Yelp
I'm giving 3 1/2 yelp stars to newcomer Virgola Wine Bar.
My wife and I walk into a nice looking decorated space. Slate gray colors, nice looking bar and in the back are a few 4 tops to kick back. There are higher tables hugging the walls, all back tables were filled up so my wife & I sat at a high top. So far so good.
I like to play possum and ask questions about the different wines. If I'm at a wine bar, I except to have the server knowledgeable on what's being served. I asked for a taste of their Barbera, it tasted weak? I switched it up to their Montepulciano. Maybe it's me but what I tasted and what came to me in a glass tasted different.
Saturday afternoon, our waitress extended the happy hour menu to us. My wife doesn't eat oysters so I got 3 to start. I pulled something out of the oyster that wasn't oyster. I told the waitress, she was cool and gave the oysters to us gratis.
We ordered a large meat & cheese plate. The cheese we choose were amazing!!! The Robiola was a soft spreadable cheese, we knocked it out. Gorgonzola was creamy and dreamy, it was soooo good! We ordered two meats, prosciutto and Nduja. The Nduja was like raw spicy sausage, meh. The ham was good so we're mixed on our meat choices.
There were stuffed peppers, it tasted like they picked it out of the jar.
Overall, nice looking wine bar. We had great cheeses and the oysters tasted fresh. First time here so 3 1/2 star visit, rounded up. Patchogue is a beer town, I'm glad there is now a Italian wine bar
