Critic Dines at Mount Pleasant Staple Red Drum After Long Hiatus - Eater Carolinas

"Post and Courier critic Hanna Raskin visits Southern restaurant VIP Bistro and declares that “... the property seems poised to emerge as a leading breakfast destination.” She urges readers to save room for the “magnificent” grits. She also drops this very importance sentence: “From 7-8 p.m on Thursdays, before the all-you-can-eat blue crabs are served, wine is free.”" - Erin Perkins

Food was great. Went twice so far and had the fried Turkey wings, could've had more seasoning but it wasn't bad at all and the collards OMG the best I've had at any restaurant. Second time was the shrimp Alfredo, the sauce is pretty heavy but at least it's not dry! Pricing a little steep but the plates are pretty big. Tasha and Evan gave good service also. Small but comfortable dining area.

Yelp
Everything we had here was absolutely delicious! The meatloaf special (Thursdays), cornbread, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, Philly cheese steak sandwich, & mac and cheese all tasted like they had been home cooked. While it looks more like a bar inside than a restaurant (with maybe only two small tables to sit at), their kitchen serves top notch southern comfort foods. I suggest doing what we did and get the food to go. We even called ahead and the food was waiting for us when we walked through the door. I wholeheartedly recommend checking them out. They are located beside the Ravenel Bridge offramp onto Meeting Street and even have a parking lot.

Yelp
This little place is considered a " hole in the wall" and it's absolutely amazing. I would describe the food as homey/ southern comfort food and its so very good. I got the shrimp and grits with salmon for only $20 and i loved it! For drinks I got a tequila sunrise (you could instantly taste fresh orange juice) and it was really good! They also do things like hookahs and their seafood boil pans they do every Saturday goes for only like $25 . I would add that this is more of an environment for adults during evening time also

Yelp
I've been thinking about coming here for a long time because it looks like a strip club from the outside (I mean, I knew it wasn't but just saying). So GREAT! It's a little hipster but not too much, reminds me vaguely of something like the tin roof which is an all time fave. Super huge fan of the atmosphere, really great surprise. Obviously, I wish it were a strip club but we can't have everything we want.

Yelp
This restaurant is so delicious! We stumbled across it after leaving the aquarium and it had such good food for a very decent price. A huge plus adding on to their delicious food is the parking available right out front. We loved it here and definitely plan to return!

Yelp
Loved our server Veronica! And the food was excellent. This was my first time visiting today but I'm going to become a regular. The prices are fantastic for the amount of food you retrieve. I'd recommend the buffalo dip.

Yelp
This place at the end of an unassuming little strip mall with other restaurants. I've driven by there a hundred times and never even noticed it. I think I read another review that said it may have been a strip club....I concur. As we walked in it was exceptionally clean with plenty of seating for a small place and plenty of TVs. What stood out most was the service and the quality of the food. I had the fried pork chop with collards and fried okra. Exceptional. We spoke with the chef who advised that he has been making homemade ice cream and invited us to return with the kiddos. What a GREAT place...it's easy to miss but worth finding!!

Yelp
This little hole in the wall is extremely clean with a very little ambience. However, come for the food. As others have said the fried shrimp was delicious was the fried chicken. So hot and freshly prepared that it was too hot to eat. Fresh from the frier just like mom made it. Both were crispy while the chicken was also moist and juicy and the shrimp tasted fresh. The Mac and cheese was perfect and the collards were delicious with big chunks of ham and cooked just right. The garlic mashed potatoes were a little sharp. Next time I want fried chicken, I'm sure we will head to Charleston and the VIP Grill.

Yelp
We're from out of state and we're traveling in the Charleston area when came across this little place on Yelp and thought we'd give it a try. We were NOT disappointed! The staff is friendly and made us feel right at home. Tasha was very attentive to every need and ready to provide service with a huge welcoming smile and positive attitude. The food didn't disappoint either. The Southern Soul Fried Chicken definitely has heart and soul in it! The flavor popped with a unique flavor of seasoning done just right and a nice crisp crunchy exterior, inside was moist and tender chicken. The steak fries and onion rings were cooked to perfection crisp and not greasy, yet tender inside as well, and again seasoned to perfection. The steak quesadilla was huge and the fresh pick, green lettuce and sour cream the perfect sides! The quesadilla was stuffed with the most tender steak, cheeses, bell peppers and onions. Definitely come hungry, because you're going to want to have a slice of carrot cake for dessert! The creamiest cream cheese frosting sits atop moist light carrot cake. This place is a hidden gem!

Yelp
This was the most amazing little place ever ! Best fresh food and homemade carrot cake to die for!

Yelp
Excellent service & food! My family & I just love it! Home cooked meals are hard to find that are so delectable! Well, VIP Bistro has perfected this culinary skill, and the soul music just takes you back to the days when music was music! Keep up the great work!
