Went to Vivir the Monday after they opened so I'm cutting them some slack with a 3-star. Had High Hopes (Panic! At the Disco style) for this place and was disappointed with the result.
Let's start positive. The place is really cute and has a big city restaurant feel which is somewhat unique to Findlay. Also, the homemade chips and salsa were good (albeit too few chips for the price of the app).
For downsides, I have to start with the thing everyone is going there for...the tacos! Man, when reading the menu, so many of them jumped off the page. I ordered the Al Pastor, the Carne Asada, and the Chorizo (3 for $12) and my wife got three shrimp tacos (that nights special). We were so excited.
When our tacos showed up the first comment at the table was, "oh, those are smaller than we thought", although I admit that by meals end, with the chips and salsa beforehand, I wouldn't have wanted more. The real disappointment came when we ate the tacos. They were bland. No other way to describe them really than just "meh". They weren't inedible, but they kind of all just tasted the same and didn't have any flavors that made me think it was $12 well spent.
Aside from the tacos, the drinks and apps were a little pricey. Now, we didn't have any drinks and I'm sure those are delicious, but just browsing we were scared off by a simple margarita costing $9. Maybe I'm just a penny-pincher but if you get a simple chips and salsa app, a couple 3 for $12s, and a couple drinks, be prepared for a $60+ dinner. I have no problem with that if the food is good but sadly it just wasn't.
I truly hope that it improves because I love the idea, but until then, for higher priced apps and drinks, there are other places in town with better food that I'll default towards.
