The Manhattan Bar Directory

"Stand up. Walk four steps to your left. You’ve now walked the entire width of Virgola, which may very well be the smallest bar in New York City. Don’t let its stature deceive you – this Italian wine bar deserves a spot on your roster. It’s dark and vibey, and has $1 oysters all day." - katherine lewin, hillary reinsberg

First time here was a good time! Service, food and quaint ambiance. That being said, once the live entertainment started it was too loud for such a small place and you couldnt carry on a conversation! Flatbreads, oysters and meat/cheese boards were good! Friendly service, decent prices will probably return!

Laura P

Google
Great happy hour- 2 for 1 wines and oyster of the day for $1. Other oyster selections $1.50 east coast and $2.50 west coast. Oysters were very fresh. Location is small, so best for small parties.

Yelp
I'm obsessed with this place! Beautiful bar and lovely cocktail menu as well as charcuterie boards. I came here with a girlfriend the other week and lost my engagement ring in the restroom.. called here as a last resort and they had kept it for me! Not only did they save me from a painfully awkward conversation with my fiance, but the lovely bartender provided me with a glass of prosecco and a gratitude for finding the owner of the lost ring! Cheers Virgola!

Yelp
Really good wine bar. Good drinks and great wine. We've only had apps so far and they were terrific. This little spot is off the beaten path (not on Main Street and that's a good thing!) and its worth the little extra time to search it out.

Yelp
My husband and I have been curious about Virgola Wine Bar since we moved to Patchogue, but never got a chance to stop in as we were unfamiliar with their hours. For my birthday this year, my husband suggested going to check it out (this was the Wednesday before Thanksgiving) and they had a Wednesday special going on which was half off wine bottles. We figured we would grab a charcuterie board and a bottle of wine and just relax. And that's exactly what we did! We tried a couple of samples of wine before landing on the Sangiovese red wine, which was absolutely delicious. We grabbed the bruschetta- Classico ($12) and three of our favorite cheeses (burrata, parmigiano reggiano, and raschera) which were reasonably priced ($8 each), and the portions that were given made that price totally worth it. Everything we ate was tasty and we couldn't even finish the cheeseboard between the two of us which we can normally do so we definitely left full and happy. We did run out of bread at one point but just we asked for more and they brought it right over. The vibe in there is very calm and relaxing. There were several people in there but everyone seemed to be unwinding and hanging out with friends so that was nice. It's dimly lit so it definitely gives those city wine bar vibes. I will definitely be bringing some of my friends to Virgola! Just need to find the right day since they have daily happy hours/promotions. Check it out for sure!

Yelp
I can only speak on the atmosphere, service and wine. I stopped in for a drink with friends. We did not order any food but I look forward to going back and ordering. Excellent wine list. Lots of choices. Large bar area. Cute side seats. I liked the atmosphere. Staff was friendly.

Yelp
Delicious charcuterie selections and wine. Friendly and helpful staff. Relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. A little oasis in the Village just off Main Street.

Yelp
Still love this place. THE BEST SPOT IN PATCHOGUE. Relaxing and love the decor and food. Drinks are amazing and the menu keeps expanding. Ask for Luigi.

Yelp
Nice place to go on a Monday night. Great food, drink, and atmosphere. The best fresh seafood, provolone, and prosciutto. Friendly bartender and servers. I recommend them to everyone.

Yelp
I'm giving 3 1/2 yelp stars to newcomer Virgola Wine Bar. My wife and I walk into a nice looking decorated space. Slate gray colors, nice looking bar and in the back are a few 4 tops to kick back. There are higher tables hugging the walls, all back tables were filled up so my wife & I sat at a high top. So far so good. I like to play possum and ask questions about the different wines. If I'm at a wine bar, I except to have the server knowledgeable on what's being served. I asked for a taste of their Barbera, it tasted weak? I switched it up to their Montepulciano. Maybe it's me but what I tasted and what came to me in a glass tasted different. Saturday afternoon, our waitress extended the happy hour menu to us. My wife doesn't eat oysters so I got 3 to start. I pulled something out of the oyster that wasn't oyster. I told the waitress, she was cool and gave the oysters to us gratis. We ordered a large meat & cheese plate. The cheese we choose were amazing!!! The Robiola was a soft spreadable cheese, we knocked it out. Gorgonzola was creamy and dreamy, it was soooo good! We ordered two meats, prosciutto and Nduja. The Nduja was like raw spicy sausage, meh. The ham was good so we're mixed on our meat choices. There were stuffed peppers, it tasted like they picked it out of the jar. Overall, nice looking wine bar. We had great cheeses and the oysters tasted fresh. First time here so 3 1/2 star visit, rounded up. Patchogue is a beer town, I'm glad there is now a Italian wine bar

Yelp
One word - elegant. This establishment had class and boy did it have taste. I went here Friday evening with my wife. I stumbled upon it while searching for a place to eat in Patchogue. Let me tell'ya; we had a remarkable evening and it was in no small part thanks to the service and quality eats this restaurant had to offer. The waitress was on point; very helpful and accommodating. Didn't like a drink? "We'd be glad to exchange it." "Try this dish, it's my favorite." I like to ask from time to time what's recommended on the menu and, at times, the question catches waiters as if they were fish out of water. Not here. They've got recommendations for food and parings to go. The oysters were superb. So was the variety meat and cheese plate we received and the margharita pizza bites. And by the by, that it was in Patchogue... you'd never know; the establishment is away from the bustle, which is awesome because it helps to lend to the romantic atmosphere the establishment sets. I thought it a nice touch to provide small clip on lights for the menu; sometimes a place is really dark, making it difficult to see what the heck is on the menu. LOL. Again, just a nice touch. So, if you want a nice and smooth time for two or small crowd... look no further my friends.

Yelp
Virgola is one of the very few places in Patchogue where I can go to enjoy a nice evening. Living in the area for the past two years, most Patchogue establishments (no offense) are noisy and swarmed by 20 somethings partying. Virgola offers a quieter, darker ambience and a relaxed atmosphere while having good music and live musicians. They have a very nice wine selection, a full bar and a well crafted selection of small plate option like charcuterie, shrimp cocktail, and other items. The service at the bar is prompt, attentive and pleasant. Definitely give Virgola a try.

Yelp
To call themselves an oyster bar is a stretch of a pretty wild imagination, to say it's amazing is an even wider exaggeration but I will say I enjoyed the place. We were sort of an obnoxious group to deal with last night but the girl behind the bar handled us well and took good care of us. Half of what we got was great and half was good but needed something to really take it beyond itself. The mushrooms were great but got old quick, needed a touch of salt. The Gorgonzola was creamy and wonderful and could do no wrong. The harder cheese with the agave was incredible but we weren't served enough of that agave... to be honest, is there ever enough? The included grapes were a good and a much needed touch to break up the plate. The bread and meats were nice, the mortadella sounds good on the menu but falls a little short on the palette as well as the smoke characteristic listed on the speck... although it was all delicious. The oysters, shrimp cocktail, and ceviche dish was... it was good but sort of lackluster in my opinion, the cocktail sauce needed horseradish, the mignonette was sort of bland but complemented the oysters well and I'd prefer going to catch, but the oysters given (unsure of what kind they were exactly) were good. The ceviche was a let down in flavor other than the nice fruity salsa but all overall enjoyable enough; airy and pleasant, none the least. I doubt I'd do that trio again though. The wine, the service, all on point. The atmosphere... it's okay; a place like that in a concrete prison cell just seems.... not right. I'll be generous and give them the full four stars but I expected just a little more "wow."

Yelp
Fantastic! Super cozy, great service, delicious food & wine. We did wine flights, olive tapenade bruschetta, & margherita flatbread. Everything was very fresh and super tasty.

Yelp
Visited on opening day. Atmosphere: They have outdoor seating for the summer (win!). Inside it has a pretty classy/romantic vibe. Service: everyone who stopped by our table was incredible personable. Despite the prices and the classy vibe inside the servers made us feel at home. Our main waitress had some great recommendations. I wouldn't say the quickest service but nothing to complain about Food: only tried the caprese salad. It was pretty small but very fresh and good. Our waitress brought us some toasted bread with it and it was really tasty. Crisp outside, soft inside & drizzled with olive oil. Drinks: expensive. But good. I tried the V.L.P. (Tito's, lemoncello, & prosecco). I love lemon drop martinis. And adding prosecco to it? Genius! I also tried the sparkling rose. Also delicious. Overall it was good. I'd probably be more likely to go if there was a happy hour. But definitely a welcome addition to the neighborhood!

Yelp
Not awful but also not great. I feel like this place isn't sure what it wants to be, so it tries to be a bunch of different things at once. Unfortunately, everything it does is better at other places. Good service and wine selection, but the food is lacking. I could be wrong, but it seems like everything from the kitchen was put together with good intention but sloppily executed. Not a fan of the shrimp cocktail, which was soggy from water defrosting. I wanted to like this place, but after having an outstanding dinner the night before (I won't mention by name here but check my review), I wasn't thrilled with it. I believe there is room and ability to improve, and it should begin in the kitchen. I will say the server was super attentive and informed. I hope the place steps up to match her performance, or that she finds a better spot. She is why this is 3 stars vs 2.

Yelp
Just an underwhelming experience. Really cute inside, was excited to try. Came with a larger group. Waited a very long time for someone to even ask us what we'd like to drink. We were there for over three hours and we received the drinks we ordered, but no one came to ask us if we'd like another. We would've doubled our bills. They were busy, and when we ordered they said the food "would come out scattered". The flatbreads tasted like frozen pizzas. Would be cute if front of house would step it up.

Yelp
Great spot for a civilized drink and small plates. Very well executed food and a decent selection of Italian wines. The Virgola seafood platter was very good - 3 different types of oysters. Bruschettas and meats and cheeses all thoughtfully curated.

Michel P.

Yelp
Nice experience there. Good and knowledgeable service, good food with bigger sizes than expected. Recommended.

Yelp
A fun little wine bar in the Patchogue neighborhood. Great ambience and service every time I've been in there.

Yelp
My favorite favorite favorite place! It's just the best atmosphere and the food is always what I'm craving - oysters, pizza and charcuterie. The drinks are amazing every time.

Yelp
I was very disappointed with my experience at Virgola's Oysters Italian Wine Bar. After seeing the reviews on Yelp I thought my husband and I were going to have a wonderful evening. The atmosphere was beautiful and clean and the red wine my husband ordered along with my Aperol spritz was very good. Unfortunately, the food was very underwhelming. Our first appetizer was the tuna tartar which was fair. The second dish was a flat bread that tasted like Ellio's pizza. It was thick and chewy. The last dish was shrimp bruschetta. There was hardly any shrimp and the onions were very strong smelling and tasting. It was extremely thick and the bread tasted stale. What a shame because it's a nice location and off the beaten path in Patchogue. It could be a great place to go, but we won't be back and won't recommend it to anyone. The menu needs some improvements and the chef needs to fine tune his dishes in my opinion.

Niki D.

Yelp
Very expensive for the amounts of food given, not much of a selection and seemed to wait longer than usual for service

Yelp
The wine list was fantastic. The place is very cozy. Our server was fantastic. The food we ordered was great. I recommend

Yelp
Virgola never disappoints! Great atmosphere. The food is top quality. My husband enjoys the oysters that are always tasty and super fresh. I love the shrimp cocktail! The biggest shrimp I have ever seen and it's always fresh and delicious!! The flatbreads are inventive and wonderful. The owner, Roy, is an amazing person. He always makes you feel so welcome and treats you like VIPs. Luigi is awesome! Nikki and Amanda are the sweetest and always mix up the most delicious cocktails!! We love going here. We always have a terrific time! Perfect date spot but also a great sophisticated place to share some cocktails and great food with friends and family!

Stefanie M.

Yelp
The music, food and service was exceptional. It was delightful to find a spot where we could enjoy each others company, live music and an array of food and drinks.
google avatar

Kristen K.

Yelp
Every special occasion leads me here. The food is amazing, and my husbands loved the oysters. The flatbreads are also delish! It is a romantic spot, but I especially love it when it is nice out and we can sit outside. I recently went to the psychic sister night and the buffet had all of my faves too! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Never again will they be getting my business. Absolutely baffled by the encounter my group and I had tonight with the owner. If I had to option to give them 0 stars I would.
google avatar

Charlene L.

Yelp
This is the upscale place for Paisanos... here's why!!! Virgola is an oyster wine bar in the back pocket of Patchogue. While the oysters and raw seafood are exceptional, they serve a host of delicious Italian tapas. I have been here a few times and always enjoyed a great dinner with a beautifully bodied Italian wine. So here is the catch...all their wine is Italian. I made the error and asked if the had a Sav Blanc from New Zealand when I learned their list is exclusively Italian. Hey Paisano! They have great flights to try a sip from each region, or each of their reds, or change it all up and go for the Lambrusco. The go to is the select 3 board, incredible buffalo mozzarella with fresh grapes and salty meats. It is a trendy place but has no intention of becoming a night club or using any obnoxious DJ like the rest of Patchogue. I can't wait to come back and try the brunch. Bellini brunch, here we come!
google avatar

Kevin C.

Yelp
Great spot to bring your significant other. Especially if you both enjoy oysters, Italian cheeses, meats, and wine. I recommend sitting outside if it's summer and take advantage of that space. Also recommend the flat bread margarita pizza.

Dlynne C.

Yelp
They wine is good, the food was ehhh. Out of all the food we ordered, there was nothing that I was overly amazed by. If I needed to choose, I'd pass on getting food there again

Yelp
Cute spot to get drinks! The flatbreads are amazing! We also had the tuna tartar which was also yummy and fresh! John the bartender makes amazing drinks and is super attentive!

Yelp
This is hands down my favorite restaurant in patchogue village. It's such a hidden gem, located next to the little boutique near the New Village apartments, it's quaint and sets the perfect mood for a date night or night out with a small group of friends. The charcuterie boards there are the BEST I have ever had - everything is fresh and imported straight from Italy (excluding the seafood, obviously lol) and all of the wines there are fantastic. The Due Torri Chardonnay & the Spumante Sparkling Rosato are two of my favorites, and if you're not a wine person - their espresso martini is delicious Nikki was amazing also, very sweet + attentive. I love this place and constantly recommend it to all of my friends! Definitely check it out if you're in the area.

Yelp
I've been coming here for by a bit now. At first I thought it was only ok but I think this place is great! Come for fine Italian wine and yummy small plates!
google avatar

MaryJo B.

Yelp
Cute place if you're coming for drinks and tap us but don't expect to get a full meal it's not that type of place. The atmosphere was cozy great place to hang out and chat with friends over drink.
google avatar

Jessica O.

Yelp
This place is definitely worth trying. The oysters & ceviche were very fresh. The wine was good, nice selection of white wine but slightly lacking on the red wine selections. They were mostly blends. The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere is definitely quiet & romantic. Overall I would definitely come back.

Yelp
Amazing new wine bar!! Vinny is a great bartender, very informative and educated on the wines. Food presentation was not only delicious but amazing! Full of authentic Italian flavors!!! Great place to be for a local or a visitor!!

Kelly K.

Yelp
I love this place! Nice atmosphere. Best wine I've ever had. Food is great too. Went during pandemic, sat outside. They have best spot in patchogue off of Main Street. Trish is the best bartender, always remembers us. Even the dessert is delicious! A must try! We've been here over a dozen times and will continue to go back

Patricia D.

Yelp
Had a lovely evening enjoying an Italian Margarita (or 2) on the outside patio in late September. Great place to relax away from the hustle and bustle of Main Street. Clean and trendy with great staff.
google avatar

Kim C.

Yelp
Wowwwww I loved it here! Great wine selection and i had amazing food. We started with a mix of East and west coast oysters before moving on to a charcuterie board and a flatbread. Highly recommend
google avatar

Jeannie B.

Yelp
Went last night for the first time and can't wait to go back! The vibe is so cool, love the cozy decor and low lighting. We sat at the bar and our server was an absolute delight. She offered perfect recommendations and hit the mark on each one! We started with wine flights (she asked a few questions to match our pallet). From there we ordered a cheese board and a few appetizers, the cheese board was massive with very big portions of each selection. The food was delicious, the wine was delicious! We bought a bottle to bring home since you can only purchase most of the selections through them...so happy we went!!

Yelp
Been going to virgola since it opened and it continues to get better and better everytime. Their wine selection and cocktail selection continues to grow including seasonal cocktails. The food is excellent, this isn't a place you'll go for a full entre, rather antipastos. The meats and cheeses are always fresh and the flat bread pizzas are a delicious snack to go with the Italian wines. Virgola's dessert menu has nearly tripled in size offering familiar dessert choices such as cheese cake ice cream fudge cookies etc. The service is also to notch, it's fast and attentive, the staff is also very knowledgeable about the menu. I'd really recommend this place to anyone looking for a laid back bar to get a drink and small antipastos and relax. This isn't a loud party bar, this is a place to take your significant other and relax.

Yelp
I visited Virgola Wine Bar with a friend of mine. When I came across this Wine Bar, I couldn't help but to give it a shot. The atmosphere was very nice, and elegant. I was very impressed with the menu lighting, and the seating. It was very comfortable, and relaxing. However, the service was not top notch! There was one waitress, from what it seemed serving all tables. There was someone behind the bar, and then a "bus boy" cleaning off tables from what I saw. With that being said, it took close to 30 minutes to get a knife for the platters we ordered. It took close to 30 minutes to receive a second glass of wine. When we asked for the check, that took another 30 minutes. However, I was excited to see their technology where you as the customer don't need to wait- everything was quick and easy and I had the receipt texted to me on the spot! The food was good- a little pricey for what was received- very small portions, but very good. I enjoyed the overall experience, but the service could have been better.
google avatar

Scott S.

Yelp
While the wine was great and food was good, Virgil's lacks basic customer service skills. After spending $130 at "happy hour" on a bottle and small plates for me and my GF, I was VERY disappointed to see that they charged me $2.00 for the "rocks" in the $16.00 Johnny Walker Black I ordered (with ice filled to the brim of the glass) and...$2.50 for a seltzer and lime for my GF. Did that break the bank? No. But it seemed a little exploitive after we spent some nice money there. The owner offered to take care of us if we came back when he was there. That's not going to happen.
google avatar

Sunita S.

Yelp
This review is long overdue and maybe a little inaccurate. We met friends here when they first opened and had a lovely time. All the seafood was fresh and the small plates were delicious. I wish there would've been a little more variety. But, it was still good. I'm giving 3 stars because the staff seems very green. They didn't seem.to either have restaurant experience or hadn't been trained well here. We would try it again, that was over a year ago and maybe things with the service have been smoothed out.
google avatar

Tara C.

Yelp
So happy we found this place. Nikki was amazing and so helpful. The food was delish, service impeccable, and atmosphere was awesome. Did the wine flight- heavy pours- totally worth it! Found some new amazing wines. Amicone for red and Gavi di Gavi for white. Food was fresh and great flavors. Oysters were best I've ever had - super fresh and sweet. Will definitely be back!!!
google avatar

Bee L.

Yelp
Adorable new wine bar find! The food was awesome and plated beautifully. The wine selection was perfect and the service was impeccable. Our server Nikki was attentive and so sweet! She helped with our menu selections and checked on us frequently! Would highly recommend!!

Yelp
Attended the soft opening at Virgola. I had heard great things about their old location in NYC and was excited they opened shop in Patchogue! It is just what the town is missing. Sleek, industrial design. Great wine list. Helpful and eager staff. Wonderful selection of seafood, meat and cheese small plates, and salads. I thoroughly enjoyed the Raschera cheese we ordered, which came with a herbed honey and olive oiled bread. I look forward to returning soon for great times and great wine!
google avatar

Dan P.

Yelp
Wow, what a great place! Great ambiance, great service and great food. Such a cool vibe. If you've been to all the restaurants in Patchogue but not this one, go now!

Yelp
Hidden Gem in Patchogue. The food is fantastic. The wine is great. Alyssa provided an amazing service, very professional, knows the menu and the wine. I can't wait to go back.!!!
