I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was incredibly disappointing--especially given how excited I was to return.
The service was inattentive from the start. Our server seemed bothered and disengaged, and it wasn't just with us--it was consistent with every table around us.
We started with the crab cakes, which were shockingly boring. They lacked seasoning and flavor entirely. However, we were famished. For our entrées, we ordered the lamb and the ribeye, both medium rare. While they were technically cooked correctly, they were again severely lacking flavor. There was also nowhere near the amount of sauce shown in photos from other dinners, which made the dishes feel dry and unfinished. After two bites, we decided to box the food up and take it home in hopes of salvaging it ourselves.
We were really hoping dessert would redeem the night, so we ordered two--apple pie and chocolate lava cake. Unfortunately, they were just as lackluster as everything else. Completely underwhelming and forgettable.
When our server checked on us, I was honest and said the food was lacking and to please bring our check so we can head home. This prompted the manager to come over. I explained that I had been here about seven years ago and had dreamed about this place ever since. I could never remember the name, but when I recently saw it on TikTok, I was so excited that I immediately made a reservation.
Instead of listening or acknowledging our disappointment, the manager explained that there had been a wedding or Christmas party, implying that this might be why our service suffered. She then stated that the menu hasn't changed in seven years--and even mentioned she herself had been here back then--essentially invalidating my experience and making me feel foolish for feeling differently now. When I asked if the chef was also the same after all these years, she crossed her arms, looked at me like a child, and shook her head "yes." She left her card and told me to reach out to her next time. Absolutely will not be a next time.
The entire interaction felt dismissive and condescending.
Maybe my expectations were too high--but only because this restaurant had once left such a strong impression on me. I was genuinely excited to share this place with my boyfriend. Instead, I ended up apologizing to him after dinner and feeling embarrassed for how much I had hyped it up. I was so excited I nearly cried--not from joy, but from disappointment.
Sadly, this experience did not live up to the memory or the reputation.
