"It’s hard to not hop in line whenever you pass Vive La Tarte. Come to this bakery and cafe for their pastries, like their turmeric monkey bread that’s more spicy than sweet, but they also have a full breakfast menu if you have time to inhale more than just some fancy bread. The stars are the seasonal croissants, which are basically desserts masquerading as breakfast, but we’re not complaining about that. We especially like the mocha and strawberry versions—but the regular ones hold their own, too. It’s good we don’t live next door to this place, because we’d be eating 90 croissants a day." - lani conway, ricky rodriguez, julia chen 1
"At Vive La Tarte, Belgian husband-and-wife team Arnaud Goethals and Julie Vandermeersch have put a modern, California spin on their family’s pastry recipes. Indulge in their cheesecake made with Sierra Nevada Cheese Company’s cream cheese and a Speculoos crust, or select a Danish pastry filled with basil custard and red rhubarb. The pastry chefs work in small batches throughout the day, so the baked goods are always fresh and warm. Housed in an former printing shop, the open layout and minimalist aesthetic reflects the couple’s love of mid-century Danish design. Take an Earl Grey donut and a cup of Sightglass coffee to the top of the bleacher-like seating and watch the action while you munch." - Airbnb
"Vive La Tarte is offering pumpkin cheesecake and pecan pie for Thanksgiving, available for pre-order online. Order by midnight on Nov. 23rd for pick up on the 25th." - julia chen 1
"There are several reasonable croissants on 24th Street, but this bakery boasts the most precise layers. One of the owners is from Belgium but the vibe is all Cali, with white marble counters and lush plants. Dig into the breakfast and lunch menu, complete with kale salad, avocado toast, and eggs Benedict, washed down with turmeric lattes, kombucha, and natural wine." - Paolo Bicchieri
