredibly helpful, and super Duper knowledgeable. Best place to go for gifts as well! They have a little gift shop, it's not just wine. Check them out! You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
First time in the store to pick up wines. Loved the zoom wine tasting we took part in over the weekend. Fun, informative and great women made wines. Thank you for offering this!
google avatar

Gina M.

Yelp
Brought my best friend here to pick up some wine and we ended up leaving with wine, snacks, cat treats and bath salts. If you need a gift for someone this place has a great selection and staff are super helpful!

Yelp
Great natural wines, especially love coming for the chilled reds and oranges. All wines are from women-owned winemakers and they have other cute gifts and snacks from women-owned creatives as well. Staff is friendly if you don't know what you're looking for, and there's rarely a line or lot of people inside.

Jordan A.

Yelp
Cute aesthetic shop, with nice gifting boxes and trickets for a cozy night in. The wines I picked are pretty good and were reasonably priced. The only negative: the clerk was absent when I was browsing in the shop. Not much of an acknowledgement outside of 'hey'. I know some people like a hands off approach but it felt a bit disengaged and unfriendly (I was also prompted to tip at the end of purchase...)

Mark R.

Yelp
Just walked in--my husband and I said "hello" to the person at the front counter who just looked at us. As we walked around the store looking at things, no one else said hi or asked us if we needed hIt's fascinating to see a small business not even provide a greeting or an invitation to help. So we talked out. Also, if this is a progressive company you shouldn't be selling the Boxed Water is Better. It's owned by Betsy DeVos.

Yelp
Welcoming local small-business -- happy to shop here. I hope they continue to add to their craft beer collection, but the options they have are well-curated.

Yelp
what a gem! not only is it great to have a local female owned wine shop where you can just walk in and grab a nice bottle of wine for dinner, but the tchtotkes and gifts here are awesome. it's like a mix of fun clever items (lighters that use electric sparks to make flames, soy candles, vacuum type clitoral vibrators, unique card games) but also nostalgic stuff, mostly from the 90s (like hackey sac balls and truth or dare cards). a very FUN store. and the ladies who work here have always been super nice and helpful to me.

Kyle C.

Yelp
Amazing wine and THEE best spot for gifts. Very helpful and friendly staff. If you're looking to support small businesses and local artists, this is the spot.

Lucia R.

Yelp
Apparently people who think they're the coolest thing since sliced bread still exist in LA, and they all just so happen to work here. Y'all.... These reviews have to be fake as hell, they must have rounded up their nearest & dearest to come on here and leave positive reviews. All of them coincidentally mention their "women's empowerment" philosophy. As a woman visiting this establishment I DID NOT feel supported, lol. As a customer visiting this establishment, MUCH LESS. They do not greet, engage, or acknowledge you/with you unless they are rudely storming past you and swinging cooler doors 2 inches from your face while stocking..... some of the poorest customer service (if you could call it that, since they literally are providing no service at all) and then they ask you to tip at the end... LMAO.

Rose F.

Yelp
Super friendly staff and owners, extremely helpful, stylish store, and best of all EXCELLENT ALL NATURAL WINES! THANK YOU!!!

Yelp
I love this place so much! I love that they are supporting women winemakers and they have a huge varied selection. Everyone that works there is so sweet and helpful. In terms of the rude 1 star review - every time I've gone in they let you know they are there to help but then stay back unless you ask for anything which I personally really appreciate. It stresses me out when people hover behind me which definitely happens in some wine stores. Probably my favorite thing about this place is the little tags that tell you all about the wines and tasting notes making it accessible for anyone- I'm new to drinking wine, so it's fun to explore and nice to be able to learn about them and keep track of what types I like. They also have all the fun write ups on their website so you can order ahead of time (even for delivery !) or just get a nice browse before you go. Part of what kept me from getting into wine before is how snobby people usually are, it always felt like a really intimidating environment until coming here. They are very knowledgeable and sweet when you have any questions but also give you space to do your own thing.
